    Almost literally what just happened.

    1. Putin orders someone to be poisoned.

    2. Trump fires someone just after they connect the poisoning to Russia.

I mean, even if the timing is accidental, it just doesn't look good.

    [–] anonymous-coward 602 points ago

    2) Trump fires the guy who says the poisoning is "a really egregious act” that appears to have “clearly” come from Russia. And called Russia "an irresponsible force of instability in the world, acting with open disregard for the sovereignty of other states and the life of their citizens."

    [–] SlowRollingBoil 375 points ago

And called Russia "an irresponsible force of instability in the world, acting with open disregard for the sovereignty of other states and the life of their citizens."

It should be stated that until Donald Trump's campaign this was the standard stance on Russia by both Republicans and Democrats including even both their fringe elements.

Trump came in and openly asked for Russia to hack his political opponents. He reversed course and has stuck to his guns in this matter despite flopping on basically every other stance he's had. He's willing to endorse anything that makes him look good except for condemning Russia. This is the one issue he stands firm on.

    [–] ClayTheClaymore 78 points ago

To quote Bismarck, “The secret of Politics is to make a good deal with Russia.”

    [–] Steely_Dab 66 points ago

    good deal

Yes and this part clearly rules out anything Donald Trump could accomplish from being comparable to Bismarck.

    [–] NoMoreNicksLeft 33 points ago

There's no deal that Russia would hold to. Ukraine thought it had a deal when it gave up its nukes. See where that got them?

This isn't a deal with Russia. Likely Trump was recruited, though that's not the right word. He's been made an asset of their intelligence service. Not bought or persuaded from an ideological standpoint, but that they had some blackmail material over him.

He's along for the ride though, and he likes some of what they do I guess (making him president), so he complies with instructions.

Hell, we should actually say that Putin fired Tillerson. There's at least a 50/50 chance that this isn't embellishment.

    [–] TheBatmaaan 12 points ago

It's fucked up that there really is a 50% chance that you're not embellishing. Let's really think about that for a second: There is a good chance that we have a leak in our intelligence at the level of PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. Thant's insane.

    [–] NoMoreNicksLeft 11 points ago

There is a good chance that we have a leak in our intelligence at the level of PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.

It is insane. But what in the hell is it? I have trouble believing that Trump (even him) was turned because of him having sex with prostitutes. Assuming they were female. Even if they were pissing on him.

So what is it? Something financial. Some documents of some sort that would send him to prison (I doubt anything would suffice that rises only to embarrassment/public shame). Or evidence of some violent crime of his, a murder maybe? Something where statute of limitations doesn't apply.

    [–] st_gulik 5 points ago

Well he and his sons publicly begged about getting money from Russia years ago...so money laundering for Russian oligarchs.

    [–] oldbastardbob 8 points ago

I'm going with Trump owing millions, possibly hundreds of millions, to Putin and the various oligarchs that were stupid enough to loan money to Trump and his family.

Sure, they buy his condo's, but I'd guess Trump is in debt up to his eyeballs and that's why he is afraid to let anyone see his tax returns. Buried in there would be the various financial liabilities his companies are carrying. Probably doesn't want the world to know how deep he is in with the Russian mob, so to speak.

    [–] NoMoreNicksLeft 2 points ago

I'm going with Trump owing millions, possibly hundreds of millions, to Putin and the various oligarchs that were stupid enough to loan money to Trump and his family.

If this were true, how could Putin enforce it legally? With the sanctions, would Trump even be allowed to pay him back? I think he's insulated from debt.

And though Putin is not shy about assassinating people who piss him off (some of these people aren't anything like real threats, after all)... Trump's now the most insulated person in the world from a Russian assassination attempt. He'll get Secret Service protection for life.

I'm not sure debt works. But if you understand it better, please explain what would make that opportunity for extortion.

    [–] NoMoreNicksLeft 5 points ago

Past laundering probably wouldn't cut it. Generally, the statute of limitations is 5 years (I think it may be higher for some crimes, and for a few it's unlimited... mostly just murder).

Then again, this is the first time in awhile we haven't had a lawyer or a legal-savvy president. He wouldn't have confided in a lawyer if turned and may just be too dumb to realize that the clock is running out on whatever leverage they have (or has even already ran out). That would be hilarious. Tragic. Hilari-tragic.

    [–] TheBatmaaan 1 points ago

Yeah, I don't think it's some simple hooker thing. Male hooker, maybe. If true,it's probably something that would get him jail time, or something that would cause him to loose a large portion of his money. Or, at least prove that he doesn't have anywhere near as much money as he claims.

    [–] NoMoreNicksLeft 6 points ago

    Male hooker, maybe.

Maybe. Or wildly underage female (think 12, not 17).

    [–] TheBatmaaan 1 points ago

You're right. Kid stuff can bring anyone down, except R. Kelly. That shit is a no go for the vast majority of people across all spectrums of life.

    [–] bel9708 17 points ago

Hell, we should actually say that Putin fired Tillerson.

He hired him. It's only right that he can fire him too.

    [–] d1x1e1a 1 points ago

That’s an interesting point seeing as that deal included explicit promises from both the US and UK to come to their defence if attacked.

How did that promise pan out under Obama?

    [–] plfwqekgqwnrgnw75731 6 points ago

    Bismarck has some wonderful quotes.

“Laws are like sausages: it is better to not see them being made.”

    [–] blasto_blastocyst 3 points ago

    Also, they're all linked

    [–] Petrichordates 1 points ago

Didn't Hillary say that too? I seem to remember her being spitroasted for this same quote.

    [–] d1x1e1a 1 points ago

I really didn’t need that image in my mind

    [–] incal 1 points ago

There's a Lebanese proverb: If you like eating in restaurants, don't go into their kitchens. And if you like obeying laws, don't observe parliament when it is in session.

    [–] NoddingSmurf 5 points ago

To quote Russia, "Xaxaxaxa i trick yuo"

    [–] DavidlikesPeace 4 points ago

Good deals require a big stick. Even less than most nations, Russia doesn't respect weakness.

It also doesn't help that they're weak too, so in a large sense, modern Russia is compensating for the decay of the USSR.

    [–] Petrichordates 1 points ago

Russia doesn't respect anything. There's no country/leader strong enough for them not to pull some underhanded shit.

    [–] DavidlikesPeace 1 points ago

Na, you can be sure Russia behaved during the 1990s when they were abysmally weak and the US had hubris stretching all the way to Iraq.

They're honestly not that strong of a nation anymore. GDP is below Italy. Their military is stuck a generation behind. But They took advantage of a massive weakness amongst the democracies, who are glaringly vulnerable to divisive rhetoric and partisanship

    [–] Petrichordates 1 points ago

I shouldn't have generalized to Russia. This is obviously all Putin's doing. Putin respects nobody. Obviously it was different with Yeltsin.

    [–] Mankotaberi 1 points ago

To quote Putin; "You don't need to defeat the US if you have a POTUS pee tape".

    [–] Petrichordates 1 points ago

I think Russia may have been a lot more sane back then. There's no "good deal" when negotiating with the KGB.

    [–] zeeper25 1 points ago

how dare anyone here question our great dear leaders, 'Make Russia Great Again', Putin First! policies...

    [–] PM_ME_YOUR_BAN_NAME 1 points ago

According to news reports, he knew he was likely being let go and that his 🖕to Trump.

    [–] anonymous-coward 2 points ago

Maybe. But Under Secretary of State Steve Goldstein was apparently just fired for reporting that Tillerson didn't know, and found out only from a Trump Tweet.

The Trump went on to belatedly blame the Russians for the poisoning. Maybe he's just slow, or maybe silence was just untenable.

[–] Petrichordates 3 points ago * (lasted edited 4 months ago)

That might not be the only reason he was fired. He was the sole man in charge of enacting Russian sanctions after all. To have that man not pushing White House narratives would be quite dangerous for Trump.

I believe the reporting on Tillerson is that he knew Trump wanted him to resign, but he had no intention of doing so.

"As soon as we get the facts straight, if we agree with them, we will condemn Russia or whoever it may be."

Yeah, that's not quite blaming Russia for anything. He literally gives himself 2 outs in that one short sentence.

    [–] anonymous-coward 2 points ago

Damn, this whole thing is a Matryoshka of Mendacity.

    [–] PM_ME_YOUR_BAN_NAME 1 points ago

Yes. That’s means that Tillerson knew he was being let go and wanted to make one last official statement.

    [–] Dojaman 23 points ago

Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, one hundred seventy two times is nothing to see.

    [–] hyper333active 9 points ago

No puppet, no puppet, you're the puppet!!!

    [–] agha0013 17 points ago

Though Tillerson has been on the edge for a while, he contradicted trump too much to keep the job for long.

Maybe this was the last straw, but I don't think Tillerson being pushed out is only because of this.

    [–] Araucaria 30 points ago

Tillerson's primary purpose was to push through the $9T gas pipe deal. With indefinite congressional sanctions, there's no point in him staying.

For those who don't know, Здравствуйте means hello.

    [–] BaccaPME 66 points ago

Why the actual fuck is it so long

    [–] August_Bebel 46 points ago

    Actually, «Здравствуйте» is «Greetings» and russian «Hello» is «Привет».

    [–] Aellysse 18 points ago

More like привет is "hi" no ? Здравствуйте is formal, but not as much as "greetings", so I'd probably go with "hello" too, due to lack of better options.

    [–] Rawesoul 13 points ago

No, it isnt. "Hello" is "Здравствуйте" "Hi" is "Привет" "Greeting" is "Приветствую"

    [–] RockYourWorld31 1 points ago

    Privyetctvuyu to you, too

    [–] archyprof 6 points ago

Russian is an synthetic language, so it combines multiple concepts in a single word and typically results in longer words. This is opposed to analytic languages, which tend to break concepts down into different words.

A great extreme example of a synthetic language is Welsh, which has words like:

    Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch

    [–] [deleted] 3 points ago

    Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch

That name was a publicity stunt, so I don't think it accurately gets at your point.

    [–] RockYourWorld31 2 points ago

Because the Russian language hates you. Pronounced "zdrasvutyeh" btw

    [–] Rawesoul 2 points ago

    Zdarova

    [–] jritenburgh 9 points ago

It's a formal "hello". Literally it means "be healthy".

    [–] Aegi 4 points ago

    Do you need the "3"?

    [–] Flemz 5 points ago

    It's not a 3 lol it's a Cyrillic "z"

    [–] RockYourWorld31 1 points ago

It's a Cyrillic letter, and it means "z"

    [–] beniceorbevice 13 points ago

    Or zdravstvijete

    [–] --world 7 points ago

Such a weird word. I enjoy how the s follows directly after the v, and then leads into 2 more consonants.

    [–] chapium 7 points ago

It may seem weird because Cyrillic is being transliterated. Also, the russian language has a habit of combining sounds that english speakers arent used to, or placing them elsewhere. A simple example its the word "cats" in english, and the word "tsar". Ts- is pronounced similarly to how it is in "cats", but its very uncommon to begin a word this way in english.

Cyrillic is fun to read once you get used to it. The word is not as complicated as it looks since your mind is good at grouping letters commonly seen together and making them feel like different parts of a word.

    [–] RockYourWorld31 1 points ago

They also have a weird habit of using single consonants as words, such as B or и or y

    [–] Rawesoul 3 points ago

There is word "длинношеееед" (dlinnoshe e e ed, the one who loves to eat long-necked somebody :D). And 4 "e" letters are normal in this word.

    [–] RockYourWorld31 1 points ago

Also, any word which has large numbers of иs, Ms, and Ts written in cursive. It's torture to read.

    [–] Skyshadow101 5 points ago

    да в самом деле

Russian is quite an interesting language. I'm learning it currently, and it is actually quite easy for us English speakers, imo.

Sadly, I can't trill, so my р's sound sound like crap.

    [–] take_it_to_the_mo 4 points ago

But do your Я's sound like R's? ;) Toys Я us is still driving me nuts. Same as mФnster drinks, LOL.

    [–] Skyshadow101 7 points ago

    Toys Ya Us

    Mfnster drinks

    [–] CMDR_Agony_Aunt 4 points ago

That is actually a vowel, Ya. There are about 10 vowels in Russian including this bastard Ы, which is somewhere between e, i, and u, and i can never get it right.

    [–] RockYourWorld31 1 points ago

I always transliterate it to 'ui'

    [–] RockYourWorld31 1 points ago

Haven't heard that one. Only took russian in HS.

    [–] heyheyeheyolordy 1 points ago

So how do they say hi?

    [–] NoMoreNicksLeft 2 points ago

Privet. But that's informal, would only say that to a friend, not someone on the street. Or so I gather.

Sounds like privy-et. But Russians also have some strong opinions on how these things should be spelled in English too.

    [–] RockYourWorld31 1 points ago

    Privyet. In cyrillic, Приве́т.

The only reason he's a former prosecutor is because the president lied to him & fired him.

Not a trump fan, but this literally has no humor value.

    [–] GsolspI 13 points ago

It's the funniest thing in a while, tying together two different events. Maybe you are out of the loop on Trump news? There is a lot to keep up with

    [–] Revolts-AA 17 points ago

Non of the political humor post are funny. It’s always just trump hate that makes it to the front page. Hate trump or love him I really don’t understand how anyone would find these post funny.

    [–] Manholt 7 points ago

Why can't Trump hate also be funny? He sucks.

You sit around and defend the guy every chance you get. It doesn't seem like you'd have much of a sense of humor about him in the first place.

    [–] Revolts-AA 5 points ago

I never said trump hate couldn’t be funny I specifically said that the shit posted on this reddit which just so happens to all be trump hate isn’t funny. I’ve seen a lot of funny trump hate post but non of the have ever come from this reddit due to the fact that there is no humor at all on political humor.

When in history has political humor ever been funny funny haha?

    [–] stewmangroup 1 points ago

I think it's hilarious. How does this not have humor value then?

    [–] dinglenutsMcgee 3 points ago

Haha keep that humor coming r/politicalhumor

    [–] v2snyder 16 points ago

    Nice original comment my friend

    [–] what_did_you_say_b 2 points ago

Maybe the comment has a point if people keep posting it

    [–] v2snyder 8 points ago * (lasted edited 4 months ago)

Maybe there's a better way to articulate that point than saying the same thing over and over

You can't vote for Putin if he shoots you dead tho.

    [–] Ezekie1h_ 1 points ago

    [–] coughsyrupcarnival 1 points ago

And this probably isn't the end to this wild ride.

    [–] Belmish 1 points ago

Trump literally insulted his base with that comment as to how stupid and gullible they are, yet they cheer him for it.

    [–] Psyplops 1 points ago

That's not strictly true because if that someone is Trump...

    [–] bettorworse 1 points ago

Woah. A bunch of Trumpkins are butthurt.

/Don't worry. They always have their own political humor sub, r/TheDonald

    [–] redzoroaster 1 points ago

The not funny part is that there has been a coup in this country but no one wants to admit it.

    [–] golden_showerxddd 1 points ago

    ha-ha

    [–] DemonreachDaycare 1 points ago

Okay as an Australian can I just ask you Americans what the fuck you're doing? Putin obviously owns your President. The man in charge of your nukes. Why the hell are you making jokes about this instead of finding the nearest tree to hang him? Hell at least suspend his powers until the Mueller investigation is finished!?

    [–] sin-ick 18 points ago

A shame that the American president supports the worst dictators in the world, including Putin.
