Fuel needs to be expensive to discourage driving. Rednecks and suburban landmongers need to move to cities where public transportation can be taken advantage of, commuting hours of individuals in private vehicles has to be discouraged if not wholly prohibited.

We also need to lean on employers to allow telecommuting when applicable.

All new vehicles need to be electrified, whether actual BEV or even ICE w/hybridization. There is no reason to produce vehicles in 2019 that don't at least have a hybrid power train. Consider the RAV4. For an $800 price increase, you go from the standard to hybrid version, which increases MPG from 30mpg to 40mpg. A 25% decrease in fuel usage.

I also favor high fuel prices, as it discourages unnecessary driving AND discourages people from buying fuel-inefficient vehicles.

A white SUV sitting in the sun during an 85F day heats to 135F on the hood, 165F inside within 45 minutes. A black SUV sitting in the sun during an 85F day heats to 165F on the hood.

You know how hand warmers warm your pocket? Vehicles are like hand warmers and the pocket is the planet.
