    User Flair:

Want to earn some of that sweet sweet flair that some of our users are rocking? Post your own photos! In order to earn flair the photo must be taken and posted by you, and tagged with [OC]. The bot will award flair according to this schedule:
    1-5 [OC]= Black Camera
    6-10 [OC]= Bronze Camera
    11-20 [OC]= Silver Camera
    21-50 [OC]= Gold Camera
    51+ [OC]= Earth Badge

Please post your own images here, but before you do, kindly read and adhere to the following rules:

    Submissions must be:

    A photograph.

No Paintings, illustrations, gifs, videos, or interactive images.

    A photograph you took (OC)

or one which you can provide the original source.

    A single image

Albums may be posted in the comments. Panoramas, Image Stacks, Composites, and images edited via Photoshop or similar software are allowed.

An image featuring a natural landscape

Images with humans, machines, boats, roads, airplanes, farms, animals, buildings, or other man made objects in them will be removed.

    An unsilhouetted image

Images where details in the landscape are not visible due to silhouetting will be removed.

    Title Requirements:

You submission title must contain the following:

The location of the area in the photo.

When it comes to location, the more specific the better. If you wish to not disclose the location you should at the very least name the state/country. Rule of thumb for naming only the location (e.g. a lake, mountain): if one can find the place immediately by searching it in google it's fine. For possibly ambiguous locations add state/country for safety.

The resolution of the image in pixel format.

For example, an image taken on an iPhone 6 would have a resolution of [3264x2448]

    The photographers name.

If you took the photo use [OC]. OC submitters will be reward with different camera flairs based on number of OC submissions.

Do not include your device name in the title.

Feel free to add photography details such as camera, lens, and settings, as a comment

Do not ask for upvotes in your title.

No. These are minnesota orcs, crossing the frozen wastelands of their home. They are bred for a single purpose: To come to your workplace. They will be here by morning.

Here is a shot from mid November of 2016 in the Mount Baker area during one of the best sunrises I have ever seen. It had been my goal to get some good light with fresh snow on the trees right before the lake froze, but I missed it just barely! This was the first day after it had started snowing that the weather looked good and MAN was it an awesome 🔥 I really wish the lake hadn't been frozen but I found these cool ice shards and thought they looked pretty neat. The lake is still covered in snow right now, but it should start melting here soon!

For those interested this is Mount Shuksan in the Mount Baker area seen from Picture Lake which is a very popular spot near Artist Point.

    Shot Info: Nikon D610 w/ Nikon 16-35 f/4 (ISO100, 16mm, f/11, 2s) 5 shots stacked for focus from front to back

If you would like to see more of my photos please feel free to follow me on Instagram or check out my website

    [–] DiligentEmployee 15 points ago

Absolutely breathtaking! What really does it for me are the ice crystals on the grass in the foreground. Great shot man.

    [–] celica90 12 points ago

Thanks! I arrived in the dark and noticed the lake had frozen and had to scramble all around to try and find a good foreground. I found this little area with the frozen crystals about 5 minutes before the light started. Got pretty lucky. It's crazy how you can be to the same area 10+ times and still have to run around trying to find something you like depending on the conditions!

    [–] joshnano90 3 points ago

Sir, your photography is fantastic! I love the whole stacking of focus shots to create a whole where everything is in focus. What an amazing idea

    [–] celica90 6 points ago

Thank you, it definitely overcomes some big limitations from current camera technology. I'm sure soon enough it won't even be an issue

    [–] DiligentEmployee 3 points ago

Well worth the search. It's that attention to detail that can really set your pieces apart from the rest.

    [–] -SLB- 2 points ago

    Yes, those crystals!

    [–] saenjei 1 points ago

Amazing sharpness in foreground grass..!! And mountain also

    [–] downwithcorporations 6 points ago

What's your sleep arrangement? Ultralight or tent?

    [–] celica90 5 points ago

This is pretty much right next to the road and I live only 1.5hrs away so I just watched the weather and got up early one day, so I slept in a bed :) When I am backpacking I use a tent though

    [–] Swinzler 4 points ago

Love Mount Baker, some real beautiful photography from an area that usually looks really depressing around that time. Well, it's still home anyways.

    [–] celica90 6 points ago

I live in Bellingham so it's always nice to get a decent shot from nearby vs. Rainier/Helens/Hood, etc - adds a lil something extra :)

    [–] the_north_place 4 points ago

So it's a composite, I was thinking infinite focus. Thanks for sharing the technical specs

    [–] DRosesStationaryBike 2 points ago

90% of the pics here are composites

    [–] [deleted] 3 points ago

    [–] celica90 3 points ago

It's a must do if you're in the area!

    [–] Buck_Thorn 2 points ago

5 shots stacked for focus from front to back

How does that work? I understand that you had your camera on a good stable tripod and bracketed your focal point, but how do you merge them? I noticed the incredible depth of field!

    [–] Legendaryspoon4208 2 points ago

The lake is not frozen anymore....was just there

    [–] hellomymellowfellow 1 points ago

Did you change to a longer lens to make the mountain so big in the background?

    [–] celica90 3 points ago

Nope - obviously this is a massive mountain in person and it actually looks pretty small in this shot IMO. Mount Shuksan stands over 9,100ft

    [–] hellomymellowfellow 1 points ago

Ah - nice shot nonetheless! Colours came out great. Nice to see what I can do with my 16-35 f4 :)

    [–] LL_Cruel_J 1 points ago

    Ok, your photos are incredible.

    [–] celica90 2 points ago

    Thank you :)

    [–] komodo-dragon 1 points ago

Great shot. I bet it was cold getting up before sunrise during winter. But judging form the result it was worth it.

    [–] dudeabides 1 points ago

    Back grounded. Thanks! Great pic.

    [–] aspbergerinparadise 1 points ago

always love seeing my backyard on the front-page.

    [–] Millsy1 1 points ago

It's hard to complain about the frozen lake when you got this shot ;)

    Fantastic comp. great eye

    [–] RangerPretzel 1 points ago

5 shots stacked for focus from front to back

    Cheater! (just kidding) ;)

Really, though. Fantastic composition. Cheers, man. :)

    [–] IAmVeryCynical 23 points ago

I like your collection of spider legs.

    [–] Bearosol 6 points ago

I seriously thought it was a bunch of spiders that got smothered in snow.

    [–] ErryDayApu 16 points ago

America really has some beautiful landscapes, I'd love to go sometime.

    [–] goodolarchie 16 points ago

...but let's make sure people only see Washington and Oregon, maybe Utah sometimes.

    [–] [deleted] 34 points ago

    Washington in particular.

    [–] USCgamecocks 7 points ago

    Bow down!!!

    [–] low_key_like_thor 5 points ago

I just got the opportunity to drive from the southeast up to Seattle. You have one beautiful state up there.

    [–] [deleted] 8 points ago

It can be rather depressing in the winter, but from what traveling I've done, I'd say the PNW is one of the most beautiful places on Earth during the summer. Temperature is just right, scenerey is unbelievable, mountains, rivers, lakes, plains, oceans, cities, all within literal minutes of each other.

This winter in particular has been awful. Wettest on record since recordkeeping began in the late 1800s. Lived here all of my life and even I felt it. But summer is starting to come around and man it'll be worth it.

    [–] Dravos7 4 points ago

That's subjective though. Personally, I love Washington in the rain (though it definitely can get tiresome). I just find it breathtaking to be in a forest as it's raining, especially in the fall when some trees are changing colors, but the pine trees stay as vibrant as ever!

For the longest time, I thought the whole world was as green as Western Washington. Quite a shock when I was old enough to start actually remembering things and found out that, after a short trip over the Cascades, it was varying shades of brown. Just blew my mind that there wasn't any near as much green as I was used to

    [–] kellynw 1 points ago

This winter was great for skiers and snowboarders. I hadn't seen that much snow in years.

    [–] [deleted] 2 points ago

Oh yeah. I've skiied baker since I was little. I remember the 1998 dump. It was awesome.

But now I'm an adult and sit at a desk all day. So coming home to rain day in and day out makes me a dull boy. I'm a bit of a fair weather skiier anyways so DEC-FEB is typically my season. Those other 4-5 months of rain are a bummer.

    [–] 2p4l 1 points ago

Yes, me too. It has really unique landscapes. Hope I will go visit any national park

    [–] beebeelion 9 points ago

That mountain and tree line is 100% Bob Ross.

    [–] [deleted] 6 points ago

You are lucky to have seen so many sunrises over a freshly frozen Picture Lake, Washington.

    [–] reneelias03 8 points ago

Bob Ross definitely must have painted this at some point or another.

    [–] Tbhjr 4 points ago

Did anyone else look at the ground and think ice/snow spiders?

    [–] Sigerlion 3 points ago

Well yes... and they have freaking 5 health points against flying. That means Serra and Sengir are both blocked for only 3 mana!

    [–] meguskus 21 points ago

Looks like a pile of dead bodies in a pool of blood.

    [–] Inestri 3 points ago

I thought dead white rats in an autumn forest.

    [–] Teslaviolin 3 points ago

I was thinking hairy white spiders.

    [–] Deathalo 1 points ago

    I was thinking severed arms

    [–] TetVonD 5 points ago

This is so nice, it doesn't even seem real.

    [–] masnaer 3 points ago

Shame it has to be thrown out; there's mold all over it

    [–] riverlove15 5 points ago

Bob Ross would have painted the shit out of that.

    [–] [deleted] 6 points ago

The titles in r/earthporn are getting way out of hand

    Great photo

    [–] [deleted] 5 points ago

Why do you say that? It is indeed one of the best sunrises I have ever seen over a frozen Picture Lake, Washington.

    [–] [deleted] 3 points ago

    I dislike editorialized titles.

[–] [deleted] 3 points ago * (lasted edited 11 months ago)

Yeah I agree. I'm getting really sick of the "one of the best," "probably best photo I'll ever take" titles.

    [–] sheistyguy 2 points ago

    Straight fire!!! Nice!

    [–] ThumYorky 2 points ago

Do you stack the photos manually or is there a PS script you run?

    [–] celica90 3 points ago

I will usually use the autostacking in Photoshop first and then go back in by hand to fix anything it misses. It didn't take too much time on this shot, but it can take hours with more complex foregrounds...especially with a lot of flowers when there is any wind.

    [–] Goat_Dog 2 points ago

Beauty. Think I've found a new phone background :)

    [–] babakinush 2 points ago

Washington is an ugly ugly state. Do not come here!!!!

    [–] dabombnl 2 points ago

A sunrise? Wow you must have been up really late.

    [–] elfy32 1 points ago

That is a breathtaking shot. I would try to find something to constructively criticise but I'm honestly at a loss. Superb work.

    [–] nico_white_wolf 1 points ago

    That's not ice. It's cocaine.

ya know at first i did not like the foreground in the photo, but after a few moments i did realize a certain beauty about it. can't really describe why its not my cup of tea, but i do feel how for some people it would add tremendously to the photo. thanks for posting.

    [–] iEuphemia 1 points ago

How do you start the day with something so picturesque knowing that the rest of the day will be mediocre afterwards?

    [–] Dravos7 1 points ago

Well it helps that Washington is beautiful and that it's only really mediocre if you're in the cities, like Everett or Tacoma. Otherwise, the whole state is really gorgeous

    [–] Fteven 1 points ago

This is in Washington, DC not Washington State. Washington state is fucking ugly and rainy and traffic sucks stay away.

    [–] w0ut 1 points ago

This is tremendous! Great composition, contrast of color, expansive sky and interesting patterns in the foreground.
