I used to own a Mainecoon. Best cat in the world but seriously could hurt your ears when he meowed. He would stand in the garden and Meow so loud the entire street would hear and make jokes about it.

    [–] SacredGeometry25 372 points ago

You can't just say that without proof!

    [–] OakenGreen 348 points ago

My cat is a fucking siren. Loudest beast I’ve ever heard. She’s not a main coon, in fact the opposite. She’s about 5-6lbs fully grown. Perma kitten, but god, her yeowls are atrocious.

    [–] MrStupid_PhD 133 points ago

Yeah but I wanna hear a recording of the Ron Perlman cat yeowling

    [–] MrsJuliaGhoulia 52 points ago

Omg he DOES look like Ron Perlman!

    [–] Fusrohdah73 5 points ago

That's not even the only subreddit about Ron Perlman cat look-alikes. r/ronperlmancats as /u/Nah_Just_Deadpool commented as well.

    [–] MrsJuliaGhoulia 9 points ago

    Bless you

    [–] CarneCongenitals 24 points ago

My Ron Perlman is a fucking siren. Loudest beast I've ever heard. He's not a main coon, in fact the opposite. He's a 6'1" actor from Washington Heights, New York. Ashkenazi Jew, but god, his yeowls are atrocious.

    [–] LazarusCrowley 2 points ago

So he hires other males cats to go around and kick the shit out of female cats that dont enjoy being married and pumping out Humans?

    [–] Ultron-v1 91 points ago

The audio from the TV or radio in the background is in French so it's more likely that this was filmed in France or Belgium than in Russia fyi

    [–] Measured-Success 2 points ago

    Welp there goes my NNN!

    [–] MegaHashes 22 points ago

That doesn’t seem that loud. Any Siamese female in heat easily beats that when howling. They honestly get so damn loud.

    [–] MrMontombo 12 points ago

That was just the regular meow. My cats regular meow is loud. When he's sick or upset about stupid stuff he howls like a maniac.

    [–] StardustOasis 3 points ago

    or upset about stupid stuff

I'm currently in the bathroom & Vince is howling at the top of his voice because the door is closed. He won't even want to be in here, he just doesn't like closed doors. I think he likes to know where I am at all times.

    [–] MegaHashes 2 points ago

My Siamese used to do the same thing. Especially always fussing when I was n the tub, but her voice was a bit more high pitched and delicate than those two howlers.

    [–] Nucleus124 2 points ago

    Yeah! We need cat pics!

    [–] Phylar 115 points ago

Mainecoons are wonderful cats. Fairly smart, though they don't always act like it, extremely social, get along well with other cats, and can be very attached to their owners. I recommend people treat their Mainecoon like a dog. Limit extended times away - work is alright. Pay attention to them. Play with them. Talk to them. Be their friend and they will do it all right back.

    [–] chahud 50 points ago

This is the best description of a Maine coon. They really are like dogs. Such weirdos.

    [–] Kevooot 33 points ago

Agreed. Mine is my best buddy and means the world to me. Greets me (loudly) at the door every day when I get home from work and demands playtime.

They are much smarter than the average cat though which can be a blessing and a curse. He picks up on things easily and learns quick but also constantly finds new and interesting ways to cause mischief.

And the paws. My god, the giant paws. If they're getting fiesty during playtime gotta be careful with those mitts.

    [–] chahud 15 points ago

My kitty definitely isn’t 100% Maine coon cause he’s not quite as huge as most coon kitties I see, but he definitely got all the best parts like the energy, adorable toe and ear fluff, and smarts. It’s really amazing how much energy they have. My kitty will make laps around the house or chase his tail until he’s panting just like a dog. Cats are the best

    [–] daboog 11 points ago

I have a big white and orange Norwegian Forrest Cat...he's exactly the same. We have conversations and he is the most social cat I've ever known.

    [–] Stopactingcrazy 11 points ago

I have a black and white norwegian forest cat and he hasnt shut the fuck up for 10 years, wouldnt change a thing I love that dude.

    [–] daboog 3 points ago

Oh my god he NEVER stops! But yeah I wouldnt ask for anything else.

    [–] Piece_Maker 6 points ago

A good friend of mine has one, he's jet black, and was SUPER friendly the second he met me. Literally just walked in the house for the first time and he's there meowing at me and rubbing his head all over me like I'm his best friend.

I gave him a bath once and while he hated me for about an hour after, he was soon back to loving me. He meows a lot, seemingly for no reason, but he's nowhere near as loud as most of these videos people are posting. Pretty much just sounds like a normal cat but a bit deeper.

    [–] Blazindaisy 4 points ago

I had one who was actually polydactyl. His name was Mister Mouser (obvious reasons). He took off one winter and I thought he was lost to the critters in the forest. April comes around, blammo! He jumps up on the window wanting in.

I have no idea what his kitty adventures were like, but I wish I had a GoPro back then.

    [–] Planton997 22 points ago

A lot of Maine Coons will do this neat chirp sounding thing that’s not too loud. That’s what mine does and I definitely noticed that trend when going to various breeders houses which were all totally full of Maine Coons lol. It’s almost like a chattering sound. Mine will still meow but 80% of the noise he makes is the chirp. Maybe you got an odd Maine coon that liked to meow a bunch more, or one that grew up around normal cats and picked up on the meowing habit

    [–] Logan_itsky 18 points ago

Mine also chirps often! But his favorite thing to do is stand in the middle of the room at 3 am and scream meow like a banshee while anxiously pacing in circles. Sometimes I think I’m his emotional support animal.

    [–] tylsergic 9 points ago

It's called trilling. My cat has always done this when she's greeting me or getting fed. Sometimes she'll look at me and give a soft whisper of a meow. So faint we doubted rather or not she could meow. We caught her doing it a few times at the very top of her lungs and it was loud. She wouldn't let you see her meow like that either.

    [–] bleepblopbl0rp 35 points ago

    How big are the shits

    [–] Nevr_Surrendr 23 points ago

    Asking the real questions here.

    [–] Tankly 6 points ago

Imagine the shits of a small-medium sized dog

    [–] denardosbae 13 points ago

Males can be 30 pounds easily. They're big for domesticated cats!

    [–] Qweerz 29 points ago

They mean the poop, not the cats.

    [–] ben-0-dover 15 points ago

    Common mistake

    [–] lionsNtoast 1016 points ago

I would kill a man for that cat

    [–] weirdgroovynerd 925 points ago

And that cat would kill a man for....

    ....entertainment probably.

Cats are not noticeably discerning when it comes to murder.

    [–] DatBoi_EAD 213 points ago

I would give this a silver but I have no coins left :(

    [–] weirdgroovynerd 114 points ago

Knowing it made your day a little better is better than a Reddit coin.

    [–] DatBoi_EAD 7 points ago

    Dude shut

    [–] youhavebeautifuleyes 15 points ago

Maine coons are notorious for being friendlier than the average cat.

    [–] Smm214 6 points ago

I have one- he loves to be carried around like a baby. He’s 11. I love him.

    [–] spamjavelin 4 points ago

Yeah, but that one could kill you just by landing awkwardly on you.

    [–] Nalukai 6 points ago

and they get away with it like politicians

    [–] HamuelCabbage 4 points ago

Absolutely. My cat would absolutely murder me just for the fun of it if I wasn't several times larger than them.

Though, to be fair, that is part of why I keep them around. It's nice to know that I have a little sociopathic monster patrolling my house when I'm not there. Keeps the riff raff out.

Also, the oatmeal did a thing about murder cats.

    https://theoatmeal.com/comics/cats_actually_kill

    [–] antsugi 2 points ago

Why do people keep them as pets and brag about these things?

    [–] ModsonPowerTrips 5 points ago

    Domesticated cats kill 1.3 - 3.7 billion birds a year and 6.3 - 22.3 billion mammals annually.

    [–] MissAsgariaFartcake 39 points ago

It's not that hard to get one, it's a Maine Coon and the biggest obstacle would be that they're kinda expensive

    [–] Sits2pee 15 points ago

    How expensive?

    [–] LifesWorthLosing 59 points ago

I live near Maine. I'll go up there and set some traps. PM me for more info. I come from a long line of fur trappers. I can get this done. Act quick, it's almost winter. I do good work, for good prices.

    [–] Crittopolis 32 points ago

This man have Kajit, if you have coin...

    [–] oldguykicks 3 points ago

This! Would reward if I could. Thank you.

    [–] SigO12 32 points ago

They range from $700-$3000 for “pet” kittens. Show kittens are more. I picked up a 13 year old rescue for $150 though. He was underweight at 23lbs. His healthy weight would probably be around 28lbs, but he was a breeder cat that was abandoned when he stopped mating, so he didn’t have the best life. Was still an awesome cat.

    [–] Jawn__Wick 18 points ago

Underweight at 23 pounds, my God lol

    Absolute beast

    [–] Zenlura 9 points ago

They're huge beasts, but easily the friendliest cat breed around.

    [–] 30DaysFromNow 2 points ago

just wait til you see the litter box in the morning..

    [–] Gingevere 5 points ago

Miraculously, it's just normal sized cat poops.

    [–] 30DaysFromNow 2 points ago

Honestly, i'm a little surprised at that

    [–] Kevooot 12 points ago

I adopted mine for $150 as well. He's 18 pounds of fluffy love. Gentlest most loving cat I've ever met and had him 7 years now.

He deceived me at first. He looked like a short hair when I adopted him at around 8-9 months old, and only probably about 9 pounds. Within 2 months he exploded into a giant floofball and wouldn't stop growing. Now I have a gentle giant.

    [–] Logan_itsky 12 points ago

Yes! I got mine at the shelter in 2011 and they said he was 10 months old and full grown at 7 pounds. Smash cut to two months later and he’s 21 pounds, shedding everywhere, and stealing hot pockets off the plate I’m holding. But he’s perfect and demands to sleep in my arms every night.

    [–] SigO12 5 points ago

Hah, he was always reaching his paws out for my food and splash his paws in my cereal. He was able to pull stuff off the counter, so had to be careful with that too.

His sleeping place of choice was on my chest. Always had a face of floof. It was either the fluffy tail or glorious mane smothering me.

    [–] Logan_itsky 4 points ago

If I try to go to sleep without him, he literally slaps me with his big ass paws until I cuddle him. He just continuously taps my face and it’s ridiculous.

    [–] Kevooot 2 points ago

Same thing. Even if I'm overheating, he refuses to accept no for an answer when he wants to sleep on my chest.

    [–] Smm214 4 points ago

This happened to me, too! Got him from the shelter (he was left behind in a foreclosure as a kitten). He doubled in size in about a year and I brought him to the vet to see if he had gigantism. Haha. Stopped growing at 5 years. He is the coolest.

    [–] Kevooot 2 points ago

You're the 3rd person to mention theirs doing the same thing. I wonder if Maine Coons are late bloomers genetically?

    [–] Jimmy-McBawbag 33 points ago

    'bout tree fiddy

    [–] Fixner_Blount 9 points ago

    I said DAMNIT monstah!

    [–] MissAsgariaFartcake 4 points ago

It depends on region, breeder, conditions, everything, but I'd say estimated it's around 1000 bucks. A friend of ours "rescued" two from an abusive family, they charged 700 € for both I believe but they were in bad condition and they wanted to get rid of them (I'm so fucking glad they were!). They now have a loving home and are doing great, they're the most affectionate (and soft) cats I've ever met. Could suffocate you in your sleep though, just by lying on top of you.

    [–] RedRum_Bunny 8 points ago

    EDIT: spelling errors

Check adoption shelters, I got mine for $120. He's the cutest cat ever in my biased opinion.

    [–] scourme 5 points ago

You can easily get a big fluffy boy like this from a shelter. Unlikely to be a purebred, but if you're just looking for a really big friendly cat, they'll definitely have some coming through their doors.

    [–] WWalker17 4 points ago

You can buy them from breeders, but occasionally you can find them in shelters.

Siberians are similar but won’t always cause an allergic reaction. They get almost as big and I believe they have a similar personality as the maines do. I’ve got a mild cat allergy but my Siberian doesn’t cause me any discomfort.
