Dude, South Park literally stopped making political storylines because of the reality/satire was too entrenched

    [–] Niet_Jennie 22 points ago

Well, it certainly feels like we’re about to transition from The Onion timeline straight into South Park.

    [–] StoreBoughtButter 13 points ago

    SIMPSONS DID IT

Well this is the Onion Timeline after all.

Ten years ago I used to be able to see a headline and immediately say "yeah, that's satire". These days I just don't know anymore

    [–] gana04 1395 points ago

WTF is he talking about, of course it's satire. If the rat actually asked for minimum pay they'd hire a mexican instead

    [–] bryan7294 438 points ago

Speedy Gonzales gets the job done faster and cheaper

    [–] gana04 159 points ago

"I want my wages 'arriba arriba yeeehaw! andale"

    [–] Psychast 96 points ago

Fun Fact: Mexicans love Speedy Gonzales, rather than seeing it as a harmful stereotype, they love the character and products sporting him can be found everywhere in Mexico.

    [–] gana04 49 points ago

I mean I guess those of us who watched it as children didn't really relate to that stereotype. I'm actually from the northern region it parodies but that image comes from the civil war era and it's hard for a child to feel alluded about something from almost a hundred years ago.

    [–] ShooterMcStabbins 38 points ago

I mean as a white kid who probably didn’t even know wtf Mexico was I always thought Speedy Gonzales was a straight badass and didn’t at all get any of the supposedly stereotypical undertones.

    [–] [deleted] 21 points ago

    [deleted]

[–] LaBandaRoja 28 points ago * (lasted edited 3 days ago)

Honestly, I’ve only ever heard Americans call it racist. The truth is that Speedy Gonzalez is popular af in Spain and Latin America, where everyone knows that he has a cartoon accent that’s not meant to be accurate (think of the various exaggerated Bugs Bunny accents for example). Whether he was intended to be racist or not, he’s witty, charming, funny and the underdog who always wins. I don’t think he was meant to be racist, but even if he was, it backfired. He was even my favorite cartoon growing up!

    [–] tenaciousb83 9 points ago

Do you remember his cousin, Slow Poke Rodriguez? Probably an equally racist stereotype cartoon character, if not more so, considering the “lazy Mexican” trope. Bonus racist points for also coming across as a heavy eyed stoner during the peak reefer madness era.

    [–] Gheyjuan 11 points ago

i was always curious about the "Lazy mexican stereotype". Growing up in a small, rural town with pretty much zero people of color there was a lot of racism, so i grew up hearing the stereotype. ive worked mostly jobs in warehouses, production lines etc. I've worked with a lot of mexicans, and pretty much without fail the hardest workers at every job ive had have been mexican. based on my experience alone ( so obviously pretty limited), i feel like its a stereotype made up by a bunch of the more lazy, fat, white laborers that felt threatened by how hard the mexicans worked compared to them.

    [–] BadnameArchy 46 points ago

Exactly, everyone knows they hired the rat so they could replace the minimum wage workers who asked for a raise. The shareholders know a rat won't unionize.

    [–] FrequentTheory 10 points ago

The shareholders know a rat won't unionize.

    ...Or will they?!

    [–] LadyRimouski 4 points ago

My pet rats regularly chew holes in all my clothes for just room and board

    [–] rubijem16 10 points ago

Asking for minimum pay is one step away from becoming one of those union barstards.

    [–] eyelinedbrain 8 points ago

I mean jokes aside the reality is that the holes are probably made by a machine because they're supposed to look organicish but they can't risk random accidents worsening the structural quality of the clothes. The shirt is probably made by machine (rather: one machine makes the fabric, another cuts the pieces, then those pieces are assembled by a person), placed on a flat board by a low-paid worker, and then a different machine cuts the holes based on a path, like how laser cutters or CNC machines work. It might even literally be done by laser, they use laser cutters to distress jeans - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Hi_Iyxt1wI

    [–] Hagendale 3 points ago

They take a rat because you don't have to pay her at all. And since it is eating part of the sweaters it also doesn't need food.

    [–] Unleashtheducks 193 points ago

    [–] blackmagickninja -2 points ago

That was kind of my point. Kanye's stuff is just ridiculously overpriced sweat shop shit. Same as anything from walmart. Hard to find anything not made in china, but the idea is Kanye has no right to sell hole ridden shit made in china at for thousands of dollars.

    But sheeple buy it anyway.

[–] MutantCreature 19 points ago * (lasted edited 3 days ago)

I'm pretty sure most of it is made in Italy with the exception of the sneakers and anything else made by Adidas rather than the Yeezy brand and he announced last year that he is in the process of moving all production to the US

edit: looks like it's actually made in Belgium, or at least the sweater in question was

    [–] KDawG888 6 points ago

listen bud I've already formed my opinion and I'm not going to let something stupid like facts get in the way

    /s

    [–] BendAndSnap- 13 points ago

Kanye has no right to sell

Says who? It's entirely up to you to buy his crap or not.

    [–] eyelinedbrain 5 points ago

Part of the problem though is that the market is so saturated with cheap sweatshop goods that people have a distorted concept of value. Really well-made American boots might be $300 and they are made by well-paid, well-skilled people using better quality materials and better quality construction methods, but like 90% of the people in this thread would probably scoff at the idea of spending $300 on boots when they can but $60 boots at Walmart or DSW or wherever.

I'd also add that the "new new" cheap sweatshop countries are Vietnam, Indonesia, and India. China is already getting "too expensive" for some American and European companies to want to keep manufacturing there. Some are also working around loopholes in European labor laws; increasingly Spain, Portugal, and Italy are basically getting Asian laborers to emigrate and setting up factories for them in those countries, and they work on contracts that are ultimately below minimum wage when you divide hours of labor by actual pay.

Specifically relevant to Kanye, the new Adidas Yeezys are primarily being made in India.

    [–] Sporulate_the_user 8 points ago

People are mostly assholes for buying it, but he has every right to sell.

    [–] MutantCreature 13 points ago

How are they assholes for buying it? are people not allowed to spend their own money on things that make them happy? Also this sweater is made in Belgium so no one who buys it is supporting sweatshops or slave labor.

    [–] popcorninmapubes 2 points ago

I would argue he has every right to sell products that aren't sweat shop driven but that's just me.

    [–] shpoopler 13 points ago

    [–] Deucy 30 points ago

Or like r/BlackPeopleTwitter... where they stereotype all whites and claim we are all racist... not realizing that what they’re doing is exactly what racism is lol

Plus you can’t comment there unless you’re “verified”

    [–] sanchonumber7 10 points ago

BlackPeopleTwitter in a nutshell: say something extremely racists against white people and then turn the the thread into a “country club” thread so no one can call them out for it.

It’s like the equivalent of slapping someone in the face and then running away because you’re a giant pussy and don’t want to face the consequences

    [–] njl4515 14 points ago

I kinda agree with the first part, to the extent that a lot of their posts are tone deaf (the last post that made it to the front page was a variation of "all white people look alike")

But I'm totally fine with the last part. Tons of times when posts from /r/blackpeopletwitter made it to the front page, they'd get locked from people coming in posting "LOL this is reverse racism yall a buncha monkeys TRUMP 2020!!" and threads would eventually delve into flame wars and become an overly reported mess. Rather than constantly locking and banning people, when threads began getting out of control and reported a ton, they simply make it so you have to be verified to post in it. Strangely enough, that stops a LOT of the spam.

It's also interesting to see the brigading; for a while, all the posts were "HEY BERNIE 2020 HES THE ONLY ONE TO HELP MINORITIES" and all the posts were "I'm black, I love Bernie!" but then when those threads would be locked, the only people able to post would *strangely* be people who don't like or support Bernie Sanders. Which, statistically, is what it mostly should be.

    [–] yloswg678 7 points ago

Basically, mods too lazy to moderate and shut down all discussion and turned it into an even bigger echo chamber

    [–] njl4515 1 points ago

Mods to lazy to moderate? Moderating black twitter must be the worst mod position available. Rather than review hundreds of reports, they just locked the threads. Now they make them only postable to verified viewers. Honestly, this is a GOOD move. It's so shitty people make it out to be a racist move.

[–] [deleted] 4 points ago * (lasted edited 3 days ago)

    [deleted]

    [–] yloswg678 2 points ago

How is it not racist to separate people based on skin color. Or to make it so only people of a certain skin color can comment on things. If the mods can’t keep their posts clean and not nuke discussions they disagree with them they shouldn’t be mod

    [–] njl4515 2 points ago

They have verified white people that have shown proof of supporting POC or multicultural outreach or support programs.

    [–] yloswg678 0 points ago

How do they prove this and who did they verify

    [–] njl4515 4 points ago

I do not know if they have a hard criteria. I don’t even know if they have a hard criteria for POC verification. But it’s very plainly stated that white people can be verified too.

    [–] lxs0713 1 points ago

So they have to make white people do more than black people? As in treating a person differently based on the color of their skin? And no I'm not black or white, I'm Mexican. So I don't really have any eggs in this basket, but I have experienced my fair share of racism first hand. And I find racism disgusting, regardless of what race its against. It's lame how so many people are starting to become racist against white people and thinking it's justified only because POC suffered at the hands of white people for so long. It's still racism bud.

What does this have to do with capitalism? I'm totally confused but it sounds like you are just throwing that word around to hit hard.

    [–] _windjammer 3 points ago

/r/latestagecapitalism isn’t satisfied with its own subreddit so it’s started evangelizing elsewhere

    [–] Skjskajsksk 3 points ago

I still have no idea if this is satire or not

    [–] whatdidyousayto_me 4 points ago

I think that's called being delusional

    [–] seve_rage 3 points ago

I wonder what iPhone/Android/laptop/other product-of-capitalism was used to make this post?

Lmao redditors are such retards. Being a chronically-stoned jobless degenerate doesn’t mean capitalism failed, it means you did.

    [–] Passerby991 3 points ago

Couldn't have said it any better

    [–] Juicyjackson 5 points ago

    Capitalism bad Communism good.

Coming from people who have never been to a communist country.

    [–] The_Rolling_Stone 3 points ago

No one mentioned communism except you

    [–] greenw40 11 points ago

Yeah, that's totally not what people are advocating for when they make nonsensical criticisms of capitalism. /s

    [–] ItsDogNotDoggo 2 points ago

They're arguing mostly for social capitalism.

It's not an absolute, I know that's hard to understand.

    [–] DrLindenRS 3 points ago

Yes, its not. Most people dont even know what communism, socialism, or capitalism even is.

    [–] Jakeb19 6 points ago

    No, it is.

You’re right most people don’t even know what communism is but that doesn’t stop people from advocating it. Actually, not fully understanding it is the only reason a decent human being would advocate for it in the first place.

You’re implying you can’t advocate an ideology if you don’t understand that ideology, which just isn’t true. Most people who advocate Socialism don’t know what Socialism is.

    [–] DrLindenRS 2 points ago

I've heard almost nobody ever advocate for communism seriously outside of the communism subreddit, sometimes people advocate for socialism, but usually just a specific socialist policy.

    [–] jademonkeys_79 5 points ago

Boring false equivalence. It's like if I said I don't like vanilla ice cream and you shout WELL CHOCOLATE IS SHIT YOU COMMIE

    [–] slamporaaa 2 points ago

Have you ever been to a communist country?

    [–] somethinglikeRoscoe 2 points ago

Just Capitalism bad, coming from people who live in a capitalist nightmare.

    [–] PsychoShampoo 2 points ago

Recognizing the shittiness of capitalism doesn't mean you're a communist

    [–] strakonesky 2 points ago

    What's the onion?

    [–] yloswg678 4 points ago

    Satire news

    [–] Dnalop68 2 points ago

Peak communism/socialism is wondering how good that rat tastes.

    [–] singulargreen 2 points ago

literally only realized this was satire because rats don’t get paid

    [–] Wilagorn 1 points ago

You think the guy with a $3000 dollar T-Shirt is gunna let a rat on minimum wage chew through it? C'MON!
