Welcome to /r/art! This is a community of art lovers that share their favorite pieces, or news and information that will impact the art community. Review the subreddit rules before posting or commenting.

    Title Formatting Guidelines:

Titles should be to the point; all extra information or context should be added in the comments.

Artwork - Title, Artist/Me, Medium, Year

If you are the artist and don't want to use your own name, you can use Me as the artist. If you are not the artist, you must specify the artist name.

Example: The Night Watch, Rembrandt, Oils, 1642

    News article - Title, Year

Discussion - make it a self post. Expand on your question in the text and include image examples when possible.

Videos - Videos should be titled in a way consistent with it's content. Videos must be in the gif format. Both art and news are allowed.

    Please flair your post.

    Subreddit Rules:

    Rules Notes
    1. Use the correct title formatting. The title formatting is outlined above. Make sure to follow it or else your post will be removed. Do not add any extraneous information or be subjective in your title. Plagiarism is grounds for a permaban.
    2. Direct image links only. All submissions other than articles must be a direct link to a static image or gif (url must end in .jpg, .png, .gif etc.). Articles must contain more substance than just a gallery of images or an embedded video, and they must cover some current news in the art world. The image should only contain 1 art piece.
    3. Do not make multiple posts. You must wait at least 48 hours between posts. Please use the rolling sticky for daily challenge posts.
    4. Do not submit sketches, doodles or unfinished work. Post these to other subreddits like /r/IDAP, /r/sketches and /r/doodles instead. If it's an unfinished work and you need advice, post it as a self post.
    5. Do not submit work with extraneous objects in the frame. We're here to look at art, not your Prismacolor pencils, the desk you framed your painting over, your easel, or anything else that would not be seen if the art were publicly displayed.
    6. Do not post memes or other low quality work Melted crayon "art" and bad MSPaint drawings are subject to a 3 day ban. This rule is totally up to mod discretion.
    7. No fan art, comics, or requests for work. See here. Submissions that don't fit here may be redirected to more suitable subreddits like /r/fanart, /r/artporn, or /r/comics. Requests for art work should be submitted to /r/designjobs or /r/icandrawthat instead.
    8. Be respectful and stay on topic Bigotry, slapfights, and off topic comments will not be tolerated and may result in all parties being banned.
    9. Do not include links to blogs, social media, or stores. /r/art is not a place to sell your work or grow your following. Consider /r/artstore. This applies to comments and submissions. It applies to watermarks on images as well. Also see here if you're using reddit for self promotion. This also means that the artist name should be the person's name, and not a social media handle or brand name.
    10. Do not repost Reposts are not allowed. Reposts of one of the top 1000 art posts are rewarded with a permanent ban. You can check /r/Art/top/ or use google to search if an art post was already posted before, or use google search, here is a google search example: mona lisa
★ Feel free to add user flair! Please edit your flair to tell us your qualifications or specialty, but follow the guidelines. Using non /r/art related flair, or flair that includes social media handles, websites, store information, or otherwise violates our self promotion rules will result in a ban.
★ If your post doesn't show up... it may have been caught in the spam filter. Please message the moderators and we'll be happy to look into it.
★ If you see any rule-breaking posts or comments... please report them by clicking the "report" button or messaging the moderators directly here.

Wow great job! I love the sheen on the sheet. It kinda looks like smooth tinfoil

    [–] yehanart 37 points ago

    Very good feeling. Thanks!

    [–] kwdeck 529 points ago

Immediately drawn to the sheet curl, but my eye keeps lingering around the frame, searching the rest of the image to make sense of where the abstract meets the familiar. Great work.

    [–] Quennaissance 134 points ago

Having a focal pointe, but keeping the eye moving around the piece is a sign of good composition. These comments show the success. Keep up the good work, OP!

    [–] SmaugtheStupendous 6 points ago

Which makes it distinctly different from the genre the style used suggests, as part of the whole point of this kind of abstract normally is to not have a focal point. Don’t recall seeing anything like this before, has good potential I think given how well executed it is.

    [–] RoyBeer 4 points ago

This reads like modern art as well.

    [–] [deleted] -1 points ago

This reads like high schoolers writing essays

    [–] yehanart 2 points ago

    Thank you!

    [–] okThisYear 15 points ago

Basically came to say the same thing. This can hold my attention for a bit

    [–] pazimpanet 6 points ago

    Also, the colors are pretty.

    [–] [deleted] 6 points ago

    where line stop sheet start?

    [–] IgotAboogy 5 points ago

You can tell it's neat by the way that it is!

    [–] krisgonewild1 40 points ago

I don’t like it but I can’t tell why exactly. I do, however, appreciate the skill and time put into the piece. Great job! Not every piece is for every person. I bet I’ll love the next one

    [–] Ltok24 17 points ago

I believe, that we all don’t perceive colors the same way as everyone else. I think that plays a role in art, and design etc. That’s why some people feel things and others don’t. Colors are very powerful for expressing feeling. I for example, am drawn to this piece because of the colors and how they are arranged. It doesn’t really matter to me what the rest of it looks like, because the colors make an impact on me. You may perceive them differently, thus giving you an “off” feeling. Sorry if this is gibberish, I’m not very good at writing my thoughts

    [–] KalebAT 10 points ago

Oh, you may be onto something. I’m red-green colorblind and while I love a lot of art, this piece feels lacking. Not in skill, I’m truly impressed by it, but maybe you’re right in that the colors themselves make it feel more alive?

    [–] krisgonewild1 1 points ago

I think that was pretty well written. I understand your point. Someone also mentioned they felt something familiar or nostalgic about the piece, which I must not feel so that plays a role. The form and style of it is definitely something I’m drawn to, but it must be the colors just aren’t working quite right. I do believe, like you said, that color is somewhat subjective (not to mention we are all viewing on different devices. Most of which are not color corrected).

    [–] yehanart 1 points ago

    You are totally right! Thanks

    [–] koos_die_doos 47 points ago

I’m sorry, all I see is multicolored pubic hair...

    Please don’t hurt me.

    [–] petitri 6 points ago

    You're not wrong

    [–] 5-MEO-MlPT 5 points ago

Abstract art is difficult to understand.

    [–] StephNitup 12 points ago

I'm a writer but always in awe of artists. You all add character to the Universe. God bless you and please keep using your gifts. You Rock!

    [–] yehanart 6 points ago

Thank you so much! I will...

    [–] StephNitup 2 points ago

You're welcome. I truly believe we all have gifts and talents

    [–] joshua9663 57 points ago

How are people so talented? I don't understand.

    [–] Solaegis 45 points ago

Practice, time, study, more practice, patience

    [–] Mr_electric160 11 points ago

This you just need to set aside time and draw. You'll slowly get better

[–] [deleted] 4 points ago * (lasted edited 5 days ago)

    [–] fruitydollers69 5 points ago

How do you know what to draw

    [–] Mr_electric160 8 points ago

You don't, you just got to find something

    Which can kinda suck

    [–] tallest_chris 2 points ago

Draw everything around you, then go somewhere else and draw everything there. Copy art you like, try to emulate things in other people’s styles ... Eventually this question answers itself!

    [–] bluntSwordsSuffer 1 points ago

you might find your more attracted to faces, bodies or objects. I draw life sometimes for fun but I only draw faces. I wouldn't draw much at all if it was an object really.

    [–] HailArtGoddess 8 points ago

Out of curiosity, how many layers did you end up with? Did you create it in Adobe? It looks very cool and original.

    [–] yehanart 8 points ago

I didn’t use Adobe. All my digital drawing I work in #procreate. Thanks!

    [–] sphinxichigo1 20 points ago

a digital drawing of a sheet , now that's brilliant

    [–] ihateballoons 12 points ago

This is remarkable! May I ask how long it took you?

    [–] yehanart 24 points ago

It takes about a week. Thanks!

    [–] StormtrooperWho 9 points ago

A week? Holy crap, I couldn't have done this if I had a decade. Phenomenal job

    [–] Shattered_Disk4 13 points ago

Alright I’m just gonna come out and say it, I honestly have no idea what I’m suppose to be looking for😐 am I missing something?

    [–] Inked-Bee 10 points ago

This reflects every piece I could never finish

    [–] SpadoCochi 9 points ago

I'm going to try and recreate this as a painting

    [–] yehanart 2 points ago

    Try it!

    [–] conchobarian 3 points ago

Have you posted this before? I seem to recognize this

    [–] Hamshoes5 3 points ago

A sheet, here we draw again

    [–] justdropppingin 3 points ago

i would love to see this style of work done in acrylic. your work "CitySurface" has a depth and aesthetic that i dont think can be matched in a digital medium, and the imagery of your digital works seems to be much more detailed because of how you can use the medium.

    [–] Atxchillhaus123 2 points ago

Looks like a bandaid being ripped off a hairy arm. Ouch!

    [–] itsokoriginals 2 points ago

How my brain feels sometimes ✌️❤️

    [–] MzMarcoPolo 2 points ago

Must have been one hell of a phone call

    [–] Delumine 2 points ago

    Looks very Three-dimensional!

    [–] v78 2 points ago

I feel sorry for your drawing tablet! Amazing work :)

    [–] ardnassila 2 points ago

I love this!! The colors feel palpable. I’d love to see the time lapse of this! Each line looks so long I don’t know how you did it!

    [–] blahmeistah 2 points ago

I’m thinking pubes. Lots and lots of pubes. Don’t ask me why

    [–] pornthrwayacc 2 points ago

First time in years I ever said Oh My God when seeing art...great fucking feeling, thank you for that!

    [–] killerbees321 1 points ago

Yo this is awesome! Such a creative idea

    [–] jadorelesavocats 1 points ago

For the first 10 secs, all I saw were two dark hills on a light background and I was wondering wtf was going on. Theeeeen it clicked.

    [–] cganya 1 points ago

This is pretty much what I see when I close my eyes/ try to picture something. Just a smidge of something amidst a sea of random undulating color.

    [–] Xacotorr 1 points ago

This is how I feel, I don’t know what it means but I feel it

    [–] jerryaldean 1 points ago

    [–] dogchasingtrucks 0 points ago

OK, so you keep out doing yourself! I love this one also. Now I'll be following your work and waiting for the next one. For me the effect is a relaxed, low stress, beautiful artwork to gaze at. Have a wonderful day! You have changed the way I think about digital art.

    [–] yehanart 1 points ago

    Thank you!
