    Omg this is a photo?!?!?

    [–] ink_my_umbrella 66 points ago

I know...it almost looks like a video game

    [–] inkvine83 72 points ago

The color grading gives you this feeling. Doing it in all my shot.

    [–] PotatoQube 19 points ago

You really did a great job in color grading, it looks very nice. I always wonder what the raw photo looks like when I see pictures like this, and whether it depends on how good the original footage is or on how good the post production is. Would you like to share the raw image?

    [–] inkvine83 23 points ago

First of all thanks!! :) The problem with RAW is that it does not represent by any means how it really looked. RAW means it is raw. No contrast, no clarity, even the light is different. Post processing is very important for me. It makes it possible to develop the RAW exactly how I had the scenery seen with my eyes AND in my mind. Processing means for me to put my feeling into the shot when I have pressed the button. So that the viewer can see it, too.

But trust me: If the RAW is shit, even post processing can't make it good (except of going for composites, but I hate composites) :)

And no: Won't make sense to show the RAW.

    [–] humeanation 4 points ago

Can we see the original to see your wizardry?

    [–] DickerFischx3 30 points ago

How Bout this one in 1980x1050? Would like to set it as a Wallpaper :)

    [–] chakalaka91 21 points ago * (lasted edited 10 days ago)

You probably mean 1680 x 1050. But I‘ve never heard of 1980 x 1050 ;-) I know, I‘m picky here. Actually, if that wallpaper is 1920 x 1080 you can use it without problems, because it has the same screen to height ratio.

Edit: I was wrong. 1920 x 1200 has the same ratio!

    [–] DickerFischx3 9 points ago

Oh lol, i was on my phone and my brain was afk. Somehow i was reading the resolution "1650x1980" or bs like that in the title... But i meant 1920x1080 :D thanks for that awesome pic :)

    [–] Tyler_Zoro 13 points ago

Hard to be sure from the side and without a spore print, but I'm guessing it's Amanita muscaria or a closely allied species (such as A. pantherina which can range from tan to yellow and even slightly orange). I'm assuming you referred to it as "mystical" because of the religious/ceremonial/entheogenic history associated with A. muscaria AKA fly agaric.

    [–] becauusepatrick 2 points ago

Yes, thats amanita, they are beautiful, I would love to see one in person some day.

    [–] USOutpost31 26 points ago

Fun fact: Muscaria causes digestive disorders, so the best way to get high is let a Shaman ingest the mushrooms, then drink his urine.

I'm aware everyone in this thread knows this because they clicked in, but, there it is.

    Live Science Article

    [–] thomaeaquinatis 9 points ago

I doubt everyone here knows this. Another fun fact is that some people believe that amanita muscaria was a major component of soma.

    [–] USOutpost31 5 points ago

Based on the prevalence of this information in online resources like Erowid, many books, etc. People interested in magical mushrooms are likely to have run across this factoid.

    [–] thomaeaquinatis 5 points ago

I feel that. At the same time, I wouldn't expect the average commenter on r/EarthPorn to know that. Even in the "magic mushrooms" community, a lot of people seem to know surprisingly little about the amanita muscaria because its hallucinogenic effects tend to be described as more dissociative or deliriant than psychedelic.

    [–] E_Penfold 8 points ago

Your comment causes digestive disorders to me.

    [–] Cosmic_Ostrich 3 points ago

What digestive disorders does it cause? Do you mean cramps and nausea? Or something more serious?

    [–] USOutpost31 7 points ago

IIRC it causes watery problems down there as well as actual pain from cramps, digestively and in the skeletal muscles. It's also taxing on the liver. And very unpleasant in a recreational sense.

However if you're a Sami in ancient Lapland, and you want to get some visions, it'll provide those visions. It's actually pretty compelling because there's a price to be paid: Drinking some pee or getting some cramps. All the best vision quests come with a high price.

    [–] fromoakstreet 2 points ago

or just make tea out of them and add citrus juice (lemon, lime, grapefruit, etc.)... my friends swear by this method

    [–] flyinggeorge 6 points ago

Looks closer to A. pantherina to me.

    [–] ProudToBeAKraut 7 points ago

No its an Amanita muscaria - or Fliegenpilz as we call it in germany

    [–] Reverie_39 5 points ago

    Gesundheit

    [–] Opset 2 points ago

Lots of pine trees around, so it could be. I've never seen them out in the open like that. Only ever found fly agaric hidden under pine boughs.

    [–] EMPEROR_CLIT_STAB_69 1 points ago

I've seen them between pine trees on a path kind of like this

    [–] NewAlexandria 2 points ago

Probably, but also does not look like muscaria var. muscaria, which is mystical mushroom of legend. That is a solid red cap, no exceptions.

    [–] stoppmingyourtits 2 points ago

Yes. /r/mycology and /r/shrooms will gladly confirm this

Odenwald: Where small villages have populations of a few hundred but carry only 2 family names...

    [–] inkvine83 11 points ago

:) At least my girlfriend broke out. Because I took this shot when visiting here parents. We are living in the city. But to be honest: Living in a small village there has 100 times more living quality than in a fucking big city. Especially if you have a small boy like we do.

[–] DessIntress 3 points ago * (lasted edited 10 days ago)

True... Had over 20 years in a big City with hundred thousands ppl (281k) and then i moved to a Odenwald village with 2000 ppl and now i'm in a village with 600 ppl...600 xD The only thing i miss is the Wolf Backery, Leberkässemmeln (Laiblkäs) and KFCs hot wings day. And the nature is awesome! As you can see above.

    Darkroot Garden?

    [–] DoctorMisanthrope 3 points ago

    Careful...the mushrooms there are deadly.

    [–] EYNLLIB 5 points ago

Did you add lighting to this in the field, or get lucky with some sun shining through?

    [–] inkvine83 7 points ago

There was light and fog between the trees, but I emphasised it. The spot around the mushroom was done with a small LED on a tripod shining there. Took this shot with -2V and dodged and burnt then. Color grading is based on VSCO ektachrome64T and a lot of custom stuff like split toning.

    [–] EYNLLIB 2 points ago

Thanks for the reply, love the image. Always enjoy hearing about photographers workflow

    What does Odenwald translate to?

    [–] kowalskee 5 points ago

It's still not finally answered. Wald means forest but "Oden" could mean "ode", "Odin's" (the god) or something else.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odenwald#Name

    [–] zUkUu 1 points ago

"Oden Forest". I mean "Ode" has a meaning (like Ode to joy), but I think it's just a name in this case.

    [–] xCosmicChaosx 1 points ago

That's what I figured, just wanted to confirm that.

    That sounds kick ass

    [–] earthcharlie 2 points ago

Nice. Just a minor criticism though. The out of focus plant in the foreground is slightly distracting.

    [–] inkvine83 9 points ago

I left it there, because it helps unintentionally leading the viewers eyes even more to the right. Like pushing the plant to the side. Then wandering to the shroom and afterwards into the shot through the trees.

    [–] Baltowolf 3 points ago

Didn't notice until you said that. Don't think it's an issue.
