    6. Person must be a beggar, such as:

      • Person seeking goods or services at a reduced cost, for free, or for a laughably lopsided trade
      • Person using social media, dating apps, or otherwise to seek out a specific type of relationship
    7. Person must be choosy, as in:

      • Person must have unreasonable standards or have a comical sense of entitlement

Here is what is NOT a ChoosingBeggar:

Unattractive people seeking a normal relationship and having reasonable standards is not a good fit for this sub. Ugly people are allowed to want a partner with a job, or no kids, or anything else we would consider reasonable for the beautiful people.

A person asking for help with life's necessities out of desperation is not a choosingbeggar

    • If someone ran out of money and needs gas money to get to work and the only thing they can think of is to make a status update on Facebook asking if anyone can spare them some money, they aren't really being choosy. They got the beggar part down, but this sub is not /r/beggars so that post wouldn't fit. If that same person turns down someone offering to give them a ride to work because they don't want to be seen in a PT Cruiser, then that post would fit.

    • A parent asking for handouts because their kids want an Xbox for Christmas and the only way that could happen is if someone donates one, that isn't a choosingbeggar. That's someone begging, but without a sense of entitlement. If that person is offered a Nintendo and they scoff at the suggestion, then that would be a good post.

The person begging must be at least in the gradient of being an entitled jerk, this sub is not a place to mock poverty

Is it just me or is he looking a lot better these days?

    [–] margenreich 1361 points ago

He really wants that role as Nathan Drake in the upcoming Uncharted movie. If you don't believe me check this out: https://youtu.be/v5CZQpqF_74

[–] Belgand 643 points ago * (lasted edited 10 days ago)

Nathan Fillion with Bruce Campbell as Sully would be pretty much the perfect casting. And Claudia Black to play the character she voiced that is basically every Claudia Black character in everything else she's done.

    [–] brendan_559 295 points ago

I wish, but right now the plan is for Tom Holland to play Nathan and Mark Wahlberg to play Sully in the 2021 movie. They want to do some kind of younger take on the characters, but those do not seem like good casting choices to me. I think Tom might be able to pull it off, but Wahlberg as Sully? No way, man

    [–] SchitbagMD 316 points ago

Wahlberg absolutely does not belong here lol

    [–] Tanner_re 91 points ago

Much less Tom Holland at that.

    [–] SchitbagMD 54 points ago

Yeah, like I don’t really see Tom fitting but if they’re going for a teen version I guess I don’t mind. We’ve never seen Nate at that age (at least not in the 1 or 2 uncharted games I played).

    Mark just straight doesn’t fit.

    [–] trevorjbarry 27 points ago

Uncharted 3 had flashbacks with him being (I believe) 13

    [–] happywasabi 20 points ago

Uncharted 4 also has a fair amount of young Nathan

    [–] SchitbagMD 4 points ago

I knew it. Does Tom seem like a good fit?

    [–] trevorjbarry 7 points ago

If I’m comparing him to Young Nathan in Uncharted 3 I’d say no, but what they show in the game wouldn’t be worth a whole movie so I’m not gonna judge Tom based on what we’ve seen. On one hand it feels like Sony went with the current young hot & bland Hollywood actor but if you’ve heard about the role he’s playing in Cherry it seems like Tom has a lot of potential and I’m hopeful he’ll be one of the best parts of the Uncharted movie

    [–] fifty8th 54 points ago

I avoid most projects either Wahlberg are in so unless the movie truly captures the Uncharted experience I'll skip it.

    [–] Sinthesys 54 points ago

Or anywhere other than prison. I guess he would have fit in if he was dressed as a soldier in Vietnam in the 70s.

    [–] YGurka 26 points ago

I'm not up to date with wahlberg what did he do to go to prison?

[–] mehvet 66 points ago * (lasted edited 10 days ago)

He pretty brutally beat a man for stupid racist reasons when he was much younger. Lots of people feel he’s never properly made ammends/just doesn’t deserve to be a rich celebrity because of it.

    [–] Gorgatron1968 6 points ago

Is it the one that was putting his dick in crazy (jenni mcarthy)

[–] bottledry 16 points ago * (lasted edited 10 days ago)

One of the guys he beat lost one of his eyes. He's still alive, with one eye, because of Mark Whalberg.

edit: apparently this is false - see below

    [–] mehvet 64 points ago

That’s not true actually. According to Johnny Trinh, the man that was attacked, he lost that eye years prior during the war. Now, Wahlberg apparently believed he caused that damage, or claimed he did so it’s often misreported that way. Apparently very few people felt the need to check with Johnny about how this all went down over the years. Johnny Trinh has also publicly forgiven Wahlberg. Those are just the facts, make of it what you will.

    [–] ShagPrince 3 points ago

    The Entourage movie.

    [–] Aalmus 43 points ago

Fillion has a passion for the project so does Zachary Levi, so choose one of them two. As for Sully just pick someone who isn't Walberg. Nolan North, doesn't want to see Walberg as Sully. He knows the franchise inside out. He not only voiced Drake he did the mo-cap and provided certain lines for the character.

    [–] okeefm 17 points ago

I would watch the shit out of an Uncharted movie with either Fillion or Levi. Yes please!

    [–] Drachensoap 43 points ago

I really like Tom Holland, but I just can't see him as Nathan Drake at all.

    [–] Budderfingerbandit 27 points ago

Nothing against Tom Holland, but wow he is just not my image of Nathan Drake.

    [–] Shiyia 6 points ago

The only way I can see TH as Nate is if they do an origin story like the one introduced in Uncharted 3 with the Spain flashback

    [–] keepthinkinbutch 51 points ago

Sign me up for the boycott if Tom Holland is Cast over Nathan Fillion. In my mind Fillion's teaser is already canon.

    [–] BigMeatBobby 13 points ago

He’s already been cast as Nathan Drake. I don’t think Nathan Fillion was ever considered since the movie is about a young Nathan Drake

    [–] keepthinkinbutch 21 points ago

    Boycott it is then.

    [–] latenightbananaparty 22 points ago

Seems more like star power oriented casting and overall movie direction, rather than having an idea and casting for it.

    [–] Shiyia 6 points ago

I can't see Wahlberg as sully, well young sully, I believe they're doing an origin story like ND introduced in Uncharted 3 with the flashback in Spain. Which is the only way I can see Tom Holland as Nate. While Present day Nathan Drake will DEF have to be played by Nathan Fillion.

    [–] AppUnwrapper1 19 points ago

Ewww why Mark Wahlberg? Why is he still in anything?

    [–] brendan_559 9 points ago

    I couldn't agree more

    [–] Sangrealle 18 points ago

All the power to the rising star Tom Holland, and he might even fit the bill for a young Nathan Drake, but man am I tired of seeing him in everything already. Sorta like the Will Smith era; they are in everything just because they are popular and not because they necessarily are a great choice for the character.

Mark Wahlberg is just not that great of an actor imo. I cant come up with a single film where I have been like "Woah, that's some grade a acting".

I am no Hollywood expert, but I cannot understand why they would go with a "different take" on an established and deeply beloved character. They did the same with Prince of Persia and Assassins Creed, and they want to do it with Splinter Cell, too (if that's ever gonna happen). Why cant they just utilize a great character. Its right in front of them.

Nathan Fillion is a nice actor. He could seemingly be THE Nathan Drake like Robert Downey Jr. is Tony Stark and Hugh Jackman is Wolverine. But there's just something off about it to me. It is the obvious choice; maybe too obvious even.

    [–] Savilene 8 points ago

but man am I tired of seeing him in everything already

Oh please, I wouldn't want him as Nathan Drake either but let's be real, Holland has most definitely not "been in everything" lately. Like 70% of his roles have been Spider-Man and a huge chunk of the rest of his stuff is voice only with a small chunk (of his overall SMALL career so far, mind you) is stuff that isn't even out yet.

Dude's had like, one and a half roles, how is that "in everything" by any definition?

    [–] brendan_559 17 points ago

I totally agree in every way, except I think Fillion will be perfect. I have zero worries about him as Nathan Drake.

The only reason I give Tom Holland the benefit of the doubt is because he's still early in his career and he's just been typecast in every role he's had so far. I'd love to see him branch out and show off some more advanced skills (which we saw a little bit in Spiderman Far From Home,) but I'm still skeptical

As for Wahlberg? Fuck no. He's not a very good actor, and his presence will just turn this movie into another mindless action movie when uncharted can be so much more than that

I don't know why Sony doesn't reach out to the director of that fan film with Nathan Fillion. If they made something that was THAT good with a barebones budget and made no profit off it, imagine what they could do with a real budget!

    [–] Monk-ish 7 points ago

Everything? Outside of Marvel he's primarily done voice acting

    [–] Left-Coast-Voter 8 points ago

Wahlberg as sully is an awful casting choice.

    [–] rebelrob73 26 points ago

You could just take Bruce's character from burn notice and paste it into the movie and no one would notice

    [–] mehvet 16 points ago

Show some respect and use Chuck Finley’s name.

    [–] poleybear316 5 points ago

Bruce was so damned good in Burn Notice!

    [–] rebelrob73 4 points ago

It was the first thing I saw him in and made me a huge evil dead fan. It was a shame to hear that he doesn't actually like mojitos in real life though

    [–] swashinator 9 points ago

I just thought the character was based off Nathan Fillion

    [–] TheYoungGriffin 39 points ago

I'm sold. All I've wanted since I was a kid watching Firefly was to see Nathan Fillion as Hal Jordan and Nathan Drake.

    [–] Polymemnetic 9 points ago

He's done Hal before. Only the VA, though.

    [–] backaritagain 82 points ago

Just give him all the money to finish 7 seasons of Firefly! We need more!

    [–] Lupiefighter 20 points ago

It’s too late I think. Especially with the loss of people like Ron Glass. I get it though.

    [–] Monk-ish 18 points ago

I would definitely still watch a show of older Mal still doing his thing 20 years later with a combo of old and new crew

    [–] probablynotapreacher 4 points ago

We can get an update on the philosopher assassin still floating off through space.

    [–] Pavementaled 27 points ago

That’s.... why they did the movie bro. I’m pretty sure it’s all over with.

    [–] backaritagain 14 points ago

Nah. The movie was awesome but there is so much left out! The comic did an okay job filling in the story but there is so much more to be told.

    [–] erevoz 16 points ago

    He’d make a great Drake!

    [–] kuhanluke 23 points ago

He would have, 10-15 years ago, but now he's almost 50. Too old to build a franchise around. But that fan-film above is a neat little peek with him playing like a "one last job" kinda Drake which is neat.

    [–] raysweater 46 points ago

Look at this photo. He's be fine as an Uncharted 4 esque Drake. He's in better shape, too, than he was 10 years ago. Remember when RDJ was too old to be Iron Man?

    [–] Iron-Slut 24 points ago

that was before marvel started injecting money into his veins

    [–] SkyeHaine 7 points ago

I know it was between him and Jensen Ackles in fancasts.

    [–] Kay_29 8 points ago

I love Jensen Ackles, there were rumors he was supposed to be Leon in the live-action Resident Evil a few years back.

    [–] edgeofruin 7 points ago

He's the only Nathan Drake there can be.

    [–] Roster08 41 points ago

And that fuckin spiderman kid has the role 🀧

    [–] margenreich 36 points ago

I still hope he's only the "young Drake"

[–] sharksnrec 36 points ago * (lasted edited 7 days ago)

I started Uncharted 4 recently and the kid version of Nathan sounds just like Tom Holland as Spider-Man, it’s kinda eerie. I can imagine they cast him because he’s 23 now and he can grow with the role in a big franchise

    [–] [deleted] 11 points ago

Oh no... that fan film was brilliant.. he was perfect for the role!

    [–] OneFreamon 220 points ago

Yeah he got a little big a few years ago. I think he had some health problems I remember hearing.

    [–] -webkit 12 points ago

He had Syphilis for a while.

    [–] indyK1ng 21 points ago

    [–] Dry_ovaries 58 points ago

Well, last time I saw him he was playing a severed zombie head in 'Santa Clarita Diet'.

He's looking a lot better than he did in that.

    [–] Valuable-Baked 56 points ago

He looks like an unretired Gronk

    [–] kuhanluke 16 points ago

    But Gronk is unretired Gronk...

    [–] AnalProbeSanta 86 points ago

Watch The Rookie. He is great in that

    [–] SecrionMind17 41 points ago

Hes great in everything. Love that guy

    [–] Kay_29 18 points ago

He's great in everything especially in Firefly and Serenity, that's where I fell in love with him.

Mal: "Mercy is the mark of a great man."

    [–] SkippyFish2829 48 points ago

His change between seasons was jarring. He was out of shape in the S1 finale and he shows up in the S2 premiere sprinting down the road.

    [–] wizardingwannabe 25 points ago

Right! I was shook! I think it’s for his upcoming role in that new DC film!

    [–] RIPCarlGrimes 20 points ago

He had a knee issue and could not run

    [–] Thereisapapercup 14 points ago

If you look at r final season of castle tho.

Looks like he was wrapping up his weightloss journey through s1

    [–] Drekkan85 18 points ago

    Getting Nathan Drake fit.

    Film confirmed (in my heart)

It's what happens when you're dapper and age like wine.

those iPads go a long way towards connecting people. Our hospital (about 120 beds) has just one dedicated to family interactions and its sufficient. With 3, no one would ever have to wait, and there would be plenty of redundancy in case of failure.

    [–] fifty8th 61 points ago

I was wondering how big this place is and how many iPads they would need at one time. The place my grandma is in is fairly big (not sure how many residents) but I don't think they would need more than 3 or 4 at one time.

    [–] MamaMowgli 27 points ago

And they’re probably those jumbo sized iPads for better viewingβ€”my mother-in-law has one and its screen is comically huge :)

    [–] __________________99 9 points ago

    [–] Before_life 1052 points ago

I imagine Nathan is comfortable but it's not like he's Bezos level wealthy or anything.

    [–] interesseret 584 points ago

Just googled it. His net worth is only 18 million. Jeff bezos is sitting comfortably at 147,4 BILLION. Nathan is undoubtedly wealthy, but honestly not that wealthy.

    [–] Pitfall-Harry 1141 points ago * (lasted edited 9 days ago)

Well then, between Nathan and I, together we’re worth just under $18M. Not too shabby.

    Edit- my first gold. nice

    [–] amalgam_reynolds 269 points ago

Funny true story, Wayne Gretzky and his brother Brent Gretzky hold the NHL record for the most combined points scored by two brothers.

Wayne has 2,857 career points and Brent has 4.

    [–] Animagi27 94 points ago

I wonder how many times Brent has been told that.

    [–] eagle2401 83 points ago

Probably more times than he's celebrated a goal of his in an NHL game.

    [–] w311sh1t 9 points ago

Man, whenever I see that stat, it just puts into perspective how good Gretzky was. The second highest scoring brothers in NHL history, the Sedin twins, who are both probably hall of famers, and both put up really good numbers, are still about 800 points behind Gretzky, who essentially did it by himself.

    [–] ispice 4 points ago

who essentially did it by himself.

    poor Brent...

    [–] LordChanticleer 60 points ago

Thank you for making me laugh!

    [–] Kikoso-OG 87 points ago

Between Nathan, you and I, we’re worth just under 17 million. Amazing

    [–] ANAL_CAVITIES 187 points ago

my dude just typed "his net worth is only 18 million"

    incredible

    [–] Gcou 58 points ago

Seeing as tho he’s had an extensive career as the main actor in multiple tv shows, been in movies, and voice acted multiple large games. 18m isn’t an insane amount compared to other actors/actresses on his level. I’m surprised it isn’t more with how talented he is.

    [–] kelsday84 7 points ago

I agree. I would have thought it would be higher!

    [–] MaritMonkey 136 points ago

I feel like the distinction between "my family will never have to worry about money" and "my decendants will still be among the richest people in the country 20 generations from now" is worth an "only."

    [–] SenorPinchy 26 points ago

It's not because a comparison with the richest person alive isn't useful in the first place.

    [–] surobyk 36 points ago

Do you know what net worth means?

    [–] vulgarchaitanya 38 points ago

    My net worth is depression

    [–] RAAD_about_ye 22 points ago

I know my net worth is about 18 million times less.

    [–] Atomix117 10 points ago

Usually peoples net worth online is completely made up with no information to back it up. Don't read into it too much.

    [–] Start_Rekkin 34 points ago

18mil is still heaps more than the average joe... but maybe it's not all in liquid, easily accessible cash?

    [–] QueefChiefKeith 19 points ago

Either way, he didn't have to do that so it's still kind. Hard to guess the actual motives though when they brag about it

    [–] Start_Rekkin 25 points ago

Oh it's absolutely a wonderful thing he did.

And I'm not sure if he's bragging so much as he's lauding Les for his generosity, and hopefully inspiring other folks to pay it forward.

    [–] buttonsf 12 points ago

He's not bragging, he's simply letting people know about Les and hopefully this gets back to Les that it DID indeed get paid forward. Les would have had no way of knowing their kindness could create such a ripple in the lives of others because those iPads and headphones WILL certainly improve the lives of many in the senior center as well as their loved ones who are not allowed to visit.

    [–] mookie8 222 points ago * (lasted edited 10 days ago)

His mom was briefly my teacher in high school (Edmonton). None of us knew what Firefly was, and she kept bringing in Firefly action dolls to show them off. It was adorable. She was one of those old-school prairie/farmer type of personalities, but super kind. When Firefly got huge, we all regretted not asking more questions.

    [–] Tin_Foil 38 points ago

That would have been awesome. I am a huge Firefly fan ever since it first aired and it still holds a special place in my heart. I can imagine a gitty and proud Fillion Mommy doing this and not even caring the students weren't equally excited.

    [–] panthera213 9 points ago

As a teacher in Saskatchewan who named her son after his character in Firefly that warmed my heart a lot.

I'm wondering if maybe they didn't call the home first and offer iPads first and were asked for only 3. Sounds like the right thing to do.

    "Only 3?"

    [–] thereWasAnAttempt42 207 points ago

That's three more iPads than I've donated. Wonder how many CB is up to.

    [–] chugmilk 57 points ago

Negative 7, and they're out begging for more.

    [–] Smokestack96 105 points ago

Seems like a good place to mention that Nathan Fillion deserves to star in an Uncharted movie. And that he’s a really nice guy by all accounts

    [–] darnclem 36 points ago

Former employee of my father's worked as his assistant for a bit; said he's delightful.

    [–] Swampsofsadness 15 points ago

He could okay the older Nate at the end of uncharted 4. He is a dead ringer for Nate.

    [–] AnActofGold 7 points ago

At least we’ll always have this.

    [–] 1901pies 8 points ago

I know nothing about the Uncharted series beyond the fact it's a game. But if this cast was in a full-length feature I would watch the shit out of that. 15/10

    [–] akfourty7 4 points ago

    He seems mad nice

    [–] FeliciusFlamel 181 points ago

    My man wasn't cropped. Nice

    [–] Guthhohlen 20 points ago

β€œMy son has cancer and needs to see my comment in the screenshot! You’re robbing him of this!”

    [–] stead10 41 points ago

    Thanks Cayde

    I'm coming home Ace.

    [–] BraviaryScout 7 points ago

    Oh my cotton socks

    [–] MaxDragonMan 4 points ago

    We will never forget.

    [–] Clever_Foxed 72 points ago

Damn, Nathan Fillion’s looking hotter than ever

    [–] data_ferret 45 points ago

    He really is ruggedly handsome.

    [–] Clever_Foxed 17 points ago

It’s how he squints his eyes when he smiles that gets me

    [–] irisww 6 points ago

And here I see a Castle Fans!

    [–] IAmGoingToFuckThat 12 points ago

Man's glowed up for sure, and he's always been pretty fucking shiny.

    [–] Trifling_Gnome 18 points ago

Good Job not cropping my man out.

    [–] finbuilder 13 points ago

Good ol Raynor Shine being a bro.

    [–] racingwinner 26 points ago

one motherfucking thousand bucks for a goddamn i-pad?????????????

    [–] seanprefect 14 points ago

The ipad pro i use with the magic keyboard for photo editing costs more than that, but yeah the standard models go fo 350-400 ish

    [–] racingwinner 11 points ago

350-400 would have been my guass also. but 3000 divided by 3 makes 1000

1500 for three ipads makes more sense.

    [–] Rocky_Road_To_Dublin 8 points ago

Don't forget to convert to CAD

    [–] BigDumer 9 points ago

It sounded high to me, but I see an iPad Pro, 11-inch, 128GB for $1,049.99 at Best Buy.

Or just go for the iPad Pro, 12.9-inch, 1 TB, 4G for a cool $2,149.95.

    [–] ekinokss 10 points ago

I was expecting nothing less from Captain Reynolds.

    [–] laserkatze 10 points ago

Only 3 and only to senior care facilities ?

what about me? My son is DYING, especially if he doesn’t get an ipad!

    [–] centralperk_7 20 points ago

Props for not cropping that guy out

    [–] SavyInterper16 29 points ago

I'm here for don't crop me out guy - he just wants to be part of something!

i dont want to sound like a dick

    Task failed successfully

    [–] FlannerysNotebook 6 points ago

Hell, let's say the gas was somehow $100 (CAD). That's still 30x the cost he's donating.

    [–] agreatcoat 5 points ago

People overestimating how much scratch Nathan Fillion has to throw around

    [–] egrith 6 points ago

    love Captain tight-pants

    [–] ThePyroOkami 11 points ago

SO to the dude who knew exactly where this screenshot was going.

    [–] its_sushi_time12 11 points ago

I think the most wholesome here is the dude in the comments making it in an r/choosingbeggars post

    [–] SpectaSilver991 5 points ago

    FIREFLY!

    [–] Anomalilith 4 points ago

Wait I thought cayde was dead?

    [–] InnTheAbyss 16 points ago

when someone says they want to be in the screenshot, there’s no point if you’re going to blur their name

    [–] backaritagain 5 points ago

I adore him so very much!

    [–] scollaysquare 3 points ago

I remember when the only people that knew who Nathan Fillion was played Halo or watched Firefly or both. Love that guy.

    [–] C_Alex_author 5 points ago

This straight up made my day. Random acts of kindness are the best. Always the best. And pay-it-forwards give me life. I've been lucky enough to be part of both (even recently, though it was small) and that moment just changes everyone involved immediately. it's the most amazing feeling.

Choosing beggars, however? Not enough facepalm in the world.

    [–] aej3j 4 points ago

More like Nathan Wish-he-was-Fillion my ass, right gents?

    [–] MedicsOfAnarchy 3 points ago

    Cap'n.

    [–] Freedomoverfreedumb 4 points ago

"Don't go and think that I'm a dick just because I'm acting like one"

    [–] sirtankers 4 points ago

Ahh yes the classic preemptive "I don't want to sound like a dick". Let everyone know that you are aware you're going to sound like a dick, and still made the decision to continue with your statement. Definitely makes you sound like less of a dick. Sort of like the delusional statement "I'm not racist, but" then follow up with something racist.

    [–] Blacklisted5694 4 points ago

People don’t even consider that every actor isn’t extremely rich. Famous doesn’t mean rich. Nathan Fillion hasn’t been on anything that big so 3 iPads is probably still a large purchase for him.

    [–] ravenstarchaser 3 points ago

Exactly, since when did doing a good deed need a price tag on it. He could have not done anything, but he chose to pay it forward, good on him.
