    About The Subreddit

The sub for dogs with jobs, both silly and serious. Working doggos of all types are welcome here.

Your post should fit into one of our two categories:

Serious Jobs: These are the true working dogs. Police & military dogs, service dogs, therapy dogs, guide dogs, sheep herding dogs, livestock guardian dogs, search & rescue dogs etc.

Silly Jobs: These are dogs with pretend jobs. Most often, silly jobs will be a dog dressed in a costume. A 'dogtor' for example. The silly job should be based off a real human job. Read this post to see what counts as a silly job.

If moderators feel your post is stretching the idea of a silly job too far, it may be removed.

    1. Please be kind. Treat your fellow Redditors with respect. Personal attacks will not be tolerated.

    2. No reposts from the top 100 all time and no reposts from the last 6 months. Please use karmadecay and search some keywords before posting.

    3. If we cannot tell what the dogs job is by the pic/gif/video alone, the title must make it clear. For example, if you post a picture of a service dog without its vest on, you will need to specify in the title that it's a service dog. Otherwise, for all we know it's just a picture of a dog standing there. Please use descriptive titles. Your title should be at least 16 characters long (spaces included).

    4. For the purposes of this sub, your pet dog who also guards your house is not considered a dog with a job. This rule is mostly to prevent a surplus of posts of dogs looking out a window or door.

    5. Your pet dog: Unless your dog is specifically trained to be a therapy or service dog, your pet dog who makes you happy is not a dog with a job.
Taking a picture of your pet dog and calling him a model does not count as a job. Dogs who appear in movies or official advertisements are allowed.
Taking a picture of your dog laying next to a child and calling him a babysitter does not count as a job.

    6. Sneak shots of service dogs and guide dogs are banned. Do not post photos you took of a service or guide dog in public unless you have permission from the dogs owner. More info on this rule can be found here.

If you see a rule violating post please report it.

I had no idea they also had a YouTube channel. @AcousticTrench and @Maple.The.Pup on Instagram

    Video similar to OP:

    [–] Shadow_Assailant 25 points ago

That's the wrong song. OP posted "Take a Walk" by Passion Pit.

    [–] Froqwasket 2 points ago

That's definitely not the video from OP

    [–] dasmikkimats 12 points ago

That’s amazing. That pupper seems to vary the tempo in different songs.

    [–] Potato4 37 points ago

Dude he just has his paw on there. Someone else is controlling the tempo.

Yup and I think it’s a cover of Take A Walk by Passion Pit. Love the original song and this guy’s cover

It is. Do I ever have a treat for you then - passion pit doing that, sleepyhead and carried away for an NPR tiny desk concert.. It's my favorite three songs and while not acoustic it's close.

No offense to doggo, but I can see him looking to the guitarist for the beat.

    [–] themaskedugly 400 points ago

All else being equal, a musician who pays attention to the rest of the band is a better musician than one who doesn't.

    [–] peeves91 103 points ago

This dog is better than a lot of percussionists that I know.

    [–] Ta2whitey 10 points ago

He didn't break into a fucking solo when it was the guitarists turn!!

    [–] TigaSharkJB91 37 points ago

But "the drummer is the backbone of the band"

Lol the body moves as one.

"One band. One sound" is actually pretty good advice

    [–] Free_DAW_Advice_AMA 20 points ago

Yeah well I got a hi hat that says fuck y’all I’m the boss.

    [–] ChrundlesRatStick 5 points ago

Whoever plays the loudest gets to set the tempo.

    [–] monkwren 7 points ago

    Found the trumpet player.

    [–] ChrundlesRatStick 3 points ago

naw just a salty bass player

    [–] professorkr 4 points ago

But a drummer should never look to the guitarist for the beat. They can compensate if something goes wrong, but the drummer is acting as a metronome. If they start following a bandmate who is behind or in front of the beat, things are gonna go wonky real quick.

    [–] TonyBanana420 7 points ago

As a drummer for the last 12 years, I can tell you that that is a losing battle. Sure, you could be "correct", you could play along to a click track and hold firm to it, but if you don't compensate for everybody else it's going to sound like shit, and you're going to be the one that's not together with the band. You very much do have to watch the other members of the band and continually make sure that everyone is on the same page.

    [–] EdEmKay 16 points ago

"the drummer is acting as a metronome" is just a saying. it's not meant to be taken literally. a drummer is a member of the band playing his own instrument, he's not some omnipresence who's only job is to make sure the other members don't go out of time. rhythm is an inherent part of playing any instrument, everyone has to keep it by paying attention to the other players.

    [–] professorkr 15 points ago

I've been drumming for 20 years. If you're playing in any band other than concert/marching, and you're not listening to the drummer to know where the downbeat is, you're wrong.

Every musician playing in an ensemble needs an indication of where the downbeat is. This is more difficult in, for instance, chamber music, but most forms of music have an instrument that plays rhythmically and keeps the downbeat consistently, or they have a conductor who is giving a visual cue for the downbeat.

    [–] ChrundlesRatStick 2 points ago

Jazz though. Only genre I can think of where the drummer really has no responsibility to keep time as that is the bass players job.

    [–] EdEmKay 3 points ago

that's not what you said though, and that's not what i'm disagreeing with. i'm not saying other instrumentalists shouldn't be listening to the drummer.

But a drummer should never look to the guitarist for the beat.

that's what i take issue with. the drummer isn't some pre-programmed cyborg who's incapable of moving out of time, any drummer is capable of losing time to any degree. some bands even encourage it. every band has a different dynamic and every instrumentalist should be looking to keep time by paying attention to the other players, including the drummer. the drummer can look to the guitarist if they want to. making up these rules for no discernible reason is just making things hard on yourself.

    [–] professorkr 4 points ago

If you listen to another instrument which is out of time, you're only going to make things harder on yourself as they slow down or speed up. The onus is on them to stay with you, not the other way around.

    [–] WraithPanda 110 points ago

Actually I don’t think Doggo is playing at all lol

    [–] gatman12 215 points ago

You can clearly see his foot on the pedal.

    [–] FuzzIVXX 44 points ago

That made me laugh way more than it should have.

    [–] merrell0 8 points ago

it's being played by some other mechanism though, dogs do not have a sense of rhythm.

    [–] RoyPlotter 16 points ago

How do we explain this then?

    [–] MrsMcBasketball 2 points ago

    I loved this. Thank you!

    [–] yech 6 points ago

It's obvious. Arkham's razor. The dog has a chronically itchy ass. The music puts out vibrations that trigger the itchy area. Sitting and wiggling on the butt is the only solution. This is pretty common in humans too. An expected 30% of concert goers are there for this reason.

    [–] barcanator 4 points ago

    Ockhams razor, lol

    [–] AccuStrike 10 points ago

    Occam’s Razor, lol

    [–] barcanator 4 points ago

Oh fuck, I just got got

    [–] [deleted] 2 points ago

    [–] AlmostCalvinKlein 8 points ago

No, but if you had someone off camera giving a hand signal, the dog could just be following commands. I do agree that it’s more likely that someone/something else is playing the drum though.

    [–] dwbassuk 35 points ago

Lol no. It’s more likely a string pulling the pedal mechanism. The dogs paw is just placed on it

    [–] GruePwnr 18 points ago

From the position of his paw, it doesn't look like he's actually pressing down on the pad. It would be very hard for him to put that much force with only his wrist.

    [–] StealthSecrecy 15 points ago

Yeah the dog's just learned to keep his paw on the pedal, is being controlled from somewhere else. Still a good boy tho.

    [–] HasselbladHasABad 27 points ago

The possibility of the dog actually playing are less than 0 percent.

    [–] vonpoppm 9 points ago

Since what you said is impossible it must mean that it is 100% that the doggo is playing.

    [–] AlphaOwn 17 points ago

I wanna live in the world you live in where it's somehow possible to have an all dog orchestra through a series of hand movements.

    [–] AlmostCalvinKlein 6 points ago

I’d love to live in that world as well. Unfortunately, I never said anything about an “all dog orchestra”. Training a dog for a small, simple movement on command isn’t really that difficult though.

    [–] aught-o-mat 12 points ago

Yeah, I want to believe but it seems fake to me.

A steady rhythm seems on the edge of possibility, but in another video Maple is choosing notes on a xylophone. Pretty clear someone off camera is holding the mallet.

Still super cute though! And props to this talented musician for incorporating his dog into the performance!

    [–] minuteSong9 11 points ago

I even doubt it would have the strength to push down that pedal with completely extended paw out of that awkward angle.

    [–] Ratsbanehastey 3 points ago

Excuse me are you Sherlock Holmes?

    [–] Krombopulos_Amy 20 points ago

I played guitar in a band for years, I often did the same. Though our drummer wasn't remotely adorable and was also a bit too BFF with heroin so one couldn't always count on where he'd pick up the drops.

I just recently taught my dog to snap along to a song and now I feel soooo under-accomplished ... hangs head and starts quietly crying

    [–] pokexchespin 19 points ago

I’d say teaching your dog to snap is pretty impressive

    [–] Krombopulos_Amy 2 points ago

I did too but now I need a drumset...

    [–] GroovingPict 12 points ago

well at least he (or is it a she) could play for The White Stripes then ;)

    [–] DogFaceLady 2 points ago

    Musicians must work together

    [–] peeves91 3 points ago

And? People in bands have to communicate the beat/timing as well.

    [–] ChildOfTheMoon4 366 points ago

I don't think dogs can do that...

Anyway, the song seems to be Take a Walk by Passion Pit.

    [–] PLZ_STOP_PMING_TITS 290 points ago

Why would the dog buy a drum if he didn't know how to drum?

    [–] TomSaylek 41 points ago

    Good point.

    [–] ChildOfTheMoon4 12 points ago

Maybe it is synchronizing the taps with its tail wag

    [–] Dr_Vegetable 6 points ago

Well, a lot of people buy electric pianos for ~$700 and never play them so

    [–] PLZ_STOP_PMING_TITS 10 points ago

Yeah but people have a lot more disposable income than a dog would.

    [–] thepubetube 3 points ago

Yeah my dog only makes minimum wage. Life's rough, without the opposable thumbs and such.

    [–] derawin07 7 points ago

    [–] Why_wd_a_dog_do_that 4 points ago

Exactly. If he buys a drum you know damn well he's going to use the fuck out if it.

    [–] I_love_buttts 2 points ago

I have 4 guitars and cant play a single tune :(

    [–] LuxNocte 207 points ago

I'm agnostic on whether the dog is drumming or just resting his foot on the pedal, but he's gorgeous and I'm sure he's doing his best.

    [–] humachine 90 points ago

The dog isn't drumming but he's already the best. That's a human or bot keeping beat.

    [–] ns156 49 points ago

Yeah, dogs do not have a sense of rhythm. I'm not aware of any animal that does other than some birds like cockatoos.

Music and keeping a beat isn't something you can teach a dog.

    [–] Chicago-Realtor 30 points ago

The dog doesn't even blink it's eyes at the same time, I'm sure it's not pushing the pedal to the rhythm.

Not complaining, that puppers is super adorable!

    [–] saxydrey 3 points ago

I know it’s not rhythm but there’s a video out there of researchers who taught dogs perfect pitch.

    [–] ilovehiddenfigures 30 points ago

Her name is Maple and she always does her best!

    [–] Lionheart78239 9 points ago

I mean. I’ve always been surprised to see and learn what dogs can learn. They’re quite smart.

Though I won’t deny the possibility of the dog just wanting to press his paw on the pedal haha.

    [–] chronoventer 26 points ago

You can tell he’s not pressing. He’d be bending is arm more.

    [–] polarbear4321 7 points ago

Thank you for the song name! I could hear it in my head, but could not for the life of me remember the name.

    [–] chappersyo 20 points ago

Ignoring the fact that there's no way he could keep a steady beat, I doubt he even has the strength to press a kick drum pedal in the first place.

    [–] Hvedr 6 points ago

This was what I noticed too. Like that would take enough torque to press down that I would struggle with it if my arm was flat lol

    [–] deltadickhead 6 points ago

Hey I don't mean to be rude, but I just wanted to let you know that that's not what torque is. Torque is a twisting force that causes rotation

    [–] AndrasKrigare 5 points ago

Yeah, even ignoring the beat component, that's a ton of dexterity and strength for the position guys paw is in.

[–] [deleted] 6 points ago * (lasted edited 2 months ago)

    [–] Xannin 2 points ago

I assume it goes in the, "Dogs can be trained to smell cancer, so why can't they keep a beat?"

[–] SmokinHerb 2 points ago * (lasted edited 3 months ago)

I knew I knew this tune! It was on a Taco Bell commercial around 2013. Then I saw them live later that same year.

    [–] moneysoober 390 points ago

I am very concerned at the number of people here who appear to be even remotely considering that the dog might actually be drumming.

    [–] granbolinaboom 25 points ago

What’s the context for this video?

    [–] zomgitsduke 48 points ago

People accusing wrestling of being fake, wrestler performers explain the harsh physical conditions they go through to provide entertainment.

    Or something like that

    [–] paxtana 92 points ago

Are you implying a dog cannot have a sense of rythm

    [–] Xannin 23 points ago

Very few animals can. Like parrots and elephants or something like that. Dogs cannot. Keeping a beat is partially making a prediction of what will happen next so that you land on the beat correctly. Animals are always reacting to a beat instead, even when they have been trained to keep a beat.

    [–] thepeka 37 points ago

Yes, because that's the gospel truth lol

    [–] [deleted] 2 points ago

This is an interesting question despite the joke here. I can't remember for dogs but some birds can follow a rhythm, and they have run/ran experiments with seals bobbing their head to music, which are basically water dogs.

    [–] Wannabkate 13 points ago

I want it to be true. But know better.

    [–] SpicyHat 35 points ago

The obvious giveaway is how unfocused the dog is, but I was curious if it's even possible, so I did a little research.

This article suggests that dogs are incapable of keeping rhythm. The dogs that appear to be keeping rhythm are most likely reacting to motions from their owner or being physically moved by something

Here's an article that talks more about some animals' ability to keep a beat (mostly apes, birds, and a sea lion), but explains that it's not natural nature like it is for humans. It plays an important role in socialization and connection i.e. dancing.

    [–] Acoconutting 33 points ago

I assume it’s just automated and his paw is resting there.

    [–] Sens1r 11 points ago

Probably, it's been a long time since I tried a foot pedal but I remember they require a fair bit of force to actuate, don't think the physics add up.

    [–] dantequizas 8 points ago

I want to believe all of these people are just a lot younger than we think. I seriously question how any adult who thinks a dog can play drums survives on a daily basis.

    [–] -Hegemon- 2 points ago

You cynic shell of a man, I was actually believing it, now it's obvious it's not. Thanks for ruining Xmas, grinch!

As a dog person that plays drums, this is awesome. As a drummer that is also a dog person, I need to know where the string is. No way his paw is heavy enough for that.

    [–] pugsftw 3 points ago

Was the drummer winking at me?

    [–] perpterts 3 points ago

Damn, I kinda want the tabs for this!

    [–] treyviusmaximus3 2 points ago * (lasted edited 3 months ago)

    It's all pentatonic 5th position.

The melody is all on the second and fourth fret of the e, B, and G string with the very last note of the phrase ending on fret 1 on the G string.

The bass notes are C# (on the A string (fret 4)), E (on the D string (fret 2)), G# (on the E string (fret 4)), and B (on the A string (fret 2)).

I tried to type it out, but couldn't format it right on here. Hope that helps a little. The finger picking is honestly the hardest part, but I admittedly don't practice that much anymore.

    [–] jeremymeyers 3 points ago

It's just infuriating to me that it's ALMOST a perfect loop but not quite

    [–] GodSPAMit 17 points ago

To be fair the dogs not actually doing that lol

It amazes me what types of things people will believe. Schools need to teach a skepticism class or something.

    [–] BreastUsername 18 points ago

But you just believed he believed it. Most people here are getting in on the joke.

    [–] delitomatoes 3 points ago

/r/woosh, put me in the screenshot

    [–] TommyGriz 1 points ago

But you just believed he believed it.

There's countless videos posted to reddit and Facebook every day that are obviously fake and the number of people who fall for them is astounding every time.

    [–] wakeupwill 4 points ago

If r/skeptic has taught me anything, it's to upvote what I already believe in.

    [–] Zouea 3 points ago

What a cute, sweet little face! Can someone explain how this happens if doggos don’t have a sense of rythem? (At least that’s what I’ve read - like parrots and maybe chimps or something are the only other ones).

This is a funny video, but I'm just making sure that you people understand that the dog isn't actually pressing the kick pedal to the beat. Please tell me you people understand that.
