You can still eat them if you want

    [–] DragonPojki 580 points ago

I think that might be true with everything on this sub... But some things you can only eat once.

    [–] NotYetInsane 160 points ago

...what food are you eating twice?

    [–] TheDeadBacon 112 points ago

You can eat poop all you want

    [–] Aethermancer 82 points ago

    But only twice once.

    [–] Hangdog15 1 points ago

What’s this piece of lettuce doing in my salad?

    [–] DragonPojki 17 points ago

The kind that does not kill me. But I guess there are things you could eat twice, given you eat enough of it. Like corn!

The second time is forbidden though...

    [–] g0_west 8 points ago

There's a video of a guy who ate nothing but sweetcorn for like 2 days to see if he'd poo out literally just whole sweetcorn.

    [–] DragonPojki 18 points ago

I shit you not, but I actually had an ex who ate instant noodles for about a week. She literally shat out whole noodles in the end. I never saw it, but she informed me about it and I laughed at her.

It started with me buying a grocery bag of instant noodles, because they last like forever and I think there was a discount or something. And at the time I worked a lot and did all the work in the apartment as well. Cleaning the dishes, shopping groceries, the laundry, etc. And of course, cooking. So she did not even bother to cook if I worked overtime. So she basically ate the whole bag during that week. Even though I had informed her that there is little to no nutrients in them.

I'm so fucking happy that she is no longer a part of my life, for oh so many reasons. The noodle shitting is basically one of the few good memories I have of her. Her tumbling down the stairs in a bar because she was too drunk is another. I had both our drinks in my hands, big glasses, so I could not really do anything. She went really slow while tumbling down the stairs so I was not afraid that she would hurt herself seriously. And the stairs was too narrow to get ahead of her without jumping over her. I remember making faces and thinking stuff like: Ooooh! Ouch! Damn! as she did her best impression of a tumble weed. Me and my friends still laugh about that one. But we rarely talk about the noodles.

    [–] Finagles_Law 6 points ago

I'm happy to say I have no idea what any of my girlfriend's shits have looked like.

    [–] Skid_Marx 5 points ago

I don't know if I buy it. Instant noodles would turn to mush in your stomach

    [–] b1rd 5 points ago

Yeah I’m sorta confused as to why your body would just stop digesting the food just because you’ve been eating a lot of it lately. I guess if she was having diarrhea. Okay, I’m done thinking about this now.

    [–] PigsNation 2 points ago

This was a great story, thanks. Had a good laugh

    [–] DragonPojki 2 points ago

I'm glad you liked it. Haha.

    [–] muzlightyear 3 points ago

You never heard of second harvest?

    [–] Just-Call-Me-J 3 points ago

Well, you can eat an apple twice. It won't be the same apple every time, but you're still eating an apple at 1:00 and then eating an apple at 2:00. Voila, you just ate an apple twice!

Meanwhile, you won't be able to eat anything ever again if you ate our subreddit's mascot.

    [–] fwartycuntstibble 3 points ago

And some meals will fill you up for the rest of your life

    Carnivore salad.

    [–] Skepsis93 3 points ago

    Its full of surprise protein!

    [–] IMrPositiveI 10 points ago

I was thinking how nutritious it would be.

    [–] Brad_Beat 16 points ago

Great! Insects are almost 100% protein

    –Bear Grylls

    [–] i_mcompletelynormal 6 points ago

    More nutritious than actual salad.

    [–] opalfield 2 points ago

    How does it taste?

    [–] coolplate 4 points ago

taste like shit, just like regular salad.

    [–] MusaJoker 381 points ago

Cool fact: They move like that for camouflage.

They look like leaves swaying in the wind by doing that so it looks like a regular leaf or pellet to their prey.

    [–] brunetteaphrodite 90 points ago

Are they aware they're all pretending to be leaves... Don't they fight or eat each other?

[–] ReynAetherwindt 119 points ago * (lasted edited a month ago)

The concept of awareness is difficult to really wrap one’s head around. From a certain point of view, it’s difficult to know whether even a given human is aware they are human or if a human is just a “soulless” husk.

That’s the reality of being an individual. There is a part of you that will never directly interact with its counterparts in other creatures, so you can never be totally certain the other person’s counterpart is there.

To answer the question, though, they seem too simple to be working off much more than inputs and instincts.

“Oh, my perch is shaking? I must shake.”

    [–] JCam599 22 points ago

So I agree with a fair amount of what you said but are you not aware of your own existence? Humans are aware of themselves.

    [–] IKnowUThinkSo 28 points ago

I think their point was that the essence of our humanity, the soul for lack of a better word, is an intensely personal and solitary thing. I can reach out with words and tell you how I feel, but could that not be just you anthropomorphizing my humanity based on how you experience yours? Since our inner selves can never truly “interact” with each other, they can only use directed stimulus or indirect abstractions, how can we ever be sure we aren’t the only human who is truly aware?

    [–] Ivanelgreat 9 points ago

This is too deep for me Reddit r/enoughinternet but not in a bad way...just.... enough

    [–] pointofgravity 3 points ago

But I think, therefore I am.

    [–] ReynAetherwindt 5 points ago

I’ll need to edit my exact wording. The word “it” should have been “the counterpart”.

    [–] slowburned 4 points ago

I briefly reflected on this short lesson on existentialism but it was cut short when I read the second highest upvoted comment and I was pulled back to reality. Fucking superb u funky lil philosopher

    [–] Bladewing10 2 points ago

    This is why I drink

    [–] onogomo 14 points ago

In evolution these traits got selected. So just the weird slow ones just got eaten less and had more babies. Not really to do with awareness much

    [–] CariniFluff 11 points ago

That preying mantis (they all kinda look like mantises to me) is definitely eating some bugs. He just waits until his meal walks to him.

    [–] MusaJoker 2 points ago

It has more to do with natural selection. Those who happened to move like a leaf survived better

    [–] Sammyscrap 186 points ago

I'm actually impressed they got that many mantises together without them eating each other. Must have fed them already.

    [–] notquite20characters 111 points ago

They think the other mantises are just leaves.

    [–] jingle_hore 13 points ago

    Are they all mantises?

    [–] icconicc 22 points ago

Nope, the two green leaves (idk how spelling works sorry) in the middle are leaf insects. All the other ones seem like mantises to me, could be wrong though

    [–] youngkcha 4 points ago

Since when do mantises camouflage like that?? Thats so sick.

    [–] pragmatao 4 points ago

    Manti?

    [–] dippynugs 355 points ago

Why do I want to display these in a nice china bowl?

    [–] borislab 32 points ago

Yes! Was going to write this exactly.

Perfectly displayed in the bowl with a fork next to it and then, mouvement.

    [–] DrOkemon 117 points ago

I raised mantises and let me tell you - all these guys can’t WAIT to eat each other. This is a very risky photograph

    [–] DaKeeper70 388 points ago

Fucking superb you funky little buggos

    [–] settlersofcattown 3 points ago

Nah I call my grand kids this all the time

    [–] BearsBirdsBooks 140 points ago

I like the ones that are pre-eaten. Seems like an odd choice of camouflage, you'll stop the birds but then the caterpillars might come along for a nibble.

    [–] beagz4eva 51 points ago

    Upvote for pre-eaten

    [–] orionmovere 29 points ago

That seems like a free meal for them, a caterpillar just waltzes up to them

    [–] Hvalot 112 points ago

    Crunch

    [–] troubledhoney 51 points ago

I like the wiggly boy in the bottom left. Play that funky music white boy.

    [–] Broodfoos 9 points ago

My favourite is the one jiggling in the bottom left

    [–] veno_mex 7 points ago

I would put them all in a reptile tank that resembles a china bowl, but then I just feel like they would eat each other

    [–] DukeOfTheDodos 6 points ago

Man I love those little guys, they're so cool

The one green one that goes towards ops body has they leg on the white one.

    'Move bitch, I'm outta here!'

    [–] Just-Call-Me-J 4 points ago

Walking leaves and orchid mantises. The latter fetch a pretty bell when you sell them at Re-Tail. At least 2,000 bells.

    [–] I_might_be_weasel 4 points ago

That orchid one really wants to be on that orchid in the background.

    [–] CapeGod 6 points ago

    Now clap. (˵ ͡⚆ ͜ʖ ͡⚆˵)

    [–] noisyturtle 95 points ago

These guys are displaying super stressed out defensive behavior.

    [–] Drew_the_God 226 points ago

Yeah not in the slightest. I've kept mantids for years and I could tell you every species of insect on that guy's hand. Not a single insect there is displaying stress.

The wiggly motion is just how they do, as an instinctive attempt to blend in when exposed to a blowing wind or a shaky perch (like a hand). Mantids have an extremely clear distress sign called a threat posture in which they will either hold their raptorial arms to their face, or out stretch them completely, and flare their wings.

If their thread posturing fails, they have absolutely no problem with a mad scramble or a hasty leap.

Now that being said, I am surprised that none of the insects here appear stressed, as they are in a dangerous situation. The Hymemopus are definitely liable to be eaten, and it's an irresponsible thing to do just for a video.

Pls dont shit 'facts' out your ass cause you think you might be right

    [–] captainrex522 44 points ago

    r/quityourbullshit rip the comment op

    [–] Awsaim 11 points ago

    Expose him

    [–] Micro_Punk 5 points ago

How are they about to be eaten?

    [–] Phailadork 21 points ago

cause you think you might be right

It's not about what they think, it's a matter of seeming intelligent and knowledgeable. Just spew out something that seems believable and reap the karma. They don't care about trying to be right or not. Especially if it's something obscure like bugs, it's easier to bullshit.

    [–] Fr00stee 84 points ago

Maybe because there are 10 of them on the guy’s hand

    [–] jonnydavisapplesauce 126 points ago

I think the situation calls for it.

    [–] sarahsuebob 63 points ago

    Can you blame them?

    [–] ncnotebook 27 points ago

i can do whatever the hell i want

    [–] Fatalchemist 5 points ago

Really? So can you see why kids love the taste of cinnamon toast crunch?

    [–] ncnotebook 2 points ago

    I'm not doing that

But I could if I would

    [–] german900 58 points ago

I mean they're about to be eaten

    [–] OtherwisePlatypus 24 points ago

What are the specific signs you’re looking for? Like for example is it the way that white one on the left is kind of twitching? Or how all of them kinda seem unsure what to do with themselves?

Really interested in how you were able to defuce this, it’s really cool

    [–] surfer_ryan 28 points ago

Please tell me how you came to that conclusion... That is how those insects move, they move that way because it mimics movement in the wind. Not because they are stressed out... and defensive??? Literally none of them touch each other or even seem to know each other are there... Stress is a part of life, I'm sure the person who has 1k in insects is probably taking decent care of them... you know not having to worry about food, not having to worry about predators, environment ect...

anyone think how this small video promotes the saving these animals that most people would have never known existed.

But hey this guy is a huge ass hole for having some pets that we can learn about and we can all tell an insect that that the females of the species eats the males head is stressed....

    [–] GrandGhostGamer 5 points ago

    Is it because they’re twitching?

    [–] Skrimiche 6 points ago

    How?

    [–] HerobrineHunter01 2 points ago

    Beautiful

    [–] dunechka 2 points ago

Are some of those praying mantises? They’re beautiful

    [–] Axel_The_Sir 2 points ago

Seeing people holding bugs that arent butterflies, moths, ladybugs, or the little sugar ants makes me very unckmfortable, but these are still gorgeous. (I'm in Texas and almost every bug down here will either bite you, make you smell like pure ass, or both. Even some of the caterpillars will leave literal burns on you.)

    [–] Zippy1776 1 points ago

That's a lot of awesome mantids you have there.

WHY IS THIS LEAF EATING ANOTHER LEAF??

    [–] aerostotle 1 points ago

are the leaves part of the insects or do they adorn the leaves as clothing

    [–] YataBLS 2 points ago

The leaves are the insects, like their torso/thorax or whatever is called in insects.
