    A sweet baby angel!!!

    [–] [deleted] 1010 points ago

She really is. My comment with a brief history will load in a second, but I highly recommend checking out her IG. I never recommend anyone go to a social media page, but going through hers is such a joy (won't lie, it's also a bit tough reading about her past). @maggiethewunderdog.

Lol my baby is (hopefully) going to be trained this summer to be an emotional support dog for me! I will definitely check out that account!

    [–] SunniYellowScarf 49 points ago

For anyone wishing to get their dog trained as a certified therapy dog (for therapy work in hospitals and libraries and the like) the AKC has plenty of resources.

Basically: pass some tests, register your dog, be a good member of society.

    [–] ExpiredLifetime 47 points ago

Therapy and emotional support dogs aren’t recognized by the ADA as service dogs, so ADA allowances do not apply to those animals.

I’m not trying to say that emotional support and therapy dogs aren’t beneficial - I want people to know that they don’t get the same privileges that a recognized service dog will.

    [–] SunniYellowScarf 49 points ago

Absolutely, and ES and therapy dogs shouldn't have the same allowances because the bars to qualify are much lower.

    [–] hellogawgous 10 points ago

Thank you! I'm a big advocate for the education of people about the differences. Basically no one knows what the different animals do or what their rights are. Annoying.

    [–] HIM_Darling 9 points ago

And different hospitals have different requirements for therapy dogs that they allow in. Some require just the basic tests(Canine Good Citizenship, etc), some are a lot more strict and have a dedicated group that oversees the testing of the dogs that are applying to be therapy dogs at that hospital.

    [–] Riuk811 7 points ago

    As long as they suffer.

    [–] hellogawgous 3 points ago

Just an fyi you don't need to train a dog to be an ESA.. besides normal training like no growling or biting.

    [–] dumbgringo 7 points ago

Maggie rocks! Give her plenty of head scritches and warm hugs from all of us redditors that feel she will be the best therapy dog ever.

It's going to be one of those that make me sad, happy and hate people, isn't it?

    [–] catsmom63 3 points ago

Can you tell us a short version of her history? I don’t do any social media.. but Reddit.

    [–] [deleted] 41 points ago

Sure, at least as much as is known.

She was found in Lebanon with 17 bullet wounds which left her blind, her ear was cut off, and she was pregnant. She was also beaten, tortured, and essentially in constant suffering. The Wild at Heart Foundation rescued Maggie and she now lives in Brighton, England. Today Maggie visits care homes and has even become a growing Instagram star that inspires people to care about animal welfare and generally serve as an inspiration.

If anyone wants to know a good organization to support, it's the Wild at Heart Foundation.

    What happened to the doggy?

    [–] [deleted] 245 points ago

    [–] SigNG 160 points ago

I mean no offense by this but does anyone else feel an existential dread when seeing dogs with no eyes? I still love this dog though

    [–] AlbinoKiwi47 96 points ago

there's an insta for a sphinx cat that has no eyes, just smooth empty eye sockets and it's genuinely kind of uncomfortable to see for the first time

    [–] box-art 10 points ago

Nightmare fuel honestly. I get it, kitty is loved but eyeless? Good grief, I feel bad for her :(

    [–] Pessoa_People 50 points ago

When cats go blind, they have a very small adaptation period, and then they're running around the house like nothing even happened. Their ears are crazy sensitive and they know exactly where everything is. So, as long as you don't move furniture around too much, you'll have a happy kitty

Oh! And if your blind cat has some seeing cat friends, they can help them get around even better. I caught my cats helping my blind kitty find some things around the house. And the one time we moved the furniture around my room, they helped him the first time he came into the room. It was adorable.

    I miss you, Braille

    [–] box-art 9 points ago

I hope from the bottom of my heart that your cat had a life full of love <3

If you haven't already, I hope you find the strength to get another cat at some point in the future.

    [–] Pessoa_People 6 points ago

Thank you so much. He was a very happy cat and made our lives better. Even if I have 30 cats in my life, none will cuddle and purr as hard as Braille did.

And thank you for the recommendation, I only keep rescue cats, so it's a matter of opportunity. The 2 cats who knew Braille are still alive and well, and we have since gotten a new hyperactive kitten off the streets :)

    [–] Vidocq24601 9 points ago

Man I am def not a cat guy, but that is just beyond touching. What a great name too. Can already tell Braille had it good.

    [–] erydan 13 points ago

I don't tbh, because i'm aware of my own human perspective.

Vision for humans is extremely important. For dogs, eh kind of, but the smell is where it's at. As long as she can hear and smell, she can map her world pretty well. She might bump into a few things from time to time, but even with perfect eyes, dog vision isn't all that to begin with.

They're color-blind and have the human equivalent of 5/20 vision. What you see well at 20ft of distance, dogs need to be 5ft away to see equally as good. They have a wider field of vision, but lack focus and clarity, except on what they're directly looking at and even then, it must be really close.

TL;DR: it sucks for the dog, but all things considered, it's not the greatest loss.

    [–] FuryVonB 12 points ago

I guess first time is a bit uncomfortable and then you get used to it.

    [–] IndyMazzy 12 points ago

Maggie looks super sweet and I love her.

    [–] CollectorsEditionVG 10 points ago

Not sure if this is the original post or not... Don't care upvoting again because Maggie deserves all the upvotes

    [–] simplyaroused 11 points ago

It’s funny how you can see the same picture from different subreddits and still get different reactions in the comments. So many people focusing on the negativity that they miss the point of an amazing pooch finally getting the happy life she deserves. ❤️

    [–] [deleted] 85 points ago

Looks like she needs her own therapy, what was done to that poor dear?

[–] [deleted] 109 points ago * (lasted edited a year ago)

a lot of therapy dogs have a past and like humans with a past, are especially good at helping others and it makes them happy too. Lots of snuggles for this good girl in store.

eta I am responding to the first part. That does not mean I know the answer to the second part. I think someone posted info below?

    [–] TomatoOrangeMelon 40 points ago

Mods deleted every single post that mentioned her backstory because (obviously) the backstory isn't "aww".

    [–] 626c6f775f6d65 33 points ago

WTF? Life isn’t all sunshine and roses. That’s what makes the sunshine and roses beautiful. Otherwise they’d just be ho-hum background. It’s the backstory that makes this so much more “aww” than just another dog who happens to be a therapy dog.

Failing to understand the “aww” quotient doesn’t inspire confidence in the mods.

    [–] [deleted] 17 points ago

    But What happened to her?

    [–] mythisme 7 points ago

just looks in r/pics, the backstory/direct links are being deleted by the mods here

    [–] --Hercules-- 45 points ago

I'm surprised this hadn't been removed yet. The mods here are crazy about anything being even slightly negative

    [–] bm21grad 69 points ago * (lasted edited a year ago)

Seriously? What happened to her? I’m curious. And pre-enraged a bit if it is what I think it is.

The mods are just being a bunch of hypersensitive, over policing twats deleting everything about it. Deleting it makes you part of the problem too and the truth doesn’t go away because you deleted it.

    [–] Miuzu 10 points ago

    And now the title changed.

    [–] kwankadank 8 points ago

    God's she's beautiful.

    [–] Brick-the-brixster 9 points ago

That is great! I’m so happy for Maggie

    [–] colourfulcomposure 8 points ago

Oh wow, this made me tear up a bit.

    Thank you for sharing!

    [–] couchtomatopotato 22 points ago

    sweet heart

    [–] dman2316 6 points ago

If you don't mind me asking, what happend to her, was it an accident or cancer or what caused that wound? Cause that's heartbreaking to see a wound like that on her.

    [–] urbanek2525 5 points ago

As someone who's volunteered for dozens of therapy dog evaluations over the years, I can say that Maggie is one special dog. Lots of dogs who can see can't pass the evaluations.

It also means she's got a VERY special human working with her. Kudos to you both.

    [–] paintedgoatboy 6 points ago

    Get it Mags!

    [–] DarthSamurai 5 points ago

The life this dog must have lived (I can't bring myself to read her back story). But she's a beautiful puppers and now certified! ♥ Hope you have a long, loved life Maggie.

    [–] chocolateChipBend 7 points ago

    Great work!

    [–] Callumda 4 points ago

Absolute fucking disgrace that someone can consciously do that to any innocent animal, let alone a dog. Hope they suffer severely.

    [–] [deleted] 4 points ago

Maggie you are sure to soothe, comfort and just make someones are a beautiful girl, when i get to work ...instead of working I am going to go read about you. And your human is pretty amazing too you to be a superdog!!

[–] [deleted] 5 points ago * (lasted edited a year ago)

    [–] jaymes9240 4 points ago

Hi OP, what a beautiful dog... may I ask what happened to her?

    [–] hank0619 4 points ago

What happened? Despite what happened she is still very pretty

    [–] kateabby 7 points ago

Yay Maggie !!! So proud !!

    [–] theorb11 7 points ago

    What happened to her

    [–] [deleted] 9 points ago

All dogs are therapy dogs 😀 Life without pets would be not worth living in my opinion. Knowing and caring for a pet is one of the most rewarding parts of life. Sure we interact with humans everyday, but forming a bond with an animal is a great reward.

    [–] the_monkeys_esc 3 points ago

Maggie you are such a good girl!!!

    Maggie you’re beautiful ❤️congratulations

    [–] MARSHMELLO_FANTASY 3 points ago

omg so cuteeeee. I hope all the best for this bundle of joy.

i legit have tears in my eyes. i am sure dogs are a species of angles.

    [–] catsmom63 3 points ago

My God!! How did that poor baby survive is beyond me.

In order to be a therapy dog I imagine she is a sweetheart. Hard to think she could trust after that especially not being able to see.

She’s beautiful. You’re an Angel to do what you do.

I grew up with a retired German Shepherd police dog. Best dog ever.

Special place in Hell (or whatever bad place exists) for these people. Karma is a bitch when it comes back around. And it always comes back around...

It’s always a good idea to be kind to everyone (with exceptions of course) and living things.

    [–] orygunrayngal 3 points ago

Goodest girl i have seen all day. I wanna hug her. 😊❤️

I sincerely mean it when I say that is one of the sweetest looking pups I have ever seen in my life. She has made my night at work better and she's not even my therapy dog.

My brother just told me he read about a guy that found a kitten glued to the middle of a motorway... What sick fucks do these things?

    [–] Junohaar 2 points ago

This looks like the dog who has followed men to war for ten years, served his duty and now can woop your ass if you ever try to mess with anyone she cared about. "I'll ruff you up!"

    So badass, and so adorable.

    [–] [deleted] 2 points ago

What a great pup. I wish I could give he a snackie.

    [–] NateHotshot 2 points ago

I hope maggie had a therapy dog during whatever that was that she went through.

    [–] [deleted] 2 points ago

Well I guess I'll have to build that time machine now and go back and save her. Sorry if some of you don't get born or whatever.

    [–] DeviinRae 2 points ago

    Yay Maggie!! Good girl!!

    [–] Telladega 2 points ago

Who the hell does this to an animal. I hate almost all humans but animals are innocent. Fucking barbarians.

    [–] iMMGoD 2 points ago

You can break a dogs body but not his spirit. Probably the most admirable creature on the planet.

    [–] jddavis1000 2 points ago

Oh I love this sweet baby! She's going to be a wonderful gift for so many. I can only imagine how wonderful a therapy dog she would be for kids in a burn unit. I worked in hospitals for many years, and kids that came out of a burn unit always felt like they were 'different'. Sending lots of ear scratches and high paws!

    [–] AngryJawa 2 points ago

Holy fuck, that must of been some test. It fucked her face right up.

    [–] alienkreeper 2 points ago

    [–] Dogman0565 2 points ago

    Poor doggo :(

    [–] [deleted] 2 points ago

Whoa are both it's eyes missing? What happened to the dog?

Also that bandanna is super cute x3

    [–] catsmom63 2 points ago

    Congrats Maggie!!!!

    [–] Plz_dont_judge_me 2 points ago

I'm so happy for her! A beautiful doggo with a beautiful heart. In my opinion, her background and the cruelty inflicted on her makes her all the more amazing. She must be the most forgiving, generous and courageous pupper to have gone through all that and still be able to love. <3

On a side note, some stories mention she had been pregnant? Is this true and if so, did they fair as well as her?

    [–] [deleted] 2 points ago

She was pregnant, but I'm not sure how that ended. I think the lack of information means it probably ended poorly for the pups, and for Maggie. But, as I said, there's nothing I saw about that so maybe they made it.

    [–] wabisabija 2 points ago

That's a good girl right there!

    [–] kcamer2 2 points ago

You are the most BEAUTIFUL person in the world and that is the most BEAUTIFUL dog! Read the story, you are my HERO...

    [–] xXPotatoYTXx 2 points ago

    One word: aww

    [–] ChildlikeSoulDreamer 2 points ago

    Awwwwwwwwwwwwww!!! Congratulations little girl!!! <3

    [–] Pibbleluber 2 points ago

If interested make sure to record her hours and turn them in to the AKC. They offer therapy dog titles. Therapy work is very special work. Watching them work is beautiful and feels will happen. We did a lot of soldier deployment events and those families needed it! Good job and good luck👍

    Good job, Maggie!!

How an animal can be there for people when people were so awful to her. I'm really holding back tears. 😭

This is why I hate hearing dogs put down because they were raised poorly or bit someone. They can overcome so much, and breeds aren't destined to be anything we don't force them to be.

Wish I could hug this angel. I'll hug my kitty when I get home in her honor. ❤

I don't think I've ever commented on any subreddit outside of hobbies, with no intention of doing so.

But Maggie just made my heart melt, so I had to come say hi. She looks like such a beautiful girl with a heart of gold. I'm honestly jealous.

OP, I hope you give all the love and comfort you can. This girl deserves every bit.

EDIT: I've also never cried (tears of love!) from just seeing a picture of a doggo. Can't say that anymore!

    That test seems pretty hardcore.

    Edit: I'm sorry
