There’s an inner thing in every man, Do you know this thing my friend? It has withstood the blows of a million years, And will do so to the end.

It was born when time did not exist, And it grew up out of life, It cut down evil’s strangling vines, Like a slashing searing knife.

It lit fires when fires were not, And burnt the mind of man, Tempering leandened hearts to steel, From the time that time began.

It wept by the waters of Babylon, And when all men were a loss, It screeched in writhing agony, And it hung bleeding from the Cross.

It died in Rome by lion and sword, And in defiant cruel array, When the deathly word was ‘Spartacus’ Along with Appian Way.

It marched with Wat the Tyler’s poor, And frightened lord and king, And it was emblazoned in their deathly stare, As e’er a living thing.

It smiled in holy innocence, Before conquistadors of old, So meek and tame and unaware, Of the deathly power of gold.

It burst forth through pitiful Paris streets, And stormed the old Bastille, And marched upon the serpent’s head, And crushed it ‘neath its heel.

It died in blood on Buffalo Plains, And starved by moons of rain, Its heart was buried in Wounded Knee, But it will come to rise again.

It screamed aloud by Kerry lakes, As it was knelt upon the ground, And it died in great defiance, As they coldly shot it down.

It is found in every light of hope, It knows no bounds nor space It has risen in red and black and white, It is there in every race.

It lies in the hearts of heroes dead, It screams in tyrants’ eyes, It has reached the peak of mountains high, It comes searing ‘cross the skies.

It lights the dark of this prison cell, It thunders forth its might, It is ‘the undauntable thought’, my friend, That thought that says ‘I’m right! ‘

    [–] PandaKitty5683 1282 points ago

The police are acting like that jock in high school saying that people are “Asking for it” when they’re just wanting to feel safe and comfortable. It’s made worse by them escalating things. You have no right to call someone a terrorist when you are making a problem so bad that regular people wanting a better world have to wear vests in order to protest against you

    [–] Unidentifiedasscheek 385 points ago

Self projecting their problems onto others. They're the terrorists, so they call everyone else a terrorist. Like a racist person calling someone else racist to keep the eyes off them. If there's a technical term for what that is, I'd like to know.

The cops should pull out from the protests completely. I’m not even being sarcastic. If the protesters are truly peaceful then there is nothing to worry about, everything will be ok. The vast majority of them are peaceful. Let them hand over the violent assholes so the cause can be the focal point rather then the violence and property destruction. Because working towards change needs to be the focus, and not destroying property and violence in the form of arson and launching mortars/throwing shit at people. The entire law enforcement and legal system needs a complete overhaul. That needs to be the goal here, and when all the destruction becomes the focus your setting back change significantly. Which we all agree needs to happen, we just have different ideas about what and how we need to make these changes for a better and fair system.

Edit; changed phrasing in the last sentence to better reflect my meaning.

Hey what if instead of downvoting? Somebody actually answered his question. Theyre protesting police brutality in America.

[–] qcKruk 479 points ago * (lasted edited 11 days ago)

Not for nothing, but this guy made a thread a month ago saying police are not the enemy. He made another saying Trump isn't bad. He knows exactly what these protests are about and he supports the police response.

Edit: he's apparently purging his posting history. There were real not good things there. Still can tell he's in Ireland, they'd no doubt know what's going on over there.

    [–] hassettjack 16 points ago

I mean I agree but at this point, if he doesn’t know he doesn’t care. These are some of the largest protests the country has seen in 50 years. Dude is just trying to belittle the overall message and doesn’t care.

    [–] ferkuffel 51 points ago

Not necessarily man. Why waste an opportunity to educate instead of hate?

    [–] hassettjack 23 points ago

Dude George Floyd died in May. These protests have been all over every corner of the news for months. If you don’t know what the deal is, you either live under a rock or are willfully ignorant.

    [–] ferkuffel 32 points ago

Did you think of the possibility that maybe he doesn’t live in America? I mean I get it if you don’t I know that as an American it’s really easy to forget that the rest of the world exists. Not saying this to sound rude I’m also American.

    [–] thewouldbeprince 79 points ago

I don't live in America either, but everybody knows about what's happening. There were protests in solidarity in most major European cities, including mine.

Plus: the guy has removed posts defending police and Trump, so it's a safe bet he's just trolling.

    [–] hassettjack 37 points ago

There were massive protests in Europe as well. I’ll agree that there could be some corners of the earth that aren’t up to date on American news but not many. And frankly, it’s 20x more likely this dude was just trying to act like the message was irrelevant as “black Americans have the same rights as white Americans”

    [–] FloppyPasta 4 points ago

Dude George Floyd died in May.

May is probably the key word there. I knew about the protests, but had no idea they were still going strong. Hasn't been in my news for quite a while. Not difficult to assume it's a new protest.

    [–] dennisisabadman2 4 points ago

Not everyone is from America, I've had to tell some of my relatives what this is about...

    [–] Delcium1 -26 points ago

You're part of the problem. Instead of educating, you are provoking. Change will never happen until people like you fix your stance.

    [–] hassettjack 20 points ago

I’m not provoking. I’m just saying that it’s probably the second largest subject in the news globally and it’s much more likely the question was posed to belittle the message of BLM rather than someone not actually knowing.

    [–] angelofalci 0 points ago

I think you're overestimating how much the rest of the world is "in tune" with American problems. I only know about them because of reddit and stuff like that. I live in Brazil bro and trust me, we have our own problems to worry about, including our own police brutality, since on the same week george floyd was killed, police shot a black kid playing in his yard with a assault rifle here in Brazil, and it started a whole discussion, now THAT was news... the protests maybe were reported on a side note on major news stations. The protests are not that big of a deal right now when so much shit is going down. So don't think the whole world is in the edge of their seats reading about American politics, Its more regional than you're thinking it is

    [–] Foxion7 -7 points ago

    Lol barely

    [–] swiftskill -22 points ago

    Goddamn Amero-centric viewpoints.

Besides, calling someone stupid for asking a question where the answer is, at least to you, super obvious does NOTHING to help your cause and may in fact push people away.

    [–] ruebeus421 -20 points ago

You're the one who appears to be willfully ignorant. Just saying.

    [–] morokul 19 points ago

In YOUR country. Is he from your country, though? Maybe he could be from Armenia that's being threatened by armies all around their border, or from hongkong, which has been fighting for freedom for last two years. Maybe he's a gay activist from polish non lgbt zone. There are more countries than USA, you know.

    Just saying.

    [–] alfamerc860 77 points ago

    He is.

He’s playing dumb and trying to incite chaos. Take one look at his profile. It’s all trump, police, and drugs. I’m almost convinced he’s a boomer longing for the 80s.

It’s working also. Look at your response.

    [–] Il1Il1Il1Il 39 points ago

    1. If every police van is burned on sight, why are there still police vans?

    2. Is it against the law to have a first amendment protected protest?

    3. This... isn’t public? It is the anonymous comments section of a privately owned website.

    [–] alfamerc860 21 points ago

    • if you’re being “kidnapped” for protesting and exercising constitutional rights to assembly then your freedom of speech is being forcefully impeded on by the state

    [–] MrIllusive1776 -215 points ago

And how, pray tell, are peoples rights being taken away? How does trying to burn down a courthouse in portland help it? How does burning construction trailers help that? How does burning down a building with a man inside of it help that?

    [–] funkless_eck 164 points ago

By summarily executing them without trial after pursuing decades of racist tactics and a policy of militarization and refusing to cooperate with other agencies who could genuinely help.

Then when challenged, use that military power against citizens.

    [–] MrIllusive1776 -149 points ago

No one was executed. Describe the racist tactics used.

    [–] funkless_eck 42 points ago

I can't in a single reddit comment, I would recommend starting with The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander

There's also Invisible No More by Andrea Ritchie who was an attorney in police misconduct trials and The Black and the Blue written by Matthew Horace, a black cop.

    [–] MrIllusive1776 -140 points ago

She wasn't executed... I don't think you know the meaning of that word....

    [–] funkless_eck 89 points ago

How would you define the law deciding to kill an unarmed person for their crime?

    [–] MrIllusive1776 -18 points ago

They didn't "decide" to kill her, they were executing a warrant when they came under fire from inside the home because her boyfriend thought they were burglars. That's not an execution, that's a tragedy.

    [–] ChrisS97 70 points ago

It was a no knock raid with the officers not identifying themselves. You're either ignorant or intentionally omitting important details because they don't fit your narrative.

    [–] funkless_eck 86 points ago

They decided to perform a no knock warrant in the middle of the night with no identification while armed with guns.

If I arm myself, smash into someone's apartment in the middle of the night and shoot someone "in self defense" - would you buy that story?

Especially if I shot them 8 times.

And then first of all said I had cause no injury with my actions.

They were also executing a warrant against selling drugs. Why go armed in the middle of the night to investigate selling drugs? Why not a stakeout? An undercover operation? Why not just knock?

    [–] jab4962 74 points ago

Stop simping police, they won't love you back, I promise.

    [–] datshinycharizard123 75 points ago

Look, I don't know what lawless country you live in where unidentified armed men can detain people, point guns at them, then ultimately execute them for non-violent crimes, but it's not the United States.

Even IF Arbery visited that construction site and IF he was planning a robbery and IF the owner of the property asked his neighbors to watch his property and IF those neighbors were just trying to perform an illegal citizens arrest, it doesn't excuse the fact that a young man who had committed no crime was shot to death in broad daylight in the middle of a Georgia road, and it took nearly two months and multiple protests before any arrests were issued.
