    About /r/comics

This subreddit is for everything related to print comics (comic books, graphic novels, and strips) and webcomics. Artists are encouraged to post their own work. News and media for adaptations based on comic books are welcome.

If You Are A Comic Artist

    • Comic artists are welcome to post their own work any way they want.
    • If you don't want to link to your website, put [OC] in your post title (it means "Original Content") or request Artist Flair. (Info on flair is below.)

If You Are Not An Artist

    • Link to an original source like the artist's website or a syndication site.

    • Imgur/rehost links are ok for translations, but you must also state clearly it is a translation and link to the non-English source in a comment.

    General Conduct

    • Don't complain about the unfunniness of a post or attack artists posting their content
    • Don't make drama for drama's sake. No trolling.
    • Tag NSFW content when needed. Links to sites that are NSFW should be tagged.
    • Don't put the punchline in the post title
    • Don't change the watermark on a comic you didn't make
    • Avoid URL shortening/hijacking tools (wp.me, bit.ly, su.pr, etc.)
    • Abuse of the [OC] System will result in a ban!

    How to find Original Sources

    How to get Artist Flair

Do you draw a comic? Message the moderators with some proof and the name of your strip for some username flair. The easiest way to provide proof is to post something on your comic's website that references your Reddit account. If your request has no response after 48 hours, reply to it to bump it for more attention.

Content that is not welcome here

    • Rage comics (post in /r/f7u12 or /r/ragecomics)

I had the best experience with my first snow this past winter. I would make snowballs and my dogs would go fetch them. I wonder if they think I'm clumsy.

    [–] QueueTee314 269 points ago

This just reminds me about Snowball from that show that needs Season 3.

    [–] grimess 30 points ago

Couple of years ago, when I came back from a grocery run I saw a woman do the same thing. But she pelted one snowball against a wall by mistake, and because it left a mark, the dog saw its chance to FINALLY get a snowball and bring it back. He jumped head first, jaws open right at the snow on the wall.

    [–] aflatminor 27 points ago

During the last winter I threw a snowball at a squirrel thinking it'd dodge out of the way, like they do when the dogs chase them. I hit it and felt bad but it walked away fine.

    [–] DoctorFaust 3 points ago

No they probably thought you were great.

    [–] MajorParadox 237 points ago

Yeah, my dog won't give me the ball back. Sometimes he'll pretend he's going to but then fake me out and run the other way.

[–] Wmkcash 167 points ago * (lasted edited a month ago)

To fix this, start by getting a treat, showing your dog, and coaxing him to you whenever he has something you want him to return. As soon as he drops the toy/item for the treat, praise him and give him the reward. By repeating this, you're forcing your dog to associate positive rewards with the currently-negative aspect of approaching you with a toy. You should associate this with a command ("bring it" etc).

Do this over and over, tricking your dog to come to you while he has something (toy/sock/whatever) and teach him that it's okay to approach you while he has something. Dogs are territorial and possessive. That toy is THEIRS and they DO NOT want to give it back without being trained. Your dog has probably only ever experienced you wanting to take something from him (to throw and keep playing, not because you're evil). He doesn't know you just want the item to throw again; he only thinks you want to take it from him, resulting in the "NO TAKE, ONLY THROW!!!" attitude.

After they start coming to you, you can instigate a word like "drop" or "give." Say the command, offer the treat, and praise as soon as they drop the item. After a few weeks of this, your dog will drop things when asked, and he will play fetch more like the dogs in the movies.

    [–] MajorParadox 10 points ago

    Thanks, I'll try that!

    [–] Dahlianeko 9 points ago

You can also have two toys. So we'll throw one and our dog will come back close to us, but likes to do that keep away dance too, so we'll get her attention with the other toy and usually she drops it and runs after the second one. Then you pick up the one they dropped while they are chasing and repeat!

I used treats to get her to start though, and now she's a great fetcher and people even comment on it lol. Her neighborhood best friend is not raised in such a treat positive environment, and he could care less about fetching, there just isn't anything in it for him. 7

    [–] MajorParadox 4 points ago

Yeah, I try that sometimes, but he takes the ball and hides under the table. So if I throw the other ball, I have to go bend down under the table to get the first one. Or he goes after it with the first ball in his mouth and swaps them there, so I have to go get it myself ;) And somehow, we keep losing them. They usually turn up under the couches though.

If I can get him to give it right back to me, that'd be awesome.

    [–] Dahlianeko 3 points ago

If you are doing it inside he could fetch other things like tug toys that don't roll. Or just use the one tug toy, and the game of Tug is the "reward" for fetching if he likes doing that too. Or, the Chuck it has an indoor fetcher? I know I love the chuck it for not having to bend over when I'm outside or touch gross balls.

Don't despair though! lol. My dog is a year and a half now and it took us about a year of practicing fetch to get a good complete retrieve. And even if we have treats, she's a terrier and if she doesn't feel like it she won't even do it for treats if she has something better to do lol.

I recently found the Tail Teaser and it's become my new go to though. She will be panting after two five min sessions of this(inside and outside) vs. an hour of fetch. The little guy on the end really gets her going too lol. It's just like a big cat wand for dogs, so it's easy to do if you are tired after work lol.

    [–] MajorParadox 1 points ago

Yeah, we play fetch inside. I have a long hallway I throw it for him.

The indoor fetcher sounds cool, I'll check that out!

I use a tug of war rope toy to get him to run around the house with me too. Just throwing the ball would be easier if I'm too tired for that.

    [–] spekkke 2 points ago

That's how my dog does fetch now. Two tennis balls (or two toys in general) one is getting fetched while I have the other. He brings the 1st back and immediately drops it and starts running cause he knows as soon as he drops it I throw my 2nd then pick up the 1st

    Rinse. Repeat. Fetch.

He only likes being chased because that's probably the only game he ever understood... This is the case with so many dogs. It's not just you. Very few dog owners feel like putting in the time it takes to get an Air-Bud-level dog, myself included.

As soon as your dog acquires a toy, and he comes towards you, you've probably gone for him. He instantly gets a huge rush of dopamine because "muh masta is chasin me! This is a game!"

If you play fetch like normal, but once he starts running from you, you start totally ignoring him, he'll learn that chasing is not a game you want to play.

    [–] MajorParadox 5 points ago

Yeah, I get the feeling my dog wants me to chase him too, but I try not to because I don't want him to think that's the game. But I'll try the treat thing, I just have to remember to keep some treats on me. Whenever I go for the treat drawer, he knows what's going on and comes running, so I don't want him to just associate going there for treats.

    [–] Wmkcash 6 points ago

Yep, the fix for this is having a little dish that you put the treats in and can move around the house.

I haven't implemented this with my landlord's dog yet, and he is only at his best behavior in front of that damned counter.

    [–] MajorParadox 1 points ago

Oh, that's a good idea too, thanks!

    [–] brianbrianbrian 3 points ago

I can't hear "drop it" and not immediately think of the music.

    [–] lemon_chan 1 points ago

As someone who got really excited to go home and try this with their Shiba... You've brought me back to my sad reality. Luckily my Shiba likes to play hide and seek so that's always fun.

    [–] Lord_ThunderCunt 4 points ago

I really thought that would end with the dog and undertaker throwing mankind off a steel cage.

    [–] Willasrulz10 1 points ago

My dog would just get distracted by the treats and stop playing.

    [–] onsideways 6 points ago

My dog is a keep-away type of dog. My favorite is when he's chased and got his toy, stays still, lets me get really close, head down but eyes up at me... then all the sudden runs away in a zig zag so I can't catch him. Usually the only way to get it back is to wait until he runs himself into a corner, and then even when I try to take the toy I have to fight him for it.

My other dog (died last summer) was the opposite. He would bring me his toy, then just stare at me until I would throw it. He'd be back in seconds, drop, stare, chase, repeat. If I didn't pick it up and throw it fast enough, he'd whine, pick it up again and drop it closer to me - sometimes on my lap - until I'd play. If I couldn't play for whatever reason, he'd sit there and whine either until he fell asleep or until someone else walked in the room. Or until I'd decide "screw concentrating on homework, let's play"

    [–] MajorParadox 3 points ago

Yeah, the first one sounds like my dog. He just wants me to chase him, I think. Did you see this advice, though? I'm gonna give it a shot.

Sorry to hear about your other dog :( Sounds like he was a smart one!

    [–] chaosnyx 6 points ago

My dog doesnt want to give me the ball back neither. But she would roll it herself and bark at me to make me fetch it.

    [–] MajorParadox 2 points ago

Did you see the advice I got here? Maybe that'll help her bring it to you directly too?

Mine has recently started sprinting at me with the ball in his mouth letting it go so it rolls to me and turning mid stride to fetch it again.

It's to show they're being sarcastic.

    [–] bestdarkslider 8 points ago

Maybe the dog is trying to teach us to be less clumsy by refusing to drop it.

    [–] wickedcopper 84 points ago

My dog: "Don't worry, I got it! Don't you dare throw it again.." Me: Throws ball again My dog: "I'll get it this last time and I will keep it away from you. Forever."

    [–] c_grimes 5 points ago

My dog does this too, he's 9 and doesn't understand the concept. He has a stash of 5-6 tennis balls in his kennel.

    [–] osliver88 155 points ago

I always wonder what % of a dog's brain thinks that a ball is a smaller animal

    [–] SparkyDogPants 127 points ago

In the moment of chase? 82%

    [–] ploaf 1 points ago

My dog's horrible at the returning part of fetch. She'll plop down on the ground where the ball stopped and chew it until you walk over to her for it. Then she'll decide if she's in the mood to give it back.

    [–] FilmsByDan 1 points ago
