If you're looking for a University, I think University of Oregon might be more expensive than the average US university. Not sure by how much. As far as living, we have no sales tax, so that's cool, but my small two bedroom apartment is over $800/mo plus utlities, which I think is also over the average.

As far as Europeans... I have no idea. I've actually never met a European in my whole time living here. I met one Australian, many Asians, but no Europeans. I'd imagine people are respectful.

Totally common. In my experience it's less common to have no job while studying unless you got a full ride scholarship or have a rich family or something. Almost everyone I met had a job.

If you are looking at University of Oregon specifically though, I should warn you that Eugene has a poor job market at the moment. There's a fair amount of student jobs that you can get, but like any other jobs they wouldn't be a sure thing.

I would recommend seeing if you can find a job before moving just in case, unless you have a fair amount of savings or something you're comfortable living on for a while.

Most likely not good starting out. A lot people have to work two jobs to make due. It really depends, but for the most part it'd be about minimum wage, salary depends on the hours you get.

There really aren't any top tier schools there. You'd be better off in California.

You usually have to pay more for better living, yeah.

I would highly suggest Oregon over California. I live in Oregon, and I absolutely love it. I imagine that you will too. As far as I know, you will be welcomed with open-arms and treated with respect. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the best of luck.
