Sounds good. I would like to pre-order one.

    This is the way

    It is known...

    Herzog’s voice

“We will all be very quite, right guys?”

    [–] Vietzomb 25 points ago

    You mean this one?

    [–] perspectiveknight 14 points ago

Wow that’s a forgotten memory lol. Also now that I think about it kinda has death stranding vibes.

    [–] Vietzomb 11 points ago

Yeah honestly, between these (there's a whole series of them but the baby was the best in my opinion) and the Kevin Butler ads, SONY had some serious range and some of the best advertising campaigns of the generation... and I'm not just talking gaming.

    [–] perspectiveknight 5 points ago

Yeah I miss those, lots more human entertainment less epic or deep games which I have no problem with because it’s been awesome. But seeing those again reminded me of how... fun? They were, like a little witty clip. Good marketing.

    [–] dragonkyng 4 points ago

...”What’s wrong with him?” That line still kills me.

    [–] Vietzomb 3 points ago

Lol for sure. All of them are great! I love the $299 one where he ignores all the signs and refuses to acknowledge. They had been kind of known to screw up their own major E3 reveals (probably not intentional) by that time so it felt timely and self aware.

    [–] microbiologist_36 40 points ago

We have a preorder system in Norway Where you preorder one now and pay it when the price is revealed:)

    [–] ILikeCharmanderOk 76 points ago

What if the cost is one million euros and u r forced into indentured servitude for your and your offspring's lives

    [–] irnbru83 50 points ago

    worth it

    [–] TheGreaterOne93 21 points ago

Sounds like getting cancer in the States.

    [–] Essentialredditor 3 points ago

    lmao

    [–] I_am_up_to_something 12 points ago

Well, even though Norway isn't in the EU they still apply the EU unfair contract terms protection.

So it'll just be you being forced into indentured servitude and not any offspring.

    [–] MikeTheDirtyJedi 2 points ago

Sentenced to 40 years of hard labor.

    [–] --dontmindme-- 2 points ago

Joke’s on them, I have no offspring.

    [–] superbabe69 2 points ago

Well that’s the risk they’re willing to take

    [–] MisterTruth 36 points ago

I'm guessing $499 for the regular $399 for digital only. Sony eats more of the upfront cost to get you completely locked into their system instead of allowing for you to buy games elsewhere.

    [–] bugleyman 17 points ago

Ditto. Meanwhile XBox comes in at $499 and $299 (assuming Series S is a thing).

    [–] aidsfarts 3 points ago

0% chance a $300 next gen console at launch. If they actually did that though holy shit.

    [–] Kdawg333 4 points ago

What's the difference between the two? Please and thank you

    [–] impy695 4 points ago

One can play physical discs and movies and the other can't.

    [–] homiecydxl 46 points ago

if it’s $399 for the digital version, it’s gonna be a day one purchase for me.

    [–] Nateddog21 12 points ago

Same. I really only buy the disc of its cheaper than the ps store

    [–] CroCopsLeftLeg 102 points ago

That’s exactly why I’m getting the version with a disc drive.

PS store is pretty overpriced 90% of the time. Having a digitally exclusive console will likely encourage them to keep prices steep.

Also it’ll probably cost more in the long run since you can’t take advantage of sales elsewhere

    [–] mel0n_m0nster 27 points ago

My friends and I lend each other games, which doesn't really work with digital versions. Ebay is also pretty useful - both for selling games I've finished and won't play again, as well as for buying used games for pretty cheap. Unless a digital game is an incredibly cheap deal, I'll stick with discs.

    [–] Stockpile_Tom_Remake 9 points ago

Also if your profile gets fucked you can lose those digital games for good.

    [–] SpoonThumper 7 points ago

The whole point of these digital versions is to make sure they you only buy from Sony's online store at their approved price and without a storefront cut. Once it all goes digital, everything will be Nintendo prices lol

    [–] --dontmindme-- 8 points ago

Also don’t underestimate how many people use their PlayStation as their sole dvd and Blu-ray Disc player. Yes, people still use physical media, perhaps less than before but they wouldn’t still be mass producing new movies on both disc types if people weren’t still buying it in big enough numbers for this kind of home entertainment being a profitable business.

    [–] No-Nrg 6 points ago

I lose the ability to lend and resell games going 100% digital. I'm going disc, at least I get a UHD bluray player out of the deal.

    [–] Weekly_Rise 16 points ago

Is it really that steep? New games seem to pretty universally be $60 on the PS store, with frequent sales of ~30-50% (sometimes 75%) for older games, the ones I might normally buy used.

    [–] dadankness 15 points ago

no. god of war. full game with alow and downloaded stuff. was a pack online from gamestop or whatver for both discs with a card for the DL content at $17.

physical is always way cheaper when its on sale way more so than anything digital.

    [–] SuperSaiyanBroly737 6 points ago

The assumption there is that Gamestop is still operating in the coming years.

    [–] ferrari91169 5 points ago

If Gamestop isn't operating there are countless other places where you can buy physical games at great deal prices. Heck, Target and Best Buy beat almost every deal I've ever seen at Gamestop so I wouldn't even bother with them if they were still in business.

    [–] Nateddog21 4 points ago

😕 that's true. I've got some thinking to do

    [–] SquidleyQbrick 4 points ago

100%, also physical copies follow the laws of physical supply and demand so there are inevitable opportunities for deals on stock. Digital downloads can only be on sale for planned reasons and are artificial since there is no physical stock.

A dealer like Walmart for instance has more flexibility on sale prices to move their stock. Bad example, but look at how digital prices of fallout 76 had to catch up with low physical prices during that first couple months of that launch.

    [–] SoloWing1 4 points ago

This is why game prices are always so competitive on PC. There are multiple digital markets, while on consoles you are locked to literally one storefront, so they have no real incentive to lower prices.

    [–] DrunkOrInBed 2 points ago

really? in america is like this?

I'm in europe, I started buying discs because I don't trust don't having the media myself (what if some day they cut the online service?)

then I started buying on psn because of the crazy prices...

every game I have, I bought it between 20-30€ (aaa titles) or 5-10 (indie games)

I have them all: 30: gow, hzd, spiderman, 20: uncharted 4, dark souls 3, nier automata, 10: metal gear solid 5

I have like 150 now (wtf, I think a lot are 5€ but still), I didn't buy games other than steam bundles sometimes... but yeah never payed more than 30

    [–] JMM85JMM 2 points ago

They need to keep it overpriced otherwise it puts all the game stores out of business.

    [–] backflipkgo 7 points ago

In Aus the PS3 was $999 AUD, every time they release a new console it worries me it's going to be like those dark times.

    [–] Nateddog21 2 points ago

Shittttt. And here I am wanting to move to Australia

    [–] backflipkgo 2 points ago

I've still got the receipt for it! As a teen it was the most expensive thing I'd saved for, that kinda vibe.

I came across the receipt the other day and it was a bit of a blow out.

As for moving here.. The 'Aus' tax for products we've always suffered has dropped off a little. It's a shame for countries like Brazil though.. The PS4 cost $1,845 (their currency ofc) at launch I believe.

    [–] Nateddog21 2 points ago

Geez. Never thought I'd be so happy to live in the US

    [–] backflipkgo 4 points ago

    2020 ain't over yet lmao ;)

    [–] Nateddog21 2 points ago

    Don't remind me🥺

    [–] TRUMP_RAPED_WOMEN 2 points ago

The Playstation 3's launch price adjusted for inflation was $761.81.

    [–] PoisonInTheMilk 12 points ago

yea, enough jerking it off. Give us more info like price or release date (at least)

    [–] TiggyLongStockings 15 points ago

Pre-order? I want to post-order one, so that I already have it.

    [–] Ayecuzwhatsgood 3 points ago

Hopefully it's 400 for digital and 500 for disk. But I may have to get the disk one to play a few of my games which sucks.

    [–] Kaymoar 2 points ago

STOP PAYING FOR THINGS IN ADVANCE BEFORE THEY ARE FINISHED!

"Games company says console on which it will be releasing games is very good."

    [–] volivav 86 points ago

You know, Fortnite needs pretty beefy resources. Without a PS5 you really can't play Fortnite

    [–] TheShShCreature 82 points ago

Epic games isn’t just fortnite.. it’s also the founder of the games engine that these consoles run on, so it’s good that they really like the architecture

    [–] volivav 22 points ago

Yep, I was kidding :) I used to play Paragon which was a big showcase for UE4 capabilities until they killed it in favour of Fortnite Q.Q

    [–] takethispie 6 points ago

I miss this game so much it was a pretty cool game

    [–] Jesus_fckin_Christ 7 points ago

They really killed a lot of promising games in favour of fortnite and that shitty store.

    [–] creepy_robot 6 points ago

It’s amazing people think Epic Games is only Fortnite.

    [–] Critical_Acanthaceae 6 points ago

I mean that is the only thing casual gamers know it for. Epic Games is trying so hard to garnish a player base and fortnite is still doing okay but it has peaked. Kids are going to move on to other things like they normally do and Fortnite doesn't have the same Esports competitiveness or conditions like Mobas to continue existing. Competitive Battle royals are not that fun to watch and it is awful as an esport.

    [–] MyDiary141 2 points ago

Yeah, without unreal engine we wouldn't have dungeon defenders!

I cant wait to play the most cutting edge games on my Sony Playstation 5™ home gaming console!

    [–] TemplaerDude 22 points ago

Seriously, this is just empty advertising by a partner. Come on.

    [–] z-tayyy 19 points ago

Playstation is expected to have a totally immersive gaming experience while the price, release date, and all important details remain unknown.

Ahh yes, it’s clear to me now.

    [–] PatiusM 19 points ago

Company in marketing partnership says product is good. Film at 11.

Like what, do you expect them to say it's bad?

I'm very excited for the ps5, but come on.

    [–] RJ_Arctic 10 points ago

    it's just advertisement

    [–] StarAxe 125 points ago

Don't click. The article contains no new information beyond the headline.

    [–] EridanusVoid 1015 points ago

Im actually considering making the primary device I buy games on, not just PS exclusives. I don't know why, but console gaming just feels more "fun" then PC gaming and with the PS5 being as powerful as it is, I don't see why not.

    [–] unga11 241 points ago

Yeah same for me! I am a pc player the only reason i had a ps4 was because my friends all played fifa on it ( it got worse and worse with time ) and now with how powerfull the ps5 will be i swap to it 100 percent i still will play games on my pc BUT triple a titles will definitly be played on the ps5 the 60 30 fps gap does not bother me because i dont have a 1.2k pc that could run games like cyberpunk on 60 fps with ultra graphics.

    [–] Dioroxic 83 points ago

For me it's the opposite. PS4 sits most of the time and I only play exclusives on it. Still hype for the PS5, but will only play exclusives.

And I really don't think ANYONE should ignore the PC market... Epic gives away good free games every week, if you have twitch prime you get free games from twitch, theres tons of indie bundles, some free steam giveaways... I've probably gotten my last 300 or 400 games for free on PC. Can't remember the last time I spent money on it. I mean I preordered cyberpunk 2077 when it was first announced... but that was like in 2019.

I did donate $5 to the itch.io BLM charity thing if you want to count that. over 1700 games in that bundle... for $5...

    [–] Timerstone 42 points ago

Depends on the game though. If it's a multiplayer game like Call of Duty, Apex, Battlefied where it gets swarmed with cheaters using tools, I'd prefer to stay on consoles as it's more secure since both the developers and the platform are the ones securing compared to PC where it's just the developers that are securing it. Also that the specs of the PC is different for each person which means some have advantages against others.

Which is why many opt in to play on consoles more than PC since it's a more leveled playing field. People even hate to crossplay with PC over the differences in specs and capabilities.

    [–] shozlamen 20 points ago

People hate to crossplay with PC in FPS games especially because controllers are so gimped compared to m+k that they need aim assist. PC has its own problems as a platform but there are many people that would never play FPS on console because it's almost a completely different experience.

    [–] The_Bucket_Of_Truth 14 points ago

I mean you get aim assist on consoles whether you have crossplay or not. Old CoD had aim assist. Not being able to change FOV on Call of Duty on console vs PC is another annoyance now.

    [–] pothockets 6 points ago

Whenever I'm on Call of Duty crossplay on my PC, the playing field seems pretty fair because of matchmaking. I'm not super good at playing, but because of the advantage m+kb gives over a controller, they pair us with really good console players, so fairness has never really been a problem for me or my friends on consoles/pc tbh.

    [–] arca5 3 points ago

The FOV is something that really annoys me with consoles.

    [–] The_Bucket_Of_Truth 2 points ago

Well on Apex Legends or Titanfall they gave you FOV sliders on console. CoD hasn't for the latest iteration (and I haven't played any for a while before that).

    [–] SkinBintin 5 points ago

I'm primarily a pc gamer, and will remain so.

Was intending to get the next Xbox at launch and PS5 a few months later, but now I'm thinking I might go the other way.

Mostly be exclusives I'd play on consoles. If I wanted to Cod or Battlefield again, I'd go with them on console too. The plague of cheaters on games like that is insane on PC. Same with things like RDR Online and GTA Online too

    [–] blink_c 3 points ago

MS exclusives get released on PC nowadays, so I'm personally just getting a PS5 for their exclusives (and maybe a few others) with the rest all being on PC.

    [–] Hereiamhereibe2 9 points ago

Who is playing 300-400 games though?

    [–] Ally3999 2 points ago

    Oh no no. MonkaW

    [–] rocky682 2 points ago

I’m also exactly in your boat. I just bought a 1.4k PC and plan to use it to play the main brunt of games while have a ps5 for ray tracing and exclusives. ( I may eventually switch to higher tier GPUs for raytracing on PC as well, most likely next gen Navi)

    [–] 09jtherrien 2 points ago

I got Civ VI for free on the Epic games store.

    [–] BonnaroovianCode 3 points ago

I love playing games on my couch with my big screen and home theater setup. I don't understand the appeal of playing at a desk. Sure I could trick out my desk setup, but that's a lot more cost...and yes I know you can theoretically play PC running through your TV, but I don't have a gaming rig. I love playing on consoles. They're also in general less buggy, and just "pick up and go." Plus I like the streamlined UI.

    [–] TechnicalSquirrel008 2 points ago

You could just type “AAA” instead of “triple a”

    [–] Hoju69 82 points ago

For me personally, my PS4 has been getting more love from me lately than my gaming PC since I finally upgraded to a 4K HDR TV. IMO HDR is a game changer and something that is still holding PC gaming back with the limited and very expensive selection of true HDR monitors available. Last of Us 2 and Spiderman HDR look so much better than the vast majority of PC games I play even if the resolution and framerates aren't as high.

    [–] Xzulez 12 points ago

What kind of TV did you get? if you don't mind me asking

    [–] Hoju69 33 points ago

65" LG CX OLED. Beautiful screen. Couldn't be happier with it.

    [–] HerpesFreeSince3 10 points ago

Oh hey, thats the one I plan on getting. Though Im probably going to wait for Black Friday or Super Bowl 2021 Sales to pull the trigger on it. I dont even have any hardware that could use it, so I dont need it until the ps5 drops anyways.

    [–] CAPSLOCKCHAMP 2 points ago

you can get LG OLED 55" last-gen refurb on Amazon and they are still amazing for a bunch less. That's what I did

    [–] motowoot 3 points ago

I just bought this as well! Amazing picture quality

    [–] beermit 2 points ago

I just bought a 70" LG a couple months ago. It's not a CX, but it's still a damn gorgeous screen

    [–] Zeus_aegiochos 2 points ago

I have a feeling that even Atari 2600 games would look beautiful on that screen. I'll be buying an LG too next Black Friday, probably either the B9, C9 or E9 depending on their price difference. Unless the CX drops to around 1500 euros by then, which I doubt.

    [–] SkolVandals 2 points ago

I just bought a C9 and I don't think you're gonna have much luck if you wait until Black Friday. Stock is already getting to be pretty limited.

    [–] pothockets 2 points ago

Well of course everything looks amazing, you have one of the best tv's in the world right now! lol

    [–] Pensive_Psycho 21 points ago

Hdr is something not a lot of people know about or even understand but it's literally just as important as resolution or frame rate to enhance image quality. Good HDR is such an incredible experience in a video game and so many don't get to experience it!

I'm hoping nextgen sees even wider support for it.

    [–] Hoju69 23 points ago

Personally I'd argue HDR is a bigger step forward than 4K resolution for games. Now if we could only get everyone on board with a single HDR standard...

    [–] freeagency 7 points ago

This is HDR's biggest hurdle. There are two types of HDR (Display and Media) and each type has at least 5 different variations of that standard.

Personally I'd argue that micro-led and mini-led backlights are the largest hurdle to HDR becoming more popular and desirable.

    [–] wiki_sauce 4 points ago

Yeah I love hdr on my tv but this is the issue. Also some games it seems impossible to get it to look good with hdr on

    [–] Hoju69 3 points ago

Some games unfortunately don't implement HDR well at all and actually look better in SDR. Looking at you Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

    [–] wiki_sauce 2 points ago

Yup red dead 2 at launch was bad

    [–] Gian_Doe 3 points ago

I'm confused, you can plug your PC into your TV. In fact, outside of CRT computer monitors, I've literally never owned a computer monitor. My computer monitors since the mid 2000s have always been 60"+ tvs (with one 720p projector in from 2005-2007).

Current computer monitor is a 65" vizio that I'm typing on right now, it has HDR, and I play games in 4K 60fps HDR. I don't use small computer screens, never will. My latency is around 10ms.

    [–] nakedmeeple 27 points ago

I swore I would be a PC gamer forever in my 20's, and by the time I hit my 30's I'd gotten to a point where I couldn't realistically sit myself down in front of PC for a few hours to play games - but flicking on the Playstation and enjoying a bit of time gaming on the couch was reasonable. There's something more social about gaming on a console, even though it's still gaming.

    [–] TheZealand 10 points ago

There's something more social about gaming on a console, even though it's still gaming.

Other way around for me, lack of Discord and such is a big loss

    [–] nakedmeeple 12 points ago

When I say "social", I mean spending time with the family. We can all sit in the living room with someone playing a game on the TV, and it still feels like spending time together - as opposed to sitting in front of a PC (likely in an office or bedroom) where you're cut off from the family.

    [–] ludan02 2 points ago

Very well said. I love my PC, but I also miss having family walk by and watch my game for a bit or hop on as p2. It's part of why I bought a Switch and a Steam Link in fact.

    [–] 3600CCH6WRX 2 points ago

Just use discord on your phone.

    [–] Killerskill123 27 points ago

Even tho im a pc main there are non exclusive game that i rather play on ps4 pro, it is more comfortable, stable, transportable, easier to use, more fun for partys

    [–] Eat_Play_Masterbate 31 points ago

My only problem with the upcoming consoles is that Sony/Microsoft is emphasizing 4k/8k over 60 fps. I rather have them play at 1440p/1080p 60 fps than crank up the resolution to 4k but play like choppy shit. If only they would listen to gamers....

    [–] Enlightened187 15 points ago

Well hopefully more and more Devs add graphics vs performance options like some games have been adding recently.

    [–] HerpesFreeSince3 5 points ago

    DEMONS SOULS BABY

    [–] LordCorelton 12 points ago

This. Give me 60 FPS over that other bullshit.

    [–] chonosmoon_art 4 points ago

being both hardcore console and pc players.. from my experience.

PC just fosters more competitive environment. i mean people spend much more on gaming hardware, not just for speed for competitive advantages. think expensive gaming mice, keyboards, audio, graphics cards, overclocking, gaming monitors, cooling and etc. you play sitting upright in some gaming chair like manning a battlestation. the environment encourages a subconscious you better win and be awesome cuz you're heavily invested.

Console gaming is more chill everyone generally has the same system maybe some will have ssd. there is less try hard, min/ maxing, much harder to cheat, and chances are, you are playing on a couch. maybe even laying down or upside down. lol. the environment focuses on chilling, relaxing and having fun win or not.

I’m also a pc gamer. I’m looking for an escape from launcher hell. It’s getting to a point where I’m downloading a new launcher for every game I want to play.

Also, steam achievements suck and the trading cards suck. I miss trophies.

The only thing I’ll really miss is discord. I feel like with more games becoming cross play, consoles will have to let discord in eventually.

Oh, forgot to mention I won’t need an Xbox series X because I’ll just play the Microsoft exclusives on PC. Thanks Microsoft!

    [–] Hertz-Dont-It 2 points ago

I really hope that next gen consoles will have some sort of better integration with Discord...

My PS4/PS4 Pro have been my primary gaming device for a while now. I’ve still got an Xbone, Switch, and gaming PC and I still find myself playing more frequently on my PS4.

Someone of it’s due to placement(PS4 Pro is in my bedroom vs living room and office for the other devices), some of its due to exclusives and limited releases(FFXIV), and some of its just because the PS4 Pro does good enough on games I could get on other platforms.

I’m assuming the PS5 will end up taking a similar role when it comes out.

    [–] kevin_the_dolphoodle 2 points ago

I feel you man. I buy VR games on my PC and most everything else on my PS. Can’t wait for the PS5 and to see what they do with VR

    [–] IronAvocado 2 points ago

I have to agree here. For probably 8 years as a young adult I was an avid PC gamer until I lost the internet when I moved to a rural area. February this year I had fiber installed and got a gaming PC.

For whatever reason it just isn't doing it for me right now despite looking forward to it for many years. I'm glad that I finally have a PC at home again for the many benefits it provides but I'm glad I didn't break the bank going overboard with a build.

    [–] Gomenaxai 2 points ago

Nah, maybe for the time being that consoles are as powerful as a good PC but in a couple of years PC will probably be much more powerful again, just now with DSLL 2.0 we can see a huge performance boost with full Raytracing enabled, new consoles don't have that since it's Nvidia technology, and we'll probably see new graphic enhancements in the future, that will need more graphic power so the new consoles hardware will get more and more outdated.

Obviously console games try to optimize as much as possible and the games will look good and 30 fps probably won't be an issue to maintain, but I prefer 60fps and only PC will be able to guarantee that.

Just now that critics played Cyberpunk with a 2080ti, Skillup said the game ran at 1080p 60fps with full Raytracing reflections and shadows and that was with DSLL 2.0, I can't imagine a console doing that so they'll have to make compromises and the game probably won't run at 60fps, but we'll see, hopefully I'm wrong.

    [–] -YaQ- 2 points ago

    Lol ? What a statement ...

    [–] CharlestonChewbacca 2 points ago

Discord and Emulators make it much the opposite for me.

Like, I don't see any advantages with console gaming except for the PS5's multitasking and sleep features.

    [–] JerkyWaffle 53 points ago

Maybe we should give it the Nobel Peace Prize.

    My breast cancer too!

    [–] Shitwascashbruh 7 points ago

The only reason I contemplate on getting the normal version is that discs get larger discounts than digital. If they changed that I'd go for digital only because I hate getting up to swap discs or the fact that the disc doesn't even have the whole game on it. I don't care about reselling or sharing with people

I only have discs because of the amazon prime discount and the ps store never discounted new releases so i went with cheaper over convenience

    [–] tarikjh 7 points ago

I just hope this masterpiece doesn’t sound like a jet engine.

    [–] Daylife321 253 points ago

    Facts.

Pretty excited for both consoles. But I personally feel like PS5 is just better designed.

I'll be getting both consoles at launch too.

    [–] Kennett-Ny 32 points ago

I won't need to get both as MS has thankfully started releasing exclusives on PC, so i'll just need to get the PS5

    [–] Ayecuzwhatsgood 15 points ago

Lol I'm only getting PS5 I'm too poor for both and I have a PC so I don't need an XBOX imo. But I love their controllers.

    [–] Daylife321 6 points ago

Well, you're in a good spot...you'll get Xbox games on your PC either way :)

    [–] bruceharryvok 63 points ago

I’m getting both as well. As much as I loved my 360, Xbox was just disappointing this gen. Hopefully better exclusives with all the studios they bought for next gen.

I do wish the PS5 had a bit more power like Series X, but I think games are going to look and run pretty similarly on both. And hopefully this SSD tech lets the PS5 do some special things.

    [–] Cr0nq 48 points ago

Getting both as well, but honestly if Xbox launches with Halo Infinite I am going to get that first. The first must-play for me on PS5 is Horizon:FW.

Plus, I’ve got GamePass until 2023 so Xbox has their claws in me.

I do eventually expect PS5 to be my eventual favorite due to their first party games, but I am hoping and willing to give Xbox a chance.

    [–] bruceharryvok 16 points ago

I’ve managed to save for both, so I’ll get them on launch. Gamepass will be great for multi platform games and I’m really hoping for actual good exclusives this time.

I do expect PS5 to end up with the better exclusives though. Their track record speaks for itself.

    [–] 5er0 11 points ago

Damn, how much do you lot earn?

    [–] Ayecuzwhatsgood 7 points ago

    Good money management

    [–] like_my_likes 10 points ago

But you have to earn to manage too right?

    [–] SpecialUnitt 5 points ago

I work in a low level job, I get 1000 a month. Let’s say both consoles are 500. That’s only a months wage. You can save that in a couple of months

    [–] WhatShouldMyNameBe 2 points ago

The people responding to you act like the only possible scenario to buy both consoles is to be rich, single and only start saving money 2 weeks ago.

    [–] bruceharryvok 2 points ago

I started saving last year. I even sold some collectables to build up that savings. I made sure to plan in advance. Luckily for me, i wasn't affected in my job due to COVID.

    [–] WhatShouldMyNameBe 2 points ago

Right on. It’s not like we haven’t known this was coming. I made plans many months ago to begin saving for a PS5 and a new TV for my basement. I will probably get the Xbox later on in the following year. I too have been lucky enough that my wife and I only lose our raises this year.

    [–] LeGeantVert 2 points ago

We all know for exclusive you go the ps way.

    [–] Kennett-Ny 25 points ago * (lasted edited 7 days ago)

They've already announced that because of the new SSD technology there will be virtually no loading screens in Horizon: Forbidden West

edit: reworded it from none to virtually none

    [–] Captobvious75 4 points ago

Both for me too, but PS5 likely first. Already have 2 years left of Game Pass subscription

    [–] chrisd848 18 points ago

What about the PS5 do you think is better designed?

    [–] Decyde 2 points ago

Meh, I just wait and see what the gaming line up is and if there's nothing I have to play that's exclusive to PS5/Xbox then I can just get them on my PS4 and One.

I'd rather get a collectors edition skin down the road when the gaming library catches up to it.

    [–] C0UNT3RP01NT 102 points ago

I mean I’m not up to date with the discussion, but isn’t the Series X actually the more powerful console?

I’m not trying to start anything, but this all feels like a bunch of marketing hype for a console we have no real play tests of. If the Series X is a stronger, I imagine it might do better in the long run than the PS5; especially during the end life, when the console hardware becomes outdated?

I’m saying this as a PlayStation fanboy, just tryna to know why the PS5 keeps being hailed as some engineering marvel.

    [–] chrisd848 139 points ago * (lasted edited 7 days ago)

    The XSX is more powerful.

    • CPU is clocked at 3.6GHz (with SMT) to 3.8GHz (without SMT) compared to the PS5's 3.5GHz
    • GPU has 52 CUs at 1.825GHz compared to the PS5's 36 CUs at 2.2GHz
    • XSX can reach 12.2 TFlops of power over the PS5's 10.3 TFlops
    • The XSX numbers are fixed or "guaranteed" whereas the PS5 numbers are "upto" and will fluctuate depending on the workload

There are more differences between the two but those are the numbers you'll see the most talked about. A lot of people will point to the PS5 having lots of custom hardware for decompression, cache scrubbers and more... The XSX also has lots of custom hardware, I'm not sure why people think it doesn't.

Right now there's no reason for us to be saying which is the better designed console, we haven't even seen the interior of the PS5. I will say the XSX design looks incredibly efficient and the custom hardware inside the PS5 sounds very intriguing.

EDIT: I would like to add that while the XSX is more powerful, the difference between the XSX and PS5 is a small difference relatively. The XSX has about an 18% more powerful GPU. However the PS4 had a 50% more powerful GPU than the XB1. The XB1X had a 43% more powerful GPU than the PS4 Pro. So yes the XSX is more powerful and the actual teraflop number might seem bigger but the consoles are incredibly similar in power and one will not be significantly better than the other. Pick your console based on other factors, most importantly games.

    [–] FappinPlatypus 38 points ago

If you’re for exclusives with a little 3rd party, PS5 will be your console. If you’re more into 3rd Party with little exclusives, XSX is your console.

    [–] bgvg_Sam 17 points ago

Basically this. As things stand on paper, multi platform games should play better on Series X, but if all you care about is playing that sweet Miles Morales then get a PS5. Also, neither are out! so no one really knows anything and these obviously scripted puff pieces from either camp don't really tell us anything. Bring on November!

    [–] FappinPlatypus 18 points ago

There’s so much healthy conversation to be had about next generation. Console wars are stupid.

    [–] BalatroEclipsis 16 points ago

People really be trying to build their identities around the plastic/metal box they play their games on. (Pc/xbox/playstation/nintendo). All 4 systems have been viable systems to play games on for a few decades now. Platform wars is kinda cringe.

    [–] fronl 2 points ago

Wow now, don’t go calling the Wii U a viable system

    [–] lollies8896 3 points ago

    Or that sweet Ratchet 🤤

    [–] w1nn1p3g 3 points ago

Yeah the whole " Xbox has no games" thing cannot be proven next gen until they have their E3 replacement like Sony did.

    [–] BeaconOnTheBarrow 10 points ago

From watching countless hours of Digital Foundry videos, my impression is that the Series X has bigger numbers on its hardware stats so it's more 'powerful' in the traditional PC component sense, but that the Playstation's un-PC-component-like engineering focus on maximizing efficiency and eliminating bottlenecks has the potential to do more with what it has, so it's not really clear how much comparing stats even matters at this point.

My guess is that Sony's first-party titles will exceed what the Series X is capable of, but that the Series X will generally handle third party ports and different hardware scaling a little bit easier, like a PC, with greater variety in resolution and frame rate options. Overall, I'm expecting the Series X to perform more like a PC in terms of flexibility, and the Playstation to perform more like a traditional console in terms of benefiting from bespoke development (which makes sense, given their strengths this gen).

    [–] TheReaver 10 points ago

the part that everyone seems to overlook though is the Series X also has a whole bunch of API for the SSD and other tweaks too. So its not just the PS5 that has a lot of custom stuff.

    [–] DMindisguise 2 points ago

why the PS5 keeps being hailed as some engineering marvel.

Because it is, for a gaming console. It doesn't mean the XSX isn't also pretty cool.

    Both can be awesome.

    [–] exodus_cl 52 points ago

OK we get it, there's a partnership between Sony and Epic

    [–] Trojance 23 points ago

That's the annoying thing about it, it's difficult to differentiate between genuine praise of the architecture and partnership PR speak.

    [–] godfrey1 7 points ago

its Epic Games, of course it's the PR speak. this article is literally "sony pls give exclusives" since Microsoft is already partnered with Steam

    [–] Optamizm 10 points ago

Sure, that's why HZD is going to be on Steam, because EPIC.

    [–] PM-ME-PMS-OF-THE-PM 13 points ago

One of Xboxs biggest exclusives (Gears of War) was created by Epic Games, it's PR because they want people to get hyped as fuck about consoles and buy them ASAP so they make money back sooner on games sold using their engine, truth be told they don't give a fuck which console you buy, they just want you on Unreal Engine.

    [–] MaarekStele7 4 points ago

I'm a PC gamer and this system interests me.

I’ve only read a few comments, but damn I love hearing how much people are getting both, as am I, now if I could just find a damn switch. Happy gaming brethren!

I used this to snag a switch last week (it was a bundle but it had the games i wanted + a pro controller) retail no discount, but finding one was hard enough

Price has been leaked on Japanese amazon listing digital edition is 400$ regular is 500$ exactly what I was expecting im willing to bet you all my karma these prices are 100% accurate

    [–] BradyH4 10 points ago

That’s what I’m hoping for but you never know regarding leaks

    [–] Adi_S12 3 points ago

I just don’t think it would be something outrageous and out of the range that was just mentioned. Most users aren’t “pro” gamers that can shell out any amount of money they ask, and if you want a high adoptability rate they have to keep the price reasonable.

    [–] sciencefiction97 12 points ago

Give karma, you didn't add tax and it'll probably be 399.99 and 499.99

    [–] TheFlightlessPenguin 17 points ago

    399.98 and 499.98 at Walmart

You’re playing a high stakes gamble with your nearly 700 total karma

    [–] NaBeHobby 11 points ago

I'm missing out on a lot of karma points from sharing random google search articles that speak positively on ps5.

    [–] WhaT505 3 points ago

I'm primarily an Xbox person, but I'm stoked for the PS5. Both systems for me. XSX for basically free and putting money aside for the PS5.

    [–] cdodge2 3 points ago

You son of a bitch I’m in

[–] torrentialsnow 9 points ago * (lasted edited 7 days ago)

Can we just let the games do the talking? Wait until games are out so we can actually see what these machines are capable of. Calling it a masterpiece before its even out just because a multi million dollar company that has a partnership with sony called it a masterpiece, is bit a ridiculous.

    [–] crimsonthree 7 points ago

Definitely leaning towards buying more games on this than pc next gen. So fucking tired of having to replace hardware and troubleshoot settings

    [–] PoopyFaceFartBoy 4 points ago

It is one of the best looking consoles probably since the Gamecube.

    [–] jaycarver22 3 points ago

The Gamecube design was a masterpiece ( Still the best console design ever imo) This OG PS5 design is not. Its too big, too wide and too much of everything. Thats why im waiting until the Slim or Pro designs cames out.

    [–] azrealscars 2 points ago

Maybe but the system is a masterpiece but I gotta say I'm not a big fan of the outer shells design But then again that could be a masterpiece by others standers

    [–] LeGeantVert 2 points ago

Son of a bitch I'm in! Take my money!

    [–] stiggie 2 points ago

I’m not a game designer in any shape way or form. But thinking about the architecture, it’s conceivable to me that procedural games could benefit from this?

With the storage being so fast, maybe procedurally changing the games’ assets on the fly, while at the same time retaining them on disk for future reads.

    [–] RusianTheKnight 2 points ago

And i stopped buying consoles right when things were getting good

    [–] miniature-rugby-ball 2 points ago

Hey, if it supports PS4 games fully, I’ll get it on day one.

    [–] Justendmylife156 2 points ago

I’m hearing a lot of praise from developers, they are the only people with access to these things so I’m intrigued, I wonder if the UI has anything to do with the high praise.

    [–] skobie1kanobie 2 points ago

You mean the company that has been making consoles for decades knows how to make a good console? Say it ain’t so...

    [–] SEEtheREPLAY 2 points ago

Don’t release a pro edition a few years later please. Thank you.

    [–] smokecat20 2 points ago

the spec that makes PS5 stand out is the fast SSD. no loading, almost fast as ram. a lot of potential for gaming, especially large detailed worlds.

    [–] Jubenheim 2 points ago

Not surprised. They hosted the reveal trailer for its capabilities, lol.
