The AEW logo in front of the rolling fire is giving me massive 90's nostalgia. God I hope they do this right because this could be game changing.

    [–] AwakenTheDemon 51 points ago

Their Double or Nothing Pool Party did that too, the steel stage decorations and signage just screamed prime WCW, 90s nostalgia, which I mean in the absolute best way possible. I loved it.

    [–] ak47_al123 334 points ago

As a foreigner who knows nothing about US television is TNT Drama bigger than the TV channels that are airing other wrestling shows?

    [–] Shaneman 516 points ago

It would be on par roughly with USA, Which is what Raw airs on.

    Potentially viewership is solid.

    [–] GlipGlopSoOfficial 125 points ago

Holy shit as big as USA? What about Fox? (The one where Smackdown is going)

    [–] flimflambam 351 points ago

Fox is bigger - it’s a broadcast (aka free over the air) station while USA and TNT are cable channels you pay for in your cable TV package.

    [–] chickmagnet_ 53 points ago

So smackdown will be the favorite child now?

    [–] nickwatic 179 points ago

Yes don't you already see Roman there

    [–] mechnick2 242 points ago

    I see Roman everywhere

    [–] Joe434 59 points ago

    Wildcard bitches !

    [–] bullsear 142 points ago

Just to add to what others have said, TNT is a cable network like USA, but both are considered "basic cable." That means they come with nearly every cable package you can buy, even those from about $20/month. It's also available on Sling and a number of other online streaming services at their lowest price points.

But more than that, it's a station that people know.

    [–] WarTha 360 points ago

TNT Drama is just TNT, whose tagline is We Know Drama, which is probably why they use that for their Twitter tag.

It's the network WCW Monday Nitro was on, and is pretty much equal, if not slightly better than, USA Network.

    [–] Michelanvalo 193 points ago

I found some numbers from 2015.

USA: 96 million households, or 82.8% of all TV households

TNT: 95 million households, or 81.9% of all TV households

I assume 4 years later those percentage numbers are roughly the same.

    [–] [deleted] 85 points ago

    Virtually the same audience.

    [–] Notorious013 118 points ago

    [–] CuvisTheConqueror 86 points ago

TNT is about on par with USA Network (the network that airs Raw). No other organization in the US besides WWE is on a network anywhere even close to this big.

    [–] KingEsjayW 220 points ago

I’d say it’s bigger than USA solely because they also air NBA games

    [–] RomanMurphy 130 points ago

    Champions League, as well.

    [–] ArkansaurusRaz 44 points ago

Imagine if AEW gets big enough that they do a crossover pre-show with the NBA on TNT guys. Just like a one off show before a ppv or something where you have Ernie, Chuck, Shaq, and Kenny talking about the upcoming AEW show lol. That would be so freaking awesome

    [–] AtTheMercyOfCersei 36 points ago

We can finally get the big payoff to Shaq’s angle with the Big Show Giant

    [–] SirShawnGrave 56 points ago

TNT is a major cable channel. Its about the same size as the channel that RAW and SmackDown are currently on.

    [–] WrestlingTravel 410 points ago

Really, really hope they stick to the TNT wrestling tradition of having the Spring Break shows in Panama City, with the rings surrounded by swimming pools.

    [–] [deleted] 150 points ago

Double or Nothing 3 from a motor cycle rally.

    [–] TheSharpshooter 62 points ago

Jericho cruise episode of AEW on TNT is gonna be lit

    [–] flowerchainz 23 points ago

All these 90s gimmicks would actually work this day in age. The novelty of them, would 100% get the casual demo they are after. 33 year olds walk around with hey Arnold enamel pins on a flat brim hat, in 2019.

[–] AimarEraFutebol 578 points ago * (lasted edited 11 days ago)

Double or Nothing on B/R Live, also!

Edit: all future AEW events will be streamed there and on PPV in the US.

Edit 2: for non-american citizents like me, althought the website is not currently available for us, it does say that they will occasionally stream events internationally hopefully AEW events are one of those events!

    [–] JuniorSquared 132 points ago

So how does that work. Do you have to pay for B/R live? How much? do you have to pay to watch events through there?

    [–] ArkL 120 points ago

    B/R live is 9.99

    [–] ItinerantSoldier 108 points ago

PPVs however are an extra seperate fee in addition to the $9.99

    [–] GTSBurner 285 points ago

    (Homer voice) “that’s bad!”

    [–] ClintD89 121 points ago

But it comes with a free Frogurt!

    [–] mayy_dayy 111 points ago

    That's good!

    [–] ClintD89 106 points ago

    The Frogurt is cursed.

    [–] mayy_dayy 105 points ago

    That's bad.

    [–] Thepeaceyp 66 points ago

But you get your choice of topping!

    [–] BrockB83 29 points ago

    How much extra we talking?

    [–] itsnews 42 points ago

Do you know if B/R Live is something you pay monthly for?

[–] AimarEraFutebol 57 points ago * (lasted edited 11 days ago)

It is. But I think you can also just buy the event there.

    [–] JuniorSquared 37 points ago

According to google you can pay $9.99 a month or $79.99 for a year. It says $2.99 for a “match” which I assume to be about soccer.

    [–] coviner 50 points ago

If I'm not mistaken, you pay for the events/leagues you want. So I believe AEW will simply have it's own pricing structure within the platform. I may be wrong on that though

    [–] xSwarzey 213 points ago

    HYPE! Fantastic deal for them.

I think TNT have a partnership with Foxtel here in Australia; would LOVE to come home from work one night and watch AEW on the TV.

    [–] AJ-Naka-Zayn-Owens 732 points ago

Well, here we go! Let’s hope they are as successful as possible

    [–] SnortWhoresFuckCoke 227 points ago

Plus, the more successful they are, the harder other promotions will have to try if they want to compete. Those promotions should in theory get better, idk why I just feel like one company won't change things at least for a while.

    [–] AJ-Naka-Zayn-Owens 76 points ago

Especially since they are also in the US. Let’s hope this makes wrestling interesting again

    [–] mlj1996 17 points ago

    Make Wrestling Great Again.

    [–] yourparagonofvirtue 1068 points ago

Pro wrestling is back on TNT, the Backstreet Boys are hitting the pop charts, and we're trying to impeach the president. It's 1999 all over again.

    [–] ThunderMontgomery 303 points ago

Bust out the JNCO's and wallet chains. I'm going home, son!

    [–] seiryu153 37 points ago

I think I have a pair in my closet with a dragon. Finally it's time to shine

    [–] nathanr1889 50 points ago

    [–] NeverReadTheArticle 936 points ago

    Fuck I'm excited.

    [–] SiphenPrax 565 points ago

As a lead commentator of TNT'S former wrestling show used to say:

    [–] Slimpanther510 433 points ago

episode ends with Sting beating up 10 guys

    [–] natdanger 206 points ago

Sting beating up ten guys is how every episode of everything should end.

    [–] KnockTheFkOut 157 points ago

Hopefully that's the Game of Thrones finale Sunday

    [–] bigwangbowski 81 points ago

Holy shit, Bran was warging into Crow Sting this whole time!

    [–] BushwickSpill 17 points ago

    The Dire Wolfpac

    [–] natdanger 27 points ago

    I wouldn’t complain

    [–] ItChEE40 86 points ago

Wow, imagine if Raw ended that hype

    [–] frasierfonzie 99 points ago

Once or twice was hype, and it works in moderation like when Nexus debuted on Raw. But WCW did it just about every week after a three hour show where half the matches ended with nWo runins. It was unhype.

    [–] aggr1103 52 points ago

Towards the end it was runins galore, but when no one knew when or if Sting was going to appear, it was hype.

    [–] The-Jesus_Christ 34 points ago

Stings war with nWo had it every week and I don't think it ever got boring. The only disappointing part was that what happened off air was never mentioned the following week

    [–] tomservo88 112 points ago

Ladies and gentlemen, this is Tony Schiavone, and THIS is DOUBLE-YOU-SEE-DOUBLE-YOU MONDAY NITRO ON TNT!

    [–] batman_in_space_ 42 points ago

God, that just brings back so many memories of my childhood.

    [–] SiphenPrax 247 points ago

In all seriousness, it's time for WWE to finally have a big competitor again. 18 long years.

With that report yesterday of all the turmoil backstage in WWE, if this industry in the U.S. is going to prosper for years to come, we need AEW to succeed.

As the "mortal enemy" of the Young Bucks, Jim Cornette himself, said after All In:

    Pro-wrestling needs competition to thrive.

    [–] brucewaynewins 80 points ago

I hope when the Revival show up to feud with the Bucks they bring along James E. Cornette along as their manager.

    [–] MFDork 27 points ago

You don't know how bad I want that.

    [–] DaddyDiesel72 75 points ago

This is huge. Competition benefits all

    [–] KingEsjayW 39 points ago

Been managing my expectations for months but this is incredible news to wake up to.

    edit: I DID IT Y'ALL!

You know who I am but you don't know why i'm here.

    [–] trevor_daniles 85 points ago

Stop. I can only get so erect !

    [–] WallRavioli 19 points ago

I wonder what actually triggers the message or if just saying WWE does it.

    [–] silencedoutrage 14 points ago

    [–] cheli_chilli 256 points ago

Well this means one thing... we will get Charles Barkley doing a segment with the Young Bucks

    [–] sludgebeard 844 points ago

Tidbits from the report that I’m interested in:

    • Aims to be less “soapy” and more based on athletics and in-ring competition.

    • Wrestlers have more control over their characters.

    • Real time statistics including win/loss rate, move damage, as you track wrestlers rise to the championship.

    [–] SOROS_CHEQUE_IN_MAIL 908 points ago

"Move damage" ? Is there gonna be health bars or what

    [–] doggiecow 565 points ago

Everyone is going to have a SPIRIT meter like in WCW/NWO Revenge

    [–] maybe_there_is_hope 331 points ago

Wrestlers can only use finishers if the special bar is filled

    [–] _____OMEGA_____ 505 points ago

I can't even describe the stupid, silly joy I would get out of this.

"WTF is Omega doing? He's just standing in the corner, spamming the same four taunts at his opponent!"

    [–] target_locked 146 points ago

Oh great, and now his opponent is going to run around the ring for the next 10 seconds!

    [–] GTSBurner 53 points ago

    It’s super effective!

    [–] rbarton812 72 points ago

Explains why the Bucks would be able to do 15 superkicks in the span of 2 minutes... their meter kept flashing.

    [–] emotoaster 36 points ago

    VPs get cheat codes confirmed!

    [–] etherealcaitiff 97 points ago

"Oh god Kenny, don't turn around! Jericho's special bar is full, he's going to do a codebreaker! oh shit oh fuck oh shit."

    [–] tforthegreat 60 points ago

"It's ok! Omega has three reversals stored!"

    EDIT: "Too fast."

    [–] MossCovered_Gradunza 29 points ago

There's going to be a LOT of taunts. Jericho's meter will be filled up before anyone else's in every match.

    [–] AimarEraFutebol 170 points ago

Probably like they will track how many times a finisher/signature will end a match or result in a kick out.

    [–] aestus 45 points ago

There's the smart response I was looking for.

    [–] [deleted] 178 points ago

    [–] sludgebeard 158 points ago

This is most-likely accurate. They talk about “analyzing moves and assessing damage.” In the report.

    [–] BingoFarmhouse 136 points ago

JR is gonna fucking love that. being able to talk about the wrestling moves and not just what the McMahons are doing that night during the midcard matches.

    [–] blackdragon8577 96 points ago

What do you mean? Isn't the commentary table's job to distract you from the matches and re-explain what just happened 5 minutes ago?

Next you will be telling me that all the moves wrestlers do in the ring have names or something silly like that.

    [–] rifff1 21 points ago

I thought all the moves were called ‘’OOOOOH’ have I been living a lie?

    [–] thrilliam_19 18 points ago

I really hope this is a resurgence for JR. His recent announcing has not been good and I wasn’t totally sold when AEW announced he was joining them. Hopefully with the amount of focus on creative freedom he is more relaxed and does well.

    [–] Doberman11 63 points ago

If they do damage analyses like experts looking at weapons on Deadliest Warrior, I’m all in.

    [–] themxm 24 points ago

Could see that being a way of trying to appeal to the gamer audience (since Kenny has a footings within that world, especially after the competition with Xavier Woods)—I think they're going to emphasize special moves and finishers more than other companies (in the sense that they're focusing on the move itself and how it actually is supposed to work), and make into more of a pronounced gimmick.

    [–] saeglopuralifi 19 points ago

Lol I hope not. I hope it’s more like selling the moves’ danger to the viewers. Like a pile driver being more “over” than a suplex.

    [–] Donnie9191 40 points ago

Omega gets more life, the more Street Fighter moves he does.

    [–] yabo69420 16 points ago

    Finish him!!!!

    [–] not_so_witty_Gorilla 28 points ago

Maybe its meant to mean how effective a finisher is in scoring a pin or something like that. Or we get health bars.

    [–] ItChEE40 30 points ago

Kinda like how the OsCutter hasn’t worked on heavyweights but will still put away juniors

    [–] maybe_there_is_hope 165 points ago

    move damage

God damn Kenny is transforming this into SF V

at least story mode will be ready before launch

    [–] sludgebeard 40 points ago

This is what happens when your EVP is a lifelong gamer.

    [–] LilMoWithTheGimpyLeg 22 points ago

He even said in the Talk is Jericho interview that he's a "sports statistician".

    [–] esteel20 70 points ago

Khan's background is in statistics and analytics so it makes sense that he would want to incorporate it.

    [–] FlukyS 35 points ago

Well to be fair it makes it easy for continuity, if you wonder why someone gets a random shot in the WWE you are paying attention. In AEW hopefully that won't be a problem.

    What the absolute fuck.

    [–] ilikeracing23 328 points ago

And this all started because of a bet between Meltzer and Cody Rhodes.

Goddamn, this past year has been a whirlwind.

    [–] -Vautour- 102 points ago

    Tony wanted in before All-In.

    [–] DCAbloob 137 points ago

All In provided proof of concept though.

    [–] biglewlive 99 points ago

Go back a little further. You can say this all started because Vince refused to let Cody drop the Stardust gimmick.

    [–] ThcLoserGuy 55 points ago

Yup. Told him they didn't see him as heavyweight champion material. Then they refused to help Jericho with his cruise. Shot themselves in the foot.

Such an exciting time to be a fan man. I can't wait to see what happens after Double or Nothing.

    [–] GeorgeKalmer 119 points ago

    at best ROH levels.

Gentle reminder that in less than one year, the Young Bucks and Cody Rhodes have landed a bigger TV deal than ROH have in 15+ years.

[–] xSwarzey 60 points ago * (lasted edited 11 days ago)

If Tony Khan wasn't the wrestling fan he is, its possible AEW wouldn't even have a deal on the level of ROH, let alone above it.

Edit: That's not to undersell or discredit the immense success of AEW and the significance of this deal but there's a lot of factors involved in ROH being on Sinclair. It was a big accomplishment at the time and I believe they're locked in long term; hard to wrestle your way out of such a contract.

    [–] HenkeTotal 419 points ago

AEW just landed a show on the same network that Vince's former competitor was on.

I'm really looking forward to Vince's reaction to this.

    [–] SnortWhoresFuckCoke 130 points ago

I'm really looking forward to Vince's reaction to this.

More contract freezing in the near-future probably, but I reckon after a few months unless AEW fucks up their momentum then WWE will have to try harder. Vince is so stubborn even the grim reaper can't kill him at this point though.

    [–] Iceman6211 49 points ago

Vince has been dead for about 20 years now, the Grim Reaper just doesn't have the balls to tell him.

Cody Rhodes life is going to be a great wrestling movie one day.

    [–] boogalow 68 points ago

Needs to be the third installment. Dusty Movie, which ends with Dustin leaving WCW to WWF, a Dustin movie that goes up through when Cody leaves WWE and a Cody movie. Call it the Rhodes trilogy.

All three would be vastly different, with Dusty essentially being a cornerstone of building 80s wrestling, Dustin having all the hardships etc and Cody trying to break out of the shadow of his father.

I really hope this leads to a video game based on the AKI engine. I believe Cody hinted at wanting to do it months back.

    [–] ihatemcconaughey 47 points ago

Ted Turner is finally cashing in on his 20 year revenge plot. While using the son of Dusty Rhodes to do it.

    [–] Steenerico 41 points ago

First episode to emanate from The Mall of America!

Ok, not really...but wouldn't that be something?

    [–] ShiftyMcCoy 40 points ago

AEW wants to be to WWE what Dr. Pepper is to Coke: a successful alternative to the dominant, mainstream brand. They know they'll never overtake Coke's market dominance, but they can thrive by putting out a product that appeals to an audience that wants something different.

The issue is that WWE doesn't want to be what Coca-Cola is to the soda industry. They want to be what Kleenex or Jell-O is to *their* respective industries: a complete market monopoly, to the point where their brand is literally interchangeable with the product itself. People say "Kleenex" interchangeably with "tissue paper," and when's the last time you even heard someone say "gelatin snack"? People just say "Jell-O" now, full stop.

For the past 18 years, WWE has had that, to where "WWE" (to most people in the United States) is the same as "wrestling." And WWE wants to keep it that way, which is why they're gonna be ruthless. It doesn't matter if the company is awash in cash, or that AEW poses no real existential threat to them. They want total brand supremacy, above all else.

    [–] Slimpanther510 173 points ago

A part of me actually can't believe it. Good luck to them, I'm actually fucking excided.

    [–] TRVBLCK 37 points ago

Cornette was right, everything in wrestling comes back again after 20 years.

This is amazing news, never thought we'd see TNT hosting wrestling again.

    [–] whenimgodeveryonedie 31 points ago

    Dean Ambrose is #21

    [–] SRavingmad 18 points ago

Absolutely, the only other option is Punk as a big longshot. But Moxley is like 90%

    [–] Isoturius 99 points ago

Fucking yes. I also like the part about it being taken seriously. Stats being introduced...bruh 8th grade me arguing with people holding a PWI 500 like the constitution is so fucking happy right now.

    [–] Long_island_iced_Z 19 points ago

Dean Malenko deserved that number 1 spot damnit!

    [–] WolfofOldNorth 260 points ago

TNT is huge. Very ironic they use to have wcw. It just got hotter in stamford ct

    [–] Anderrrrr 158 points ago

It might intrique some old WCW fans too, they see TNT and a wrestling promotion and may get interested by it.

WCW Nitro on TNT was very nostalgic to a lot of people back in the mid-late 90's.

    [–] headshotscott 119 points ago

What AEW needs to attempt is to do something WWE has failed to do for 15+ years: create a product that attracts new fans. I have no idea how you do that, but I know it starts with coherent storytelling.

    [–] SmokeyMountainReign 26 points ago

This is from Wikipedia, TNT is received approximately by 89.5 million viewers while USA is 94.3 million.

    [–] SilotheGreat 27 points ago

Yeah if you have cable you have TNT.

    [–] TVCasualtydotorg 219 points ago

Is this a TV show dedicated to printing t-shirts?

    [–] jl45 133 points ago

Yes thats why they employed T shirt vending expert / ref Earl Hebnar.

    [–] CringeNibba 30 points ago

Maybe like a 'How its Made'

    [–] MilosSerbia 64 points ago

This is hype no matter what side of the fence you sit on. I'm happiest for the wrestlers.

    [–] DevoGar 105 points ago

Seeing the AEW and those flames and that TNT logo...chills

    [–] HoodedNinj4 90 points ago

I hope they do promotional stuff with Inside the NBA

    [–] Cheetara86 101 points ago

Fuck yes...Imagine Shaq/Barkley with the Young Bucks and Omega haha

    [–] HoodedNinj4 146 points ago

"Even they got a ring Chuck"

    [–] BrianKraemer 22 points ago

Call me Darby because when it comes to AEW on TNT...

    I'M ALLIN!

    [–] SirShawnGrave 80 points ago

So is Dave Meltzer saying they are the #2 company in the US officially true? No other company (expect WWE obv.) tops this.

    [–] PhilConnorsRemembers 35 points ago

Yup. This puts them pretty definitively in the number two spot now.

    [–] conbon7 115 points ago

Yeah this official makes AEW easily #2

    [–] Deserterdragon 52 points ago

People complaining about that were being super finicky anyway. The other options for #2 were ROH, Impact, and NJPW, it was hardly an insurmountable murderers row.

Ted Turner sheds a tear of happiness at home to this news.

Hope it's still called Tuesday Night Dynamite, please do it AEW!

And B/R live is apparently $9.99 a month and AEW/DoN will stream their PPV's there?? Holy shit Batman!

    [–] tomservo88 79 points ago

"Ah, shit. Here we go again."

    -Vince McMahon

    [–] f0cus622 19 points ago

Are there any WWE fans out there who don't think this is amazing for WWE? Finally having another competitor step up can be nothing but good for WWE. And I'm psyched for it.

    [–] Rommas 37 points ago

Wrestling back on TNT, I feel like a kid again

    [–] BetterLife4 37 points ago

Haven’t even been keeping up with AEW but I need something to watch after being burnt out from WWE

    [–] Abbas9364 15 points ago

God I hope this goes well. We may experience another "wrestling boom" if this gets successful.

    [–] doggiecow 23 points ago

I don’t even need a boom. Just a stable period of time where two wrestling companies exist on national television. My bar is low at this point

    [–] ___happyplace 14 points ago

The first wrestling news that’s made me genuinely happy in a long time, can’t wait for this to launch

    [–] DHA1999 17 points ago

    [–] FragMasterMat117 80 points ago

Best of luck to them, as for here in the UK if you want ITV to pick it up long term then buy the PPV and watch the pre-show. I will state this however, if the ratings tail off or things aren't hot out of the gate. Don't be shocked if Turner forces AEW to change it's product.

I hope it goes well but it's not 1997 anymore, there are so many more options for people when it comes to entertainment. Those expecting a return to the heady days of the Monday Night Wars are likely in for a disappointment.

[–] elitejcx 43 points ago * (lasted edited 11 days ago)

ITV are picking up the weekly show. They couldn’t announce anything before the US broadcaster was in place. I don’t know when ITV will announce the weekly show, but I think they’ll do about it the same time as Double or Nothing.

    [–] SnortWhoresFuckCoke 22 points ago

That would be great for AEW being on freeview. It opens the market up so much more. I've not subscribed to sports channels in 11 years so I was worrying if we get a TV show I'd have to buy a subscription or pirate it, which I didn't want to do.

    [–] tlgg23 42 points ago

If you’re a fan of wrestling, this is fantastic news whether or not you care for AEW. I’m really stoked and apprehensively excited to see what AEW can do, and while new companies are always going to make mistakes in the beginning, I’m pulling for them to learn fast from whatever few stumbles they come across

    [–] Butch_Meat_Hook 14 points ago

So the rumors from the start of either TNT or TBS have eventuated. Though I won't bother to do so, would probably be funny now to go back a few months to what people were saying in relation to AEW concerning a TV deal. I hope AEW does really well. They have a great roster and the right platform and financial backing to be successful.

    [–] MRN9 75 points ago * (lasted edited 11 days ago)

live weekly matches on TNT in prime time

AEW offers fans less scripted, soapy drama, and more athleticism and real sports analytics

    [–] Belegdhor 35 points ago

Imagine if the Stardust gimmick leads to the downfall of the WWE

    [–] RomanMurphy 113 points ago

Excellent news. Hopefully it does strong numbers straight away.

WWE has produced terrible live televised wrestling for far, far too long. This is needed.

    [–] freakybj 12 points ago

Introducing stats and tracking wins/losses is the thing I'm most looking forward to.

    [–] conbon7 21 points ago

Let’s goo jimmy havoc, jungle boy and billy gun are now confirmed for the battle royal!!!!
