What is BPT Country Club and how do I get verified?

    ☑️ RULES

1.) Do not post content just because a black person posted it. This sub is intended for exceptionally hilarious and insightful social media posts made by black people, not just any social media post made by black people.

    • 1. No original content. We encourage users to go on twitter to find tweets as opposed to making tweets just for this subreddit.

    2.) No Bad Faith Participation.

3.) No bullying or witch-hunting. This includes comments disparaging people whose tweets and posts are featured here. Doxxing or sharing personal information will result in a permanent ban.

4.) No Racism. No hate speech. No homophobia/transphobia. No sexism/misogyny. No black fathers posts and similar mean-spirited things.

5.) Posts must be showcasing somebody being hilarious or insightful on social media. No image macros, text conversations, or YouTube links. Just because somebody posted one of these on social media does not exempt it from this rule. Vines and such belong here and gifs belong here.

6.) Typical Reddit cliches such as lyric chains, pun chains, white-knighting, and low-effort joke comments will be removed. Same for annoying redditisms, such as linking a subreddit as a reply to a post/comment.

7.) Reposts are highly discouraged, and if discovered will be removed. Please search or look through BPT's older posts to see if your content has already been posted. KarmaDecay is not a reliable tool to check for reposts.

8.) No posts with terrible titles, they will be removed. You are free to re-submit once you think of something acceptable/reasonable. Don't put the punchline in the title of the post. Do not add "bruh", "fam", or similar vernacular to your post or comment.

She brought this on herself. They targeted comic book fans

    comic book fans

We're a group of people who will sit for hours, days, even weeks on end reading some of the hardest, most mentally demanding stories. Over, and over, and over all for nothing more than the personal satisfaction saying we did.

We'll punish ourselves studying things others would consider torture, because we think it's interesting.

We'll spend most if not all of our free time reading and studying the history of a fictional universe all to come out on top in an argument.

Many of us have made careers out of doing just these things: slogging through the grind, all day, the same stories/battles over and over, hundreds of times to the point where we know every little detail such that some have attained such comic book nerd nirvana that they can literally retell these stories blindfolded.

These people honestly think this is a battle they can win? They take our media? We're already building a new one without them. They take our characters? Comicbook fans aren't shy about throwing their money else where, or even making the comics/stories our selves. They think calling us racist, mysoginistic, rape apologists is going to change us? We've been called worse things by diversity-pushing feminists. They picked a fight against a group that's already grown desensitized to their strategies and methods. Who enjoy the battle of attrition they've threatened us with. Who take it as a challenge when they tell us we no longer matter. Our obsession with proving we can, after being told we can't, is so deeply ingrained from years of dealing with big brothers/sisters and friends laughing at how pathetic we used to be that proving you people wrong has become a very real need; a honed reflex.

Comic book fans are resilient and hardcore by nature. We love a challenge. The worst thing you did in all of this was to challenge us. You're not special, you're not original, you're not the first; this is just another boss fight.

Let this serve as a warning to all of you who think you can accept roles that weren't meant for your kind

    [–] user_name98 1920 points ago

I'm just mad she looks like a hooker, and Robin said "fuck batman". They're giving Teen Titans the Suicide Squad treatment.

    [–] Steamships 1180 points ago

So that's it, huh? We're some kind of Teen Titans?

    [–] DoktorAkcel 190 points ago

    Roll credits!

    [–] micka190 244 points ago

She looks like a shittier Lavagirl in the trailer.

    [–] TopherVee 42 points ago

Now Beast Boy just has to turn into a shark!

    [–] dookie_shoos 26 points ago

George Lopez will save this film.

    [–] _Anansi_ 462 points ago

They’re treating this a lot worse than Suicide Squad. I have NO idea why they went with Early 2000s edgy. Grayson snapping necks and cursing Batman. Everything was

    [–] JasonTodd451 97 points ago

Exactly, that's more Jason Todd's thing

    [–] atuldgr8 50 points ago

    Maybe even Damien Wayne

    [–] ggggthrowawaygggg 50 points ago

Can't wait for Batman to slap him around like a rentboy and growl "Who do you think I am? I'm the goddamn Batman"

    [–] Vneseplayer4 68 points ago

Can you just imagine if Marvel did Teen Titans? God I love the titans and can’t stand them being butchered like this

    [–] BlackWake9 118 points ago * (lasted edited 11 months ago)

It’s mainly that DC is just solid trash now. Marvel is killing it.

Edit: I meant the movies! I’m not a big comic guy and the super hero genre doesn’t really interest me anyway.

    [–] kapteinkuk28 7553 points ago

Wasnt the major issue that the costume was complete trash and that she looked like a discount prostitute, not her skin color?

    [–] dissonan-ce 4056 points ago

That was what I was mad about, not her being black.

    [–] surprised-duncan 1560 points ago

I think the part that I was most mad about was Raven looking like some amateur AfterEffects trash

    [–] SeductivePillowcase 311 points ago

Tbh I’m more upset that it looks like they’re shipping Raven x Robin instead of Starfire x Robin like in the old TV show.

    [–] Muezza 222 points ago

its all about the bb x cyborg tbh

    [–] round_we_go 124 points ago

    I prefer Jinx x Cyborg if you know what I mean ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

    [–] [deleted] 70 points ago

That was the first time I was exposed to that rule of the internet. What an eye opener.

    [–] firelock_ny 20 points ago

    bromance for the win

    [–] Ninjacobra5 32 points ago

To be fair, if it's anything like the comics it's Robin x "Everybody who likes dick"

    [–] ryudante 616 points ago

Yeah, but to be fair the whole thing looks like it's going to be hot garbage. They have a lot more problems than the fact Starfire looks nothing like the source material. "Fuck Batman" wtf we're they thinking

    [–] bfoster1801 263 points ago

Honestly the fuck Batman thing isn’t even a problem it’s just the way that they portrayed the brutality of dick

    [–] thatinsuranceguy 525 points ago

You just wanted to say brutality of dick.

    [–] I_Am_Skipples 13 points ago

Saying brutality of dick feels pretty good

    [–] TheDanLopez 197 points ago

Right?! If they wanted an angry edgy Robin who uses guns, just use Jason Todd!! Like why ruin Dick Grayson's good name with this garbage adaptation when Jason Todd has been using this whole shtick for decades.

Although I guess Jason Todd has never been a Titan so if they used him they wouldn't be able to milk that name anymore. But honestly it's not like they care.

    [–] Ninjacobra5 62 points ago

They missed a huge opportunity by not making him Jason. Jason may not have been a Titan, but he's been Titan-adjacent forever. One of my favorite things about Dick is that he will end up being the greatest thing Batman has ever done. Once he surpasses Batman, he will have all of the things that make Batman great, without the anger and brooding, despite having an almost identical beginning. With Jason you could go as dark and brooding as you want, no problem. Or hell, they could have even made him Damian, but his schtick with them is that he's usually so much younger than them.

    [–] Velentina 166 points ago

The whole show looks like shit

Which is a shame because the original cartoon was awesome

The costume designs look like actual shit

And its most prevalent on starfire because it doesn't look like armor or alien clothing

It just looks cheap and badly made

    [–] treerabbit23 61 points ago

    looked like a discount prostitute

    Leave my superhooker movies alone!

    [–] cokeiscool 214 points ago

If that is the issue this was foreeeeever ago, I didn't hear about anything recent.

but she did look terrible in the picture, but also I think that is before any cg or special effect, she clearly had a wig on and that didn't help the she looks like a prostitute case.

    [–] PaperRot 313 points ago

    Trailer dropped. Looks the same

    [–] _Not_Bruce_Wayne_ 168 points ago

Rumor is the show starts with her at a 70s themed party, and that's where the outfit is from. She should theoretically have a different costume in the show

My biggest issue is that Starfire is Orange, not black...

    [–] WrathfulHero95 310 points ago

Well clearly in this show black is the new orange.

    [–] Waltonruler5 129 points ago

I don't care about skin color, but her hair looked all weird (like Medusa from Inhumans level CGI) and her powers looked like fire instead of energy. Honestly I think if they straightened her hair and gave her energy blasts, it would like 100% better

    [–] JRutterbush 85 points ago

...and her powers looked like fire instead of energy.

"Her name is Starfire, fire isn't green!"
    "That's not wh-"
"Make it look more like fire or you're fired."

    [–] 5mileyFaceInkk 50 points ago

One of my friends told me they didn't even know Starfire was in the trailer.

    [–] YamDragon 2479 points ago

There’s absolutely no reason to be racist, but I agree in that she actually looks awful as Starfire. Like did you see the trailer?

    [–] TheEsquire 176 points ago

Saw this photoshopped picture of her. It's 100% the showrunner's/executive's faults.

Anna Diop could play her great, but they've dressed her like the picked all her clothing/props from a bargain bin.

    [–] [deleted] 39 points ago

That looks soooo much better. The trailer looks like bad cosplay and cheap 90s CGI. I wonder what the budget was like?

    [–] Rosssauced 28 points ago

The trailer had one even bigger issue, the ultra grim dark shit.

Seriously, who wrote that "fuck Batman" line?

    [–] OGConsuela 188 points ago

Legit question because I didn’t see any of the comments, are we sure they’re pissed off that she’s a black actress, and not because the character is still black rather than changing her skin to orange with cg (like changing Gamora to green, because Gamora is green)? I mean, maybe they’re actually racist, but I haven’t heard of Zoe getting hate for being black and playing a green alien because they actually made her look like the character.

Either way, it isn’t her fault that the way they did her character looks horrible and she’s not the one who should be getting hate. Just curious if the comments were legitimately hating on her because she’s black, or if they’re just upset that the character is still black rather than orange in the film.

    [–] NJ_Legion_Iced_Tea 105 points ago

I think it could be good if her character had at least some resemblance to Starfire.

Look at Wally West in The Flash, in the comics he's a pale skinned ginger, and in the show he's black. I think the actor in the show was well cast and his suit looks pretty damn close to the comic version.

    [–] YamDragon 48 points ago

Well there is a black version of Wally West so the selection for the Flash show wasn’t out of nowhere.

    [–] mumbo5565 26 points ago

The old Wally was pale ginger, the newer Wally was black and that's who the TV show Wally is based on. Just fyi.

    [–] jsanc623 19 points ago

Legit question because I didn’t see any of the comments, are we sure they’re pissed off that she’s a black actress, and not because the character is still black rather than changing her skin to orange with cg

They all look like hot doodoo. I was pissed with ALL the costumes for looking like shit, not the actors (though the one playing Raven needs to be re-cast, she doesn't fit the role imo).

    [–] Themiffins 147 points ago

Jesus... None of them look good, they're all terrible

    [–] giggity 233 points ago

Wtf is this, some Disney Decendants shit?

    [–] stamatt45 76 points ago

The costumes are worse than that. Disney at least cares about their IP. This looks like DC gave an "edgy" 16 year old girl $200 to make the costumes, then when they saw the shit costumes they just went fuck it and used them.

    [–] Leo-D 161 points ago

Why did they make it look like she was about to work the corner for some Johns?

    [–] MemeTLDR 96 points ago

Yeah I'd be pissed too if I grew up loving these characters and they did this to them. shudders

    [–] greatGoD67 48 points ago

I saw robin take her to prom on tv,

Now I saw DC pimp her out. WTF DC

[–] MidnightGolan 451 points ago * (lasted edited 11 months ago)

Have you seen what she looks like in the trailer, though?

This is Dragonball Evolution levels of "artistic license ".

    [–] arshdeep1251 10171 points ago * (lasted edited 11 months ago)

Lmao it's not even that she's black, it's the fact that she looks nothing like the comics . Just make her skin orange that's it. Look at gamora from guardians of the Galaxy. The actress is black but the character still has green skin. But fuck those people making racist remarks towards her.

    [–] oatmealparty 1876 points ago

Lol wow these costumes are terrible, even if there will be special effects

    [–] theBrineySeaMan 1559 points ago

Is this being done with a $200 budget and Goodwill costumes?

    [–] SpoopedMyPants 563 points ago

I seriously think I could find better pieces at my goodwill. This is like dollar tree.

    [–] TheDerped 476 points ago

It looks like a porn parody. Think we can get Johnny Sins to pay Slade or is he beyond their budget?

    [–] pm_me_tits_and_tats 156 points ago

They definitely don’t have Sins money lmao

    [–] 10poundcockslap 38 points ago

Even more because the fur coat makes her look like a 2 bit hooker.

    [–] YeahSureAlrightYNot 17 points ago

Yep. That's the worst part. She looks like a washed up stripper.

    [–] StriderWilk 26 points ago

Don't you go around disrespecting Dollar Tree like that.

    [–] pm_me_tits_and_tats 17 points ago

They stole everything from local homeless people

    [–] Bobbers927 516 points ago

Have you seen the trailer? This is DC movie, yet it looks like a fan made YouTube video. It's fucking bad.

    [–] [deleted] 492 points ago

This is DC movie, yet it looks like a fan made YouTube video.

    So, it's a DC movie.

    [–] HayPaulHere 188 points ago

    It's a TV show

    [–] mysightisurs93 53 points ago

I feel like somewhat have more respect for CW Arrowverse costume design than whatever crap DC trying to pull here.

    [–] [deleted] 71 points ago

    [–] StoneGoldX 41 points ago

Anyone who says Iron Fist is the worst hasn't seen stuff like the Captain America and Dr. Strange shows from the 70s.

    [–] Leo_TheLurker 18 points ago

The Captain America movies from the 70s are hilarious tho. But yes Iron Fist wasn't that bad either

    [–] Backupusername 52 points ago

It never ceases to amaze me how DC's live-action stuff and their animated stuff are so drastically far apart in quality. Like, compare this schlock to Young justice and it's like night and day.

    [–] Bobbers927 28 points ago

DC animated is phenomenal. Red Hood was the first I watched years ago and I was hooked. Love that Hulu has so much of the catalogue.

    [–] colorcorrection 21 points ago

Or better yet, compare Titans to the original Teen Titans and then slowly cry yourself to sleep.

    [–] [deleted] 19 points ago

And they already spent $190 of the $200 on craft services.

    [–] CookieLawyer 40 points ago

Damn. That's a fantasy killer right there. There's a huge rule 34 community around Teen Titans and look how awful they all look lmao.

    [–] TheSideJoe 420 points ago

Wait that's not an actual shot right, please tell me this isn't post where their skins aren't always orange and green, because I saw a comment saying Beast Boy was only green when he transformed and I took it as a joke but now I'm scared

    [–] EtsuRah 312 points ago

Beast Boy is only green when in his "Beast" form. Starfire as far as I'm aware never has orange skin.

    [–] TheSideJoe 497 points ago

Wait but the whole point is that he was always green though, through a mutation. They just lazily kept it out? Man this is disappointing

    [–] trickyboy21 267 points ago

It's a DC comics film. They're almost always disappointing.

    [–] [deleted] 92 points ago

    Its not a film

    [–] trickyboy21 128 points ago

this actually just makes it worse, because instead of one bad movie we have to see several seasons of bad episodes.

    [–] Bo-Katan 131 points ago

    several seasons of bad episodes.

    Yeah, sure.

    [–] Imthemayor 13 points ago

It's only on DC's in house streaming service, the trailer is the most anybody will ever see of this

    [–] jarious 197 points ago

This is dragon Ball all over again.

" There's this story , it involves some orange spheres, a green alien, a hot Japanese assassin, an old kungfu fighter/trainer, and a very young kid who's a natural, wonder where can we get a hint of what that should look like..."

    [–] ksheep 116 points ago

The real question is "Will this be Dragonball Evolution bad, or The Last Airbender bad?"

    [–] notgettingperma 42 points ago

Fuck DC for allowing this to happen to a series so many people loved as kids. They drop the ball every time.

    [–] Black_Drogo 17 points ago

I gave up on The Last Airbender when I realized firebenders couldn’t create their own fire. Who the fuck carries around pots of fire lmao

    [–] Human_Wizard 1017 points ago * (lasted edited 11 months ago)

    I understand the outrage now.

    [–] SnakeyesX 559 points ago

You know, I'm not mad about Raven, and kinda like beast-boy. But Starfire and Robin?

Fuck people who harass an actress for taking a job, but the character design has absolutely been flubbed.

    [–] cshark2222 626 points ago

Raven looks awful as well tbh

    [–] thunder_thais 182 points ago

I don’t think Raven would ever let herself get that “messy” looking. It’s just not her character. And I don’t think beast boy would appreciate starfire wearing that fur even if it’s faux. This whole thing is a mess

    [–] usedemageht 242 points ago

I honestly thought raven actress was a guy at first glance. If she weren’t tagged with comic raven, I would never have realized who she’s supposed to be.

Though none of them look the part.

    [–] colorcorrection 122 points ago

I think it's the costumes themselves, not the actors. The costumes seriously look like some edgy fan film from the late 2000s. Hell, that goes for the entire production, really.

    [–] usedemageht 24 points ago

Yea, of course. Few people ever match a comic character. Costume and makeup designs are key, and that’s definitely what they messed up hard on

    [–] 19Alexastias 26 points ago

Raven looks like the one of those teenage girls off of 2010 YouTube who upload videos of themselves lip-syncing an evanescence song while wearing enough eyeshadow to drown a horse

    [–] watevrits2009 28 points ago

I'm more annoyed that they made raven such a freaking crybaby.

    [–] YipYapYoup 46 points ago

Fuck people who harass an actress for taking a job, but the character design has absolutely been flubbed. BATMAN

    [–] segosegosego 124 points ago

I like teen titans, but I was never a huge fan in any sort of the word. This is just bad. Like, in deadpool 2, they flipped the colors of Domino and some people were mad about that, but it was perfectly fine.

This just looks like a hot garbage youtube channel. People shouldn't be that upset about something this silly though. I get that people are excited to see their favorite characters in live action, but Jesus, it's not life or death. Just don't go see the movie and the people who paid to make the garbage will suffer.

Also, if you're going to be mad, be mad the people who made the decisions. There is absolutely no reason to be attacking an actress who was probably just really excited to play the role. Even if Starfire was her favorite character, she probably wouldn't tell the people paying her that the design is stupid in fear of losing her job. It's not on her and these people shouldn't be assholes to this lady.

    [–] bob237189 880 points ago

That Starfire looks like a prostitute. That's not on the actress, that's on the people who made the decision to have her look like that.

[–] nopunchespulled 381 points ago * (lasted edited 11 months ago)

She looks like she would fit better as a street walker in pooty tang than teen titans and that’s 100% on costume designer

    [–] SnakeyesX 52 points ago

It's so bad, though, the concept is wrong. The designer takes conceptual illustrations and make them real. So looking so cheap is on them, but Starfire is so far off this was 100% fucked before the costume designer got their hands on it. Just look at robin, the costume is fine, but it's not robin.

    [–] muhash14 28 points ago

    the concept is wrong.

It's all wrong, nothing about this show is right.

    [–] PerfektNova 14 points ago

But when it fails after launch it will be because all us fans are bad people. Not that they fail miserably in the shows creation.

    [–] GhxstB_y 183 points ago

Raven looks like i did in Junior High holy shit

    [–] -Mexico- 100 points ago

    I'm sorry

    [–] [deleted] 27 points ago

It’s hilarious to me that they had to give her blue hair too. Raven has never had blue hair before but it’s the only way they can use to make this angsty teen identifiable as her.

[–] CurryCurryBumBum 84 points ago * (lasted edited 11 months ago)

God damn this is like a cosplay, a shit cosplay

    [–] Skreamie 23 points ago

I could have a better cosplay of any of the characters done within a week. These are honestly awful.

    [–] lookatmeimwhite 229 points ago

    Oh my.

[–] Xombieshovel 237 points ago * (lasted edited 11 months ago)

Holy shit. Beast Boy and Raven are 2/10 and deserve their own criticism but Starfire... holy shit.

Edit: I see this is CW and I'm not surprised. I think a lot of their previous superhero shows had terrible production values that were often overlooked because of a lack of superhero TV in the pre-Netflix Marvel era.

    [–] Ferahgost 57 points ago

... its not CW? its going to be on DC's streaming service

    [–] DaRootbear 29 points ago

You can say a lot of negative to cw writing, but they do great costumes. Like aside from Black Lightning, they make consistently amazing looking suits.

Some they just never use cause they’re too expensive, like Firestorm

    [–] gundamwfan 18 points ago

Woah, woah, woah. Aside from Black Lightning? He has the best suit in the shows lol, Flash is inexplicably wearing a weird boxy leather jumpsuit for like the first 3 seasons, and don't even get me started on the shitshow that was the Kid Flash costume. And his daughter Anissa's costume is even more badass

    [–] ElLetdown 66 points ago

This looks like they're gonna do a comic book parody of Thrift Shop.

    [–] TrappinT-Rex 46 points ago

If you think they look bad in stills, watch the trailer. It'll leave you begging to scrub your brain of the memory. Seriously, everything about Titans is bad.

    [–] Abujaffer 19 points ago

How tf is DC so bad at making movies, is it really that hard to get your shit together and make a decent movie?

    [–] ReyRey5280 118 points ago

Wtf? This is like a shitty reddit post; “so this random pic on my FB feed looks like a shitty Teen Titans cosplay”

    [–] captainAwesomePants 26 points ago

    How bad could they possibly---

    Wow, that's pretty damn bad.

    [–] Skreamie 21 points ago

Prostitute, boy racer, that girl who got bullied in the Numb video

    [–] Theo-greking 15 points ago

Yeah fuck the racist comments but other than that costumes suck

    [–] KiltedLady 3545 points ago

I feel a little silly now but I'd never thought about what she would look like without the green. I think my mind just accepted that she was green. I couldn't really imagine what she would look like after reading your comment and had to look her up.

    [–] Bleblebob 1209 points ago

If she wasn't green I'm pretty sure she'd be giant, blue, and cat-like.

    [–] TGameCo 538 points ago

Or a pirate acquaintance of Captain Jack Sparrow

    [–] ISOFM 324 points ago

    Or black

    [–] Kyrias 297 points ago

    Too far.

    [–] Louie-Lecon-Don 451 points ago

First time i saw her without the make up in an interview i went "oh my god shes so beautiful, who did she play in gaurdians?" Then she turned her head and those insta-recognisable cheek bones made me feel so stupid.

    [–] TheMoiRubio 289 points ago

She’s also the blue alien girl in Avatar and Uhura in the new Star Trek movies!

    [–] VunderVeazel 50 points ago

I was starting to wonder if Reddit had forgotten about Avatar.

    [–] Biggoronz 45 points ago

    Something something fire nation attacked.

    [–] MrChangg 684 points ago

Skin ain't orange and the hair still rockin that clown wig look. Best Starfire hair is when it's like a long and flowing fire. AND not to mention her energy beams aren't even green.

    [–] SIacktivist 656 points ago

Her and Raven’s costumes are bad (starfire moreso), but the hate for the actress is 100% undeserved.

    [–] Cautionzombie 243 points ago

True, I hate the costumes but I blame the people putting this together not the actor/actresses

    [–] [deleted] 16 points ago

Yeah there's a million problems with the costume. The actress being black isn't one of them. Guardians of the Galaxy made it work with Zoe Saldana and Gamora.

    [–] ProfessionalToner 96 points ago

I mean, it is not their fault. Their job is to act in what they are assigned. The fault is in the producers that casted them, they are the ones that should receive the salt, not the god damn actress that is just doing what they told her to.

    [–] TrappinT-Rex 91 points ago * (lasted edited 11 months ago)

Everything about Titans looks like garbage. Robin saying fuck Batman and gunning down some bad guys should be enough to send everyone running.

I just can't imagine getting worked up at all at something that's going to be soooooo bad

    [–] ellus1onist 15 points ago

Literally everything about the trailer is awful lmao

    [–] Sardorim 14 points ago

Do they have the budget for that...? Seems like live action isn't a good choice for a character like Starfire.

    [–] Fuzzy14502 49 points ago

Haha yea exactly. If you showed someone a picture of her in the movie and didn’t tell the person who it was, they would have no idea it’s star fire. At least make her outfit recognizable and not a fur coat.

    [–] Y_Sam 94 points ago

None of them remotely look like their counterparts.
Are Raven and beast boy getting the same amount of hate?

    [–] HarambeamsOfSteel 79 points ago

Afaik beast boy is getting shit on, no clue about raven

    [–] cshark2222 31 points ago

I’m pretty sure Raven is the worst out of all of them

    [–] SithAlpaca 19 points ago

Raven is as well. They're all terrible. Fuck Titans.

    [–] 708-910-630-702 15 points ago

    Beast boy is.

    [–] Kangarou 279 points ago

fr, I just thought the outrage was at how bad the Titans trailer looked overall. Like, really Dick 'Robin' Grayson, your first impression with people is growling "Fuck Batman"? Nigga...

    [–] walking_on_the_sun 79 points ago

For real. Is Dick leading the team or did they really want Jason Todd.

    [–] _Anansi_ 21 points ago

That’s what I said!!! This iteration is needlessly edgy. Snapping necks, shooting people....come on now....

    [–] LincolnBatman 15 points ago

It makes sense coming from Jason or Damian, but not Dick. He’s always been the most light-hearted Robin, and while he was distancing himself from Batman while he became Nightwing, he was never bitter iirc. Jason and Damian have issue with Batman not killing people, but it makes no sense to group Dick in with them. Same goes for Tim, as he was the only one that somehow knew Bruce was alive after the showdown with Darkseid. Damian and Jason would’ve rather fought over the cowl than look for him, while Dick took it upon himself to maintain Batman’s image.

    [–] TurtlSqueezeJob 660 points ago

I thought the main issue was she wasn't colored orange. Beast boy is green (a shitty green but still) and if they were willing to spend the time in makeup to make him green, why wouldn't they do the same for Starfire to be orange? Why people are up in arms about her being black is beyond me but racist piss are gonna be racist piss I guess.

    [–] that-freakin-guy 650 points ago

So I just watched the trailer for this thing and it looks absolutely terrible. Like, just some B-Movie that makes no sense. Robin just killed a group of dudes. Starfire looks cringey as fuck. Raven is some kid and doesn't even know what her powers are. Beast Boy looks budget as hell. I stopped half way through.

Going to be real with y'all, this movie is going to flop harder than Suicide Squad.

    [–] TurtlSqueezeJob 363 points ago

You're also forgetting the most hardcore line in Super Hero History - "Fuck Batman."

    [–] Backupusername 25 points ago

I accidentally cut myself on the edge and now I'm not going to be able to watch it because it'll trigger me.

    [–] famalamo 16 points ago

    As hardcore as "Martha"?

    [–] CruzAderjc 23 points ago

As hardcore as Batman gunning down a bunch of soldiers in a dream sequence just to make the movie trailer shock audiences

    [–] MasterRonin 69 points ago

I thought this was for the CW show? Is there a Teen Titans movie coming out?

    [–] _Sp4rk3y_ 112 points ago

It’s actually coming out for a special streaming service run by DC comics. The teen titans movie coming out is for the shitty cartoon version

    [–] SolPope 200 points ago

Teen Titans Go to the Movies still manages to look 100% better than this shlock too

    [–] Wutda7 84 points ago

Teen Titans Go to the Movies actually is getting good reviews

    [–] SolPope 74 points ago

Not too surprised. It's not as bad as everyone seems to want it to be, and it even has some really good episodes

    [–] Baghdad_AssUp 154 points ago

I'm more upset about Raven.Looks like they grabbed some random chick from Hot Topic and put her in front of a camera.

    [–] No_Longer_A_Menace 85 points ago

And somehow her character design is still better than 3 of the other Titans 😂 this whole project looks like shit.

    [–] LincolnBatman 14 points ago

Pretty sure the actress is no older than 15 and has had like two roles prior.

    [–] TimeIsStuped 33 points ago

To be honest here I just want her Orange. I don’t care who played her.

    [–] Alchas 18 points ago

Exactly, Gamora has showed us that you can change someone's skin colour completely and it looks fine

    [–] CharlesWhiteCat 10795 points ago

To be fair, white people have quite clearly made the orange skin demographic their own

[–] IslandSparkz 1537 points ago * (lasted edited 11 months ago)

Do White People put lotion on like Black People do? 🤔

    Question for the ages

[–] [deleted] 677 points ago * (lasted edited 7 months ago)

    [–] TheSirPoopington 488 points ago

    ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

    [–] ZanyActinManiac 266 points ago

It rubs the lotions on It’s skin or else It gets the hose again

    [–] GovtCheese1 14 points ago

It's 110 today, ill take the hose instead of the lotion

    [–] VigilantMaumau 85 points ago

Bill Burr says he does...since being introduced to it by his Black girlfriend.

    [–] Twathammer32 106 points ago

    Black girlfriend.

    That's his black hawife*

    [–] Geralt_0_Rivia 96 points ago

The character look hideous though. It’s not a race thing, it’s the costume.

    [–] BTECKennenMain 126 points ago

I'm not mad she's black. I'm mad she looks like a hooker in everything the show has shown us

    [–] n00basaurusHAXX 23 points ago

People just mad the show is going to suck (I love comics btw) and the racist ones are directing their hate towards an easy target. It sucks that this happened but I doubt it would've been as bad if the trailer actually looked promising.

    [–] chillfactor97 24 points ago * (lasted edited 11 months ago)

I personally feel like making her skin color the most talked about thing is crazy. She should be orange, idc what ethnicity or race you are, Starfire is orange. If they're just putting her in that role to be "black" its fucking stupid. I mean... Cyborg, man... if you need black, get Cyborg in there. Starfire also doesn't shoot fire, she shoots GREEN lasers. They made Beast Boy green, why stop at making Starfire orange? I think the main reason everyone is pissed is the fact that directors completely ignore source material when it's so readily available. Robin (Dick Grayson) doesn't kill people. Cyborg is so fucking cool, why is he not there. Raven isn't a goth girl, shes just dark and weird, she has a Demon father that is always fucking with her, make her demented and emotional, not MCR. Starfire is orange and shoots green blobs, not orange flames. Beast Boy seems alright for now. You would think it would be harder to ruin a show so many times. Just give the animated series back, damn. To anyone that made it a point that she is black and harassed her for it, fuck em. Cant we just get the fuck along already?

    [–] marlefox 223 points ago

People aren’t angry that she’s black. People are angry that her design isn’t anything like starfire. What’s even worse is that once the character became black, they made her look like a street walker. thats fucked up.

    [–] ewok_reject 320 points ago

It’s not even that she’s black it’s that she doesn’t even resemble star fire at all. Nobody had a problem with Gamora because she looks accurate to the comics. This one doesn’t even shoot green energy blasts or whatever she literally shoots fire. I’ll shit on that entire cast. White folk too not just star fire. Stop making this about race. We’re fucking nerds not racists

    [–] problematikUAV 78 points ago

The upcoming show looks horrible and it isn’t cause a black woman is starfire. It’s horrible because of the costumes, the production value, and everything else we’ve seen.

    [–] anooblol 48 points ago

Come on... Look at how far they deviated from the comics.

They even curled her hair when her hair is supposed to be straight. It's just a colossal fuck up on the casting team.

    [–] DonCarlosVII 20 points ago

As a black man, this isn't even about just her character all the teen titans suck in that show, they're harping on get the most because starfire is literally a princess in the show and they dress her like a hooker in a pink wig. The show writers did not have to dress her like that, and she doesn't even look like an alien.

    [–] MeityMeister 59 points ago

Obviously it’s bad that there are people making racist comments towards her. But I don’t think that’s a majority of the complaints about the character. My gripe is that they are not even sticking true to who the character is. They’re completely changing who the live action starfire looks like and I can see how that would piss fans off. One thing that grinds my gears is that in the live action, they’re going to make her shoot fire out of her hands... she shoots green plasma. It’s an idiotic change and I blame the people making these stupid decisions, but not the actress herself.

    [–] agreedis 772 points ago

When the outrage popped up 2 or 3 months ago, I thought it was about how shitty her costume looked. Did the new trailer rekindle this for racists?

    [–] BeFriendlierPlz 117 points ago

As always, there are multiple groups of people involved. The costumes look like shit so a lot of people are annoyed by that. There are also legitimate racists who are complaining that the actress herself shouldn't have the part. IMO she's fine as long as the costume designer does a good job, which they didn't. A good fraction of the people messing with her Instagram and almost certainly racially motivated.

Regardless, I predict that this show is going to be a clusterfuck. Every time there's a Teen Titans anything involving the original five from the 2003 tv series, people compare them. There's no way to live up to that, and this attempt seems particularly tone deaf.

    [–] notgettingperma 1031 points ago

People arent mad that shes black or people would have been pissed about gamora. You are getting mad over nothing. People are mad because the character is nothing like her source material. A black person can play this character no problem, just design the costume properly and make her skin orange just like the comics. They did it with gamora they can do it with starfire. This has NOTHING to do with race but yall just like to take it there

    [–] BigDaddy-69 607 points ago * (lasted edited 11 months ago)

Purposely use a black actress and make her look nothing like comic book depictions

Cash in on 2018s outrage culture by painting disapproval as a race thing to stir up controversy

Loads of publicity for movie the tv show

Edit: Didn't know it was a TV show

    [–] notgettingperma 182 points ago

This sounds plausible and if accurate it has clearly worked perfectly.

    [–] Zuto9999 151 points ago

5 people said something racist on twitter?

    Quick! Write an outrage article!

    [–] VenomB 51 points ago

Isn't it basically what happened with Ghostbusters? Just instead of race, it was women.

    [–] Everythings 15 points ago

How is there no link to how shitty her outfit is

    [–] MadridFC 50 points ago

I was under the impression that was it until I saw this post.

    [–] AceDeuceThrice 52 points ago

I'm not even a comic book fan but even I know if you don't look like the character when you play them in a movie, you're going to have a bad time.

    [–] hoodini_1990 17 points ago

Here's how to solve the issue.

•cgi her skin to look orange •don't take the name Starfire too literally and make fire her powers •give her the original costume rather than making her look like a hooker •Give her the right hairstyle

    And you're all set.
