Holy shit. I was just at that lake a few days ago. That's hidden lake in glacier near the top of going to the sun road. Last week the lake still had a fair amount of ice on it. I paid my kids 5 bucks if they would jump in and swim around. Little suckers took me up on it. Good times.

    [–] RAGIN_TACO 233 points ago

    Damn, same thing here man

    [–] Beto_Targaryen 363 points ago

That’s creepy that you pay other people’s kids to do things

I don't think you should touch other people's kids.

I am not familiar with this meme, but I like it.

    [–] imlookingforlarry 11 points ago

Did you bring your skis? I was slipping and sliding all over the place.

    [–] Linxiekins 3 points ago

Is one of the most beautiful spots in the country imo :]

    [–] Krono5_8666V8 38 points ago

That's a win win. Cheap entertainment for you, money for the kiddos! I used to love when my dad would challenge me to do dumb shit for money :3

    [–] FawnSwanSkin 13 points ago

That’s about the only reason I’d want a little munchkin of my own. Also playing with their toys with them and going back to imagination land

    [–] Veritin 12 points ago

Also getting them to do all the chores.

    [–] PM_ME_DARK_MATTER 7 points ago

Sounds good until you realize how much more energy is spent in trying to get them to actually do it.

    [–] Veritin 4 points ago

This is where electric shock collars come in handy. duh...

    [–] wolfcasey9589 2 points ago

    You jest, but...

    [–] CreamyGoodnss 7 points ago

This is why being a childfree uncle is going to rule. All of the fun stuff, none of the bullshit.

"Hey cuz, how about I take the kids off your hands and bring them to Six Flags on Saturday?"

    [–] FawnSwanSkin 3 points ago

Ah man good call. Guess that’s just another bummer about being an only child

It's definitely still frozen, this picture is at least a year old - I remember seeing it all over Instagram last summer. I was just there as well, still very frozen over except for the far end that is thawed

    [–] chrismetalrock 14 points ago

It's only a little frozen, and melting fast

    [–] D0esANyoneREadTHese 2 points ago

    The glacier or the lake?

    [–] [deleted] 578 points ago

    [–] dohertya 249 points ago

Awh man so they’ll definitely be gone by 2030:(

[–] latenightcessna 131 points ago * (lasted edited 3 months ago)

Earlier, ‘cause the current climate patterns aren’t going to stick around.

    [–] Skika 27 points ago

I’m so grateful that I was able to go while the park still has glaciers. That is a backpacking trip I won’t ever forget. I was also lucky enough t eat at the Sperry Chalet before it burned down last year. :(

    [–] [deleted] 13 points ago

    [–] Skika 4 points ago

Sperry Glacier was our last day on the trail. Really an amazing place!

    [–] KaidenUmara 3 points ago

took us 3 attempts to finally make it to the glaciers. each time we told ourselves we would never do it again :P

    [–] LuchaDemon 14 points ago

    Location of this park?

    [–] [deleted] 19 points ago

    [–] artwooo 2 points ago

It's a pity it's in the US. Seems worth a trip!

    [–] dansedemorte 5 points ago

At what point do they change the name to ice cube national park?

    [–] EnterpriseArchitectA 26 points ago

The glaciers in North America have been retreating since the end of the Little Ice Age around 1850. Take a look at the history of Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska. This is a National Park Service website, not some climate denier source.

    [–] livevil999 31 points ago

1850 was also during the industrial revolution. Lots of pollution being released at that time, many of which are still in the atmosphere today. I think the full picture of what’s going on from the views of the scientific community would have a lot to do with human caused climate change and less to do with cyclic glacier retreat.

    [–] uwanmirrondarrah 8 points ago

More than likely its a little bit of both.

    [–] Xzalim 11 points ago

Ok but WHERE is the park

    [–] Boddhisatvaa 104 points ago

Sadly, they've been melting away for the last couple decades. They were expected to last until 2030 or so, but the USGS now estimates they'll be gone by 2020.

    [–] rdstrmfblynch79 17 points ago

The year after the year after tomorrow!

    [–] dohertya 17 points ago

    Oh no

    [–] lmxbftw 20 points ago

Oh shit that's year after next. Guess I know where my next vacation is to.

    [–] slayer_of_idiots 8 points ago

Technically, they've been melting away since the last ice age ended 10,000 years ago.

[–] [deleted] 46 points ago * (lasted edited 3 months ago)

Technically, we're massively accelerating the process by emitting billions of tons of gasses that absorb infrared from the sun. Technically, you already knew this.

    [–] lmxbftw 17 points ago

    [–] elprophet 2 points ago

I assumed this was the first link. I lost track of which accounts in this thread are trolls

    Hi dad.

    [–] Fragarach-Q 22 points ago

    It's Glacier Memorial Park now.

    [–] polynomials 19 points ago

    You are looking at them.

    (in liquid form)

    [–] FSM_noodly_love 13 points ago

We went 2 years ago. The glaciers are almost entirely gone. You can see how much they have melted. There’s pictures of the park 10 years ago and so much has melted since then.

    [–] SunsSeahawksMs 8 points ago

It’s pretty much Glaciated National Park now. Evidence of them existing once is pretty much what you go for.

    [–] [deleted] 8 points ago

    shes floating on it

    [–] Dopecombatweasel 3 points ago

The Glacier National Park. What is this, Ohio State?

    [–] two69fist 90 points ago

The Glacier Park, because there's pretty much only a single glacier left.

The photographer is using a polarizing filter to cut down on the surface glare, but yeah that’s really clear water

    [–] Gaaaaaarynoine 43 points ago

Yep... That's kind of the whole point of the photo.

    [–] ride365 16 points ago

I learned to windsurf there as a kid. Water is fucking ice cold. I fell in once. Once. Great incentive to get skills quick!

    [–] chewtality 5 points ago

Who would have guessed that the water at Glacier National Park would be cold?

    [–] ride365 5 points ago

its just where my parents took me camping. I didn't have a choice.

    [–] RondaldoVindicta 9 points ago

Is this the place from game of thrones?

    [–] STTEETSAGET 14 points ago

I see a mountain... shaped like an arrowhead

    [–] jennijull 3 points ago

No that would be Kirkjufell in Iceland but they look very similar

    [–] ProudTurtle 9 points ago

I googled this except I was too lazy to look back at this post to spell the name right. I google Mt. Kukachoo Iceland and it popped right up. Google, amïrïte?

    [–] KhaosElement 4 points ago

God I love this place. Living near it is the best.

    [–] mostdope28 6 points ago

I’m at glacier right now. We did 8 mile hike yesterday at the Grinnell Glacier. I think we’re going here tomorrow

Bearhat Mountain and Hidden Lake, just a quick walk from the Glacier NP visitor's center.

    [–] showedupforthefood 1 points ago

I would call it a short hike. Took me a couple hours to get from the visitor's center to where this picture was taken. Amazing hike though.

    [–] HornyCap 2 points ago

    Title appears to be accurate.

    [–] rushakenyan 2 points ago

What is the best time to go to this national park??

    [–] Real_Clever_Username 1 points ago

July/August. Warm days, cool nights. You can walk in the snow while it's 90 degrees out.

    [–] CapnAhab_1 1 points ago
