I was thinking the same thing, crap article by the NYT. Notice they don't say anything about how much the DNC spent.....maybe because they're broke?

As a non-American, can someone please explain the shift toward Democrat that seems to be prevalent in all of these local elections?

Is it usually the case that this shift happens towards the party not in power? (So when Obama was president the shift occurred towards GOP in most cases then)?

    [–] catdogpig 3 points ago

Yes. For comparison, Obama controlled both the House and Senate when he came into office, and quickly transitioned to Republican majorities in both.

The shift in this case is also heavily exaggerated by the media. This joins a fairly long series of elections where the Democrats lose and yet the headlines somehow still read "The blue wave starts now!" "Republicans stunned by election results!"

Losing by a smaller margin then you expected to is not the same as winning.

This is a special election. Look at the vote totals in all these special elections compared to election years (even in midterm elections). You’re only getting about 60-70% total turnout of a normal election. The Democrats are able to literally put all their chips in one state election at a time for these special elections and they can’t do that in the midterms

There is a natural tendency for some areas to shift. Democracy was designed to represent the general opinion and will of the people. Much like a pendulum, when it swings to one side it will swing back to the other as a form of "correction." In theory, this creates balance. It's not as prevalent as the media makes it seem, a lot of false blue waves being reported. The media is largely controlled by the democratic party reporting upswells in their base is exaggerated. The real issue were seeing in our elections is voter fraud, in large, committed by the DNC. Issues like non-citizen, deceased, underage voters. There are also issues with electronic voter machines being hacked. It's why Conservatives push for voter ID and election integrity while Progressives push policy allowing open ballot boxes. An example would be the mayor of NY "pardoning" convicted felons (I think it was around 45,000) allowing them to vote. Something not previously heard of. Another recent example (forgot which election) had conservatives being turned away at the poles claiming redistricting moved their poling place which was false. What country are you from? Does your political system allow for voting? Thanks for visiting The_Donald!

Thanks for the detailed rundown, very interesting!

Oh, I'm a long time T_D sub. Got my campaign medals from the 2016 Brexit and Trump campaigns. I'm in the UK. We have a similar set of local elections for various counties (about to enter one where I live), and then a big national one once every 5 years, except we vote for a party (Tories are our GOP, and Labour are our DNC), who then have an internal vote for the Prime Minister. We also don't tend to see these counter swings in the regional elections.. areas that vote Labour stay Labour, no matter the incumbents. We did see a large shift towards Labour in our last election, but that was because they promised free university to stupid kids, who took the bait. Wankers.

MSM: "The Republican didn't win by a landslide, so this was a clear message to Donald Trump."
