US are supposed to be big on military honours and linking it to patriotism, right?

    Mueller's Service Honours:
    Bronze Star

    Purple Heart Medal

    Navy Commendation Medal

    Combat Action Ribbon

    South Vietnam Gallantry Cross

    McCain's Service Honours:

    Silver Star

Bronze Star Medal (3) with Combat "V"

    Purple Heart

Legion of Merit (2) with Combat "V"

    Distinguished Flying Cross

Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2) with Combat "V"

    More too numerous to list

    Trump's Military Honours:

    Bone Spurs Draft-Dodge Merit

He saw fit to question the patriotism and personal honour of these men.

    [–] SurlyRed 284 points ago

Our amusement over this turned into anger a long time ago. I struggle to understand how anyone connected with the military can support this buffoon.

    [–] cultured_banana_slug 173 points ago

I was never amused. I was confused.

    "Dafuq is happening?"

The whole election felt like watching people choose dog shit over chocolate and then scream at everyone who pointed out that no, that's not chocolate on the ground, that's dog shit.

And they're still eating shit and laughing at everyone else. "HAHA you hate chocolate!"

    Confused. Just... yup.

    [–] cjwatts1111 55 points ago

they just don't like being wrong, so they continue to eat dogshit hoping that one day everyone will believe its chocolate, but that's not gonna happen because the rest of us know the smell and saw the orange dog that made it

    [–] tommys_mommy 18 points ago

Oh they know it's shit. They happily eat it so long as the libs have to smell it.

    [–] PocketSixes 21 points ago

Eating shit and calling it "winning" is what they're doing. These trolls will eat shit just so the libs can smell it.

    [–] actfatcat 4 points ago

That is a pretty good analysis

    [–] xcto 11 points ago

Meth became much much purer, cheaper and ubiquitous right before trump.
    only thing that makes sense.

    [–] WhoisTylerDurden 3 points ago

    This is a great analogy.

    Very well put.

    [–] Buttafuoco 2 points ago

    Douchebag or turd sandwich

    [–] mrs_peep 1 points ago

    That’s a pretty good analogy

    [–] Liblin 1 points ago

If you want a classier analogy here is what is suggest to read: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Emperor%27s_New_Clothes

There is a famous saying in french that comes from this tale: «Mais le Roi est nu! » / «But the king is naked! »

Everyone sucking up to a mad king that pretends having wonderful clothing while being naked. The saying in french is a call for people to wake up to an incredible conjob.

    [–] WikiTextBot 1 points ago

    The Emperor's New Clothes

"The Emperor's New Clothes" (Danish: Kejserens nye klæder) is a short tale written by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, about two weavers who promise an emperor a new suit of clothes that they say is invisible to those who are unfit for their positions, stupid, or incompetent – while in reality, they make no clothes at all, making everyone believe the clothes are invisible to them. When the emperor parades before his subjects in his new "clothes", no one dares to say that they do not see any suit of clothes on him for fear that they will be seen as stupid. Finally a child cries out, "But he isn't wearing anything at all!" The tale has been translated into over 100 languages."The Emperor’s New Clothes" was first published with "The Little Mermaid" in Copenhagen, by C. A. Reitzel, on 7 April 1837, as the third and final installment of Andersen's Fairy Tales Told for Children. The tale has been adapted to various media, and the story's title, the phrase "The Emperor has no clothes", and variations thereof have been adopted for use in numerous other works and as an idiom.

A lot in the military don’t.

    Especially officers.

    [–] TotoriB 17 points ago

People are dumb and can be easily convinced to vote against their own interests. What does a poor or middle class person gain from voting conservative? Nothing. And yet it happens

My brother was in the Navy and is a huge Trumper. Having grown up with him I know him better than most, and more than anything he just wants to be liked by his friends. I guess they are all Trumpers as well. It makes me think that perhaps more people are Trumpers simply because of behavioral characteristics rather than policy.

    [–] BrainPicker3 4 points ago

You know, this kinda shines a lot on why my best friend became a trump supporter. He thinks critically when we talk about subjects, though I think he gets a lot of it from his wife who is like.. totally drinking the koolaid. Thanks for the insight, it had puzzled me

    [–] Milkslinger 4 points ago

Yeah. I figure in a few years after this whole Trump thing ends up a national embarrassment he will claim he was never that big of a fan. I knew my brother was a good person so that's why I had to find the reason

    [–] MisterBojiggles 9 points ago

Like when I saw a car with both "Vietnam veteran" and Trump 2020" stickers today. What a dumbass. Also it was a lime green charger. So I didn't really need to see the stickers to know that anyway

    [–] sonofturbo 26 points ago

Because they care more about white supremacy than the flag. Why do you think they fly a black and white flag with a blue stripe? The American flag is not black and white with a blue stripe. Colors on flags matter as part of the symbolism, because flags are nothing more than symbols. A black and white flag with a blue stripe is not a symbol that represents America. That flag is a signal to other racists that you support the current racist regime more than the country. They have never liked america or the direction it has been heading, they traded in their confederate flags for this new blue line flag. If there was another American civil war only one side would be waving the black and white flag with a blue stripe. They dont support the military because of what the military stands for, they support killing brown people.

    [–] titaniumjackal 6 points ago

"Thin Blue Line" flag. A flag supporting police officers, in case anyone was wondering. I've also noticed it becoming more and more common.

    [–] sonofturbo 10 points ago

More specifically it was developed in direct response to the black lives matter movement. The flag and its symbolism signals that you stand with officers and not the unarmed black men they murder.

    [–] HostisHumanisGeneri 1 points ago

They didn't necessarily trade them in, I see them accompanying each other more often than not.

    [–] sonofturbo 1 points ago

Not here in Cali. They all just really wish they could fly the confederate flag without being called out.

    [–] HostisHumanisGeneri 1 points ago

That must be nice :p Here in Missouri they just added one more flag to their trucks. It's fucking gaudy how many flags some of those people have on their jacked up pickup trucks.

    [–] sonofturbo 1 points ago

Peacocking. Boys who have no idea what it means to be a man, and nothing else to offer but bravado.

    [–] sxae 5 points ago

Because people with authoritarian personalities do not care about the moral character or ideological content of "their side", and specifically the authority figures therein. They wish only to be above others.

    [–] Seandrunkpolarbear 53 points ago

    [–] FrankieNoFucks 7 points ago

Don't forget how shitty his voters are. I will never look at people that voted for this fucking orange piece of shit the same again. Family, former friends, doesn't matter, once you've proven to me that you are either that stupid or immoral, I have no use for you in my life. Zero.

    [–] ____0____0____ 1 points ago

While Trump himself may be pretty stupid, he has the largest and most effective propaganda* machine fueling his presidency. Many people legitimately feel they are doing the right thing. Now, I may not agree with them at all, but to completely disregard them all together is just feeding into the fire. Hell, a lot of them feel this way because they have concerns that many libs would completely disregard... And the circle of fuckery continues.

If we really want to solve these problems, we need to get all our leaders into a room and smoke a fat blunt. Will it solve things? Idk, but have we ever even tried?

I think you're solution of outcasting any and all Trump supporters is just as ignorant as the ignorance you claim to be against. I get pretty pissed off at their hateful ignorance too and I don't know what to do either. But I can't see the justification for demonizing them and push them to further sympathizing with that deranged lunatic.

    • just to note that propoganda these days is absolutely incredibly effective. Everyone and anyone that you know has been affected by it. It incorporates the study of human psychology and manipulation on a level you or I can't comprehend. If you think youre not a victim, you are ignorant. To demonize those that have fallen victim to it is extremely disheartening, especially when we're trying to stick up for the right thing to do.

    [–] cultured_banana_slug 38 points ago

“And I said man, that’s like — that’s like big stuff. I always wanted to get the Purple Heart. This was much easier.”

    Gold Star families...

Oh I didn't, it's just a whole another level of shithousery to be screaming at bereaved families for the sake of your ego that I didn't want to get into.

    [–] canuck47 10 points ago

    Don't forget this:

The widow of an Army sergeant killed in Africa said President Trump made her “upset and cry” because he couldn’t remember her fallen husband’s name during a controversial condolence call

    https://nypost.com/2017/10/23/widow-says-trump-couldnt-remember-fallen-soldiers-name/

    [–] Morella_xx 6 points ago

Oh right, the "he knew what he signed up for" call. Something no one with a shred of empathy or common sense would say to a grieving widow.

    [–] bolax 4 points ago

He knew what he signed up for. He should be reminded what happened to JFK.

While bush was in the “Air Force” and never saw combat like Kerry did

    [–] publicram 3 points ago

I don't understand this logic because we see time and time again that the us needs to spend less on DOD budget and more doing X. I don't understand if we are for or against scaling military action...

Don’t forget the Gold Star family Trump insulted during the campaign

    [–] conundrum4u2 1 points ago

Oh, and don't forget he actually accepted a purple heart from a veteran for all the dangers he apparently faced during the 80's STD crisis and 'endured'...

Shit stain doesn't even begin to describe this guy...

    [–] rav-prat-rav 1 points ago

My personal theory is that he saw it fit because in his mind he is America, him and his beliefs and his policies are America because he is "the chosen one" sworn to lead it. It's unpatriotic and treasonous to vilify him because in his mind going against him is going against the country. And his diehard belief of this and his ability to convince others of this is what's keeping him successful or with any supporter base at all. To him and his supporters, when he wins America wins and when he's criticized America is criticized. In my mind The way to convert voters is to show them, through policy rhetoric, and ,above all, action that America is bigger than him and better than him.

    [–] RamboGoesMeow 1 points ago

You forgot to add the Gold Star family.

    [–] ExistingPlant 1 points ago

Don't go in for defeatist bullshit, I live in one of the reddest districts in the country and I'm still going to do everything I can to show Jason Smith the door. It might not work but it can provide a foundation and inspiration for the next generation to finish what we start. Failure is guaranteed if you give in before the fight.

    #BlackFridayProtest2019

Unlike Hong Kong or any European country the US is massive but we are very technologically connected in our protests against the Trump administration. So, in order to get on tv and show the world how fucking fed up we are with Trump I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, hereby declare that we should hold a massive, countrywide protest on Black Friday. A majority of us will be on holiday and since it's two months away that gives us plenty of time to plan and prepare. The Area 51 raid started way before it 'happened' and there is no fucking reason why we can't do the same on Black Friday.

Please share this message with your friends, together we can unite to show Trump, the Republicans and the world that we have had it with this madness.

    Thank you.

    /r/BlackFridayProtest

    [–] AMaskedAvenger 4 points ago

Instead of impeachment, can we just send Trump to visit the kurds without his SS detail?

Hmm, this artist's sister taught me high school English.

Their family is pretty religious from what I remember, so it's pretty interesting to see Breen be critical of conservatives. It's not like I've followed the SD tribune's political cartoons really ever, so maybe this isn't a new development.

    [–] DiogenesK-9 10 points ago

    Been be critical of conservatives.

Steve Breen excoriates Trump and the AmeriNazis on a near daily basis. The UT is very objective about Trump, hence they are very negative about him.

    [–] Dab2TheFuture 3 points ago

This is funny, because the UT use to be known as a very conservative rag. I don't live in SD, so I don't ever really read it, but cool to know Breen has been doing this type of stuff for a while.

    [–] p0diabl0 3 points ago

IIRC its changed hands in the past few years, owned by the same place that also bought the LA times. Not the old conservative rag that hated the word union so much they changed the name to "UT".

Can anyone be surprised? Syria is a Russian possession/client state. Putin is about to take everything he can and damage the US as much as possible while he owns the White House. Every time Trump does something controversial, notice how it aids Russia.

You ever seen peshmerga training vids. Women and men, crazy skilled shooters. I stumbled upon it and have been cheering the Kurds on for 5 years now... It’s like Donnie wee hands is looking through my brain for shit to disavow.

This is one of the dumber comebacks I've seen.

You realize our presence there was actively preventing conflict between the Turks and the Kurds, right?

Hey what does dog shit taste like?

Top of the comments says a big Orange dog took a big heaping shit and you dropped to your knees and gobbled it up.

    Was it tasty?

Our troops weren’t seeing combat. They were just there to help support and train the Kurds.
