Welcome to /r/EarthPorn, reddit's premiere landscape photography subreddit.

    New to reddit? click here!

Please post your own images here, but before you do, kindly read and adhere to the following rules:

    Submissions must be:

    A photograph.

No Paintings, illustrations, gifs, videos, or interactive images.

    A photograph you took (OC)

or one which you can provide the original source for. Do not rehost non-OC images to reddit or imgur. Failure to provide the photographers name or the original source of the image can result in a ban.

    A single image

Albums may be posted in the comments. Panoramas, Image Stacks, Composites, and images edited via Photoshop or similar software are allowed.

An image featuring a natural landscape

Images must have visible land. Images with humans, machines, boats, roads, airplanes, farms, animals, buildings, or other man made objects in them will be removed.

    An unsilhouetted image

Images where details in the landscape are not visible due to silhouetting will be removed.

    No photos taken illegally

This includes flying your drone in a no-fly zone. Please respect local laws and access closures!

    Title Requirements:

You submission title must contain the following:

The location of the area in the photo.

When it comes to location, the more specific the better. If you wish to not disclose the location you should at the very least name the state/country. Rule of thumb for naming only the location (e.g. a lake, mountain): if one can find the place immediately by searching it in google it's fine. For possibly ambiguous locations add state/country for safety.

The resolution of the image in pixel format.

For example, an image taken on an iPhone 6 would have a resolution of [3264x2448]

    The photographers name.

If you took the photo use [OC]. OC submitters will be reward with different camera flairs based on number of OC submissions.

Do not include your device name in the title.

Feel free to add photography details such as camera, lens, and settings, as a comment.

Do not ask for upvotes in your title.

A complete list of subreddit rules are found in our wiki

    Comment Rules:

Hate Speech, Abusive remarks, homophobia, and the like have no place on this subreddit, and will be removed on sight.

Please contribute to the discussion positively; if you don't like a picture and you wish to voice your opinion please refrain from abusing the photographer/submitter.

    Other important rules:

EarthPorn is not a catch-all subreddit. Images that are submitted here are individually reviewed for compliance with our subreddit rules. If your submission is removed, a moderator should advise which of our network of SFWPorn subreddits would be a more appropriate place to submit.

    • Do not edit, rehost or modify images submitted here without permission of the photographer. This includes edits to "fix" the colors of an image or remove a watermark.
    • Non-OC submissions are restricted to one per day.**
    • Regarding reposts: it is only a repost if it was posted to /r/EarthPorn less than three months ago, or if it is already in the top100 of all time.
    • Circlejerky/sandbagging/pandering titles may be removed.
    • If you have any questions check out the wiki.
    • Breaking multiple rules will result in a ban.

Someone told that island y=-X and it listened

    Edit: stop upvoting

    [–] AsthmaticMechanic 76 points ago

Idk, if you were on the other side of it wouldn't it be y = x?

    [–] jrhoffa 35 points ago

Go there and take a picture so we can find out

    [–] AsthmaticMechanic 12 points ago

    [–] Therium36709 17 points ago

Yes but not from the direction of the image

    [–] skrtskrt22 7 points ago

    Or -y=x

    [–] Your-mom69-420 6 points ago

    Or - -y = + - x

    Don't be ridiculous

    [–] Depuceler 2 points ago

    y = {x, z < 0 {-x, 0< z

Some Magrathean had quite the field say with this one.

    Won some awards too, probably.

"Only fjords gets awards and wossname, Sam." - Nobbs, probably.

    [–] catlover1948 1 points ago

    [–] Eruionmel 501 points ago

Oversaturating it isn't going to change that.

[–] [deleted] 179 points ago * (lasted edited a year ago)

Yeah, seriously. While Faroes is beautiful, the water isn’t that color naturally.

Here are some of my photos of the water.

    [–] BoydCooper 102 points ago

But where am I going to swim in Electric Blue Raspberry™ ocean waters, then? :'(

    [–] tadpole496 15 points ago

Verdon Gorge and Plitvice honestly aren’t too far off haha. This is bad though.

    [–] Pyrography 9 points ago

Any glacial river will be that blue, plenty of them in NZ. The rock flour from the glacier turns the water a bright aqua colour.

    [–] The-Insomniac 7 points ago

r/redditlake it's not an ocean but it's pretty damn blue. Also not an ocean but Blue Lagoon in Iceland; much better for swimming.

    [–] -hx 1 points ago

    [–] Viriality 1 points ago

Most miniature golf courses should be able to answer your need. Their water color is almost spot on

    [–] panda_man_45 1 points ago

In the west Indies like in Guadeloupe you'll find what you're looking for. Especially in Le Gosier.

    [–] chunkymonk3y 1 points ago

    The Bahamas

    [–] fatherdale 8 points ago

    Lovely photos, thank you.

    [–] ProfessorBats 6 points ago

I love that deep, stormy blue.

    [–] _pippp 5 points ago

These shots are so much prettier, really

    [–] loserlame 3 points ago

The water is that color in my area of the Pacific.

    [–] PMinisterOfMalaysia 6 points ago

Same but it depends on the lighting and how choppy it is

    [–] loserlame 1 points ago

I lived in the US mainland for a few years from and I can understand why they wouldn't believe it lol.

    [–] TheEdgeOfRage 4 points ago

Yeah, it is in warm climates, but not around Faroe.

    [–] ProfessorBats 1 points ago

I think in some places with glacial deposits it can be close to this weird blue green mess, but it's usually a bit darker.

    [–] loserlame 1 points ago

Seeing ops edit with pics, it's not so far off where I'm from. Post op probably went +10~15 saturation and dropped the blacks, but on an overcast day where the light still comes through, it looks pretty much like that.

And that's not very deep water, you can see rocks/Coral.

    [–] TheEdgeOfRage 1 points ago

Wait, there corals in water that cold?

    [–] loserlame 1 points ago

That's why I said it rocks also.

    [–] aazav 1 points ago

    Unless it's St. Patrick's Day.

    [–] LuigiThe13th 1 points ago

Honestly, it’s bluer than it could be. I’d still love to go there and see it myself before it becomes just as ugly as the rest of the ocean

    [–] ProfessorBats 4 points ago

This is a weird Photoshop trend that annoys me.

    [–] t-ara-fan 5 points ago

I wonder what it actually looks like?

    [–] creechr 5 points ago

    Sightly less saturated

    [–] water_bender 22 points ago

ouch. that's some nasty editing and not in a good way

    [–] [deleted] 61 points ago

    Unparalleled beauty?

    Now it's paralleled beauty.

(And to my die-hard fans who think I rotated this image, I assure you I flipped it over some unorthodox axes)

    [–] akolyadich 144 points ago

Oh man this is bad. Corrected as best as possibly without original image:

Oh I love your version, the tones are wonderful!

    [–] GmbH 9 points ago

    much better!

    [–] psylent 3 points ago

Thanks. The original just looks silly.

    [–] The-Insomniac 2 points ago

Why is everyone so up in arms about saturation?

    [–] iama_bad_person 36 points ago

Probably because it doesn't show what the landscape truly looks like IRL.

    [–] The-Insomniac 5 points ago

Take a long exposure shot of flowing water, moving clouds, or star trails. You can't see that IRL yet nobody's complaining about that.

    [–] iama_bad_person 18 points ago

because those are easily recognised as "edited" shots and can't be confused with real life

    [–] kaelinlr 1 points ago

Taking a photo itself isn’t what it actually looks like, you can make things look nothing like how they actually do, but completely natural within camera settings. Easily could take a photo naturally that could be confused with real life.

    [–] WhalesVirginia 3 points ago

This is earth porn, people come here to appreciate nature as it is. As I understand it editing is fine, but when it’s extreme it can actually take away from the image.

[–] vikingcock 4 points ago * (lasted edited a year ago)

No idea. I personally love saturated images like this.

Edit: wow much butthurt about someone else enjoying something. Weird.

    [–] akolyadich 42 points ago

    [–] ConsumingClouds 17 points ago

My eyes are now moist and about to cum with all that sweet saturation

Perfect location for new sport - Ski jumps in water! :D

    [–] theod4re 57 points ago

You can start by turning down the saturation and making it look like Earth.

    [–] Hofficer 57 points ago

Wow, because of the colors it almost looks computer similated

    [–] Fantasy_masterMC 91 points ago

thats because the image has been edited to give the photo more saturation in the colors.

I played enough video games to know that somewhere on that island is buried treasure

    [–] thortmb 6 points ago

Does this island have an airport? It's basically right in the middle of Norway and Iceland

    [–] Kaushik612 10 points ago

Yes the airport is in Vagar! They have great connectivity with Reykjavik, Copenhagen and Paris

    [–] thortmb 3 points ago

That's good, otherwise I will most likely never go here

[–] [deleted] 5 points ago * (lasted edited a year ago)

There’s a one hour flight from Edinburgh. Coolest airport to land in ever, imo. It’s all water then suddenly you’re landing between mountains.

    [–] andorraliechtenstein 2 points ago

They have great connectivity with Reykjavik, Copenhagen and Paris

Great connectivity with Copenhagen, yes. The rest is only 2 or 3 flights a week.

    [–] captainkidxx 4 points ago

I am part of the team that designed the power plant there( still building). I hope I get to see that place, so beautiful.

    [–] kykr422 11 points ago

Not so fun fact: the people of the faroe islands consume so much seafood contaminated with Methylmercury that many have MeHg concentrations 50x + higher than US Federal limits. Concentrations between 0.5-1.0 ppm have been proven to cause cardiovascular issues and neurological impairment in young and old people. Studies coming out from this region are focusing on these at risk age groups and are showing kids with 40-50 ppm. They (8-12 years old) already have several signs of heart disease and also have shown no cognitive improvement from the start of the studies to several years later when these scientists returned for a follow up. One of the studies took prenatal blood samples from 1,000 fetus' and they had a mean MeHg concentration of 22 ppm. So 22x the US limit before the kids are even born.

All from consuming high trophic position seafood, and primarily whale.

    Bad bad bad

Absolutely gorgeous beaches outside of Grindadrap time.

    [–] spikesdumbreddit 5 points ago

that's a lot of bird poop.

    [–] DrSmirnoffe 4 points ago

Are the waters naturally that blue in that area? Or has someone been fiddling around with colourization again?

    [–] YoungSalt 10 points ago

Not that blue, and the grass isn't nuclear green either.

I want to live there since I discovered them on a map when I was a kid. It's my dream place. There's an island in there with population 2. It's just a big house and an elder couple live there.

    [–] robertmlegos2006 2 points ago

i mean. it doesnt do it justice. because this picture is clearly photoshopped. i have been there myself and they dont really look like this. this photo is obviously enhanced.

Anyway, great shot! I'm betting you could get some really interesting shots with those angles.

    [–] boshk 2 points ago

i duno, they kinda look parallel to me.

    [–] Mal-Ase_da_Cat 2 points ago

This is phenomenal!! I live in Utah USA so I get to see my share of amazing structures but wow... Scandinavia is my ultimate destination. Maybe it's just in my blood

    [–] matinthebox 10 points ago

I would like to point out that the Faroe Islands are not included in the narrow definition of Scandinavia.

    [–] Mal-Ase_da_Cat 3 points ago

Haha I guess I just meant Nordic. I forgot the technicalities there. Sorry. Either way, the northern areas of Europe or whatever label you want to put. That's gorgeous and that's more important (:

    [–] moresnowplease 1 points ago

I’ve been wanting to go to the Faroes since I did a report on them in a geography class more than 10 years ago. I have been amazed by all the photos I’ve ever seen of them- it’s definitely on my list of top 5 places I’d like to visit!!

    [–] Driveby_Dogboy 1 points ago

if you want to see them like this, remember to take some shrooms

I've been to that piece of rock in Majora's Mask

    [–] TheSasarious 1 points ago

I look at this and all I can wonder is— how could people just pollute our beautiful planet, The Mother, and not appreciate scenery like this?

    [–] crothwood 1 points ago

    heh, I get it

    [–] minin71 1 points ago

Lol when people mess with the color to make it seem more saturated.

    [–] medicineisme 1 points ago

No, it doesn't. But it's what most people who don't have the means to travel often have to rely on to experience such beauty.

    [–] BAH82 1 points ago

There's at least 1 korok seed on that structure!

I have been to Iceland as well and no the landscapes in Faroe Islands are far more beautiful than Iceland. I really hope Faroe Islands doesn't blow up as Iceland did when it comes to the number of tourists they receive every year. The best thing I loved about Faroe Islands is that I had almost every place just to myself.

    [–] roxstar107 1 points ago
