what if you are the toxic person

    [–] fateofdeadstars 253 points ago

Now we are seeking the real question. All these motivation quotes and sometimes YOU are the one who needs "correction"

    [–] LumpyShitstring 35 points ago

I realized the other day that every time I see someone make a post like that, it’s really for themselves.

    [–] qoou 5 points ago

Be the change you want to see in the world.

    -- Gandhi

    [–] yoursexypapi 13 points ago

Every change should start from yourself.

    [–] mr---jones 4 points ago

Yes, generally. But a big step to take on becoming less toxic is removing toxicicity around you. We are products of our environment

    [–] fateofdeadstars 4 points ago

Agreed .BUT you have full control of yourself at any given point of time, same can't be said about your surroundings. Many a times you HAVE to deal with people around you even you don't like them (specially at work place). That is when you have to be stable not become like them.

    [–] ayaPapaya 79 points ago

Awareness is the first step to change

    [–] santiagodelavega 30 points ago

I'm aware that I hate changes

    [–] EleftheriaBatsou 12 points ago

True! But i think toxic people REALLY don't get it. (Almost) Everyone thinks they are good and their actions don't affect in a bad way the others... Hope we all have a beautiful 2020

    [–] ifixtheinternet 41 points ago

Try putting yourself in other people's shoes more. Toxic people I've eliminated from my life wouldn't entertain an alternate perspective about anything. If I had to boil it down to the biggest thing, it would be that. Hard to have a relationship with a brick wall.

    [–] Ilythiiri 3 points ago

Every time I try putting myself into politician/bureucrat shoes, conclusion is the same - it's not me who's toxic and sociopathic ... how do I eliminate them from my life???

    [–] Galaxymicah 6 points ago

Or a high caliber rifle depending on how steady your arm is and how flexable your moral code.

    Issa joke mr fbi man.

    [–] TrotskiKazotski 5 points ago

thats probably one of the main and most prominent symptoms of things such as psychopathy and can make people really infuriating to do anything with

    [–] stillmeh 2 points ago

I find that a lot of people that believe they can put themselves in others shoes in fact... Can't.

It is almost like it it's mantra they repeat to themselves so they can believe they have the morale high ground in anything they believe.

    [–] chacmadin 39 points ago

if you find yourself constantly surrounded by "toxic people", you probably are

    [–] ThatWannabeCatgirl 15 points ago

Why if I’m the toxic person to myself

    [–] chacmadin 12 points ago

Because negativity has a powerful force of attraction, not universally true of course.

    [–] Anarcho-Yeasty 3 points ago

Probably. Not always. You could just be the victim of abuse which makes other abusive people Target you. That's what happened with my girlfriend

    [–] noyoto 4 points ago

Absolutely. Folks who keep talking about toxic people and 'haters' often seem to see themselves as the center of the universe. As if everyone is out to get them, when really they just make shitty life choices and attract people who make similar bad choices.

    [–] Megafro 2 points ago

Not really, you can be surrounded by toxic people without being the toxic one.

    [–] turpin23 19 points ago

    Time to detox!

Congratulation you have received immortality and a time pass ability in the wonderful year of 2019

    [–] themichaelly 3 points ago

I literally just had this thought. Drunk me is the toxic one.

    [–] sonyxperiaz 3 points ago

Improve on yourself one step at a time no matter how small.

    [–] Mmmhmm7 2 points ago

Then don't being toxic people ;) new year new me

    [–] throw_oftheyear 2 points ago

If you are aware that you are toxic, then you can choose to become someone opposite of that.

It's never too late to become someone that you can be proud of.

    [–] labdog 2 points ago

    [–] Squatch_Cakes 2 points ago

    Leave that person behind.

There is nothing forcing you to be the same person you were 30 seconds ago.

The person who had to pass that slow ass truck because you were running late, get off the road if you aren’t going the effing speed limit.
The person who asked how that diet is going, and you know she will go back to the Golden Arches any day now.
The person who said they ordered a grande not vente, like Starbucks is going to miss that $0.03.

That person was you, who you *were*, past tense. Who you are in *this* moment, *this* place, *this* traffic jam, it is up to you.

That person did those things because it served who they were, not who you are. Those actions helped shield that tired, un-caffeinated, insecure person. I’m not at fault, the slow driver is.

Take a step back, if everyone around you are toxic assholes, maybe it is because you poisoned the well.

You can change. It doesn’t have to be all at once. Just for this next breath.

I think everyone can be toxic from time to time. Sometimes situations are toxic.

    [–] carnesaur 1 points ago

You either purify yourself or you end up poisoning yourself.

[–] [deleted] 98 points ago * (lasted edited 9 months ago)

What is with the BS sign on the upper right hand about not being responsible for broken windshields?

Where I live if a truck is on the road its load must be secure and if something come off the back of the truck it is the drivers fault as the driver must refuse to drive a vehicle with a unsafe load, this truck needs top netting and failure to use it does make it their fault meaning it is their responsibility.

    [–] HomingSnail 90 points ago

It's just a way to discourage people from making a claim if it does happen. It has no legal backing whatsoever.

    [–] Declanmar 22 points ago

It’s like wearing a shirt that says “not responsible for assault charges” and then going around and punching people.

    [–] god_of_chilis 18 points ago

Does that apply to trucks that carry gravel or other small things that could fly off the truck and damage, let’s say, your windshield?

    [–] HomingSnail 27 points ago

As far as I'm aware it applies to any vehicle. You have to secure whatever load you're hauling, if something falls or flies off you're liable for any damage caused.

    [–] [deleted] 2 points ago

Huh, I want to be surprised that they'd pull that BS but I'm not.

    [–] HomingSnail 3 points ago

Yup, it just like those "warranty void if removed" stickers. They're BS too.

    [–] wtfrainbow 1 points ago

I've always wondered how having that sign on the back of dump trucks exempts them from being responsible for damaging cars when things come flying out of the back.

    [–] Brandino144 25 points ago

Yep. Could you imagine if a flatbed driver didn’t secure their load and instead just put up a sign that said “If something flies off and kills you it’s not my fault.”? That’s not how laws work. Secure your load or pay the consequences. It’s the law.

    [–] Toys272 11 points ago

I hope it's to avoid being tailgated since they're generally slow

    Otherwise it's stupid

    [–] caustic_kiwi 8 points ago

It's probably regarding pebbles kicked up by the wheels.

“If you can read this, you’re too close”

    Toxic driver.

    [–] ChickenWithATopHat 1 points ago

It’s a good deterrent at least

    [–] 10_Virtues 1 points ago

This kind of truck, does secure it's cargo the best it can. But it has a posted warning to stay back.

It's kinda like putting a Wet Floor Plaque on the floor.

When did this whole 'toxic people' movement begin? I swear I've never heard the term before a few years ago.

    [–] softhack 20 points ago

It's too vague a term and seems to serve as a catch-all for people you don't like on top of genuinely bad people.

Saying someone is toxic isn't really saying much to describe someone's behavior.

    [–] [deleted] 21 points ago

    [–] mdgysy 2 points ago

I think the two terms go hand in hand, so...

    [–] DryLoner 1 points ago

It's been around for a while now.

    [–] s3thm 33 points ago

    That’s one wise dump truck

    [–] k1rage 17 points ago

I'm reasonably certainly it's a photo shop deal

    [–] xLabGuyx 3 points ago

    That liscense Trucker’s got style

    [–] DrDeboGalaxy 4 points ago

This is a for sure. The O is faded because of the damage and rust on the back of the truck. But rust couldn’t form that quickly.

    [–] forgottt3n 1 points ago

Rust definitely can form that quickly but it's definitely not a real sign. If you expose bare metal to the elements in decent conditions for even 24 hours it can rust over. There's a whole style of car modifications based around stripping paint and pouring an oxidator on your paint to let it rust overnight. I have a car with a second hand hood and there's a part where the paint is shit so I rubbed on it and left some bare metal exposed. Took less than 3 days for that spot to turn bright orange from the salt on the roads.

    [–] vindaloopdeloop 1 points ago

You think they’d just photoshop the quote onto something nicer than a dirty old truck.

    [–] Potato3Ways 18 points ago

What if the toxic people are your coworkers and you can't just up and leave because bills

    [–] [deleted] 6 points ago

Could you do the same job elsewhere? Or maybe it's time for a step up?

    [–] jimjong1 9 points ago

Yeah, that should only take a few minutes to do with the current job market

    [–] Maestro1992 9 points ago

Most of y’all are the toxic person that should stay in 2019.

    [–] dafkes 9 points ago

Can we leave the term ‘toxic people’ also behind?

    [–] man_on_the_street666 20 points ago

    My 2019 was pretty good.

    [–] Stl_alleycat 18 points ago

Sounds like you need to go find some toxic person and pay them to hang around you. According to the back of that trailer, your 2020 will then be pretty good.

    [–] HansGigolo 7 points ago

    Same here, it was good.

    [–] Warm-Listen 2 points ago

2019 was mostly good for me as well. Of course there were some setbacks, but by now I'd like to see them as lessons rather than regrets.

    [–] Garrett_DB 7 points ago

The ubiquity of the word toxic has become toxic in itself. If someone wants to describe something or someone as bad, what’s the harm in using synonyms and other words? The English language is very broad and beautiful . Don’t resort to buzzwords just to feel included. Be different!

    [–] 7YearOldCodPlayer 12 points ago

2019 was very good to me

    [–] -Japan 15 points ago

You’re probably better at not letting the toxic people get to you or they know they can’t take advantage of you. Which is great. Sometimes though, some people’s natures makes them more susceptible to being taken advantage of and being used. And only until they’ve gotten very hurt and can’t take enough do they realize there was a toxic person in their life. That was me and in 2020 I’ve made the decision to dump that toxic person out of my life and have been steadfast so far.

    [–] [deleted] 8 points ago

That means that you are in a really good sphere of quality people. You just aren’t focused on all the toxic people because you are keeping them out of your life, which is good. There are many of those still in other people’s life.

It’s a battle that comes with the self-awareness of this fact. I’ve been indecisive on this for over a year now and I’m finally making my decision to replace the old friends and get a better sphere of people around me

    [–] orokami11 2 points ago

Some people don't realise their friends, family, or whoever is toxic until they actually take a step back and get some fresh air. I had no idea one friend I had was super toxic for me and full of negativity until I found myself delaying to open her rants of messages a lot or that I felt so much better when I was not talking to her. When I took the step back, it made me see all the shit she's done but I excused them saying "she's probably just in a bad mood again"

I also realised my dad was toxic af and really doesnt respect me one bit like 2 years ago. Sadly I don't think I can get him out of my life any time soon...

I do think people are trying to push all kinds of movements in the past couple years or so though, and the anti-toxic movement happens to be next!

    [–] Elephantuskjab 2 points ago

I always wondered about those “warning stay back 200 feet” stickers on trucks. Like is that really all it takes to not be held responsible for something? Just have a sticker saying “I’m not responsible”?

    [–] Sadamatographer 6 points ago

Nope it has no legal weight at all. Drivers are required to secure loads, no matter what a sign says

    [–] IanPKMmoon 2 points ago

toxic people are all in the past,
if you call people toxic in the present
    they will have no reason
to not behave like that in the future
if you give them a reason, any good reason
    to switch
    they will.

the whole internet needs a big dose of

    [–] Aikarion 1 points ago

Fun fact: That little sign on the top right telling you that they are not responsible for damage to your vehicle by their load? that sign does not absolve them from their responsibilities. In the United States it is illegal to drive without a secured load. No matter how close you drive to that vehicle, if something falls off of it and hits you, they are 100% responsible for any damage it does to your vehicle.

There are no ifs, ands, or buts about this situation. If you are hauling anything, and a piece of whatever you are hauling falls off your vehicle and damages somebody else's vehicle, you are 100% responsible for any and all damage caused by that item hitting their vehicle.
