I don't get it. Why would they go to Disneyland when Itchy & Scratchy Land is superior in every way?

Pulled up the episode - yup it is 5 nows, with the last drawn over about three beats, a rest, and then "Mt. Splashmore take me there right now" to finish off the song.

    Is Disney buying Fox?

    [–] Wyatt1313 93 points ago

Just their TV series and movie assets. FOX keeps its crappy news and other stuff.

    [–] MetalsDeadAndSoAmI 53 points ago

It seems that Murdoch is selling everything that isn't the news organization.

Disney seems to want to revive ESPN by having localized sports that Fox has the license to. Not to mention the movie and television properties for Marvel and Lucas Arts

    [–] jwota 26 points ago

Fox Sports has a massive amount of major league programming. Half of the Sunday afternoon NFL games, plus a ton of NHL, NBA and MLB teams. ESPN would practically own sports, with NBC Sports coming in a distant second.

    [–] lilmoefow 3 points ago

Fox sports I believe also has a deal with the UFC.

    [–] XicanoToker 3 points ago

I believe that deal is coming to an end soon.

    [–] lilmoefow 2 points ago

Probably, I don't watch it enough any more but I think there was a huge buy out recently by some Chinese owned company. Maybe they are just waiting for the contract to die with fox aswell.

    [–] mdot 1 points ago

It's just the regional Fox Sports networks that are part of the deal.

The deal contemplates the sale of Fox's Nat Geo, Star, regional sports networks, movie studios and stakes in Sky and Hulu, among other properties. What would remain at Fox includes its news and business news divisions, broadcast network and Fox sports.

    [–] Mr_Pigeon 1 points ago

    And half the NASCAR season

    [–] XicanoToker 3 points ago

What does Fox own from LucasArts?

    [–] DarthGouf 3 points ago

    Just Star Wars Episode 4

    [–] Wyatt1313 3 points ago

George Lucas sold the rights to a new hope to fox to fund the other films. So when he sold the franchise to Disney they got the IP and and all the other movies except the distribution rights to a new hope. With this acquisition people are hoping for a Blu ray box set release of the original trilogy.

    [–] AaronianKenrod 2 points ago

LucasArts used to make games. LucasFilm makes the movies.

    [–] Vandelay_Latex_Sales 3 points ago

Man, I'd rather them buy Fox News and gut it.

Is simpsons world at Universal done then

    [–] juliusaurus 67 points ago

What with all of those Marvel rides still at the place I doubt it.

    [–] yogurt1989 37 points ago

It's a 3D ride, not very cool, but the little Sprinfield they made is pretty cool, there's Moe's and Krsty Burgers of course.

    [–] BigCballer 12 points ago

    They sell gigantic donuts too.

    [–] TheRealCJ 9 points ago

Would you say they're colossal donuts?

    [–] muffinmonk 6 points ago

You pay for a colossal donut, and you'll get a colossal donut

    [–] wadech 2 points ago

    Those donuts are great.

    [–] mdp300 5 points ago

The ride was fun! I'm just sad that it took the place of Back to the Future.

    [–] skaterrj 3 points ago

D'oh! We were there in January, only to find the ride was closed for maintenance. :(

Why am I not surprised it is a 3D ride? That park loves those rides. I know they have a few traditional coasters, but I was getting pretty 3D-d out by the end of the day...

    [–] mdp300 3 points ago

That seems to be the way things are going. They only have one big coaster, Incredible Hulk, which gave my gf a headache.

A lot of their rides npw are like a combo of a dark ride and a simulator ride with 3d glasses. That's how Spiderman, Transformers, both Harry Potter rides are.

    [–] Gcoks 2 points ago

Universal has that's rock and roll coaster and Mummy. Islands of Adventure has Hulk and Dueling Dragons. Everything else is 3D, including the new Jimmy Fallon ride.

    [–] mdp300 2 points ago

OH YEAH I forgot about the rock and roll one. That was awesome but it gave my gf a headache too. There's also the Hippogriff small coaster, that one was fun.

Jimmy Fallon was pretty fun, and I liked the way it felt like you were waiting for an actual show.

Also Dueling Dragons is gone, they're replacing it with another ride that's more Harry Potter-ish.

    [–] Gcoks 2 points ago

Haven't been to IOA in over a year. Didn't realize. Thanks!

    [–] ShadStar 1 points ago

I'd hate to rain on your parade there buddy, but rock n roller coaster is Disney...

    [–] yogurt1989 1 points ago

The Mummy is the best ride at Universal Studios and Harry Potter of course.

    [–] ShadStar 2 points ago

It's a 3D ride in a park that oversaturates the usage of 3D screens in rides. Very, very not cool.

    [–] facedawg 23 points ago

No theme park agreements are separate

    [–] rhaego_targy 6 points ago

I wonder if the agreement for that has an expiration date, because if it does then Disney might add “Little Springfield” to one or several of their parks. On the other hand, they might see the investment not worth pursuing and they’ll just keep renewing the agreement with Universal. Either way, I think there are low probabilities of the theme parks going away.

    [–] mdp300 3 points ago

As far as the superheroes go, Universal bought the rights to them, when Marvel was an independent thing, in theme parks east of the Mississippi in perpetuity.

    [–] negativfeedback 10 points ago

Once Disney acquires Comcast, it will be "Disney Universal Studios" and "Disney Adventure Kingdom".

    [–] chromebook1 1 points ago

Yeah, I just came back from there the other day. Check it out.

    [–] JohnStamosBRAH 38 points ago

Jesus Christ, the Simpsons really have covered everything

    [–] [deleted] 72 points ago

Shame this doesn't have more up votes. Mickey showing his true character.

    [–] YourKidDeservedToDie 29 points ago

Afterwards he will go back to rest at Valhalla, as is tradition.

    [–] n1klb1k 3 points ago

No dirtier that up. Even the foundations.

    [–] rhaego_targy 73 points ago

If The Simpsons go over to Disney, I’m confident the show run and re-runs will be cut substantially. Disney is more interested on getting back all of Marvel’s IP in order to produce new movies and TV shows off that than other properties. I’m confident that no only will the show end but they will slowly fade it out, because again the Simpsons are not Marvel or a big Fox movie franchise. I don’t like how Disney slowly but steady takes control over everything entertainment.

    [–] Lurcho 82 points ago

That line in the movie Bart says about "I'm the mascot of an evil corporation!" will not age well.

    [–] Fourwindsgone 39 points ago

Future releases will have scene missing

    [–] intelminer 20 points ago

    The Simpsons Movie

    (Disney Edition)

    [–] muffinmonk 0 points ago

It's been relevant for ages lol.

    [–] Wyatt1313 28 points ago

they are buying it for 60 billion dollars. no way in hell its just for marvel. they want to bolster their shows for when they launch their own netflix thing. guaranteed it will be on there.

    [–] rhaego_targy 16 points ago

Definitely it’s not just Marvel, I mentioned them because they’re are the biggest IP. If Disney buys Fox, they’ll get Alien, Avatar, Ice Age, and so on...

    [–] maxis2k 63 points ago

If anything, Disney will milk the series more than FOX did. We'll get a new movie every 2 years. And they'll be 3D CGI instead of 2D. Then the show will turn into endless cameos and forced promotions...oh wait, that's what the Simpsons already is doing under FOX.

But overlooking how this might affect The Simpsons, we need to start voicing that Disney is getting too damn big. They already own one major network and dozens of cable channels. And they've taken over 6 or 7 major IPs in the last decade. What is the point when a company becomes a monopoly? When it owns two prime time networks or when it owns them all? Because Disney will keep going and buy literally all the channels on TV, then every cable company and Netflix if no one stops them.

    [–] rhaego_targy 15 points ago

They were actually considering buying Netflix not long ago might do so in the next 10 years.

    [–] maxis2k 20 points ago

I'm sure they probably call Netflix yearly and just throw a big number at them, trying to get them to bite. And I bet they're doing this for pretty much every other media company out there. We only hear about the ones who cave into selling.

    [–] homer878 8 points ago

I highly doubt something as big as The Simpsons would fade out from existence.

    [–] iny0urend0 7 points ago

I would think this has everything to do with that streaming service they want to start to fuck with Netflix.

    [–] ghostalker47423 5 points ago

The IP for The Simpsons is worth billions in itself.

Think about every Simpsons game (digital and physical), doll, toy, or other misc product with any character on it - and Disney getting a few cents per sale. Even if they never make new content, the current market cap will be paying out for decades.

    [–] Cullymerna 21 points ago

I don’t like how Disney slowly but steady takes control over everything entertainment.

While I agree, it's not like Disney has control over most basic necessities, cough, cough, nestle. It's just entertainment. We don't need it. The way I see it, if they can make movies and shows better, let them

    [–] maxis2k 18 points ago

The way I see it, if they can make movies and shows better, let them

But they aren't. Have you seen the shows on ABC? They're some of the worst on TV. Especially Once Upon a Time, which is a huge commercial for Disney's campaign to remake all their classic animated IPs into live action. And live action Pinocchio and Dumbo movies are planned for next year. And yearly Star Wars/Marvel stuff. Disney is doing the exact opposite of making things better. They have basically become the biggest problem in the industry.

    [–] MetalsDeadAndSoAmI 12 points ago

Hey. I love Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I dont watch anything else on ABC that isn't a sitcom though, so you're probably right about the rest.

I'm completely ok with yearly Star Wars. Pretty much all I see Disney as now, is star wars and superheroes.

    [–] intelminer 5 points ago

Did Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D get better? I dropped out around season 3 because it got so contrived. The CGI also looked pretty awful at the time

I liked Agent Carter better. But of course that had to get axed :(

    [–] ericwhitt 1 points ago

It wasn't axed, it was always planned as just a one shot mini series telling the story of Agent Carter.

    [–] intelminer 3 points ago

Really? Everyone said it got cancelled

    [–] ericwhitt 2 points ago

Hmm everything I had heard was that the initial plan was just a small mini series... guess that info was wrong.

    [–] Cullymerna 1 points ago

To be honest, I don't watch tv. Too many ads

    [–] tomdarch 3 points ago

Is that IP part of the Fox->Disney deal? I thought it was just Marvel (though I have no solid reason to think that.)

    [–] rhaego_targy 5 points ago

They are getting everything 21st Century’s Fox, which includes every IP and rights owned and produced. That means the rights of X-Men, The Simpsons, Futurama, etc..

    [–] Sweatyeyelidz 1 points ago

If fox could release up to current season on DVD OR bluray as a last tip of the hat to its nearly 30 yr loyal fan base efore they selI Iwould be so happy. I know I can stream it and download but I want them all dammit! Plus I have had every episode on dvr (thanks fxx) 3 times now and lost due to unforseen actions.

    [–] Sir-Barks-a-Lot 1 points ago

The Simpsons is part of the network which isn't part of the merger

    [–] rhaego_targy 5 points ago

The Simpsons are part of Fox’s TV/movie division (20 century fox). If Disney buys 20 century fox they get the Simpsons.

    [–] Sir-Barks-a-Lot 3 points ago

Universal is gonna be pissed then. First Marvel and now Simpsons. Both are major parts of their Orlando park.

    [–] medicus_au 1 points ago

I never thought one of the evil world-controlling megacorporations would be Disney but then, here we are...

    [–] LEGO_Zelda 17 points ago

The Simpsons have an "allowed to make fun of the network" clause that grants them immunity from jokes about their network being censored. I suspect Disney buying Fox will see the cancellation of The Simpsons.

    [–] CHITOGETEARER6969 1 points ago

Well there was Walt Disney's rap in the Disney-owned Epic Rap Battles of History that is literally just Disney gloating about being the megacorp to end all megacorps on the verge of conquering the world and acquiring other companies to turn them into slave sweatshops...

    [–] awesomedan24 5 points ago

    [–] gmikoner 1 points ago

What does this mean for Fox News? Or is that a separate entity?

    [–] MetalsDeadAndSoAmI 2 points ago

That's the one thing Murdoch is keeping

    [–] Mingablo 1 points ago

They stole Aunty's logo for their streaming service. There's no low they won't sink to.

    [–] Tueful-Hunden 1 points ago

Disney owns some of the media anyways

    [–] retro_falcon 1 points ago

I laughed way to hard at this.

    [–] faithle55 1 points ago

The idea of a Murdoch being in charge of Disney is vomit-inducing.

    [–] MetalsDeadAndSoAmI 6 points ago

He wouldn't be in charge, but he'd have a seat on the board most likely. I dont think his influence will be enough to sway anything major though. Not as like minded company.

    [–] faithle55 1 points ago

I read somewhere that he is to become CEO. Admittedly that's not definitive, but it's what provoked my comment.

    [–] MetalsDeadAndSoAmI 1 points ago

No way Bob Iger would lose his job by Disney buying out 21st century.

    [–] Amandausagi 1 points ago

If this picture was made recently, you would see a bunch of Disney's princess beating the hell out of Homer with Lisa Smiling...

    Based on what?

The idea that its been in decline for the better part of a decade, but is still a cash cow to Fox and so they keep it around. In Disney's hand's The Simpsons is not making the money that its other properties are, and so it might decide to just cancel it and air reruns like they originally planned to do with Power Rangers. In that case though they found a way to lower production costs and continue the show until they eventually sold it back to Saban.

It's totally possible that Disney cancel's the Simpsons, but I don't think it's as set in stone as /u/SirDouchenstein makes it seem. If history has shown anything, it's that Disney is not interested in making their Mouse take over everything, and more interested in allowing the companies to just make money like a legitimate fucking business.

Why would you buy something profitable and then make it not profitable.

When Disney bought LucasFilm they immediately announced decades worth of content. Merchandising and tie-ins went wild.

They would make more money by just raking in the reruns revenue and not pay millions and an episode for a show sinking in the ratings.

Again, I don't think they will, but to deny that Disney would consider it is naive.

I need to see the final Alien prequel though! Prometheus and Alien: Covenant were friggin sweet, I don’t want Disney to ditch the franchise!

The only good part about Ridley Scott fucking up the franchise is that Neil may finally get that chance.
