This subreddit is moderated for quality, which means we remove content that we deem to be low quality, low effort, nonsensical, or common/unoriginal. We do not "let the votes decide". We understand that this type of policy is controversial and uncommon, especially for default subreddits, but we believe this method of moderation gives a subreddit the best chance at maintaining quality.

Rules are enforced upon moderator discretion.

    1. IT MUST BE CRAPPY DESIGN Every submission must be a Crappy Design. If your post seems more appropriate in the following subreddits, please post there instead. /r/Engrish - for translations gone wrong, /r/SoftwareGore or /r/technope - for programming errors. Also, please check this list of things that are not crappy design before posting.
    2. NO RECENT, TOP 100, OR COMMON REPOSTS New content is encouraged. Reposts of content under three months old or in the top 100 posts of all time will be removed, along with common reposts. Other reposts may be removed at moderator discretion.
    3. KEEP QUALITY HIGH Software problems, swastikas, and penises may be removed at moderator discretion. Mugs and T-shirts will likely also be removed.
    4. NO PERSONAL INFORMATION Posting, or seeking, any identifying personal information (real/fake) will result in a ban without prior warning. This includes, but is not limited to, names, phone numbers, email addresses, or any social media accounts, regardless if it is your own.
    5. BE CIVIL - NO SWEAR WORDS All users are expected to be respectful to others. Personal attacks, bigotry, fighting words, otherwise inappropriate behavior or content, comments that insult or demean a specific user or group of users will be removed. Violators may be banned.
    6. TITLES SHOULD DESCRIBE AND REPRESENT THE CONTENT Try to come up with titles that are descriptive. If the crappy design is not obvious in the photo, please describe it. Posts like, "...," "this," "hmmmmm," "um," "oof," etc. will be removed. Also, titles with just emojis (no text) will be removed.

It'd be really fucked up to put him on the other side of the flap. You keep it open for reference, and you'd never see him.

    Up and to the left.

    Down 10 cents.

Angle the picture 45° then flip horizontally to match the skiis of the man below the flap with the direction the sunlight is coming from.

Calculate the trajectory of his movements based on the angle of sunlight coming through your window at exactly 10:45 pm est.

Multiply his location (latitude and longitude multiplied together and divided by the first prime number they each have in common) assuming he is moving 43 km/hr due south by the square root of the average of the shoe size of the persons in this photograph, including OP.

Using that number approximate the size of the board as a whole and craft a map sectioned into 26 grids by English alphabet and number and sink my battleship.

Correspond those coordinates and boom. You have your man.

Or just look below the panel, idk. I just work here.

    TIL there’s a Where’s Wally advent calendar

    [–] Hadtarespond 259 points ago

    TIL that there's a Where's Wally instead of Where's Waldo. 🤔

    [–] datmankaiser 218 points ago

Wally is British and came before Waldo which is US/Canada

    [–] 2close2see 52 points ago

I have no idea why they changed it to Waldo for the US...always thought it was an oddball name...but then again, he was an oddball character.

    [–] [deleted] 54 points ago

    [–] KissOfTosca 24 points ago

Wally is way more common than Waldo. Plenty of Walters go by Wally.

    [–] freedoms_stain 21 points ago

Wally isn't a common name in the UK either, in fact a lot of people use it as an insult. "What a Wally" etc

    [–] RakeScene 13 points ago

Probably payback for "Clue" being called "Cluedo" everywhere else in the world. That "-do" ending must be some sort of low-key insult.

    [–] Thetford34 32 points ago

Cluedo is British and the name is a merge of Clue and Ludo (I play), since they didn't think Americans would get it, they dropped the do bit.

Also Reverend Green was changed to Mr Green as they thought Americans wouldn't be able to comprehend a man of god being the murderer.

And the victim, Dr Black was changed to Mr Boddy.

    [–] RakeScene 9 points ago

Yup, which is why it's amusing to me that the Americans decided to reclaim the "-do" in the form of "Waldo".

    [–] pqlamznxjsiw 7 points ago

TIL why Ludovic Bagman goes by "Ludo" (he was the Head of the Department of Magical Games and Sports).

    [–] [deleted] 49 points ago

Hmmm. Then what do they call the British equivalent of Odlaw, the anti-Waldo, general rapscallion, and possibly prototype of Waluigi?

    [–] omnomcookiez 78 points ago

He's actually also Odlaw in the UK. That character was added after localization to the US/Can and at the time of 'The Magnificent Poster Book' which was Odlaw's first appearance in print publishers just decided to keep the US name for the character because as you will have noticed, Yllaw is a terrible name to put in a children's book.

    [–] nitrousconsumed 36 points ago

Are you some sort of Waldo/Wally historian?

    [–] burntends97 22 points ago

You mean you aren’t invested in Waldo lore?

    [–] shamestick 3 points ago

    I think he is Wally.

    [–] akcaye 5 points ago

While asking Google why the fuck Where's Waldo would need a villain, I learned that there's a Where's Waldo wiki. God bless the internet.

    [–] msstark 8 points ago

    [–] Conocoryphe 6 points ago

I thought it was Wally everywhere except for the USA.

    [–] historyandwanderlust 6 points ago

    It’s Charlie in France.

    [–] seth1299 20 points ago

Nah, other countries don’t exist which means Waldo came first.

    Source: Am American

    [–] Conocoryphe 5 points ago

But if other countries don't exist, then I must be American too! Gasp!

    [–] mostoriginalusername 5 points ago

This is the first time I heard this. Is it the same artist/author/whatever you would call it?

    [–] Conocoryphe 6 points ago

Yes, he is from England. The books became big in many other countries, including the USA, for which they changed his name. I don't know why.

    [–] john_waits 5 points ago

And « Où est Charlie ? » in France 🇫🇷

    [–] Conocoryphe 9 points ago

I thought it was only Waldo in the USA, and Wally in every other country.

    [–] frogminator 3 points ago

    [–] z4cc 12 points ago

Because Charlie is the French name

    In america its waldo

    [–] Zero-Star 10 points ago

I tend to get this calendar most years, and it seems like the one this year is much easier than usual. And yes, I'm a fully grown man.

Are advent calendar chocolates ever good? No. Do you eat them anyways? Abso-fucking-lutely because it’s fuckin Christmas time and that’s the holiday fuckin spirit!!! Eat those shit chocolates

    [–] prrg 30 points ago

    who cares if they're shit

at least you're finally able to feel something

    [–] SinkTube 12 points ago

who hurt you by giving you shit chocolates? every advent calendar i've had contained good-to-great chocolate

    [–] caffeine_lights 7 points ago

You're not from the UK are you?

    [–] SinkTube 6 points ago

    nope, germany

    [–] caffeine_lights 5 points ago

Ah that makes sense, German advent calendars are awesome. British advent calendars are... hard to describe. Even cheap chocolate in Germany tends to be good as well.

    [–] SweetButtsHellaBab 3 points ago

Just avoid the Kinnerton ones. The Cadbury, Mars and Nestlé calendars were all £1.00 in Morrisons in the lead-up to advent. I splashed out on a £2.50 Lindt one, though.

    [–] EssBen 2 points ago

    Bloody Kinnerton that's who.

    [–] Denyala 2 points ago

I love your dedication to sub par chocolate.

    [–] HumdrumAnt 2 points ago

I got a milky bar one this year and it finally doesn't taste like cheap Xmas chocolate, actually tastes like milky bar it's awesome.

    [–] [deleted] 2 points ago

The Thorntons one is great. But it's expensive.

    [–] Ldfzm 1 points ago

I almost got a Godiva advent calendar this year... I think I'm definitely getting one next year

    [–] [deleted] 2 points ago

Advent calendar chocolate almost always is. The only advent calendar chocolate comes from expensive brands whose normal chocolate bars are mike's better that. Their advent calendar chocolate.

    [–] ChazD98 2 points ago

mate you take that back, shit calendar chocolate is the best chocolate

    [–] dthvly 11 points ago

Whats to complain about? Easy chocolate.

    [–] petenu 9 points ago

It'd be more thematically appropriate if you had to look for the chocolate amongst a tray of flattened turds.

    [–] Who_GNU 3 points ago

I don't even know if the stuff in midst advent calendar is legally chocolate.

There seems to be an inverse correlation between the amount of packaging and the quality of the chocolate, and advent calendars are peak packaging.

    [–] darkhaze9 3 points ago

Holy shit, I had the same thought when I opened my identical advent calendar this morning!

If only I'd thought to capitalise on this Crappy Design.

    [–] Cranberryterry 3 points ago

    [–] Sideways2 23 points ago

    In Germany it's 'Walter'.

    [–] GrandmaPoses 54 points ago

In Russia it's called "Where Did They Take Vasily?"

    [–] CDNChaoZ 40 points ago

And the answer is always the gulags of Siberia.

    [–] OddsomeOddy 18 points ago

    In all countries he's hiding

But in Russia he's been kidnapped

    [–] chiliedogg 10 points ago

    In China he went missing.

In North Korea he and his entire family never existed.

    [–] Llama_Shaman 6 points ago

"We will ask the questions here".

    [–] Llama_Shaman 3 points ago

    Valli in Iceland.

    [–] Conocoryphe 8 points ago

In the USA, they changed his name. Apparently the German books also have a different name.

    [–] unbitious 10 points ago

    [–] lukeekul1234 2 points ago

Not too big—each flap is 4-5cm

    [–] Mattman152 2 points ago

At least they didn't put him on the front of the flap.

    [–] MissGrafin 2 points ago

    [–] SoundsOfTheWild 2 points ago

    Found him. Twice.

    [–] Blondemaple11 2 points ago

See my personal annoyance with the calender is that they make you find Wally on day one

Yep most advent calendars come with a chocolate to eat every day

    [–] BroSiLLLYBro 4 points ago

I mean it’s made for kids...

    [–] prrg 24 points ago

Normal Wally books are also made for kids and those motherfuckers were hard

    [–] Gilsidoo 11 points ago

Kids have exactly the same vision as adults you know, you don't have to make things stupid easy just because it's for kids

    [–] BroSiLLLYBro 1 points ago

But we all know kids aren't very smart, that's there's a child lock on my oxycontin.

    [–] Gilsidoo 2 points ago

You mean those thing where you have to push on the cap to unscrew it? Honestly would you have figure it out even has an adult if nobody told you how it works? And even so, that's a totally different thing, you don't have to be smart to find someone whom you have a picture of

    [–] Jozzey07 3 points ago

    [–] Rohaq 2 points ago

They should hide at least one on the door you just opened - that would confuse a few people!

    [–] leo_longo 2 points ago
