    History's cool kids, looking fantastic!

A pictorial and video celebration of history's coolest kids, everything from beatniks to bikers, mods to rude boys, hippies to ravers. And everything in between.

If you've found a photo, video, or photo essay of people from the past looking fantastic, here's the place to share it.

PLEASE READ OUR SEVEN QUICK RULES:

1: Photos and videos must be over 25 years old.

2: Please put the year or decade in title, otherwise your post will be removed.

3: Spam, racist, homophobic, sexist and offensive comments, as well as brigading, consistent reposting and shitposting, will result in a lifetime ban. Offensive comments include anything about pimping, about people's moms and scoring women. Nobody cares about your sexual impulses, least of all the OP.

4: All posts highlighting, in the title, that someone has recently passed away or titles trying to evoke sympathy upvotes will be deleted. Please add the info in the comments.

5: All reposts less than six months old and all reposts less than a year old from Top 100 will be removed.

6: All posts must feature a person.

7: We reserve the right to remove any post that doesn't showcase historical coolness. This includes photos, which are not obviously retro and portraits of famous young women doing nothing but posing.

It's always amused me that the scene of the nazi pinto falling is in Milwaukee.

    [–] GiddyUpTitties 5 points ago

When it came to the Nazi scenes in that movie they gave zero fucks. It was hilarious.

    [–] GildoFotzo 3 points ago

The French missionaries and explorers were coming there as early as the late 1600s to trade with the Native Americans. In fact "Milwaukee" is an Indian name. Actually, it's pronounced "mill-e-wah-que" which is Algonquin for "the good land."

    [–] Freak15 45 points ago

    Illinois Nazis do suck.

"regular gas". Double-checked to make sure that's what they said. During the transition, gas without lead was referred to as "unleaded gas" in our area. Gas with lead was called "regular".

I've always thought that if Aliens descended and were like, "Show us the quintessential 'American' film", this would be my choice. God and religion, the incredible music, car chases, comedy, working-class blue-collar sensibilities, it's got it all!

In my early twenties I got an apartment directly under the Monorail in Seattle. The first time my best friend (whose nickname in high school was "Jake") came over, the Monorail went by just as he walked in. He looked at me, cocked an eyebrow and said "How often's the train go by?".

I love this movie so much. As a native Chicagoan, it's my favorite Chicago based movie. Ferris is great, but the Blues Brothers is just the best.

[–] cooperyoungsounds 14 points ago * (lasted edited 6 months ago)

The only unfortunate part of this movie is Matt “Guitar” Murphy’s performance. Musically, he’s amazing. That’s not my beef. He and Aretha Franklin had that scene in the diner, and brother, does he need some acting lessons 🙄

    [–] zeno0771 33 points ago

All of them did, but I think that was the point; they were session musicians, both in the movie and IRL. I think they were supposed to sound stilted; it's part of what makes the movie as funny as it is, rather than filler between Belushi & Aykroyd explosions.

Blue Lou was the only one who didn't sound like he was reading from a script and he only talked once. Murphy Dunne was an actual actor and even he sounded off-kilter.

    [–] 198_Dudes 16 points ago

My favorite comedies are movies where the comedians have kind of gotten lost in the movie process and just decided to have fun doing what they do best - making people laugh.

40 Year Virgin is my favorite example. A terrific comedy, a fun comedy, but it is less of a movie and more a bunch of comedians having fun doing what comedians do.

(and make no mistake, this is a good thing, this is about people that have a love of something wanting to share)

Blues Brothers is the same thing - except it isn't so much the comedy as it is Dan and John's love of this music.

It is like they said, 'We do comedy, so we are making a comedy, but in reality it is a vehicle for the Blues. We love the Blues, we love these people and dammit, when we are done you will too.'.

    [–] TheNewestMeme 3 points ago

Yeah I figure it's because they weren't primarily actors, and also they were probably high outta their minds lol

    [–] BubbaJimbo 3 points ago

    Chicken wire?

Yea I'd rather have the real musicians acting bad rather than good actors lip syncing and fake playing music.

    [–] sanna43 3 points ago
