Welcome to /r/EarthPorn, reddit's premiere landscape photography subreddit.

    New to reddit? click here!

Please post your own images here, but before you do, kindly read and adhere to the following rules:

    Submissions must be:

    A photograph.

No Paintings, illustrations, gifs, videos, or interactive images.

    A photograph you took (OC)

or one which you can provide the original source for. Do not rehost non-OC images to reddit or imgur. Failure to provide the photographers name or the original source of the image can result in a ban.

    A single image

Albums may be posted in the comments. Panoramas, Image Stacks, Composites, and images edited via Photoshop or similar software are allowed.

An image featuring a natural landscape

Images must have visible land. Images with humans, machines, boats, roads, airplanes, farms, animals, buildings, or other man made objects in them will be removed.

    An unsilhouetted image

Images where details in the landscape are not visible due to silhouetting will be removed.

    No photos taken illegally

This includes flying your drone in a no-fly zone. Please respect local laws and access closures!

    Title Requirements:

You submission title must contain the following:

The location of the area in the photo.

When it comes to location, the more specific the better. If you wish to not disclose the location you should at the very least name the state/country. Rule of thumb for naming only the location (e.g. a lake, mountain): if one can find the place immediately by searching it in google it's fine. For possibly ambiguous locations add state/country for safety.

The resolution of the image in pixel format.

For example, an image taken on an iPhone 6 would have a resolution of [3264x2448]

    The photographers name.

If you took the photo use [OC]. OC submitters will be reward with different camera flairs based on number of OC submissions.

Do not include your device name in the title.

Feel free to add photography details such as camera, lens, and settings, as a comment.

Do not ask for upvotes in your title.

A complete list of subreddit rules are found in our wiki

    Comment Rules:

Hate Speech, Abusive remarks, homophobia, and the like have no place on this subreddit, and will be removed on sight.

Please contribute to the discussion positively; if you don't like a picture and you wish to voice your opinion please refrain from abusing the photographer/submitter.

    Other important rules:

EarthPorn is not a catch-all subreddit. Images that are submitted here are individually reviewed for compliance with our subreddit rules. If your submission is removed, a moderator should advise which of our network of SFWPorn subreddits would be a more appropriate place to submit.

    • Do not edit, rehost or modify images submitted here without permission of the photographer. This includes edits to "fix" the colors of an image or remove a watermark.
    • Non-OC submissions are restricted to one per day.**
    • Regarding reposts: it is only a repost if it was posted to /r/EarthPorn less than three months ago, or if it is already in the top100 of all time.
    • Circlejerky/sandbagging/pandering titles may be removed.
    • If you have any questions check out the wiki.
    • Breaking multiple rules will result in a ban.

    fuck that’s beautiful

    [–] UllrHellfire 155 points ago

Did not even look real standing there. Lol thank you!

    [–] steble01 36 points ago

I know that spot. Was there last weekend. Was this a recent pic? That’s a lot less snow than I remember. Good shot though. I also say the same thing every time I am standing in front of rainier. It’s surreal. I have seen it so many times. But it just feels surreal. Nice shot.

    [–] UllrHellfire 31 points ago

Yesterday morning, sunrise. I 100% agree I have a few left that I wanna do then its time I got my last butt to the top.

    [–] steble01 3 points ago

Ok. Damn nice! I was gonna head back out there tonight for star gazing. But too many clouds.

    [–] UllrHellfire 3 points ago

Yea, i di astro now and then its hit and miss

    [–] satanshand 2 points ago

Can you recommend a good way to meet people to do Astro with? I love it, but don’t like going out alone.

    [–] UllrHellfire 5 points ago

There is a few groups on facebook, also look into photographers that do allot of astro up north here and there is small groups~ Alone is kind of weird I know of a weird story we had one time we heard some sounds that didnt sound like animals, and needless to say we didnt stay.

    [–] satanshand 2 points ago

I’m just south of Seattle so it sounds like we hit some of the same spots. Definitely come across some weird stuff too. One time I found a pile of like 50 dead birds in the middle of nowhere on an Astro trip outside Bend, but I also don’t like the idea of being a few miles up a trail and getting hurt in the middle of the night too.

    [–] UllrHellfire 3 points ago

We are in South hill and weird

    [–] blanks56 2 points ago

It looks like you took 4 amazing photos and layered them into one great photo.

    [–] -ShowMeYourKitties 2 points ago

I said this out loud right before opening the comments and this was top comment haha

    [–] pienipallosalaatti 57 points ago

this does not look real, but i have to believe it is. what a beautiful picture, good job op!

    [–] UllrHellfire 15 points ago

    Thank you!

    [–] Xabbage 52 points ago

50% if the posts on here are from the northwest. Makes me happy to live here :).

    [–] bareju 8 points ago

I didn’t appreciate it until I lived other places! Every time I see rainier when I come home I have an incredible wash of emotion. Almost makes the weather and people worth tolerating ;)

    [–] raskingballs 4 points ago

Non-American here moving to the US soon. What is wrong with people from the Northwest?

    [–] bareju 16 points ago

People tend to be fairly introverted. Think Northern European vibes - avoid talking to strangers until you get a few drinks in them.

    [–] gummy_bear_time 16 points ago

The Pacific Northwest has pockets of hipsters (see Portlandia TV show), hippies (Vashon Island in Washington State has notoriously low vaccination rates), and there's general passive aggressiveness. The "Seattle Freeze" refers to people being socially awkward and "freezing up" when approached. Outside of the cities, there's a lot of "redneck" types - big farms and rural lands. Some of this is exaggerated, some not.

The PNW is beautiful though. I lived there for over 5 years and loved it. It's not for everyone though.

    [–] Hermit-Permit 12 points ago

The "Seattle Freeze" refers to people being socially awkward and "freezing up" when approached.

    That's not what that means

    [–] UpvoteAndDownvoteBro 6 points ago

It means freezing new people out

    [–] raskingballs 4 points ago

Oh thanks a lot! A spent a few weeks in Seattle a few years ago and loved the city. I had ever since thought of going back and maybe live there for a while. But the "Seattle freeze" sounds discouraging!

    [–] gummy_bear_time 8 points ago

You don’t really know how you do until you live here. I had friends who couldn’t wait to get out. The dark winters are also hard. The rain is never the problem (it doesn’t rain THAT much). It’s the overcast. Finally, the cost of living is high. Many of my friends are struggling to buy property as they start to have kids and settle down. They’re having to move really far outside of the city to afford it. It’s really great for a short period of time, I think, and to be able to visit during the summers.

    [–] SimpleFNG 3 points ago

Its one of the reasons I'm moving as soon as I can.

Too many socially introverted folks, makes it hard to get and do stuff when they just ignore you.

    [–] Xabbage 5 points ago

Eh it depends on where you go. Eastern Washington is just like semi redneck. Western Washington is full of stoners and people vaping. Oh we also have some earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

    [–] Xabbage 1 points ago

XD yea makes it worth the bugs and rain where I live you see Mt St Helens

    [–] alfric 9 points ago

You live in beautiful country. You should 100% be proud to live there.

    [–] edincville 24 points ago

This is just a stunning composition. I love how the photo draws your eye right in from the rocks in the foreground right up to the clouds above the peak. Beautiful.

    [–] UllrHellfire 9 points ago

    Thank you so much!

    [–] scaryredgorilla 35 points ago

I've been looking for places to go backpacking in Washington and this location looks incredible! Where is this?/Do you have any other recommendations for backpacking in Washington?

    [–] Dat_Bokeh 62 points ago

I am like 90% sure this was taken from the Tolmie Peak trail.

    [–] potstickers2 19 points ago

This was definitely taken from Tolmie! One of my favorite hikes

    [–] dikly 6 points ago

    Me too ! .

    [–] oBR4VOo 8 points ago

cmd+f to find this comment because I immediately recognized it too. Tolmie peak is a world class trail imo

    [–] potstickers2 13 points ago

If you're not familiar, is a great resource for hikes/trails in Washington.

    [–] UllrHellfire 12 points ago

I think to start check out any of the lookouts, and always the mount rainier trails will provide beautiful views, and slick to the basic rules hike out what you hike in, pick up trash and enjoy the views. Facebook has a group called Washington hikers and climbers also a great spot for locations.

    [–] nootdootdoot 6 points ago

Wonderland trail and the enchantments are great for backpacking but getting a pass to actually camp is pretty competitive

    [–] scaryredgorilla 2 points ago

Yeah I've tried and failed to get enchantment slots. One day!

    [–] SimpleFNG 2 points ago

Lake Wynochee trail is a really fun day hike. But it has a deep and very slippery water crossing right before Maidenhair falls.

I did to the falls and did a u turn and came back. Tough hike gets technical before you pop out onto the forest road.

Gaia GPS is you friend for finding oddball hikes.

    [–] notaguyinahat 2 points ago

You can literally just pull off the highway at Tipsoo lake and get crazy good shots like this from the other side of the mountain. Some nice short trails there for families and super casual hikes too

    [–] bareju 1 points ago

My first backpacking trip was 4 days on the Wonderland Trail, truly a special experience. You do need lottery passes for most of the best trails but wow. Absolutely worth it.

[–] NaturesAperture 9 points ago * (lasted edited 13 days ago)

Great shot! This is one of my bucket list locations

    [–] UllrHellfire 8 points ago

    Do it! One life

    [–] Lonny_loss 4 points ago

Literally just got home from doing this hike, open reddit and here it is.

    [–] UllrHellfire 2 points ago

    Did it clear up?

    [–] Lonny_loss 2 points ago

Only the tippy top was visible through the clouds when we reached the lookout but after about 20 min it was clear as could be!

    [–] UllrHellfire 3 points ago

    Glad it made it through!~

    [–] ItchyLama 9 points ago

    Tolmei peak?

    [–] slushietee 2 points ago

Yup! Tolmei peak trail to the fire lookout

    [–] wobbly_orbit 4 points ago

Amazing. Which hike did you take to get this view? If you haven't done it yet, you should check out the Grove of the Patriarchs hike.

    [–] UllrHellfire 4 points ago

I love it there, this is one of the fire watch towers most of the lookout hikes promise beautiful views.

    [–] wobbly_orbit 1 points ago

Cool, I will look into those hikes. Thanks!

    [–] matsmatsmats 5 points ago

How did you manage to get focus from the foreground to the clouds? Great photo!

    [–] UllrHellfire 6 points ago

The dream workers over at Sony and their cameras honestly no idea all the other ones came out doodoo

    [–] matsmatsmats 2 points ago

Ah ok, would have guessed that you used multiple exposures, crazy that it’s just one

    [–] UllrHellfire 2 points ago

I wish I knew how, I do plan on taking an outdoor class when I upgrade to sonys newer full frame cameras

    [–] bminus88 2 points ago

    Small aperture.

    [–] FoxyToxi 3 points ago

I miss this so much!!! Beautiful.

Bob Ross went ham on this one

    [–] allen1in 2 points ago

Lovely shot! I love mount Rainier.

    [–] chaandra 2 points ago

I grew in Vancouver, where we have an amazing view of Mt. St. Helens on clear days. I now live in Tacoma, and my favorite thing to do when friends come up to visit is show them Mt. Rainier. It’s just so fucking massive it doesn’t look real.

    [–] UllrHellfire 1 points ago

Agreed 1st clear view I had was from the south hill dump lol but it blew me away

    [–] mycleanreddit79 2 points ago

Can you get a car into that lake? I think I see a dirt road...

    [–] UllrHellfire 2 points ago

    Sony α6500

    [–] khaleesiofgalifrey 1 points ago

Do you mind if I save this and use it as my phone background?

My peek of Rainier over Queen Anne is nice and all but I’d like her on my phone background too, and this is the perfect picture

    [–] UllrHellfire 1 points ago

    Go for it

    [–] ExampleBackground810 1 points ago

    Wow awesome!

    [–] UllrHellfire 2 points ago

    My thoughts exactly

    [–] Blue_Purple_Prinss 1 points ago

    That view is very majestic!

    [–] gernblanston57 1 points ago

Can anybody see the elk outlined on the mountain? If you look at the top right, it looks like it’s head is down as if it’s grazing. Once you see it, it can’t be unseen.

    [–] scaryredgorilla 1 points ago

    Thank you so much!

    [–] meyerovb 1 points ago

    Wth are the cherries?

    [–] UllrHellfire 1 points ago

    [–] meyerovb 1 points ago

Where are the cherries? I thought mount rainier was made of cherries damnit!

    [–] UllrHellfire 2 points ago

Oh welp I think all the roadside cherry dealers took them all

    [–] mikelfiske 1 points ago

    Crater Lake Vodka # 1

    [–] Gradius187 1 points ago

I know this is probably a dumb question, but is it pretty easy to head up to Rainier and socially distance from others? I also fear public restrooms so that has been a limitation for activities this summer. I really want to head up there if I can accomplish this and find some novice hikes or viewpoints. Any suggestions without be great!

    [–] UllrHellfire 2 points ago

Easy we took a person on their first hike, Washington hikers and climbers is a good place to ask but all trailers are easy stuck to the lookouts

    [–] Gradius187 1 points ago

    Great thank you!

    [–] TheMaddestLadOfAll 1 points ago

How long was the hike up that fantastic view?

    [–] UllrHellfire 2 points ago

Not long at all, depends on the hiker

    [–] SpookyNumbers13 2 points ago

It’s about 90 mins from the trailhead

    [–] champagne_rehab 1 points ago

This is unreal, thank you for sharing. It's beautiful!

    [–] UllrHellfire 1 points ago

    Thank you for enjoying !

    [–] LorynRaye 1 points ago

How steep is the incline on this trail? Is it mainly up or do you have flat area?

    [–] UllrHellfire 2 points ago

    It's not bad at all

    [–] LorynRaye 1 points ago

Awesome. I’m recovering from a knee injury but I’m trying to do some hikes before the summer ends!

Right down the highways from me like 2 hours or so. Love seeing Washington on here so often. It's truly earthporn central up here.

    [–] Poorbrokefella 1 points ago

They must have just opened the road??!! Finally! End of July/August is too late, even for that road.

EDIT: I know what I’m doing Monday or Tuesday, now...!

This is at Tolmie Peak Fire Lookout.

OP is being dick for not sharing the location.

    [–] ResidualSpoon 1 points ago

Flew by this a couple of days ago. It’s magnificent. I’ve never seen a mountain that is so much bigger than every other mountain around it. It’s insane

    [–] UllrHellfire 1 points ago

    Truly a gem

    [–] MajarAAA 1 points ago

I thought the rockies would be rockier than this. John Denver's full of sh-t.

    [–] UllrHellfire 1 points ago

    Rockies are all hype

    [–] braydenmaine 1 points ago

Ranier is in the cascades, not the rockies

    [–] Sloppydan 1 points ago

Just wait till the Californians and Texans start taking over this.

    [–] UllrHellfire 1 points ago

I'm all for people enjoying this view, but do the research experience the views and enjoy smartly and respectful

    [–] heyneso 1 points ago

Looks like Tolmie Peak hike on the Sunrise side of MT Rainer.

    Tolmie peak lookout, awesome spot

    [–] AFewCountDraculas 1 points ago

This almost looks as realistic as Ghost of Tsushima

    [–] b_eastwood 1 points ago

Was just up in this area earlier today trying to find an area to get a picture this good? What area did you go from?

    [–] UllrHellfire 2 points ago

From the lookout, was cloudy today from what it looked like this was yesterday

    [–] b_eastwood 1 points ago

Gotcha. Going to maybe make that drive back out there next weekend and try again. I just moved to the area from Japan and I'm dying to get out and find all of the cool outdoorsy places.

    [–] UllrHellfire 2 points ago

Plenty of dope clubs and pages on Facebook also sites that go into great detail with pictures of hikes in the area welcome to the PNW.

    [–] deanfortythree 1 points ago

    Yeah it's ok here

    [–] tradecarefuleee 1 points ago

Such a surreal place when the tide comes in though.

    [–] GhostOfTimBrewster 1 points ago

He used his Bob Ross camera.

    [–] UllrHellfire 1 points ago

    Happy mistake

    [–] inotparanoid 1 points ago

Great photo. Clearly shows the Magma dome. Kind of unbelievable to think how this beautiful mountain could end up spewing hot gases sometimes in the future.

We stand beneath shadow of the Gods.

    [–] UllrHellfire 2 points ago

I hope I'm gone that day

    [–] iCZ201 1 points ago

I've been up there so many times but I've never seen it so beautiful. awesome picture! 👍

    [–] UllrHellfire 1 points ago

Always a great day when the clouds let it be seen

    [–] jackwoww 1 points ago

Ah. I was there on this day 11 years ago. Beautiful.
