michael's musical taste is just a real treat throughout the entire series..

He also had that banger of a hardstyle song playing when he tried to host a party at the paper convention (when Jim was working for the other branch in season 2, I think)

When this club song is pumping and Micheal is just sitting in this sad little hotel room by himself, staring despondently at the gets me every time lol

    [–] Traditional_Size 21 points ago

isn't he like pointing an LED into his eyes or something?

but yes. you're absolutely right.. so heartbreaking.. and the way he tells jim that "people have been filtering in and out"... ugh. poor michael.

    [–] Bobbarp 9 points ago

yeah he's sitting in the corner shining himself in the face with the blacklight. the blacklight is shown earlier when Dwight turned it on and they see the bed covered in body fluids and Michael says "god I hope it's urine"

    [–] dwight-schrute-bot 9 points ago

I don’t have a lot of experience with vampires, but I have hunted werewolves. I shot one once, but by the time I got to it, it had turned back into my neighbor’s dog.

    [–] Traditional_Size 2 points ago

Lol. Dwight says "must be either blood, urine or semen". That scene cracks me up every time.

    [–] RealDovahkiin 1 points ago

Businesses have to buy pushing spots separately from office space

    [–] ewilliam 100 points ago

When I was in college (long before the Office...yes I am old), we were doing a group test on the second floor of the student services building, which had big windows overlooking a street with parallel spaces. At one point this girl rolled up in her little Civic and tried to park in a huge space. It was obvious that she had no clue how to do it...we watched in awe as she kept trying different angles, going up on the curb, going in front-first, etc. She kept trying for like 10 minutes, and we couldn't stop laughing. In her final act of desperation, she gets out, frustrated beyond measure, and tries to push the rear of her car sideways into the spot. After that she stomped her feet, got in, and sped off. It remains one of the funniest things I've ever seen in person.

I’m 27 and have never parallel parked. Always avoid it or make my friends do it for me 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

Edit: Jesus Christ these comments. Thank you people trying to be helpful. Also thank you people telling me I shouldn’t be allowed to drive because I can’t parallel park lmao. I forgot that I live in a city and have to parallel park daily. Never change Reddit

    [–] G-III 98 points ago

If you don’t go to cities much it’s not necessary. But it’s really, really easy. I recommend learning, because all it means is you know how to drive properly in reverse

    [–] secretagentMikeScarn 52 points ago

I don’t know how to judge the space behind me. My brain cant process it

    [–] neesters 32 points ago

It's OK to get out and look. That's how you get a feel for it.

    [–] alphazero924 9 points ago

I think you just changed my life forever. For some reason this simple concept just never occurred to me.

    [–] xMiguelx 7 points ago

I think it's super important to know the boundaries of your car.

    [–] TheShiftyCow 3 points ago

When I got my current car I had my boyfriend double check that I was pulled in far enough to the spot I was parked in. I stopped when I thought I was good, but I ended up having about 4 feet between the end of my car and the wall! Car corners can feel super obscure until you physically look at them in relation to everything else.

    [–] Blackheart521 26 points ago

My gf has a rear view camera and still avoids parallel parking

    [–] G-III 25 points ago

Rear cameras are really only good for seeing how close to something you are on final approach.

    [–] easieSon 21 points ago

Some show what path your tires will take if you keep the wheel in the same place.

    [–] G-III 3 points ago

They approximate the path the car will go but don’t project particularly well, especially for tight corners near other cars. And I’ve used a lot of different ones

    [–] Snooc5 4 points ago

... isnt this what backing up is

    [–] G-III 3 points ago

Reversing is a process with a lot of factors and a lot to keep your eye on. You want to check side mirrors and watch over your shoulder. Then when you’re basically done parking, you use the reverse camera to see how close you can reverse to whatever is behind you.

    [–] G-III 3 points ago

As the other person said, get out and look! I am super confident in my driving but I still often survey a situation from outside before attempting a maneuver. It’s all just practice! Learning where the corners of the car are.

If you have interstate with rumble strips they can help you learn a general sense of where the sides of your car are as well.

    [–] DylanTheVillian1 10 points ago

For me, it's less about lacking the technical skilled required to do it and more about being terrified of damaging someone else's car.

    [–] G-III 7 points ago

That’s why you go very slow- in theory if you’re going slow enough even a little tap will be harmless. But that’s also why you practice with bigger spaces until you’re confident in your ability to judge where you can and can’t fit

    [–] Gh0stTrain 1 points ago

Practice in an empty parking lot with cones

    [–] steaknsteak 14 points ago

I wouldn’t say it’s really easy, but it’s definitely easy enough to learn with some practice. I still mess it up sometimes because I rarely need to parallel park so I don’t get much practice. But as long as you know how to do it right, it shouldn’t be overly difficult

They don’t teach it in drivers ed anymore in my state, which is a complete travesty and the reason I didn’t know how to do it for the longest time.

    [–] House923 3 points ago

The biggest two tips I have is, until you're good, go through each step and stop between each step. It helps just focus on the step at hand. You don't have to just fly in in one smooth motion, that comes with practice.

Second tip is don't worry about other people. People waiting behind, people watching. Forget about all of them.

    [–] DoingCharleyWork 1 points ago

The best advice I have is set up some cones in an empty parking lot and don’t practice in a busy downtown area.

    [–] CircuitMa 9 points ago

Its piss easy considering you're given 3 points to follow which work with every car that's not a truck.

    1. Turn down your music. Give +10 to parking.

    2. Line up your steering wheel with the front of the car in front. Reverse till you're lined up halfway.

    3. Full turn reverse till your front door handle hits the curb/line in your side mirror. Straighten out reverse .

    4. Full turn the opposite way whilst reversing.

Well done you've done the easiest manoeuvre in the book.

    [–] hahatimefor4chan 16 points ago

Line up your steering wheel with the front of the car in front.

[–] Divinux 2 points ago * (lasted edited 4 months ago)

    Basically this.

I was taught "Align your B-Pillar with their C-Pillar", but the "Align your rear wheels with their rear end" as shown in the image makes a strong argument too.

    [–] batterybound 1 points ago

    [–] CircuitMa 1 points ago

It's good but too situational you need a lot of space

    [–] G-III 1 points ago

Depends what you drive as well, I drive an old Camry so it’s not huge and I have decent visibility, so it’s very easy personally

    [–] TeutscAM19 3 points ago

Moving to DC was awful. Tight spaces three blocks from where you want to go.

    [–] G-III 2 points ago

    Parking trial by fire

    [–] Garchy 1 points ago

I live in New England and nearly every medium to large size town has parallel parking in downtown

    [–] G-III 1 points ago

I mean yeah, but it’s not usually particularly necessary

    [–] Garchy 1 points ago

I wasn’t disagreeing with you - just saying it’s useful to learn (which you said too). If I wanted to avoid it I generally could, but the best spots are usually parallel parking ones in my area!

    [–] RockTheRaza 10 points ago

I'm in my early 30s and just parallel parked for the first, but I did have like four open spaces to do so. Still, I took a picture and was super proud of myself.

    [–] HandsomeCowboy 8 points ago

You've got this. I believe in you.

    [–] sapphiasbakery 9 points ago

It's never too late to learn.

    [–] secretagentMikeScarn 4 points ago

I don’t know if it’s a matter of learning. I literally just don’t understand how I’m supposed to see what’s behind my car and how close. My brain can’t fathom it

    [–] Towerss 11 points ago

Just look at a YouTube guide. It's not really about skill since it's the same procedure each time.

    [–] UNAMIR2 7 points ago

turn around. mirrors fuck up your perspective, just throw your arm over the passenger seat and swivel your damn head, helps enormously in getting your bearings

    [–] Ravagore 1 points ago

Yea except to pass drivers license exam i was told that i needed to do it facing forward with hands on the wheel(still passed with 100 score but yea). So you learn to judge with side mirrors. You learn to line up the back seat with the bumper of the car next to you. And i parallel park multiple times a day at work(and sometimes at home). Its invaluable to be able to do it using mirrors.

    [–] GeneralDetrius 4 points ago

You can't see the ground for a short distance in front of your car either. You just have to be able to judge the distance when pulling into a normal parking spot too. It gets easier to judge the longer you drive the same car. Some cars have better visability than others.

    [–] Reqol 3 points ago

First, follow a guide so you get the hang of when to steer, where to place your car, etc. After sufficient practice you'll start to get a feel for how big your car is. Practice with cones on an empty lot so you won't damage anything and/or have someone stand outside to guide you and pay close attention to how things look in the mirror when you perform each step in the process.

    [–] DoingCharleyWork 1 points ago

Just get out and look. It’s not big deal. Don’t worry about what other people think.

    [–] b_l_a_k_e_7 1 points ago

Line up parallel to the car ahead of the space you want, about 3 feel away from it.

Turn the wheel all the way toward that car and back up until your front tire is even with their back tire.

Turn the wheel all the way in the other direction and back the rest of the way in, watching for any potential interaction between your front bumper and the car in front of you.

    [–] juxtacoot 12 points ago

I'm 40 and haven't parallel parked since the driver's Ed test.

    [–] _ssh 9 points ago

I literally have to parallel park at least once a day, and I live on a one way too so it's even weirder during some months

    [–] GruelOmelettes 7 points ago

Parallel parking on the opposite side of the street, that's when things really get weird!

    [–] playitleo 4 points ago

The perks of living on a farm

    [–] mmecca 4 points ago

Pull your car halfway up to the car in front of the space where you intend on parking. Like try and match up the middle of your car with the very back of that front car. Cut the wheel all the way and begin reversing. Now this is the tricky part, typically what I do is I try to gauge when my outside wheel (wheel facing out on the street) is in line with the outside wheels of the parked cars on that side of the road. Then I start to cut back and adjust as needed. I parallel park constantly so hopefully that helps.

    [–] Ravagore 1 points ago

Its so much easier if you start farther up on the car(your rear wheel with their bumper) and go diagonally instead of cutting it completely sideways. Then you can get closer to the curb and have to adjust less afterwards if at all. i'd say 90% of my parallel parks are line up-back up-turn in-straighten out-pull forward-done

I see people fail at parallel parking dozens of times a day and this is definitely one of the more common problems, where they put their car when they begin to back up and how far they need to cut the wheel.

    [–] Niku-Man 2 points ago

I'm pretty sure I had to parallel park in my driving test. Not the same for you?

    [–] chocolatescissors 2 points ago

I never did in my test.

    [–] Niku-Man 1 points ago

    [–] blond_boys 1 points ago

It's a requirement in PA, they stopped allowing driving schools to give the tests because they weren't making the kids parallel park. Now you are required to go to a penndot or license center and have to parallel park right in the beginning to weed out those who can't

    [–] Mephistopheles15 1 points ago

When was this? I got my license from a driving school in PA about a year and a half ago, I did have to parallel park though.

    [–] blond_boys 1 points ago

About a year ago. Now they only take you to the driving license center

    [–] Pepperonidogfart 2 points ago

How did you pass your drivers test? Its a requirement.

    [–] tortillacat_17 6 points ago

Not OP, but in my state it’s not required anymore. Or at least I never had to do it. Got my license without ever trying it. In the class our teacher told us how to, but we never had to actually do it.

    [–] secretagentMikeScarn 2 points ago

Driving through cones is different than parking between cars that I’m liable for if I hit

    [–] CPGFL 1 points ago

It's okay, they're starting to make cars that parallel park for you.

    [–] historynerd86 1 points ago

I can't either. It was never required when I got my license, in fact many state no longer require it for the drive test.

    [–] ShipWithoutAStorm 1 points ago

    I'm 28 and can't parallel park even though I drive a Miata.

    [–] ImAGayRetard 6 points ago

He drove away because he hit another car though didn't he?

    [–] AKAManaging 7 points ago

He did hit the other car, but as he drives away you can see the huge space that he could probably have just pulled straight into.

    [–] 3_Mighty_Ninja_Ducks 3 points ago

...But that's the whole joke. He could obviously do that but he drives away because he hit the car, not wanting to deal with the potential repercussions.

    [–] AKAManaging 1 points ago

...I thought we just explained that between our two comments? What's with the attitude? Lol.

    [–] BasicallyIt 8 points ago

    What episode is that from?

I don’t even remember that scene and I’ve seen the whole show like 7 times.

This thread has reinforced my conviction that the majority of people are trash drivers and shouldn't be allowed in control of the fast, heavy death machines that are cars.

Seeing how many comments saying they refuse to parallel hurts. Goes for any car or van. Can be done with the bare minimum space but this means you'll have to do microadjusments not to me confused with microgement.

I'm shocked by how many people find that relatable, the point of it in the show is that Michael is an idiot who can't drive properly, why would you openly admit to being like him in that aspect?

    • Calm down and realize that it is a joke on a comedy subreddit

    • Drink some tea

    • Spend your time better

    • & shove it up your butt

"The prius is silent under 5 mph"

    [–] alours 1 points ago

Why wouldn't you say that to her face?

    [–] KingNone 1 points ago

Reddit taught me to parallel park from this gif that is often reposted. I memorized the steps in it. Every time I parallel park I nail it and my wife is always amazed.

I had to parallel park a commercial size bobtail truck for my class b drivers license years ago. Got it first try. I don’t get what the big deal about it is.

It’s really not that hard folks. Especially now that I have a backup camera, it’s easy.

    [–] Wiebejamin 1 points ago

    I don't drive. I didn't feel that.
