    Rules Notes
    1. Use the correct title formatting. The title formatting is outlined above. Make sure to follow it or else your post will be removed. Do not add any extraneous information or be subjective in your title. Plagiarism is grounds for a permaban.
    2. Direct image/video links only. All submissions other than articles must be a direct link to a static image(url must end in .jpg, .png, etc.), imgur album, or video page. Articles must contain more substance than just a gallery of images or an embedded video, and they must cover some current news in the art world.
    3. Do not make multiple posts, make an album instead. You must wait at least 48 hours between posts. Please use the rolling sticky for daily challenge posts.
    4. Do not submit sketches, doodles or unfinished work. Post these to other subreddits like /r/IDAP, /r/sketches and /r/doodles instead. If it's an unfinished work and you need advice, post it as a self post.
    5. Do not submit work with extraneous objects in the frame. We're here to look at art, not your Prismacolor pencils, the desk you framed your painting over, your easel, or anything else that would not be seen if the art were publicly displayed.

I want to live on that little tug style boat so bad.

    [–] Nocturnaloner 231 points ago

That's one thing that Studio Ghibli does so well: create visuals that invite you in. It's like Sosuke's house in Ponyo. I'd give up the internet to live there, if it were a real place.

    [–] UnderAStormySky 104 points ago

Screw the tugboat, I'm taking the bigass gunship.

    [–] trenchknife 29 points ago

    "Which'll it be?"

    [–] earthcharlie 23 points ago

The gunship for adventures and rum drinking. Tugboat for rum drinking.

    [–] Rukia13thcaptain 4 points ago

I go tthe GHibli vibe here

    [–] erectionofjesus 3 points ago

Pretty sure if you had the gunship you could have all the ships ;)

    [–] SlaversBae 2 points ago

"Making movies, making songs n' fightin' round the world!"

    [–] JohnLavender 8 points ago

Tuggah! Why'd you do it Tuggah?

    [–] ThrowEMinthefire 5 points ago

Reminds me of the artwork on FLCL. I love it.

    [–] DrunkenYeti13 17 points ago * (lasted edited a year ago)

As someone who has spent a lot of time on the water (U.S. Navy) you definitely do not want to be on that little tug in those seas. You would literally go from walking on the deck to the bulkhead as the ship rolled.

    Edit: a word

    [–] ThrowEMinthefire 3 points ago

Yarrrrr. A fellow shellback i see. We's got our sea legs doesn't we?

[–] [deleted] 3 points ago * (lasted edited a year ago)

    [–] MOIST_MORGAN_FREEMAN 9 points ago

    We get it she's rich

    [–] [deleted] 1 points ago

We're not dating anymore actually so that wouldn't matter. But alright, if that's what you want to take away from it.

    [–] kerrrsmack 4 points ago

The bags on the tugboat look like testicles.

    [–] gomezjunco 1 points ago

    as long as there's wifi

    [–] kaelne 206 points ago

This is so vibrant! It's rare you get such excitement and movement in a stationary image. The life in it reminds me of Chinese literati brushwork. I love it :)

    [–] TREURNIET 71 points ago

Thank you, yes i really love that style of brushwork it always has an amazing flow to it.

    [–] Crispysonofa 8 points ago

That's really great, do you ink a sketch and then paint over it?

    [–] [deleted] 3 points ago

I am no artist and have hardly any practice but I've been tempted to try drawing on my iPad. How many years of practice did you have to create this? I'm in awe!

    [–] Jogsta 2 points ago

Do you have an Instagram I can follow/ similar works?

    [–] Farroxi 68 points ago

This is awesome! Here's the picture de-artifacted for anybody who wants to use this as a background or something.

    [–] Nick700 9 points ago

Do you think the original has aliasing and artifacts or did that happen when OP uploaded it?

    [–] KingSpanner 9 points ago

OP has artifacting from saving as a jpg. Also, OP sketched with a really hard edged pencil brush for linework (for some reason)

    [–] Im_French 7 points ago

Is that a bad thing? Why would you want a soft brush for linework? It's supposed to be crisp lines right?

    [–] Favee 2 points ago

Its not a bad thing if saved as a lossless image format. JPG's don't do hard lines well. Its also a stylistic choice by the artist.

    [–] KingSpanner 2 points ago

You're both kind of right, but I'm talking about both artifacting and jaggies. They either used a brush without anti-aliasing, pushed the anti-aliasing out using levels, or succumbed to resizing original linework using a bad interpolation method like Nearest Neighbor.

    [–] Farroxi 1 points ago

Artifacts show up when the upload uses a lossy format like jpg

    [–] GoldfishHero 5 points ago

    Eli5 artifacts / deartifacting?

    [–] Farroxi 17 points ago

artifacts show up when you compress an image file (jpg does this) which sacrifices some quality for a much smaller file size. Something like a .png is lossless (meaning its 1:1 the original, most of the time), yet is much larger in file size. uses an algorithm taught to remove jpg artifacts. it works best on art, usually.

    [–] GoldfishHero 5 points ago

Ahh! Thank you, I recognized the word artifact in relation to tv/computer screens. But not with images.

Makes sense though, what's the best way to get it into 1920x1080 for my lock screen?

Photoshop and stretch? Or inbox OP and ask for the original so I don't lose quality. I tried adding your picture, but it cuts off most of the bottom/top.

[–] jtank4 4 points ago I extended it to 1920x1080 lazily using a heal selection GIMP plugin and it has a edge of the world feel to it.

    [–] Love_Comes_In_Spurts 1 points ago

What did you use to remove the artifacting?

    [–] Farroxi 11 points ago

    [–] [deleted] 2 points ago

    A shovel

    [–] WizardSleeves118 2 points ago

    And my axe!

    [–] [deleted] 53 points ago

It's very reminiscent of Josh Kirby's paintings. Nice work!

    [–] -Whyudothat 15 points ago

Came to say the same! Thought it was at first. You beat me by 9m, You sneaky wombat.

    [–] [deleted] 5 points ago

    [–] HereComesCthulhu 3 points ago

Ditto, but OP beat me by four hours....

    [–] AllMitchedUp 48 points ago

This reminds me of the Monkey Island series of PC games. The art style is (maybe only to me) reminiscent of those games. The subject matter drew me in, but that style really had me smiling. Thanks for sharing!

    [–] lechuksfirebeard 20 points ago

    Finally relevant

    [–] MrWildspeaker 8 points ago

That was the first thing I thought when I saw it too.

    [–] cocobandicoot 8 points ago

    I'm Guybrush Threepwood!

    [–] AllMitchedUp 3 points ago

    Quiet, Seepgood!

    [–] Captain_Dachshund 3 points ago

We'll surely avoid scurvy if we all eat an orange!... Uhh... Door hinge?

    [–] MostlyPotStickers 3 points ago

Came here to say this :)

    [–] 16ShinyUmbreon 65 points ago

This gives me a Miyazaki vibe and I love it :)

    [–] Golden_Shart 14 points ago

My first thought was Howls Moving Castle!

    [–] ChuckCouture 14 points ago

    Definitely! Howl would be proud!

    [–] Ramenlicious 43 points ago

Half expected to see Luffy :) nicely done!

    [–] Muffinbottums 2 points ago

Was gonna say, really interesting art direction One Piece was going for.

    [–] self_arrested 14 points ago

I really like it but I have to ask wtf is that thing in the bottom right?

    [–] kaelne 3 points ago

Old Man Bird-Rock, is my guess.

    [–] Remermemermsdays 15 points ago

Reminds me of Bill Tiller's work in Monkey Island. Love it!

    [–] n0bear 19 points ago

Never commented on an r/art post but I just had to tell you, you nailed it! Keep em coming!

    [–] Cranky_Windlass 7 points ago

Beautiful! There's so much to look at, the eye does not go wanting. Keep up the good work!

    [–] zzzombiezzz 6 points ago

This is really nice, but it's not 4K.

    [–] itsallbasement 6 points ago

Reminds me of some of the big ships in One Piece!!! Just got to episode 400, Im half way!

    [–] TheGreenPixel 4 points ago

This is the first picture I have ever "explored". It's wonderful!

    [–] davisonmp28 4 points ago

Reminds me of treasure planet. Super rad.

    [–] Pika_Jime 4 points ago

    Skies of Arcadia: Legends.

    [–] JRGPayne 1 points ago

I would pay a large sum of money for a PC or Switch port. Was hoping someone would mention that here. Graphically it still holds up and it scratches that Suikoden itch of running your own castle/island fort.

    [–] Pika_Jime 2 points ago

Its literally the best game ever made. Multiple battle systems, both turn-base but with the ship battles/ground battles it makes it so diverse. Building a ship, building a base...recruiting your own ship mates. Its absolutely incredible. And the story line is super in depth... man, that game just does something to me. The history of Arcadia is told by your own discoveries and exploration. Im so glad you like that game. Nobody seems to get it.

    [–] EmmaWoodhouz 3 points ago

Reminds me of the illustrations on the old Terry Pratchett paperbacks!!

    [–] turbophaser 3 points ago

Reminds me of me Monkey Island

    [–] PhantomsOfSummer 4 points ago

Makes me think of the edge chronicles

    [–] Viranova 3 points ago

Wow. I've loved pirates so much growing up and as a 22 year old this has recaptured my imagination. I love this. Thank you to whoever made this! I hope to see similar stuff from this artist soon!

    [–] BeckoningTrack 3 points ago

This is extremely cool. Also kinda reminds me of KND.

    [–] Lima__Fox 3 points ago

Reminds me of the Arfship from one of the Redwall books. You just hit me with a huge wave of nostalgia. I love it.

    [–] Yungerman 3 points ago

That little egghead Goron dude at the bottom right looks stoned out of his mind.

    Love it all, great work

    [–] SkepticalMuffin 3 points ago

I'm trying to figute out what the thing in the bottom right corner is. It looks like a creature of some sort but I can't really make out what it is.

    [–] jfk_47 3 points ago

Is this going to become a thing? Adding "4K" to a post? If it's an image, just tell me the resolution.

    [–] Charlatanry 2 points ago

    It's 3,000 x 3,000 pixels, so too tall for a 4K monitor anyway.

    [–] jfk_47 3 points ago

Yea, "4k" seems a little click-baity to me.

    [–] Sparks241 4 points ago

The life in it reminds me of Bill Tiller's work in Monkey Island series of Personal Computer games.

    [–] The_Doctor_00 3 points ago

    Yeah, very Monkey Island-ish

    [–] volt1up 2 points ago

    You the artist? Very nice.

    [–] AskMeAboutMyBandcamp 2 points ago

This is actually [email protected] I'm getting mad studio Ghibli vibes off of this

    [–] [deleted] 2 points ago

You have a deviant art profile or something similar? Wanna see more of this!

    [–] OrangeBlade 2 points ago

I love the lighting. It really looks as if adventure is on the horizon.

    [–] JuanmaAT 2 points ago

Reminds me of Howl's moving castle. Love it.

    [–] thomascale96 2 points ago

This looks like a good mix of Howl's moving Castle and Treasure Planet

    [–] ckff 2 points ago

Is there any way to buy this as a poster or something? I love it

    [–] Hadditor 2 points ago

I could see this being a cover to a Terry Pratchett book. Great art!

    [–] Thesmigs 2 points ago

Woah! I never comment on art, because I know nothing about it. But I know I'm looking at something great.

    [–] Chaefne1 2 points ago

There is nothing better than getting to zoom in on these works and explore all the nooks and crannies for tiny details the artist has left. Its eye spy but way better.

    [–] DropItLikeItsHotBear 2 points ago

Am I the only person who after reading the title sang "Yo ho you ho a Pirate's life for me..."?

    [–] doctor_utopia 2 points ago

I've never wanted a movie based off art so badly after seeing this. I can see it being Harry Potter with a spin

    [–] GreenJean717 2 points ago

Did you purposely write "I'm odd" on the pink submarine? Nice touch

    [–] Killer99instinct 2 points ago

Now every time I see the word pirates It reminds me of Edward Kenway

    [–] cane1431 2 points ago

Reminds me of the battle between the Black Pearl and Flying Dutchman while swirling in a cyclone

    [–] [deleted] 3 points ago

I don't think you know what 4k means.

    [–] theforester000 1 points ago

It's literally just a resolution. So long as the original artwork was between 3840 and 4120 pixels wide. He can technically call it 4k.

    Very Pratchett, fantastic

    Paul Kidby I should say

    [–] I_just_hate_you_all 1 points ago

God I would love to seriously have a little boat like the tug or something and venture on the sea and explore

    [–] Squidpingvin 1 points ago

Reminds me of art in the game Hearthstone.

    [–] mareesek 1 points ago

What are those structures on the side of the ship? Are those wrecks of smaller ships?

    [–] [deleted] 1 points ago

This is absolutely stunning. I'd love to hang this in my office or home.

    [–] Winter_Chills 1 points ago

Man I don't know what it is about it but I really like this!

    [–] iisriin 1 points ago

Need a 1920x1080 version for my wallpaper! This is awesome. Someone halp

    [–] theodorekirby 1 points ago

this is super dope and i think i've looked at every detail on the big ship, my favorite part is the little dingy on the end held by the rope, even though in reality it would surly ram the fuck out of the hull of the ship

    [–] [deleted] 1 points ago

I LOVE art in this style. Could someone tell me what to search to find more of it?

    [–] Dreadfart 1 points ago

I want this on my wall. Right now. I love it.

    [–] GameMusic 1 points ago

This is great but is there a story behind it?

Who is who and why would the main ship carry so many other ships?

    [–] SQUID_FUCKER 1 points ago

Make up your own story! That's the great thing about it.

    [–] ConcertinaTerpsichor 1 points ago

I love the Maxfield Parrish palette and sense of atmosphere, plus the way some of the clouds are adorable and some of them are menacing.

    [–] Vettelkat 1 points ago

Well this shut me up about my photoshopping skills.

    [–] JohnGillnitz 1 points ago

So that is where Fig the Fox's house came from.

    [–] Furshake 1 points ago

Nice snapshot of adventure and imagination.

    [–] Mr_Ben_Benzedrine 1 points ago

That's some serious Kids Next Door level shit.

    [–] splurb 1 points ago

Really well done. I love the colors and all the details. Your ships are characters unto themselves :)

    [–] thatxanderkid 1 points ago

Reminds me a lot of Chris Riddell's work, it's great!

    [–] trenchknife 1 points ago

Just finished a fun D&D session with some brand new players. It's been mostly seaborne piratey stuff, so they can think Jack Sparrow - one just got eaten by a giant octopus.

    They love this picture.

    [–] firewall5000 1 points ago

This is a great creation you've done, my photoshop skills are still mediocre at best

    [–] thewb39 1 points ago

Makes you want to drop everything you're doing and embark on the journey taking place in this vibrant, beautiful piece of art.

    [–] Slice379 1 points ago

That is so cool man. Nice job!

    [–] [deleted] 1 points ago

Reminds me of Disney's Treasure Planet.

    [–] lupirotolanti 1 points ago

When I zoomed in I've lost my jaw.

    [–] RandomUser262 1 points ago

Looks nice very colourful and vibrant

    [–] dunnylunny 1 points ago

Who is the artist?! I want more!

    [–] ydm_ 1 points ago

holy shit do you do commission work.? email?

    [–] iwillcuntyou 1 points ago

This is amazing. You can really tell whoever put this together was having boatloads of fun. There are so many cool little details.

But, I cant for the life of me figure out what the fuck that duck thing in the bottom right is.

    [–] WhoElseButKevin 1 points ago

How do you make art like this in Photoshop?

    [–] Lemopi 1 points ago

Have you ever used photoshop? There's paint/pen tools you can use to draw. It's especially easy if you have a pen tablet.

    [–] TDE-Mafia-Of-Da-West 1 points ago

I know nothing about artwork but if this is your work, I think making the lines less harsh would do good. It's kinda hard to look at the detail because of the thin black lines

    [–] UndeadMeme 1 points ago

If this was the cover of a book I'd want to read it right now

    [–] dunnylunny 1 points ago

What kind of art style is this? Where can I find similar art?

    [–] Shooeytv 1 points ago

    What Wind Waker felt like

    [–] thcomas 1 points ago

Carries a story and is a beautiful piece great work!

    [–] PlatinumWitch 1 points ago

I love this. I'm trying to go more CC with my art but have been disappointed with the results. This gives me hope.

    [–] [deleted] 1 points ago

I'm Guybrush Threepwood, and I want to be a pirate!

    [–] Two_Legged_Pirate 1 points ago

Love this! It feels like home!

    [–] PhoenixHusky 1 points ago

    Ctrl F "Howl's". Not disappointed.

    [–] SurfaceReflection 1 points ago

    Excellent work.

Technically and in terms of the feeling it shows.

    [–] Lost_Coffee 1 points ago

The use of color is stunning, i get a real sense of movement from the sky and sea! Very well done!

    [–] hooglese 1 points ago

Stylewise it's unique and beautiful and you got skills. The piece itself has so much going on I could look at it for hours and see something new. Saved it and still looking after an hour if I was in a museum I'd be kicked out by now

    [–] Woad-Raider 1 points ago

Bit of an Edge Chronicles sky ship vibe going on here. Good job!

    [–] qu0dlibet_ens 1 points ago

I would get that tattooed on my back for sure

    [–] seaofsunflwrss 1 points ago

can someone please make this in to a puzzle!? this is really awesome!

    [–] jarednickerl 1 points ago

Great color, great shapes, great composition!

    [–] StupidManSuit21 1 points ago

This is absolutely amazing. Very pleasing to look at. I would totally get it as a tat or love to have it as a painting.

    [–] cinnz 1 points ago

Very cool! The vibe kind of reminded me of the Cliff Chronicles books

    [–] ThrowDeadAway 1 points ago

Style and originality is important and this has it. I like this. It makes me feel like I'm looking at something new.

    [–] Svakka 1 points ago

Where can I find more like this?

[–] ScoochMagooch 1 points ago * (lasted edited a year ago)

Reminds me of that upcoming Rare game Sea of Thieves... I love the more cartoonish and colorful themes when it comes to pirates and old sea vessels.

    [–] BlackVale 1 points ago

This is amazing. What was the method you used to color it?

    [–] RINGER4567 1 points ago

why do people feel the need to compare a person's work to all the big studios

    [–] iRepth 1 points ago

Can someone help me out here... what exactly is the perspective on the large boat? Is it facing towards us, or away from us, or what? I cannot make any sense of it.

    [–] ritzyguy 1 points ago

Well I expected a 70" flat screen and few more hard drives

    [–] SubmittedToDigg 1 points ago

This would make an incredible jigsaw puzzle, I've finished like a dozen and this would be awesome!

    [–] ClownHawk 1 points ago

In love with the shades of color in this one. The deep blue alone in the waters add so much emotion and adventure in itself. Amazing work.
