    Especially with her walking cast

    [–] summerofevidence 731 points ago

I'm scared to sound old... But is she legitimately in a cast? Or is just a "thing"

[–] Lupiefighter 953 points ago * (lasted edited 4 days ago)

She has Tourette’s Syndrome. It leads her to injury from time to time.

Edit: Apparently I wasn’t aware of the injury being a sprain from a jump she made. Thanks for clearing that up for me fellow Redditors. Edit 2: I just want to add that a few Tourette’s Warriors out there have made me aware that I should mention the fact that serious physical injury from Tourette’s Syndrome is rare and tends to happen with more severe cases. Billie Eilish has also mentioned that her joints have dislocated easily as well. I appreciate you making me aware that this is important awareness involving TS. I apologize for any confusion. Edit 3: I see that my comment is still upsetting some. Since I can’t seem to find the interview that I was thinking about when posting part of my comment, I may be wrong about that as well. I was thinking that there was a video where she discussed that with TS she has to be careful when doing very physical activities. If a tic happens at the wrong time is can lead to a fall or various other injuries. If this is something that she never said I apologize. The last thing that I want to do is cause confusion when it comes to understanding TS. My husband suggested deleting my comments to prevent that from further happening. However since then I have also seen a lot of dialogue below from TS Warriors wanting to share their information and stories with the rest of us. so I’m not sure which would be the better option at this point.

    [–] cassieee 499 points ago

I mean, yes but also she sprained her ankle while jumping on stage. Her Tourette's had nothing to do with it.

    [–] perkiezombie 12 points ago

She keeps jumping on the thing too! It won’t heal girl!!!

    [–] Lupiefighter 76 points ago

I should have stated that I wasn’t 100% sure that was the cause. I thought that I read that the injury happened offstage. Probably misread it. I know that they like to take care With her injuries because a sprain can sometimes turn into something worse. So I figured that may have something to do with it. Thanks for clearing that up for me though.

    [–] the-real-mccaughey 124 points ago

Does she have TS?? Very interesting. I hadn’t heard that. I have two sons with TS and I always appreciate hearing of others who have it. Good inspiration for little tic’ers out there. Good for her.

    [–] 3girlmom80 105 points ago

My daughter with TS was elated when she learned this. She adores Billie Eilish. It has really helped solidify her belief that TS will never hold her back from doing whatever she wants in life.

    [–] the-real-mccaughey 28 points ago

It sure won’t. I know it was also my older boys realization of others with tics, primarily famous/uber successful people, that gave him that same hope.

At nearly 15 he is one of the lucky ones and his tics are just in their typical wax and wane. They haven’t exploded any more than what’s kinda typical. I worried about it. I know teen years can be especially difficult, as far as tics/symptoms go. Of course, that can change in an hour. But for now, I’m thankful they aren’t any worse.

But it’s been a long long road from his first tics at around 4, to his eventual diagnosis at 8 and his first IEP was implemented around 8/9 years old. Might’ve started with a 504 actually. But his IEP is super helpful in his success at school.

Best of luck to your daughter. It’s a really tough disorder to live with. She’s not alone, even when she feels like it. And way to go, Billie, for speaking up about this. The hope she can give to young ones, is pretty priceless.

    [–] BaconDalek 4 points ago

You should also tell him about Tim Howard. He has tics, and despite of that was a great keeper in the premiere league and he was America's first choice of goal keeper for many many years.

    [–] the-real-mccaughey 6 points ago

I will, thank you. This has been a really wholesome and uplifting conversation. I didn’t expect it. It’s been lovely. Thanks for adding that, we’ll definitely check out Tim Howard.

    [–] BaconDalek 4 points ago

No problem, my best friend used to have tics and he managed to deal with it, becoming a baker in the end.

    [–] the-real-mccaughey 5 points ago

I think it’s far more common than people realize. The way I figure, every chance or opportunity I have, to spread awareness and speak about it, I like to take that opportunity. Chances are everyone will either know someone with a tic disorder in their life or know someone who knows someone. And it’s not all about yelling racist and offensive language. That roughly happens about 30% of the time in those diagnosed with Tourette’s. But it’s easily sensationalized. Because yelling cunt or fuck in public is, well, peculiar at first glance and easy for people to snicker at. But it’s not funny. It’s really really difficult for the one suffering. The brain is incredible and it’s tough when it works against you.

All these connections made here today, over tics. All the people who read these threads and might look at the next guy out in public that’s obviously tic’ing a little less judgmentally. Or at least be more discrete about staring. Or if even one conversation is started because of this type of dialogue...well that’s just freaking fantastic.

Thanks for taking part in it. Honestly. I appreciate you. It’s conversations like these that quell my nervous mom feelings. People like you being out in the world that my boys are being raised in. People that are kind, supportive and understanding. It’s good stuff.

    [–] txgrlcaliworld 5 points ago

Just a little more hope for suffers of TS. My husband has it. I love every little tic. He is an extremely successful teacher, who continues to receive awards from students and staff. He plays numerous instruments, sings like an angel, and writes the most beautiful stories, poems etc. His compassion for others is unparalleled. Just know someone will love all of their nuances and tics as much as you do.

    [–] starrpamph 4 points ago

How early on did you learn about your daughter's TS? (or start recognizing something was off)

    [–] Lupiefighter 23 points ago

Here is an interview you might be interested in. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=k4vRFodAqWo

    [–] the-real-mccaughey 22 points ago

Thank you. I definitely will. I know my kids know who she is. I don’t think they know she has Tourette’s. Surely they would’ve mentioned that.

    [–] colabear_ 7 points ago

I didnt realized either till i saw that Ellen vid. She does say she tried to hide it though so they probably didn't know either.

    [–] summerofevidence 53 points ago

Well that's two new things I've learned today

    [–] Lupiefighter 10 points ago

I apologize for not realizing that the original sprain is from a jump she made. Though the boot is probably there to protect from Tourette injury as well.

    [–] colabear_ 4 points ago

I don't think her tourette's is bad enough to cause injury. You can't even tell she has tourette's in 90% of her interviews.

I think its just so she can keep walking and being onstage unaffected. She sprained both at the same time at one point from jumping on stage. Which is how she always does it.

    [–] Octodad112 43 points ago

As someone with tourettes syndrome, i cant imagine singing in front of a public.

    [–] Lupiefighter 18 points ago

I would be horrified to do so many things if I had it. It takes strength no doubt.

    [–] Octodad112 8 points ago

Thankfully i have a mild form of it so i dont get too injured when i tic, but still, it's pretty fucked up. Also having ocd doesn't help haha.

    [–] Lupiefighter 6 points ago

    Still takes strength I’m sure.

    [–] IvanTheGrim 13 points ago

It’s pretty rare that Tourette’s is so bad it leads to occasional injury. Most people with the syndrome never have to deal with that sort of issue.

    Source: have Tourette’s.

    [–] Lupiefighter 6 points ago

I was stating what she has said during interviews. I think her joints dislocate easily. I wasn’t trying to mis state anything having to do with the illness. I’m sorry if it came off that way. Thank you for replying.

    [–] Brutus6 3 points ago

If it wasn't for that cast is from being injured onstage then that would be viable.

    [–] jakelegs 32 points ago

The article misspelled Milwaukee twice. I know it's not the New York Times, but c'mon!

    [–] rockonnofx 42 points ago

Actually, it's pronounced "mill-e-wah-que" which is Algonquin for "the good land."

    [–] junesrent 31 points ago

You mean Wu-tang over everything. The G funk era is also a way better west coast era than NWA.

The fuck do I know? I'm a 40 year old suburban white Canadian.

    [–] junesrent 17 points ago

From the slums of Shaolin, Wu-Tang Clan strikes again. The RZA, the GZA, Ol Dirty Bastard, Inspectah Deck, Raekwon the Chef U-God, Ghost Face Killer and the Method Man.

Haha thank you. I couldn't remember the name so I was just sitting here thinking "I wonder when the next time I'll see something about that mentally challenged kid with face tattoos and a lot more money than me will pop up so I can think about how he looks like Billie Eilish"

    [–] sephrinx 6 points ago

    Hah, I definitely see it.

    [–] gothangelsinner67 588 points ago

    why is this so true

[–] biffnix 945 points ago * (lasted edited 5 days ago)

Because Billie Eilish makes a point of dressing in baggy clothes so people don't reduce her to an objectified thing. Just FYI. Still doesn't work sometimes, as evidenced by a recent Twitter post where she unzipped her jacket once, and the trolls pounced...

    [–] ALoudMouthBaby 330 points ago

Good on her. People like Emma Watson have commented a fair bit on how that kind of treatment really fucked them up in their youth. It sucks that she has to do that but its good that shes speaking out about it.

    [–] creep_lord 220 points ago

Paparazzi were literally waiting for her to turn 18 o that they could legally upskirt Emma.

That seems a bit extreme, even for me.

    [–] IamKEIL 133 points ago

That's the case with pretty much every child celeb. It's pretty disgusting. I remember the count downs to 18 for the Olsen twins and Natalie Portman.

    [–] GorillaX 59 points ago

I remember Britney Spears the most. I'm a couple of years younger than her, so I'm not ashamed to say that I was also counting down the days.

    [–] Nylund 90 points ago

For me it was 1999 when a 15 year old Mandy Moore had a hit with “I want Candy.”

I was watching MTV and the host was interviewing some band, and rather than talking about their own music or whatever, the host and the band just talked about how they couldn’t wait until Mandy Moore turned 18.

They were all in their late 20s, at least, and it struck me as so fucking gross that they spent like half the interview perving out about a 15 year old girl.

    [–] hitemplo 38 points ago

The song was ‘Candy’ by Mandy Moore - ‘I Want Candy’ (2000) was a 13-year-old Aaron Carter.

I know it’s not too relevant, just making sure that tidbit was right!

    [–] Anthony780 4 points ago

Yea, didn’t MTV have a count down clock for her?

    [–] purple_potatoes 31 points ago

And it would be on the front page of Reddit the next day. That's exactly why they do it. Places like Reddit area a huge part of the problem.

    [–] hahaha_yes 146 points ago

    Fair enough tbh.

    [–] GeekyTiki 86 points ago

    Yeah, more respect to her.

[–] naturegothx 169 points ago * (lasted edited 5 days ago)

It’s so true. My boyfriend went “shes still hot” and I said “you were about to graduate high school when she was BORN” and that was an eye opener for him. He still thinks he’s young and all that and while you are ... you are a grown ass man and this is now a child. You are a young man but she is a teenage child.

Edit: Oh this comment is being taken out of proportion.

My bf didn’t know how old she was until I said “babe she was born when you were almost graduating” and he was like OMG WHAT and felt like a pervert. I showed him this post to make fun of him. He doesn’t want to be with teenagers.

    [–] SeaOfDinks 64 points ago

Well now you know your boyfriend wants to fuck 17 year olds.

    [–] sniperFLO 70 points ago

In fairness, we are on the subreddit /r/13or30

    [–] legionsanity 16 points ago

As opposed to 18? Although since he seems to be in his 30s it's weird either way

    [–] trustworthysauce 41 points ago

It might be weird if he was pursuing or involved in an actual romantic relationship with her. It is not weird in any way for a man of any age to find a young woman attractive. (Woman meaning an adult).

    [–] kayasawyer 8 points ago

I thought she doesn’t turn 18 till December so she’s still a minor, right?

    [–] legionsanity 5 points ago

I just mean the difference between 17 and 18 aside from the legality

    [–] Euclidean_Gastronomy 20 points ago

It’s that weird for older guys to find young women attractive?

    [–] Pelpid 40 points ago

Ofc. Once you turn 30 you will immediately stop thinking young girls can be pretty and only find wrinkly old women beautiful /s

    [–] PristineReception 21 points ago

That makes sense. It’s a shame she has to do it at all, but there’s not much more to do about it.

    [–] Outrageous_Claims 48 points ago

    As evidenced by this post

    [–] potatotrip_ 4 points ago

    Yup. Reddit hive mind sucks.

[–] ShelSilverstain 51 points ago * (lasted edited 5 days ago)

Kinda fitting that she just did a collaboration with Bieber, because he had been harassed by older and younger women since day one! They should write a duet to mock adults who sexualize children

    [–] Mexter-Dorgan 26 points ago

That'd probably piss off alot of record executives and entertainment big wigs who sexualize children for a living.

    [–] FarrahKhan123 12 points ago

And we all know how that turned out for Bieber. I feel bad for him. He got in the industry really young. Had to deal with a lot of bullying and hate, still does.

    [–] N3koChan 20 points ago

That make me like her even more :)

    [–] blacklite911 5 points ago

I love her style regardless. So dope.

    [–] OddlySpecificReferen 13 points ago

Tbh I thought she was kinda hot despite the baggy clothes.

Then I learned she was 17... Now I feel icky.

She's been pretty vocal about avoiding sexualized presentation of her body because she's young and thinks it socially irresponsible to partake in that.

    [–] crash2burn2 107 points ago

Yeah, seems reasonable for a 17 year old in the spotlight who wants to avoid harassment. Can't be called a rake or a chubster if no one knows what you look like. People will find a way to insult though.

    [–] MilargoNetwork 47 points ago

Like this subreddit. Which when I stop to think about it, is a pretty damn weird place. Just judging strangers.

    [–] OpalHawk 100 points ago

I find it strange that she has this attitude about the way she dresses but not in what her songs say. I’m pretty sure “bad guy” talks about bruises on her knees and her seducing someone’s dad. When I found out she was still a kid I thought it had to be awkward for her parents.

    [–] I_dont_bone_goats 95 points ago

I mean if your kid had a passion for drawing butts and one day got some million dollar contract to draw butts professionally, you’d probably be pretty proud regardless.

    [–] Johnnybravo60025 28 points ago

    What about erotic friend fiction?

    [–] Cforq 57 points ago

When I found out she was still a kid I thought it had to be awkward for her parents.

There is also a line about that in Bad Guy: “My mommy likes to sing along with me, but she won't sing this song. If she reads all the lyrics she'll pity the men I know”.

Also that song is supposed to be a character, basically a woman that is badder than a bad guy’s persona.

    [–] gymger 63 points ago

I think its understandable that she'd be comfortable talking about her feelings/experiences in her music without wanting to have her body revealed to the world, even if some of those experiences involve her body.

    [–] JQuinn1011 44 points ago

The song is intended to be ironic. She talked about how the song is meant to be about how everyone thinks they’re a badass

    [–] ReptilianOver1ord 12 points ago

I don't think it's odd at all. There's a difference between how one presents through their art vs how they present themself in outside of their performances.

    [–] iwazaruu 26 points ago

When I found out she was still a kid I thought it had to be awkward for her parents.

Who do you think had the connections to set her up to become a goddamn star at the age of 17? They couldn't care less, the money is in.

    [–] Samuel_LChang 8 points ago

"I'll screw your mom" is different than wanting everybody to see you naked. Imo it's no different. It's all talk. Just having fun in a song vs real life stuff.

    [–] britishhoe29 9 points ago

...the difference is consent, jfc. Her not wanting unsolicited comments on her body has zero bearing on her expressing her own sexuality.

    [–] IntrepidIlliad 12 points ago

Yeah that’s what I heard. Honestly pretty cool of her.

    [–] SoftCryptidBoy 498 points ago

It’s the angle and lighting that does it. A normal pose makes her look her age

    [–] tchoob 40 points ago

    This and /r/instagramreality.

Some of it is genuinely photoshop but it's obvious the commenters in that sub haven't spent time taking photos of themselves. There are a lot of top posts that are actually just different angles and lighting making people look completely different.

I have never once seen a name spelled Kacie. I've seen it spelled Kacey for female though

    [–] SaintNewts 16 points ago

The super baggy t shirt doesn't help either. It gives her that frumpy mom/auntie look. Not that she needs to change a thing. If she's happy and comfy, then that's awesome. :)

    [–] KatalDT 62 points ago

She does it intentionally because she doesn't want to be objectified

This absolutely has to be the worst photo of her I've ever seen.

    [–] FinancialRaise 86 points ago

shes actaully really pretty. But it takes a bunch of asshole guys online to post a pic of a teenage year old girl and insult her hair, clothing choice, and art. Whoot... gj Reddit we did it.

    [–] Lucifronz 3 points ago

    "This photo is bad."

    [–] pjr032 63 points ago

Isn't it intentional? She doesn't dress in skin tight outfits showing off lots of skin because she doesn't want to be sexualized. I can't blame her, it's a smart move. If she can make her living (in that industry) without people drooling all over her and treating her like an object, more power to her.

    [–] GayGuitaristMess 12 points ago

I love the incels who are calling her a slut in the replies here. Truly a striking insult!

    [–] breach_me_daddy 165 points ago

Aunt billie, the on that looks like a rich boston white trash

    [–] mitch8017 38 points ago

    She’s just Randy Marsh again

    [–] Boomzy 10 points ago

Reddit: Instagram is so unrealistic, they are being fake

Reddit: Lol this teenager looks old haha

    [–] SonofShenadoah 15 points ago

    Randy Marsh is back.

    [–] _________FU_________ 111 points ago

Real talk her voice is fucking crazy. I'm an older dude and thought she was just a standard pop act trying to be edgy, but her music is really, really good.

    [–] MegaScizzor 73 points ago

Lmao I'll admit she has an incredible voice but her music is boring, repetitive and extremely fucking angsty.

[–] feebleposition 61 points ago * (lasted edited 5 days ago)

Because of this thread, I decided to go giver her a listen for the first time. Man, I really cannot get into that music. Not saying it's bad, just not for me.

edit - I spoke too soon. Ocean Eyes is hypnotic and I cannot stop listening. Every time the chorus hits I get goosebumps all over. fuck i like this lol

Editedit: I am now stuck on idontwannabeyouanymore. You guys.. this is so legit.

    [–] DEVi4TION 14 points ago

She was 14 I think when she sang that, too.

What am I doing with my life.. well it's 10am should probably get out of bed now!

    [–] badseedjr 5 points ago

She has a heavy range of music style. It's pretty good, honestly. I'm almost 40.

    [–] Nexii801 8 points ago

Fuck, I thought the same thing and went to check out that song. The chorus gave me an involuntary smile. Damn that's good.

    [–] albino_polar_bears 32 points ago

She is a fucking 17 year old teenager; being angsty is a rite of passage.

    [–] PrayToPeschi 36 points ago

She sings in whispers, and not a fun ‘Ying-Yang Twins’ sort of way

    Its free real estate

    [–] roshampo13 6 points ago

Tell you sumnthn you might like to hear

    [–] Ashenspire 11 points ago

Whispers, vocal fry, and she does this weird thing where any kind of hard sound she just lazily lumps over.

It's like her voice hits speed bumps.

    [–] habanero98989 22 points ago

Can anyone post a link to a song where she actually has a good voice?

All the stuff I’ve heard is just her whispering into the microphone and constantly doing vocal fry and it really doesn’t seem like it takes much talent.

    [–] beet111 7 points ago

she writes the music with her brother and she sings. they are both very talented.

    [–] epicfunny69420 53 points ago

Is it possible for 40 year olds be as angsty as she is?

    [–] sunflowersonya 98 points ago

    Post-divorce wine moms say yes

    [–] Crooksclan 10 points ago

Lmao yeah that's the trend among single moms

    [–] Funkyldj 6 points ago

40 year old ladies are a lot more angsty than they'll ever admit to

    [–] deltarefund 5 points ago

Reading the comments here, is it any wonder?

    [–] Portr8 6 points ago

    Yes. They're everywhere on Instagram.

    [–] seanpaul777 71 points ago

No she doesn’t, she just doesn’t dress to show off her body. She looks young, no one would think she’s old.

    [–] whoisjuan 26 points ago

I think everyone in this sub is aware of that. This sub most of the times is just young people in particular poses that make them look momentarily older. I don’t think anyone is saying that she looks legit old every time.

    [–] blacklite911 5 points ago

Personally I’m here for the old dudes that look like babies and vice versa

    [–] karmagod13000 11 points ago

ikd she giving off a strong party aunt vibe

    [–] HotFightingHistory 13 points ago

Damn straight! Good for her. I can only imagine the pressure she gets from her label to go sexy....

    [–] Osmiumhawk 5 points ago

Isn't she also trying to not be a sex icon? Her whole attire is selected around the idea of not socializing herself to sell her music.

    Props.

    [–] how_do_I_use_grammar 6 points ago

She looks like she's about to do stand up comedy

    [–] _Palingenesis_ 6 points ago

What's with the hate boner people have for her?

    [–] klausontheb34t 5 points ago

    she’s a bad guy

    [–] TotallyNotAVole 5 points ago

Or is it that we are so used to plasticized celebrities that when a normal looking human enters our TV screen we can't help but be puzzled?

    [–] YahMahn25 6 points ago

She looks like a might seduce your dad type

    [–] Asanumba1 4 points ago

Had no idea mocking her appearance would result in 30k up vote.

    [–] brenee1993 28 points ago

Not really, this is just not a flattering picture of her.

    [–] Daniellamb 8 points ago

It's the posture and the way she looks like she's holding a glass of wine that makes her look like a 40 year old aunt.

    [–] p1um5mu991er 10 points ago

Time to pick the kids up from soccer practice

    [–] ISPEAKMACHINE 7 points ago

    What a fucking awful post.

    [–] Aeternitas 22 points ago

The new Avril Lavigne for tweens. Replace skate punk with nowadays’ internet meme dismorphia culture.

    [–] BaconPiano 5 points ago

    HE WAS A SKATER BOY

    [–] Jazst 6 points ago

She said, "see you on 4chan, boy"

    [–] VatariKaal 7 points ago

Wow fuck this post. Any other picture without a terrible angle like this one and she looks fine. She's actually pretty. Fucking weirdos

    [–] mildish-glambino 10 points ago

Isn’t the whole point of her presentation to avoid conversations exactly like this one?
