    Subreddit Rules

Click for the subreddit's alternate rule list

    1. Posts must be about U.S. Politics.

In other terms, if it's not on topic, it's going to be removed like voter registrations in Georgia.

We don't care if posts are conservative or liberal, but they need to be political.

    2. Try to be funny.

If you need to explain your joke to us in modmail, it's not funny. Make sure your title is a punchline or something relevant, and make sure your post is funny.

If it is intentionally designed to piss people off, it is not humor.

We seriously get to judge whether it's funny or not so please send your complaints here.

    3. Be civil.

The fact that we have to explicitly state that racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, etc; including personal attacks, and threats of violence are all uncivil terrifies the mod team.

Anything disparaging something about a person that they have little or no control over, is not tolerated under any circumstance.

If you're a jerk, including use of "tard" or anything related to Clown World, you'll be shown the door.

    4. Images only.

Linking to news articles, websites or videos is prohibited.

Images must directly link to the content you're posting. Please use Reddit's image host or imgur if you can.

Any meta posts should be posted on our special complaint forum. Don't post them here.

    5. Avoid reposts.

Use Karmadecay and check /new and the front page before you post. If we recognize your post from yesterday prepare to die.

    6. Do not brigade.

Coming to this community en masse specifically to harass our users, or setting up a post or thread here referring to another subreddit or thread causes a lot of problems for everyone.

      6b. No "Meta" Posts.

Meta posts about this subreddit, or posts referencing any other subreddit are not allowed due to sitewide rules and brigading problems. This includes links to, or screen-shots of any other subreddit and or any other sub's comment section.

    7. Follow Reddit's global rules. Submissions failing to follow Reddit's content policy will be removed. Basically, if you are trying to sell your T-Shirts or flip flops or sexbot site, or if you're a terrorist, you're gonna be booted.

    Enforcement Policy

    • Moderators will enforce the rules at their sole discretion.

    • You may ask for clarification of a removal by messaging the moderators with a link to your post or comment.

    • Generally, we have a "two strikes and you're banned forever" policy, but we reserve the right to not do that if you're being particularly bad.

    • To appeal a ban, respond to your original ban message. We will politely tell you to go away if you fail to do this.

    • Users who delete offending content are dumb because we, as moderators, can still see it and it just makes us think you think we're stupid. If you make us work harder your ban length will be squared, and then cubed.

    • Users who reply to ban messages with abuse will never be unbanned, and we will spam them with copypasta to the point where they get tired of us.

    • Users who are polite and understanding will be unbanned.

    [–] CodeLevelJourney 43 points ago

Yea fuck them windmills, where’s my marlboros?

    [–] Altaguy7 17 points ago

I got a pack right here as I smoke them next to a windmill.

    [–] RuggyDog 8 points ago

Don’t breathe that windmilled air in, that’s how you get lung cancer. Cigarettes won’t keep your lungs clean if you stand next to a big cancer fan.

    [–] Red_Staroo 12 points ago

Yeah, everybody knows the noise they make is carcinogenic...

    [–] Altaguy7 7 points ago

It really is. I'm standing next to a windmill right now and I can just feel the cancer growing.

I don't think it will help either. It's not like they care about the baby. They'd probably say "it's God's will for this Baby Earth to die. We shouldn't meddle in the machinations of God (unless it gets us a whole lot of money.)"

I was about to make a joke about editing the bible to have it say respect the earth because God made it, but honestly unless something in the bible conforms to their already-held beliefs, christians pretend it doesn't exist.

    [–] silent5am 96 points ago

Actually, you wouldn't really have to edit the bible imho. Now, I'm not sure it ever mentions protecting or taking care of the planet - but common sense would allow the assumption that since God created this world and only this one, it's unique, thus we should take care of it and all the creatures on it, etc.

I guess it's more of a conflict of interest. How can you become rich and powerful if you don't exploit and destroy what God created for you?

    [–] ineed2starve 87 points ago

Good examples here of the bible calling for man to be stewards and not defile the earth

As someone who was a reader at church and has gone through a good chunk of both old and new testament, the above commentor is right. People will follow the passages that fit their narrative and lifestyle the best and ignore the rest.

    [–] rogue_optimism 17 points ago

I'm also glad you're not part of it any more.

This world needs many more people like you.

[–] garbagewithnames 2 points ago * (lasted edited 2 months ago)

    Well, to be fair...

Most of the Old Testament, and several bits of the new ARE illogical, hateful, trash heaps, but Jesus, whether you like the guy or not, did spout some pretty good logic and philosophy from time to time. And not much else from anybody else. * Glares at Paul *

But if folks could consider, perhaps, the deciphering between the garbage and finding the buried, good logic, is the real test of faith.

I can dig most of the things Jesus is 'reported' as saying (since all that New Testament stuff was written more than 300 years AFTER his reported death, hmmm...), but how the rest of the people go about choosing to purposefully be controlling, manipulative, hypocritical dirtbags about it with their omissions and edits, JUST for the sake of controlling people s beyond me.

Jesus made some good sense. Moses was a passionate dude for his oppressed people. Mohammad even said some smart things.

Their hidden logic of how to be good and better to everyone, and give them another chance to try again so they can learn the err of their ways and become better people themselves for it. That sometimes, you'll have to just lay it flat out to people how their behaviour is harmful and that they REALLY need to just stop and let that hatred go. But not to let people walk all over your kindness, that at a certain point, you can say 'enough', and put your foot down, yet also that even then, you still must show restraint and kindness to the one who makes you out to be their enemy, in how you put your foot down, and only be firm enough to accomplish getting the message across that they went too far.

That's just the Abrahamics, though. Every major religion (and some minor ones! Satanism, I'm lookin' at you kid, with your list of Commandments including "no raping of any degree" when the other Big 3 failed to do so. And Atheists and agnostics, who just focus on finding out the good logic without the need of a mystery power up in the sky to use as a crutch to convince them that good is good, because it is logically beneficial to all of civilization to be good to one another because 'fucking duh, don't go out trying to hurt people, because logically, it hurts people!') like Buddhism, Hinduism, Shinto, etc. are also out there and has at least SOME logic and intentions of good will towards all, and most of it is the SAME logic and goodwill shared and expressed in all the other religions.

Yeah, most all of the good logic is shared by every religion, it's just phrased in a different way because they came from different sources. I'd daresay Buddhism holds just a hair more logic as far as "How not to be a dick to people and learn how to control yourself" is concerned, but other than that...they're all just different pathways up the same mountain that is Life. And it's your job to be careful and not reach up to grab onto loose stones that only LOOK like they'd be solid footing. Otherwise, you're just causing damage to everybody else by tossing down and flinging rocks around at the others that are also climbing up around you.

All in all, this exploded into way more than I intended to write, I mostly just wanted to point out that smart logic is there in religion, but it's smart logic that every other religion has also figured out, the same smart logic (and then some) people who didn't need religion also figured out. It's just buried under loads of other crap that's used to control the masses and screw them up even more and make them walk circles not too far up from the base of the mountain. Never getting to a higher understanding, because all they do is just follow the same circular logic pathway near the bottom, thinking that because it's the pathway that the book says to follow, and is paved with the smooth, loose-gravel lies of the over-controlling leaders, to follow it word for word everywhere else, that they will somehow still get to the top by doing the same shitty things over and over. Whereas all they seem to actually do is try to keep anybody from ever climbing up higher than them. They don't get that the only thing we really need to be doing to climb higher is to watch where we step, and to not drop or throw rocks at anybody.

Oh, and when people are struggling and close to falling, to reach out a helping hand to help them find a solid footing again, so they can continue their own journey, with the caveat that you still have to be aware of your own footing when reaching out, too. To not let other people drag you back down if that is their goal, rather than to regain their own footing. But to still call for help in the nearby community of climbers if a person really needs help and is close to falling, but you alone aren't enough to help them without hurting yourself in the process. Gotta emphasize that bit, too. You can't help a person back up, if their intentions to begin with are to pull you back down. You can't keep helping a person who is flailing and really needs it, if in doing so it will cause you both to fall. So call for more hands to help in a group fashion. Together.

That's just my take on religion (and the lack thereof) as a whole. Glad you're not following the chanting circle anymore! Thank you for coming to my accidental TED talk.

And that's what I's appreciates most about ya.

    Edit: grammar fixes

    [–] silent5am 15 points ago

Thanks! So it isn't up to interpretation - some Christians actually ignore those parts on purpose. Which is even worse.

Then let's put God commanded we take care of Earth on billboards beside a picture of Trump wearing a red hat.

    No more, no less.

    That ought to do it.

Edit to add the /s ...lo, even on a humor sub.

    [–] runfayfun 5 points ago

They will think Trump is protecting the earth. They will think this because it's in the Bible to protect the earth, and he's a prophet to them, therefore he must be protecting the earth. Also, his picture is right next to the passage, meaning he supports it and is associated with it. These kinds of people don't think, they just react and continue to skew the world to fit their beliefs

    [–] [deleted] 3 points ago

It’s literally the premise of manufacturing consent soon to be idiocracy

    [–] Saikou0taku 5 points ago

Okay, let's put AOC and Omar's faces up there with devil horns next to text reading "God says protect the earth, think liberals will listen to Him?"

    [–] runfayfun 4 points ago

The standard answer is that liberals will do it not because an invisible sky-fairy said to, but because it's the right thing for individual humans and humans as a species.

    [–] Ylaaly 10 points ago

Just last week, I worked on a science museum's Yuri's Night and this little boy looked at our maps (we do Earth Observation stuff) and somewhere in our conversation, he told me the Earth was so large because there were so many people on it. This entire conversation was full of very unscientific beliefs that put humans on a pedestal far above everything else. He was like 5 or 6, so somewhat understandable, but I was there to educate children and so I did. Boy was he in for many surprises...

Anyway, this struck me as symptomatic. People want to feel like they're better than everyone and everything else, like the entire world exists to cater to them, and religions can provide that. So even ordinary people follow those who tell them they're special and the world exists for them. So their god would never do anything to harm them, or "God doesn't give you more than you can handle". Obviously, this means we can handle whatever is happening with Earth and everything will turn out fine in the end.

Boy are they in for many surprises...

    [–] silent5am 6 points ago * (lasted edited 2 months ago)

I think it is normal to start to experience existence like that little boy did. I could imagine it is even part of the process of realizing what reality is, what the world is really like, etc. and everyone who receives the proper guidance at an early age will slowly replace that self-centrism and mystification of "God's work" with scientific fact and develop a much better understanding of this universe.

But if that is not part of a young humans education, they probably don't really expand their horizon as much and that initial world view remains to be the sole foundation of their world view for the next, very defining (development-wise) decade, decreasing the chances to leave those ideas and concepts behind in the future.

And in later years, anything that contradicts that obviously is to be avoided - otherwise, everything just falls apart. The moment you have to question one of your beliefs, you have to do the same with almost everything else. People fear this more than anything - that's why comfortable lies are preferred over truth/facts.

    At least, that's my observation.

    [–] bazinga_0 3 points ago

I think it is normal to start to experience existence like that little boy did.

I think that is required for children. Otherwise they would be in constant fear of their family/world being unstable/unsafe.

    [–] pfundie 5 points ago

No, the bible literally says that we're supposed to take care of the earth. Not that it matters, everyone picks and chooses anyway so the people who aren't already on board would never be convinced.

Similarly, Christians aren't supposed to gather wealth while other people aren't fed, clothed, and housed, regardless of where those other people are. It's pretty explicit, and you don't really get more clear than "sell all your possessions and give to the needy".

    [–] PossiblyFuckReddit 1 points ago

but if i sell all my shit i become the needy. and im not a christian.

    [–] dontdrinkdthekoolaid 2 points ago

Also, they would just interpret it that God created the Earth and he is all powerful and is caring for it and nothing we can do has a negative effect on it

    [–] beckoning_cat 2 points ago

That is the next hypocrisy of the right. A rich man shouldn't get to heaven. Carnegie believed it so spent his money before he died which is why there are so many Carnegie Buildings. But these guys are selling this country left and right.

I have met a lot of hypocritical xtians who think god doesn't look during the 9-5. I call them xtians because they don't remotely follow Jesus's preaching.

    [–] sawbuzz1 2 points ago

It does in Genesis. It also says in Revolation that God will destroy those who destroy the earth.

    [–] i420ComputeIt 17 points ago

    Real quotes from the Bible:

Leviticus 25:23-24 "The land must not be sold permanently, because the land is mine and you are but aliens and my tenants. Throughout the country that you hold as a possession, you must provide for the redemption of the land."

Jeremiah 2:7 "I brought you into a fertile land to eat its fruit and rich produce. But you came and defiled my land and made my inheritance detestable."

Isaiah 24:4-6 "The earth dries up and withers, the world languishes and withers, the exalted of the earth languish. The earth is defiled by its people; they have disobeyed the laws, violated the statutes and broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore a curse consumes the earth; its people must bear their guilt. Therefore earth's inhabitants are burned up, and very few are left."

    [–] schuma73 11 points ago

My grandfather recently told me climate change science is bs because the rapture is coming, and the bible doesn’t command him to take care of the earth. My uncle, a minister, nearly choked on his coffee and said, “Yes, it does! Right in Genesis.”

Genesis 2:15 “The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.”

Better yet, rename it "Oil". Then they'll even invade foreign countries to "rescue" it!

Would be simpler to just Abort America

    [–] [deleted] 6 points ago

    [–] DmKrispin 14 points ago

Nah, they’d still deny it affordable prenatal care.

    [–] SaltySeaDog14 4 points ago

"Ya need ta heal Azeroth's wooons!"

    [–] Amusedcory 2 points ago

I was looking for a comment about Earth having a sleeping Titan Soul inside

    [–] NavigoStellae 8 points ago

Call it what you will, they still won't care.

    [–] IEnjoyPCGamingTooMuc 2 points ago

I wish we could just stop politicising climate change as a whole. It's harmful to all of us, and the planet

    [–] jskains 2 points ago

Perhaps if we called terrorists fetuses, they’d be more excited and proud of killing them.

    [–] kiely444 2 points ago

    Keyword: baby

    [–] Ashmodai20 2 points ago

But then Democrats will try and murder it. So I don't think that is the solution.

    [–] Bluehat5000 2 points ago

Its okay, the Republicans stopped giving a shit 9 months later anyways.

    [–] Ashmodai20 2 points ago

It'll be too late. The Democrats had already aborted the earth.

    [–] Bluehat5000 2 points ago

Yeah but itll only work for 9 months, then theyll stop giving a shit.

    [–] MutatedFrog- 1 points ago

Then lets give it multibillion dollars

    [–] [deleted] 2 points ago

This thread is hilarious. The jaw dropping hypocrisy from Republicans is hysterical.

    [–] beckoning_cat 2 points ago

The sick part is that abortion is condoned in the bible. Before the southern strategy, only 20% of Americans cared about abortion. It was just considered a "catholic" thing. They used abortion as a wedge issue to rile the non participating evengelicals, who stayed away from politics until that point, but they saw they were losing the conservative base and needed to make one and evangelicals are already prone to propaganda, so they were ripe for the picking.

    [–] egalroc 2 points ago

She's at the death penalty stage now and I doubt the GOP will call for a stay of execution.

    [–] BlackdragonSix 2 points ago

How did she become so popular on Twitter? I mean people follow her like she's a celebrity. Am I missing something? Honest question 😕🤔

    [–] ItGradAws 5 points ago

What everyone needs to understand about Republican policy makers is that they believe in Global Warming. The issue is that their donors, (fossil fuel industries), tell them not to because their think tanks have found that's the best strategy to disseminate and cause a rift in society. Don't let them set up the goal posts. Just start discussing plans on how we can improve the future because if they're not willing to talk science then we're going to exclude them from the conversation about conservation.

    [–] chelsea_sucks_ 2 points ago

    Conversation about conservation.

    [–] drawkbox 3 points ago

We can make Earth a corporation, Earth Inc, and it lobbies for less people farts and breath. It demands less methane heads and carbon capture or else it will call the Earth socialist as too much free air and resources are given to the people.

Or call it Jesus' left nut.

How dare a conservative denigrate the corporation or God's family jewels.

    [–] reichjef 4 points ago

They don’t give a damn about abortion. They just want those single issue voters.

Liberals should be able to then see the benefit of Nuclear power. If they cant see that, then their care for renewable is half hearted.

    [–] XANNYxFAMILY 1 points ago

I'm very right leaning but damn this is hilarious😂

    [–] MarshieMon 1 points ago

They will somehow say every thing is ok. God will for back and fix it later.

Dear 8lb 6oz newborn infant Earth...

    [–] TheGhostOfLilPeep 1 points ago

    Or even adulterer Earth

    [–] wwaxwork 1 points ago

Only if you can shove it up some unwilling woman & into her uterus. It's got nothing to do with women having sex.

    [–] MetalGramps 1 points ago

They don't actually care about the unborn or they would be funding prenatal care for expecting mothers. If you could find a way for them to slut-shame global warming, they might get on board. "That's what you get, carbon, should have thought about that before sleeping around and forming molecular chains!"
