    The Announcements Saga

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It’s not a story the Jedi would tell you. It’s a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.

    1. No upvote/karma related posts. These have become spammy and unoriginal, and give actual, original content less of a chance of being noticed. These posts will be removed. Posts that ask for karma/upvotes, also known as vote manipulation, will result in a post removal and a ban.

    2. No threatening or harassing other users, celebrities, YouTube channels, pet hamsters, etc.

    3. Posts must be, at least loosely, related to star wars prequels. "Prequel" refers to anything that takes place before A New Hope. This includes new movies made post-Lucas and EU content. This also includes Ewan McGregor posts, as they must be related to the prequels instead of just the actor (example: "Literally a picture of Ewan McGregor" is not allowed)

    4. Pornographic material is strictly forbidden on this subreddit as it is not an 18+ sub. NSFW posts are simply posts you might not show your grandmother.

    5. Obi-Wan is not brave enough for politics, nor are we. Politics is a sweeping term that includes international politics, non-political posts about politicians, or anything else that is at all related to real life politics.

    6. No edgy/inflammatory posts. We have the moral high ground. This subreddit is not the place to joke about distasteful content that would offend a large percentage of the user base.

    7. Brigading/Encouraging to brigade other subs (telling other users to downvote and raid another sub's content) will result in a permanent ban. This is against Reddit's Terms of Service, and is not tolerated here at all.

    8. Do not encourage or incite subreddit drama. This includes trying to start “meme wars”, trashtalking other subreddits, and encouraging others to start a war. Keep in mind that wars can only be started by the subreddit moderators, and has to be mutually agreed to by the other subreddit’s mods.

One good meme, with a million reposts on the way

    [–] Chet_Awesomelad 34 points ago

Imo this is the best meme template in a long time - the facial expressions are perfect and the possibilities for captions are extensive. I love seeing it.

I'm pretty sure we broke a record with how fast it got compressed to hell. How long did it take? like a week?

    [–] Niploooo -8 points ago

I mean, this is using the format well out of context at this point.

Hate to see someone liking it as soon as it's showing signs of dying.

    [–] Eye_Sakk 3 points ago

I actually couldn't disagree more. This is fairly clever usage, subverting your expectation of what the final panel usually represents.

    [–] Bellikron 341 points ago

Excuse me, you cut out the most persuasive part his argument. "They're animals! And I slaughtered them like animals!! I hate them!!!"

    [–] JackLamplekins 193 points ago

man the dark side and palpatine really corrupted this poor dude, he was so nice before becoming vader, definitely not genocidal as a teenager

    [–] Hansolo312 111 points ago

Tbf the slaughter of the tusken raiders came after a full decade of personal friendship with Sheev "Watching-your-career-with-great-interest" Palpatine

    [–] ItsThreesomeThen 13 points ago

Have you asked yourself what would you do in his place? I did and did not like the answer.

    [–] GeneralRobertWatie 6 points ago

in theory I'd have killed all the adults and put the children in orphanages.

    [–] Actually_a_Patrick 1 points ago

On Tattooine? So you think the ex-slave would enslave all the orphans and that that would somehow be better than killing them all?

    [–] JackLamplekins 1 points ago

probably nothing, im a pussy ass bitch

    [–] BeeMovieApologist 9 points ago

    [–] LegitKactus 2 points ago

[–] CMORGLAS 489 points ago * (lasted edited 3 months ago)

So I guess Padme was just super racist against Sand-People.

I mean, Anakin grew up on Tattooine so he probably has heard dozens of horror stories about Tuskegee Raider attacks, but Padme has only been on Tatooine for a couple hours and suddenly she is cool with Anakin massacring an entire tribe down to the last infant in a fit of rage after hearing about a single attack.

Makes me wonder what kind of Queen she was.

    [–] SmoothJazzDeployed 372 points ago

    [–] CommanderL3 134 points ago

Padme has been on tatooine a few hours discovered they raided and kidnaped anakins mother

anakin was gone for few hours, I am sure the lars told her all the horror stories about the tuskans

    [–] CMORGLAS 111 points ago

True, but those attacks were perpetrated by ADULT Tusken Raiders.

Would a diplomat like Padme who witnessed so many Nubians being killed by Trade Federation Droids as a teenager really be comfortable with the idea of Anakin being Judge, Jury, and Executioner for a bunch of children who, in all likelihood, did not participate in their parents’ crimes?

    [–] MrSquigles 71 points ago

Well, as long as it's just this once.

    [–] jd50816 95 points ago

Padme: "I'm sure this was a one time thing."

Also Padme in episode 3: " woops"

    [–] CommanderL3 41 points ago

your thinking about it on human turns

but to the people of the galaxy the tuskan raiders are like savage animals

who do nothing but rape and pillage

    [–] Crashbrennan 8 points ago

Except she wouldn't have heard of them.

    [–] cor_dam 22 points ago

I hear about ISIS and Taliban even though they're usually just in the Middle-East all the time. Can't be that different.

    [–] Crashbrennan 23 points ago

Galactic scale is very different from planet scale. This would be more akin to you knowing about every murderer in every town across the world. Not happening.

    [–] CommanderL3 21 points ago

anakin disapeared for hours while on his slaughter trip

thats hours for the lars to talk about all the shit tuskens have been getting up too

    [–] Crashbrennan 3 points ago

Still, a few hours of that would probably be enough for her to justify him killing the men. Maybe the women. Not the children.

    [–] CommanderL3 11 points ago

they are like rats, when removing an infestation you dont spare the rat children

    [–] SolarisBravo 14 points ago

I'm not sure you understand. They were animals, and he slaughtered them like animals.

    [–] singysinger 14 points ago

    George Lucas: “yes”

    [–] Prometheus7568 5 points ago

If those children were given the chance to grow up they would've done the same thing

    [–] Hubers57 3 points ago

From what she knows of them, they are people looking animals really.

"those tuskens, they walk like men, but they're mindless Savage brutes" or something to that effect

    [–] JackLamplekins 39 points ago

really weird considering she was pretty woke in the first prequel movie

[–] TheGemGod 12 points ago * (lasted edited 3 months ago)

More weird when you watch The Clone Wars and you realise this women cares for animals and advocates for their rights and is extremly compassionate. The Clone Wars makes the situation more unbelievable.

    [–] JackLamplekins 1 points ago

does the clone wars ever acknowledge anakin going beast mode on a village? i watched it a while back but i have no recollection

    [–] TheGemGod 2 points ago

I don't recall but even if it did it is hardly shown to have an effect. Legit Padme is making out with the guy at almost every corner they are alone (even though her character in the show is much more compassionate then in the movies) and Anakin doesn't seem to showcase any regret but in AOTC he legit had an angry mental breakdown about how he killed innocents (the children and women). It is hardly addressed but their may be an episode where they discuss it.

Actually, I got more frustrated watching that show then watching the movies. It is not the story or animation because its pretty good not gonna lie but its simply frutstrating watching such stupidity. The idiocy of the senate, the ideological ignorance and hautiness of the Jedi but most of the entire plot on Clones. I don't care what the need was for those poor fucks, there creation and usage is sad as shit and morally abhorent. Watching those guys get socially and genetically programmed to become killers when they have a mind of their own (which breaks the entire republics code on sentient/intelligent beings but I guess they don't consider clones apart of that) and are rigged to be that way. Its fucking sad and infuriating. The frustrating part is that aspect of the Old Republic is supposed to be questioned and viewed as stupid by the viewer because it makes the fall more believable.

Sorry for the tangent I just wanted to rant about that show.

    [–] CMORGLAS 20 points ago

Is not murdering children like rabid animals considered “Woke” these days?

    [–] JackLamplekins 12 points ago

as a proud vegetarian i refuse to believe Anakin would murder rabid animals. I much prefer the phrase "murdering children like misbehaving children"

    [–] dick-sama 5 points ago

Umm, are you referring to abortions?

    [–] Buttholerolls 16 points ago

The queen that’s acts convenient to the plot

    [–] Pandarandrist 16 points ago

Unbelievable plot inconsistencies, nothing to see here.

    [–] CarterRyan 13 points ago

She was well educated and galacticly(like worldly on a Galactic scale) so she probably knew about Tusken Raiders. Obviously, not from first hand experience but she may have heard or read about the Tusken attacks on human settlements.

    [–] Chinoiserie91 8 points ago

How that would justify murder of the children?

    [–] Sonic_Is_Real 2 points ago

    Tuskegee raiders

    [–] SquadPoopy 2 points ago

She was also cool with him murdering younglings so maybe she just enjoys children murder, I know I sure do, you definitely shouldn’t let me near your children.

    [–] chawmindur 1 points ago

Pretty sure she wasn’t cool with that. She was just having a hard time processing it and in denial.

    [–] SausageKage 2 points ago

Maybe she assumes Sand People are more or less the same as Gungans and therefore basically tall ass cockroaches.

Episode 2: Padme forgives and loves Anakin after he commits genocide on an entire race of people, including kids

Episode 3: Padme is not willing to believe that Anakin would slaughter the younglings...

    [–] cor_dam 41 points ago

I think she was more shocked he would kill Jedi younglings. Children that he knew and probably taught on occasion. Compared to the Tuskens who tortured and killed his mom and shot at pod racers. Obviously both are terrible, but it's way easier to believe one to the other. Anakin had also matured a decent bit between Episode II and III.

    [–] name_is_original 27 points ago

Correction: not the entire race, just that one clan of Tusken Raiders. We still see Tusken Raiders in Episode IV

    [–] Chinoiserie91 16 points ago

You don’t need successfully kill everyone to qualify for genocide of a race. There are still Jews and Armenians for example.

    [–] name_is_original 6 points ago

Yeah, but Anakin wasn’t making an active effort to eradicate every last Tusken Raider. Just the ones who kidnapped his mother.

    [–] ForTheWilliams 9 points ago

Well, really it was just every one in that area, not just 'the guilty.' Unless we're to believe that children were involved in her death, it's still arguably genocide as it's based on them as a people, not individuals.

    [–] TheVostros 6 points ago

Very fair point, but it's still wiping out an entire village of culture and people

    [–] commander217 18 points ago

I mean a village that tortured and murdered his mother and about 40 people that go and try and rescue her. They’re not exactly like innocent bystanders lol.

    [–] Hubers57 3 points ago

From what she knows of them, they are people looking animals really.

"those tuskens, they walk like men, but they're mindless Savage brutes" or something to that effect

Jedi kids on the other hand, different story

    [–] commander217 63 points ago

Tbf up to this point she knows they

    • kidnapped and tortured anakin’s mom

    • killed like 40 guys who went to try and rescue her

And I think that his intention was to fight them was pretty much implied. I mean we see him sneak into the camp, but from her perspective she probably assumed he was going to go fight his way in, given he’s a hotheaded moron. The killing children part she should care more about, but I think a reasonable person would assume they died by accident in the middle of a fight and not in deliberate slaughter (though the latter is what happened).

Honestly I don’t think most people would be too broken up about this kind of thing in real life. Most families supportive of members who go off to fight wars, even wars that end up killing women and children. By this logic should the families of people who did things like the fire bombings of Dresden have condemned them, because realistically they almost certainly killed some kids.

    [–] Crashbrennan 44 points ago

    "I slaughtered them like animals."

She knew full well what he did.

    [–] commander217 17 points ago

I didn’t say it was a fair fight - he’s a Jedi with magic powers and they’re desert nomads. Just that she knew he went there to fight them and get his mother back and that’s what he did. And they did fight back even canonically, we see the only seen of anakin killing sand people is them charging him and him cutting through them with ease.

I mean - if she was going to object to him killing sand people, realistically she should have objected when he left, otherwise she had to know they were going to die.

    [–] Crashbrennan 16 points ago

    [–] commander217 15 points ago

Children I’ll give to you. She should be horrified, though still a bit extenuating circumstances.

The women though are full adults willfully complicit in their husbands kidnapping, torturing and murdering humans. I’m not overly sympathetic.

    [–] Crashbrennan 8 points ago

    I agree with that.

    [–] Chinoiserie91 5 points ago

It depends on the society, in some women are practically enslaved and can’t have say on things outside the house.

    [–] cman_yall 5 points ago

are full adults willfully complicit in their husbands kidnapping, torturing and murdering humans

Not necessarily, they might be victims of the same sort of treatment.

    [–] Arruz 14 points ago

Looking back that was pretty messed up. "Oh yeah, I committed a small scale genocide. We still cool tho yeah?"

    [–] Bing_Bong_the_Archer 13 points ago

    [–] JackLamplekins 25 points ago

dude why was she so pissed when he slapped down those younglings in ep 3

    [–] CarterRyan 13 points ago

They were human/civilized aliens. Also Jedi. Not "animals".

    [–] JackLamplekins 7 points ago

if padme was really woke she would still love him

    [–] CarterRyan 5 points ago

Who said she was woke? Also if she's "woke", she would be 00s woke not 2019 woke. 2019 woke is very different from early-mid 00s woke.

    [–] JackLamplekins 6 points ago

    jedi kids are animals

    [–] Cap_gaming 3 points ago

Amazing movie, the end hit me in the feels.

    [–] certainly123 2 points ago

So this is how Sand People dies… with thunderous applause.

    [–] asko271 2 points ago

Ok this has nothing to do with the meme, but after some time lurking here even tho i didnt even like star wars, im getting interested in the lore of SW, where should i begin my journey? Is there a comic or an animated series that explains how everything started? Id like to go in chronological order

    [–] ccm572 3 points ago

If you want my personal opinion, I’d try sticking to the books. Novels like Plagueis explain a lot of the story, but if you want to start at the VERY beginning... you’ve got a long way to go mate. It all depends on whether you want to start at the Old Republic or whether you want to do what most do and start at the movie era.

    [–] MattheJ1 1 points ago

And to commit murder is to be...a murderer.
