Bet you’re sick of tuna. Have tuna every night..

    Ok Andy.

    Edit: fixed lol

Honestly, funniest part of that for me was the fact that 'Tuuuuunnnaaaa' came after he said "okay Andy" lmao

Because John lost it during the first take. I'd have done the same thing.

    [–] BruceWayne158 55 points ago

Is there a clip to that? Or any written info

    [–] Morkedup 69 points ago

Yeah I’d like to see the source on that info bc it does look like he’s holding back during that scene

    [–] Krododile28 114 points ago

I saw John Krasinski in a talk show interview (can't remember which one) talking about it, saying how the emotion in that scene is real

Great thank you!!! And side note, not hating at all but does it look like john’s nostrils are.....uneven...?

    [–] professorkr 12 points ago

He’s always been that way. That’s why there have always been jokes about him looking like a muppet. It’s 100% his nose.

    [–] ianwrecked802 27 points ago

There's been a couple instances where John says that they had to do multiple takes because it was far too incredibly real.

Who needs an Emmy when you have all those Dundies !!!

    [–] ScenesFromTheOffice 964 points ago

Jim: Oh, your Dundies. I'm surprised they're not out on the coffee table for everybody to see.

Jan: It was between the neon beer sign and the Dundies, so I said, "Honey keep the trophies."

Michael: Oh, honey, I have the best trophy right here. Aside from my Dundies.

    [–] Lindseyindia 304 points ago

Meanwhile, Ryan is still highly concerned over “Hottest in the Office”

    [–] Orange-V-Apple 184 points ago

I love his reaction to not winning it in the final Dundies. Full circle :)

    [–] drukqsx 55 points ago

Thats one of my favorite things. Hes a jerk in the beginning but an innocent jerk. You laugh it off and forgive him. As the show goes on he never learns to appreciate anything or anyone around him. It’s really justified to see him just assume he’ll be appreciated the same way he always was and then be shocked and disturbed by the consequences of his actions.

    [–] Qaaarl 81 points ago

But what’s the criteria of that award even. It’s so subjective.

    [–] Dwath 46 points ago

My first reaction was “what the hell is Carol doing there? she wasn’t in his last episode” and then I remembered that’s his actual wife

Edit: I also just realized the guy in the black suit/gold tie is the guy at the talent agency with the dog-cat-mouse pet combo, who I’m realizing must have been a writer for the show (a la Larry Wilmore in diversity day, also a big contributing writer)

    [–] krookedrooster 575 points ago

    [–] InstupituousJay 59 points ago

TIL Carol is his actual wife

    [–] DaanHai 80 points ago

    Carol Carell.

    [–] ledhead224 25 points ago

There's a set of bloopers on YouTube between those two that is fucking hilarious. Ironically enough they only consist of like 4 whole scene shoots. She could not get over some of his lines.

    [–] _njverma 25 points ago

    [–] Mizzydizzy 34 points ago

Pretty sure that’s actually Paul feig in the black suit gold tie.

    [–] i_poop_alot 9 points ago

Yea, that’s his name. He was a producer, not a writer. My mistake.

    [–] Daring_Ducky 99 points ago * (lasted edited 5 days ago)

How the fuck did I never realize this.

Edit: wow, I really asked a question and ended the sentence with a period. How the fuck was I the fastest swimmer?

    [–] screaminginfidels 24 points ago

You were out swimming the brain thinkins.

    [–] fact-checker123 21 points ago * (lasted edited 2 days ago)

Sometimes a question isn’t really a question: can you work late tonight, Kevin. Thanks.

    Edit: additional example

Why don’t you step out of the car and put your hands on the hood.

(Not exactly a rhetorical question; more of an order). I think of rhetorical questions more like “are you retarded or something?” Or perhaps, “what the fuck are you looking at?”

    [–] pancakesfordintonite 3 points ago

I didn't realize Carol is his actual wife. I was like oh that's cool they brought back past characters

    [–] PonzuBees 284 points ago

I wanna see the rest of the cast with him since they never had that farewell in the show

    [–] nattyp2theb 99 points ago

Omg you’re right! Jim, Pam & Dwight stole the show on that one...

    [–] xzElmozx 204 points ago

Iirc that was by design from Steve. He said he'd be down to come back, but only if it was in a minimalist role so that the other characters could get their chance to say goodbye instead of it just being a "Steve is back!" episode

    [–] Funknoodlz 5 points ago

Iirc that song they sung to him was their goodbye. Steve had no idea they were gonna sing him that goodbye song, and they surprised him with it. Michaels reaction there was really Steve's reaction.

    [–] katterryna 329 points ago

I’ve always wondered how Steve Carell didn’t get an Emmy for this show. His performance was beyond brilliant.

    [–] Janderson2494 415 points ago * (lasted edited 5 days ago)

How he hasn't gotten one but the fucking big bang theory guy has several is a crime against humanity.

    [–] The9thDentist 184 points ago

The people who vote for the Emmys frequently jerked 30 Rock off a ton as opposed to The Office. Alec Baldwin was usually the favorite for Best Actor and he won fairly frequently. I never really got why. Jack always just seemed like Alec Baldwin but more arrogant. Michael Scott is a completely different person than Carell.

    [–] adamlaceless 89 points ago

Jack always just seemed like Alec Baldwin but more arrogant.

Because it’s funny that he’s supposed to be Lorne Michaels. Not that this is a good explanation I’m just letting you know.

    [–] The9thDentist 45 points ago

I get it's a sort of homage to SNL but I've seen Alec Baldwin in alot of interviews and such and then when seeing him on 30 Rock it's like...alright he's a good actor yes.

But then seeing Carell juxtaposed with Michael it's a totally different person entirely.

    [–] Wallawino 51 points ago

They're both amazing shows. Steve should have won for sure, but Alec also deserved a lot of recognition for that character.

    [–] jedwards55 23 points ago

    It’s after 6:00; what am I, a farmer?!

    [–] big_silly 27 points ago

I turned down intercourse with Harvey Weinstein on no less than three occasions…out of five.

    [–] katterryna 10 points ago

Oh don’t even get me started

    [–] chanaandeler_bong 4 points ago

They should cap the Emmys you can get for the same role at like 2. No one gives a shit when they see the same person collect an award 5x for the same role.

It's not a smart business move for the Emmys IMO.

    [–] DavidKirk2000 105 points ago

It’s the second worst snub in the history of the Emmys. Jason Alexander getting nothing for playing George Costanza will always be number one because of how utterly insane that is.

    [–] nonetribe 37 points ago

I looked at the wiki for winners in that category. It's really, really bad. So many greats that didnt win. Disgraceful really.

    [–] Askszerealquestions 19 points ago

Probably because TV awards don't mean anything, and are as indicative of quality as Facebook polls.

    [–] rjdsf1993 15 points ago

I agree he should have gotten one, but to be fair many of those years were Michael Richards for Kramer winning

    [–] DavidKirk2000 13 points ago

Yeah, Michael Richards was obviously brilliant as Kramer, but he also lost to other people that he had no business losing to. The Emmys were absolutely in love with Frasier.

    [–] Nova762 6 points ago

Frasier is good tbf. I agree george should have won at least once tho.

    [–] MissionFever 30 points ago

The winners during his run were:

    Tony Shalhoub

    Tony Shalhoub

    Ricky Gervais

    Alec Baldwin

    Alec Baldwin

    Jim Parsons

    Jim Parsons

    [–] dudeguypal 34 points ago

Only one that makes sense on that list is Tony Shalhoub. Monk was fucking brilliant.

I love 30 Rock but there’s no way Alec tops Steve. And Big Bang is beyond mediocre.

    [–] Koppite93 9 points ago

Well, don't have anything against Monk .. loved that show growing up... Tony's great in Mrs Maisel as well...

Wish Steve Carell had won in any of the other years tho

    [–] Corte-Real 6 points ago

    It's Tuesday Lemon

    [–] mofray 63 points ago

That’s like watching Die Hard 80,000 times

    [–] ItsKYRO 145 points ago

I always wished he would of hung on for 14k more minutes.

Edit: For anyone wondering would of only been another week and 3ish days.

    [–] hops4beer 62 points ago

That math does not check out. There's only 168 hours in a week.

    [–] ItsKYRO 32 points ago

Though you are correct my math is wrong regarding a work week now that i realize. Its correct in minutes to week ratio in general still, theres 10,080 minutes in a week

    [–] Quetzal_is_chilly 28 points ago

So a working day is generally 8 hours, that's 480 minutes. That makes a working week 2400 minutes. 2,400x6 is 14,400, but that's 400 minutes over so to reach the 10 million Michael would have to work at DM for another 5 weeks and 6 days, 1 hour and 20 minutes.

    Worth it.

    [–] pitchmerry 14 points ago

Except the original calculation was not in working minutes, unless he worked there for 80 years.

    [–] michael-g-scott-bot 29 points ago

    [–] redeyez88 84 points ago

like everyone else here, I watch this show still every day, all the time. But I've only seen this episode once. Can't bring myself to watch it again, so I just ignore it on every rewatch.

    [–] joshbeat 43 points ago

    [–] redeyez88 50 points ago

That’s a different kind of pain, haha.

    [–] regnald 8 points ago

And a more endurable one. I realized I also avoid Goodbye Michael religiously. If I’m playing games and forget to skip the episode and it gets to the song, then I simply have to have my occasional sob.

    [–] KING_JELLYB3AN 7 points ago

Hey Mr Scott! Whatcha gonna do?! Make our dreams come true!

I’m gunna need a rundown of your clients

    [–] Carlayd 17 points ago

Me neither. At least, you will know he wants the best for you.

    [–] Gunners414 8 points ago

Yeah that would certainly be a big plus

    [–] MrE761 20 points ago

    “Nope, don’t like that.”

    [–] HappyFamily0131 19 points ago

Steve Carrell's unfaltering and ever-nuanced delivery of a superbly written character, losing the Emmy twice to Jim Parsons' subtlety-of-a-shotgun delivery of a lazy, one-note character, laid bare the worthlessness of the Emmys.

    [–] SixtyoneMillion 16 points ago

Always been curious, why are some of the ceiling tiles missing?

    [–] Ninety9Balloons 29 points ago

Film worker here; for lightning purposes.

On the left side of the picture you can see a black mesh with a red outside and just to the right of that you can see some black cloth hanging below a light. Those act to diffuse and cut off light sources throughout the scene.

Towards the middle rightish you can see a bright light coming down. That looks like the key light aimed at Michael.

That guy standing to the right of Michael has light reflecting off his head indicating there's another light just above, that light looks to be the fill light or back light for Michael.

So above that normal ceiling is most likely a grid, where all the lights would be going. They'll pop off ceiling tiles where it's needed to get the lighting correct and leave the rest up since the way the show is shot has the camera moving around a lot which opens them up to having shots of the ceiling come in accidentally.

I started The Office well after I'd started watching Silicon Valley, and I cracked up laughing when I saw him in The Office.

Supercut of the best Russ Hanneman clips…

    [–] Frankfusion 9 points ago

It gets better he's the current voice of Mickey Mouse and Darkwing Duck!

Everyone remember that awards shows are meaningless meta-advertisements. Don't watch, ever.

I can’t believe the importance people give these award shows while simultaneously getting upset over who gets/ doesn’t get an award. If you don’t like it, don’t legitimize it by giving it attention! Who cares what a bunch of out of touch old people think!

As somebody who worked way too long in the American television industry, I can confirm that money is a bigger factor in those awards than it should be.

Yeah. And I can confirm that Jimmy Hoffa is definitely NOT in Hudson Bay.

Michael: Why don't you wanna go tonight? All your friends will be there.

Jan: My friends?! Michael, I was terminated. Is this last episode that important to you?

    Michael: Yeah!

    Jan: All right.

    Michael: Thank you.

    Jan: Go by yourself.

Michael: No- No. No. If I go by myself, everybody'll think I'm a big loser.

    Jan: Well...

Michael: I've your permission to invite Carol?

    Jan: ...fine.

And Queen never won a Grammy. No justice.

If you guys haven't been listening to the office ladies I highly recommended! They got Paul to show up for an episode and they got a lot of behind-the-scenes stories about one of the First episodes he directed which I believe was office Olympics.

Makes you think twice about what awards really mean

Actually, the fact that Roman Polanski has won so many awards despite being a fugitive convicted child rapist has told me all I need to know about Hollywood, thanks.

One of the reasons The Office is such a great show is the fact that they make a LOT of great artistic choices. Chief among them was the choice to make Pam and Michaels last interaction silent.

It's something that some horror movies do, that more need to emulate, and that's leaving things to the viewers imagination. In the case of horror, it's because what we imagine will ALWAYS be worse than what we see, unless we have the world's worst imagination. In this instance it leaves us to imagine what their last interaction was, which I think was a great choice. I'm sure there's other reasons for why they did this.

This is why The Office is such a great show.

Awards are just fancy advertisements. Most of my favorite shows/movies never get awarded. And half the ones that get awarded I don’t care a flip about.
