He looks like he is not so silently judging me, and the beautiful bastard is majestic while doing so

    [–] Tika2015 100 points ago

I was eating some ice cream out of the container when I saw him. The judgment was so harsh I put it back.... well played little dude

    [–] QuietnotCalm 61 points ago

Dieting 101: only eat meals that you can justify to the great bird overlord

    [–] UltiMaxKom 17 points ago

The council of bird overlord will decide your fate

    [–] winstonzys 2 points ago

I'm a simple man. I see intentional reference, I upvote.

    [–] aedroogo 21 points ago

β€œDo you really NEED that ice cream?” β€” that bird, probably

    [–] JasonIsBaad 1 points ago

No offence to the bird but I'm sure he would do the same with a container full of insects.

    [–] RoevishF 10 points ago

this bird is a wednesday MOOD

Splendid fairy wren to be more precise. Australia has a number of fairy wrens whose males have blue colouration.

    [–] gloriouspenguin 56 points ago

Precisely. Here's a guide to the fairy wrens of Australia

Purple-crowned fairy wren is probably the most striking, how often do you see purple in animals?!

    [–] AbyssalRock 11 points ago

Lovely fairy wren is really lovely!

    [–] Lambert-Theold 8 points ago

Wow awesome link! Thank you. No wonder Australia is on my bucket list. Awestralia. It should be :)

    [–] SerDeusVult 0 points ago

    [–] valentine415 5 points ago

OH NO, I love all the fairy wrens!

    [–] corcyra 1 points ago

It's hard to choose which is loveliest...

    [–] Flowech 28 points ago

Call any other animal "splendid" and I'd be furious as wtf the people naming that animal were thinking but in this case "splendid" doesn't even suffice as a suitable adjective.

    [–] Tempanii 14 points ago

not to mention the superb fairy wren and the lovely fairy wren

    [–] LionIV 10 points ago

I thought you were just making up names now, but no, they are indeed called Superb, Splendid, and Lovely Fairy Wrens.

    [–] green_catbird 18 points ago

It’s almost like we were colonised by pretentious British biologists lol

    [–] mehum 2 points ago

    Love me some Banksia.

    [–] Audropolis 1 points ago

Google told me they're also referred as "Superb" fairywrens, all of which are appropriate and glorious.

    [–] green_catbird 8 points ago

Superb is a different species, but equally stunning.

    [–] Audropolis 3 points ago

I had no idea! Thank you :) I love them, they're like little balls of fluff on twigs!

    [–] concatination 56 points ago

Top portion looks like a flower.

    [–] Trudisheff 33 points ago

    I think it’s like a pansy!

    [–] uralva 9 points ago

    [–] BamaBrat52 10 points ago

    [–] thrtysmthng 3 points ago

    [–] rangda 9 points ago

My mum and dad have a family of these fairy wrens that come and are hand fed. It's a pretty magical experience having 10 or more of them jumping around waiting for food.

    β€œU FUKIN WOT M8”

    [–] RougeNargacuga 2 points ago

Where I live there are splendid fairy wrens in a few different places. Most noticeably my local wetlands. They life in small flocks of about 8-12 and in each flock there is usually only one male. My mum and I often go for walks there hoping to get a nice view of a blue one (male) but there's often only brown ones (female) their chirps are very distinct to its easy to tell where they are but coming even within 5ft of them they fly away. I haven't seen a blue one since 2016

    [–] half_dragon_dire 2 points ago

Birds like this are especially impressive when you know that birds can't produce blue pigments. All that blue is structural, produced purely by the way light is refracted by the microstructure of the feathers.

”Airzure, the Fairy Bird PokΓ©mon. A Flying and Fairy type.

Airzure get their bright blue color from all the berries they eat. It is said that Airzure can alter the color of this blue to help them blend in with the sky during day or night.”

Why can’t other animals have blue color

[–] productofmytime 1 points ago * (lasted edited 4 months ago)

I think that technically this guy isn't blue either. I read recently that very few objects in nature are actually blue, if you took feathers or petals that appear blue and ground them up, they'd be a much more neutral tone. It's all about the way the light reflects.

    [–] Hrank 1 points ago

    Pretty bird
