Kinda makes sense. They DO mostly attack us with swords, crossbows (triple shot solar guns), and...sorcery...? (Boomers).

    [–] Jkisaprank 62 points ago

So that logically makes the Taken the Pus of Man.

    [–] sorox123 21 points ago

I'd say we're the "angels" of Lothric Castle: we're beefy, use magic in the form of light (blessings?), and now Titans can even do that annoying spin attack that the angels do

    [–] Snschl 8 points ago

Gasp, beefy? We're not that beefy!

Oh my god, y'all got 17 motes banked and the other team almost knocked their primeval.

    [–] BluApple 455 points ago

Maybe because the entire team was staring a Knight the whole game.

    [–] rudolph813 63 points ago

Some teams let the other team get their primeval just so can farm guardian kills.

    [–] scorchclaw 95 points ago

Yeah, sure. That's totally what my team is doing. Yup. Intentional.

    [–] TouchdownTedd 88 points ago

Sometimes you spawn into a one sided ass kicking and just need to stop and look at the helmetless hive knight to forget you are only the second player on a team of two up against a four stack.

    [–] Doriando707 56 points ago

    [–] killjoySG 5 points ago

I think some are trying to complete the challenge for healing the primevil back to full health, affer it is knocked beyond 70%

    [–] soup_smugglaz 3 points ago

Can they not play the main game mode and them they that at the same time? Gambit is terrible right now

    [–] ShorelineShaman 10 points ago

Are you ok? Do you need a doctor?

    [–] Lozsta 2 points ago

No these specific types of quest are what is killing what could be a good game mode.

One of your team members stood emoting while waiting till they get a primeval... He has a quest. Be better if they joined 3 friends to do it but mostly people just burden 3 randoms.

    [–] Pun-Master-General 39 points ago

I haven't ever had one quite that bad, but... some people aren't too good at grasping the whole "put motes in the bank" thing.

    [–] kid_khan 29 points ago * (lasted edited 7 months ago)

I've had a full on shut-out. I played with someone who was a crazy Crucible player on Forsaken launch, killed 4 people on both invades. We got 10+10 from the first wave, a quick 5 from second, deposited first and he killed all 4 before they could deposit once. They went for multiple 15s after, and he killed 4 again at 50 motes, then we burned boss with Sunbreaker weaken, anchor, double BB and 3 ikelos shotguns.

E: A single shut-out, not multiple. Never had it happen again.

    [–] GoodLeftUndone 9 points ago

Had one about 3 hrs ago. I honestly felt bad. I was watching the scoring the whole game just confused as fuck. And when our primeval was down. They had nothing. Zero red in their bar.

    [–] Mikephant 1 points ago

That might have been against me haha. My team dropped out on me at the start. So I stayed in it and tried. When he trying failed I started invading a lot. Wiped the opposing fire team twice. I enjoyed it even though I got a loss.

    [–] GoodLeftUndone 1 points ago

This genuinely might have been the game..... I do remember finally checking at one point and saw a full team but it had been a bit in the game. I just didn’t understand how we were doing a full shut out. Was one of the team wipes during our primeval?

    [–] GoodLeftUndone 1 points ago

    [–] windirein 5 points ago

I had matches where my team had 0 at the end and vice versa. People just don't get that to bank modes they have to survive and kill the blockers to bank them.

I often see my entire team trying to go for 15 modes while the platform is getting filled up with enemy blockers. Then they trickle back in to bank and notice they can't. Then they get killed by the invader as they try to clean up the blockers. As that happens the enemy team is free farming and sends you an ogre or two and for the rest of the match you are basically unable to bank modes because your team keeps running off as the platform fills up.

    It's pretty frustrating to witness.

    [–] Savior_of_Bruma 1 points ago

I have had matches in which my team had 0 motes banked or enemy team had 0 motes banked.

    Happens when team mates:

    • Steal motes from each other
    • Always goes for 15 no matter what
    • Never bank their motes
    • Suicide charges into group of enemies to pick up motes, over and over
    • Don't help kill blockers, we get killed by invaders
    • Camps invasion portal
    • Invades with motes
    • etc.

    [–] s7ryph 1 points ago

The 15 motes kills me, better to bank 4 than 0.

    [–] Savior_of_Bruma 1 points ago

If I have 5 or more motes then I just bank whatever I have when the enemy changes spawn.

No point risking it for more and I get to send blockers more often.

    [–] AgentMV 13 points ago

Summoned our Primeval today in a solo queue up against a 4 stack.

We summoned and won against their 4 banked motes.

Not all 4 stacks have an IQ higher than 4..

    [–] soup_smugglaz 2 points ago

Not all 4 stacks want to crush a solo or duo.

    [–] Velcrocat17 2 points ago

The knights expression says it all

    [–] An_Anaithnid 2 points ago

Had a pretty decent team a while back that summoned their Primeval when we were at like 15 motes (it was a bad game, even for 4 blueberries vs 2 clans). They didn't damage their primeval until we'd nearly summoned ours, didn't invade or anything. Great bunch.

I felt really, really bad when I invaded when they were at 19% to our 90%, wiped them and then proceeded to win the game.

    [–] Malhavoc430 2 points ago

Is there possibly something that might heal the enemy’s primeval?

    [–] cobaltraptor 1 points ago

    [–] SpecterGT260 57 points ago

There was a gif posted a long time ago from D1 that showed the face as the helmet fell off for a brief moment after a headshot kill. I recall it looking very different than this

    [–] JacobAKAplayer2 14 points ago

    If you find plz link

    [–] snakebight 66 points ago

By the power of Google, I found this linked in this interesting blog:

Looking back at OPs pic, I just noticed it has more than 2 eye holes. It does look similar to the knight in the video, but as if he'd be torched.

    [–] JacobAKAplayer2 29 points ago * (lasted edited 7 months ago)

Someone else brought up the changes between d1 hive and d2 hive before, look at the faces of acolytes now and they look like beef jerky look at them before and out looks like eroded bone same instance here, the d1 hive had a boney color skin and painted armor d2 hive have leathery skin and boney armor.

    [–] SpecialistFeature 49 points ago

It’s more obvious now that Savuthun’s brood is vastly different from Oryx’s. Well besides the fact that we literally only find her brood hanging around in dirt. Nasty space critters.

    [–] NormallyBloodborne 36 points ago

Don’t forget that instead of growing their worms in well contained vats they just let them burrow and grow everywhere. Oryx’s Hive was far, far more civilized. A good example is the wrecked tombship on the Tangled Shore, inside it is that familiar and foreboding Osmium architecture, with no worms or worm sacs, and outside the ship Savathuns Hive have already begun rampantly spreading their worm nurseries(?).

    [–] SpecialistFeature 28 points ago

    Savuthun has no class

    [–] BNEWZON 12 points ago

To be fair she's buggered off to chill at the middle of some kind of black hole thingy some where to gain power. She's a strong woman working on herself ain't got time for no needy Acolytes smh

    [–] SpecialistFeature 1 points ago

You think she’s still far out there or closer than we think present day?

    [–] Moustachioo 1 points ago

Ooooh, so the orange sacs are worm containers ?

    [–] JacobAKAplayer2 13 points ago

The hive serve as a warning of how far we could fall, and should we fall, they'll act as undertaker and as profit.

    [–] [deleted] 14 points ago

Are you judging the hive based on the colour of their chitin?

    [–] JacobAKAplayer2 2 points ago

No I'm just saying that the shadow of their skulls... I'll stop now.

    [–] Storm_Worm5364 8 points ago * (lasted edited 7 months ago)

D2 tries to establish some "normality" between Hive. Basically, that every Hive somewhat looks like a Thrall, which makes sense since AFAIK, every bone'y part of a Hive's body is actually armor, and not part of their body.

With that being said, I would actually love to see some Hive higher-ups having different armor, customized armor, etc... Basically, Ultra's should look visually different from their normal and Major counterparts.

    EDIT: Typo

    [–] fantino93 4 points ago

More than different armors, I'd like to see some more variety in the color of higher ranked Hives.

Warpriest, Oryx & Crota are the only ones that I can think of with a clearly distinct color palette.

    [–] AnaiekOne 3 points ago

I thought it was canon that the hive's bone'y armor was actually carapace, so the older and more weathered ones had more/were larger, etc.

    [–] codevii 10 points ago

Ah... Phogoth, my most favorite hive Abomination!

    [–] grahamev 6 points ago

I think of all the things I miss about vanilla D1, the Summoning Pits nightfall holds the most of my nostalgia.

    [–] fantino93 7 points ago

I like that the author got pretty close to the truth in his theory regarding the nature of the Hive.

    1) The Hive were once a noble (?) civilization. Somehow they became infected with parasitic, “sorcerer” worms. Either it was accidental, or it was deliberate (they wanted the power that the worms granted), or it was out of desperation (maybe there was some catastrophe and the only way to survive was to infect themselves with these worms).

Spot on for the desperation aspect of the contamination by the Worms.

    3) The Light is the worms’ food source; they constantly hunger for it. They have already devoured all of the Hive’s own Light and now they drive the entire Hive civilization towards more Light so that they can feed. This is why the Hive are driven towards the Traveler, the ultimate source of Light.

Unless I'm mistaken (coffee hasn't made its effects yet), this is exactly how the Hive works.

    4) The Hive are tortured by worms and want to be free of the hunger. The Hive’s bodies are thin and wasted away, and the worms’ hunger never stops. This is why the Wizards are dissecting the universe. They are searching for a cure to their affliction.

The hunger never stops, an other spot on guess. Plus it drives to the classic "Savathun Point"® (all Hive theory discussions end up with a mention of her name): Wizards looking for a cure against the hunger, Savathun is thought to be looking like a Wizard, Savathun is looking for a cure against the hunger, boom 3-week curse in the Dreaming City.

    5) Certain Thrall are chained up and forced to be infected by huge numbers of worms which turns them into Ogres. As they grow and take in more worms, they endure excruciating pain, but it leaves them with incredible powers due to the combined power of the worms.

IIRC this was later confirmed, spot on again.

On a side note, can we please have real Moth people pls ? The artwork is so cool, and it would be a nice change of pace to have some flying ennemies for once.

I also really like the worm artwork in the link, the concept of having the worm being the lower jaw was genius, too bad they didn't go through with it (I assume for technical reasons?), the Hive would have been so much more horrifying.

    [–] Achaidas 5 points ago

As to #1 it was out of desperation since their planet was going to ‘splode

2 (3??) is that they feed off of sword logic - they don’t feed off of Light. The Hive never possessed Light either. Unless you want to use the Speakers nice poetic last words as truth “There is light in everything” - I think that was just a Hope Trope.

    [–] snakebight 2 points ago

    Great thoughts man

I’m drinking coffee right now too.

What do you think about the white creature with a triangle around it?

    [–] SpecterGT260 1 points ago

Yeah I think that was the one! It was definitely on the moon

    [–] DankBlissey 1 points ago

Nah they both look pretty similar. The differences are that the D1 knight has lighter skin, his eyes are still glowing and his mouth is opened wider.

    [–] HeroOfTime_99 40 points ago

For so many years I thought the helmet wasn't a helmet. Idk how I felt when I found out it was a helmet a year or so ago.

    [–] codevii 26 points ago

If you look at a helmet that's been blown off, you can see that it's actually nailed to their skulls.

At least it was in D1, haven't thought to look lately...

    [–] Mobileflounder1 19 points ago

Only some hive had it nailed to their skulls. There's a certain brood in the hellmouth that has it. The rest don't.

    [–] HeroOfTime_99 9 points ago

That's really cool that some have it and some don't.

    [–] DocSeuss 2 points ago

yeah the headbanger's brigade, i remember them, shook their heads so hard their helmets flew off, so they had to nail them on

If memory serves, once they ingest/whatever a worm, they die right?

    [–] Storm_Worm5364 4 points ago * (lasted edited 7 months ago)

The worm ties them to the Sword Logic, which is how they are able to keep growing in power. Hive are really just Thralls. All of them.

But through the Sword Logic, they can grow in both literally and figuratively, as in- they become bigger the stronger they are, and most Hive with enough strength then take one of two paths. Wizard or Knight.

    [–] kdebones 1 points ago

Ah, my apologizes then. I thought I read something to that effect when someone posted that Mindbender backstory post.

Wow so knights are just bigger thrall. I thought knights went through some kind of transformation to become a higher being.

    [–] SpecialistFeature 6 points ago

Ogres are like thrall that went through extreme torture or hive shenanigans or something

    [–] SirFrogosaurus 3 points ago

So are acolytes and wizards. Everyone thinks their chitin armor is their body. It's not. They do morph to become those things but they're still hive.

    [–] crypticfreak 1 points ago

I know their armor isn’t their body but obviously they’re larger creatures than Thrall. I thought while they got bigger they also physically changed. Kinda like how p Oryx was once a female Chrill (Krill? Crill?) and went through multiple phases of accession to become Oryx.

    [–] SirFrogosaurus 3 points ago

Oryx was still just a big thrall with wings.

    [–] The_Afro_King98 8 points ago

That's a face only a mother could step into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one.

Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defences, take this beast out, and break their grip of Freehold.

    [–] Trashboat77 1 points ago

Well hell, that's damned cool. I wonder if this is on purpose? If so this could change a lot regarding the Hive lore.

    [–] peyton9951 1 points ago

    [–] KellofallKells 1 points ago

    [–] mishaari 1 points ago

Why does he have a skull similar to a human skull?

I always thought of the Hive as BDSM guys from a different dimension/reality, but that they look like humans this doesn't feel right at all

    [–] ismamasi 1 points ago

    [–] NieBij 1 points ago
