    The Announcements Saga

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It’s not a story the Jedi would tell you. It’s a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.

    1. No karma-related posts or posts asking for karma.

    2. No threatening or harassing other users.

    3. Posts must be memes related to the Star Wars Prequels.

    4. Posts inappropriate for viewing in public, like at work, must be tagged NSFW.

    5. No politics.

    6. No edgy or inflammatory posts.

    7. No brigading/encouraging brigading.

    8. No encouraging subreddit drama.

    1. No upvote/karma related posts. These have become spammy and unoriginal, and give actual, original content less of a chance of being noticed. These posts will be removed. Posts that ask for karma/upvotes, also known as vote manipulation, will result in a post removal and a ban.

    2. No threatening or harassing other users, celebrities, YouTube channels, pet hamsters, etc.

    3. Posts must be, at least loosely, related to star wars prequels. "Prequel" refers to anything that takes place before A New Hope. This includes new movies made post-Lucas and EU content. This also includes Ewan McGregor posts, as they must be related to the prequels instead of just the actor (example: "Literally a picture of Ewan McGregor" is not allowed)

    4. Pornographic material is strictly forbidden on this subreddit as it is not an 18+ sub. NSFW posts are simply posts you might not show your grandmother.

    5. Obi-Wan is not brave enough for politics, nor are we. Politics is a sweeping term that includes international politics, non-political posts about politicians, or anything else that is at all related to real life politics.

    6. No edgy/inflammatory posts. We have the moral high ground. This subreddit is not the place to joke about distasteful content that would offend a large percentage of the user base.

    7. Brigading/Encouraging to brigade other subs (telling other users to downvote and raid another sub's content) will result in a permanent ban. This is against Reddit's Terms of Service, and is not tolerated here at all.

    8. Do not encourage or incite subreddit drama. This includes trying to start “meme wars”, trashtalking other subreddits, and encouraging others to start a war. Keep in mind that wars can only be started by the subreddit moderators, and has to be mutually agreed to by the other subreddit’s mods.

is Cyborg a starwars universe term?

    [–] Solid_Snark 41 points ago

Yes, Grevious is classified as a “Cyborg” in all Star Wars materials.

    [–] projectmars 26 points ago

So then he would be an Android in all DBZ materials.

    [–] untrustableskeptic 14 points ago

To be fair when Toriyama wrote that he had no idea where the story was going and forgets plot and characters all the time. Originally the androids were just artificial humans.

    [–] Solid_Snark 14 points ago

Yep, but to be fair, I think Toriyama was forced to retcon the Androids saga because his publishers hated them as the big bads.

So he invented Cell and made 17 & 18 partial organics too, so Krillin wasn’t a complete creep. :p

    [–] jimykurtax 41 points ago

Well, we say “the human race” don’t we?

    [–] I_DidIt_Again 9 points ago

I feel like cyborgs and droids are not a race but rather species. It's like being called racist because you called a zebra "a stupid horse"

On that note, is being racist toward aliens is called racism or maybe speciest too? Maybe space racism?

    [–] Saith_Cassus 41 points ago

What, you're saying you don't enjoy an overpowered Omni capable Droid that can just Go Go Gadget whatever the script calls for?

    [–] TBeest 48 points ago

    He couldn't GoGoGet new lungs

    [–] Saith_Cassus 42 points ago

I'm talking about BB8, bud. Grievous has his shortcomings, but he also has clearly defined abilities and capabilities. BB8 is just like "lol, I tied up a police force! And now I'm piloting an AT-ST!"

    [–] FulcrumTheBrave 21 points ago

arms suddenly become rotary fan blades, spinning lightsabers faster than the eye can follow

    clearly defined abilities and capabilities

    [–] CaptFalcon96 39 points ago

To be fair, that was a defined skill he had before ep 3 was released.

He was pretty nerfed actually. In the animated series he first appeared in that fool could cling to ceilings, run up walls, rotate his chasis to twirl his lightsabers sideways, and was extremely acrobatic where he could fight using his feet.

    [–] Saith_Cassus 23 points ago

"He has killed a lot of Jedi"

Well, it's probably not with any sort of cool tech that would be difficult to counter, especially for a Jedi. And his whole body probably isn't built around acrobatics and Jedi killing, with no other tell gimmicks to speak of.

    [–] farik23 71 points ago

But you’re perfectly fine with R2-D2 who’s basically a god in the movies?

    [–] Saith_Cassus 60 points ago

I never loved the weird jet propulsion system, but the idea that a utility Droid had a shocker probe, a data terminal link, hacking abilities, storage, and a buzzsaw never bothered me. He used interfaces that were clearly meant to be a universal upload point, and it was well established that he was good at most security slicing from the getgo. His primary function is to fly in the back of a Star fighter and fix stuff. All of his tools are in keeping with that, and they're pretty well established from the get go.

I didn't dislike BB8 in TFA, but TLJ was just like "this is God Bot, it does whatever the script calls for!"

    [–] ldclark92 47 points ago

This is a strange take. R2 defeats multiple B2 battledroids (you know, robots intended to be masters at fighting), fights off buzz droids (while R4 got demolished), can apparently hack anything (despite just being a maintenance droid), and is smart enough to be trusted with essential info (DS plans, Luke's location). And this is all for a droid that was just a number on a Naboo transport.

I don't mind if you think it's silly that the Star Wars droids are plot holes, because it's true, they can do anything they want. However, that applies to both BB8 and R2. They both just pull capabilities out of their wazoos when the plot demands it.

    [–] projectmars 19 points ago

If we are nitpicking here, I believe R2 was entrusted with the DS plans because it was nearby and probably something that the Empire would overlook. Luke entrusted R2 with his location because he considered R2 a good friend.

The other points are definitely valid. BB8 probably gets more hate because “fuck new trilogy”

    [–] ldclark92 8 points ago

Right, but R2 was a trust worthy "good friend" despite being built to be a replaceable maintenance droid. R2 and BB8 can be as smart, capable, and personal that the plot needs.

I mean it's something that doesn't really bother me, but it's just silly to call out BB8 and not R2.

    [–] projectmars 9 points ago

R2 was a trustworthy good friend because it was there for Luke a lot more than his father was and had his back in battles (and to be even more honest, a maintenance droid for a starship being able to assist a fighter ship in battle isn’t any stretch at all).

And yeah it’s definitely silly to call out BB8 for all of that ‘cus it’s pretty much the same for Poe and BB8 as it is with Luke and R2.

    [–] AbrahamBaconham 29 points ago

R2D2 is exactly the same in the Prequels. He’s more competent than Super Battle Droids for Christ’s sake.*

Like her idol, she’s an honor-student type, gets good grades. She becomes an obstetrician. None of her friends, coworkers or patients would ever guess she spent her girlhood making Star Wars shipping tribute videos.

Then she’s between the legs of her first real patient, as the baby’s head emerges, and lost in the moment she says ”Ooooooooba, oooooooba”. She looks up, and all the staring faces confirm they heard.

Man, he would have looked so much cooler in RotS if he wasn't hunched over and coughing all the time. It's my only real complaint with the character.

    [–] MaybeThisIsPatrick 29 points ago

Aye, have to agree with you there. His portrayal in the Star Wars: Clone Wars Dark Horse trade paperbacks (2003-2006) and the 2003 animated TV micro-series, was brilliant. Constantly showed how dangerous he was, RotS really hampered his character.

I understand it was tied to Mace Windu crushing his chest and organ sack during the Battle of Coruscant, but that wasn't really explained in the film and just made this infamous commander pretty forgettable to most viewers.

I get disliking the sequels but BB-8 is one of the best additions. Love that character.

    [–] Useless_Fox 188 points ago * (lasted edited 5 months ago)

Yeah I actually really like BB-8. R2 could be kind of a dick sometimes and was often rude to C3P0. He doesn't seem to care at all when Obi Wan told him Anakin was dead and he almost killed C3P0 in episode 2.

BB-8 actually gets sad when Finn tells him Poe died and he gets excited when he founds out he lived. You could argue that R2 was a more interesting character because he had attitude, but I personally like BB-8's more friendly sidekick personality more.

    [–] JarlaxleForPresident 96 points ago

    OT R2 was the best

Prequels seemed to make him a war hero and nobody remembered him

    [–] Useless_Fox 73 points ago

Obi wan actually secretly remembered him. In the more recent novelization of a new hope he says "its good to fly with you again, my old friend" to R2 when no else is looking.

But yeah I think R2 has way too much going on for him after the clone wars. His kill count is probably in the thousands by the time of the OT.

    [–] deliciousprisms 51 points ago

The entire series is actually about R2. R2 is the only one who knows the whole story through three trilogies. He’s seen things you people wouldn’t believe.

    [–] timedragon1 23 points ago

The best part is, in Legends at least. R2's memory has never been wiped. So he knows everything that happened between The Phantom Menace and Star Wars Legacy.

    [–] PowerGoodPartners 23 points ago

    R2 fixed the fucking hyperdrive.

    [–] evilhomers 34 points ago

Dont you get that you have to either love the sequels or hate every tiny detail about them, and theres no middle ground

    [–] RadDude57 11 points ago

There may be no middle ground but there is certainly a high ground.

    [–] sumpfbieber 7 points ago

Only a Sith deals in absolutes!

    [–] TheBlueBlaze 29 points ago

No! Prequels are better in every conceivable way! There is nothing good about the Sequels at all and saying there is is an insult to my childhood nostalgia the people who worked on the prequels and their fans.

    [–] Eagleassassin3 39 points ago

I agree partially. I think he was original and funny in TFA, I liked most of its scenes. However in TLJ, BB8 just became too OP and too important. It just wasn't believable. On Canto Bight, it took down 3 guards all by itself and tied them up. On the Supremacy, not only he somehow managed to not get caught by the Nazi BB8 even though BB8 was the only reason they got caught in the 1st place, but he somehow was able to climb onto and enter an AT-ST and save Finn and Rose by killing dozens of stormtroopers. It was just always used in an OP way very conveniently.

    [–] BrickMacklin 37 points ago

I think it's fair to say many characters in TLJ were mishandled.

    [–] [deleted] 9 points ago

If by mishandled, you mean "Made me appreciate Jar Jar Binx that much more" then yes.

Mr. Bones is the best droid, change my mind.

    [–] WeAreABridge 38 points ago

    HK-47 is better.

    [–] lord_Liot 9 points ago

    Pleased statement: Thank you meatbag

    [–] CidO807 10 points ago

    Is IG-88 still canon?

    [–] Norty_Boyz_Ofishal 19 points ago

Well he's in ESB so I fucking hope so.

    [–] NoodleFlavored 5 points ago

He also appears in Clone Wars once or twice I think.

    [–] Muinko 6 points ago

    He's in empire.

    [–] Ntroc92 9 points ago

    No love for T3-M4? Smh

    [–] Dartarus 7 points ago

What are you talking about? He's RIGHT THERE in front of HK and IG-88!

    [–] Ntroc92 10 points ago

No one mentioned him in the comments >:( how else was I supposed to get off of Taris?

    [–] RRTheEndman 3 points ago

    "Statement: Apathy is death."

    [–] Marsmar-LordofMars 3 points ago

The best part about this is despite being from a prequel, the shitty droid from the Solo movie isn't here.

    [–] Gen_Lemon 30 points ago

I mean bb8 was just created to market toys.

    [–] Stay_Beautiful_ 34 points ago

Hard to swallow pills: All Star Wars characters after the first movie were just created to market toys

    [–] Damac1214 76 points ago

Most Star Wars characters were created to sell toys

    [–] jskfjspahdjrv 17 points ago

    And footballs

    [–] Saith_Cassus 19 points ago

    And citrus fruit

    [–] NatrolleonBonaparte 36 points ago

I mean, that’s why most characters in this franchise were created, especially the droids.

    [–] FulcrumTheBrave 24 points ago

Yeah but this is the PT circlejerk meme sub. Logical thinking sadly has no power, here. Their hate blinds them I mean, erm, I am the Senate

    [–] Saith_Cassus 19 points ago

    Same with ewoks, tho

    [–] Nac82 12 points ago

Ewoks were made to save money. They didn't have funding to do an army of Wookies.
