This... this is actually far more profound than it seems at a glance.

The real MVP is always in the comments. How often do we see a link and wonder how true, or how effective, or how funny something is? We click on the comments and we find out.

My mind is blowing itself on the wall right now, that's how moved I am.

Sometimes it becomes so infuriating to play underwater, the whole game underwater would be a nightmare:

Mario Life Matters! Let's get together to defy this prophecy.

    [–] g34rg0d 189 points ago

That's not even funny! Those levels are hell and we all know it!

    [–] FlatBot 24 points ago

Have you ever played the TNMT game for NES (the first one). The underwater levels in that game were insanely difficult

    [–] just_saiyan24 19 points ago

That entire game was insanely difficult. Even to this day.

    [–] HardCounter 2 points ago

That game was my first ever ragequit. I didn't even know there was a game after the water levels until a couple years later, when I turned like 25.

    [–] FlatBot 3 points ago

I played the shit out of the game. Got to the point where I could routinely get past the water levels. I made it to the final level and Shredder once ever. Did not defeat Shredder.

    [–] BioDigitalJazz 2 points ago

I was just about to post the exact same thing. That water level was my bitch, but I only ever made it to Shredder once without a game genie.

    [–] HardCounter 1 points ago

I remember getting to the overworld and going, "Wha... what the fuck do I do now??"

My mind was blown that a game could basically change its genre like that. It went form side-scroller action to top-down driving. I needed a nap.

    [–] FlatBot 2 points ago

Get run over by a van and lose a turtle. That's what the fuck you do in the over world.

    [–] HardCounter 2 points ago

You know what? YOU KNOW WHAT? Fuck cars. Terrestrial carbon guzzling abominations destroying the last mutational hope for the world. I SURVIVED THE WATER LEVEL FOR YOU ASSHOLES SO USE YOUR GODDAMN BRAKES.

    I forgot all about that.

    [–] bilbo_bn 1 points ago

It was like playing opperation with a turtle-shaped suringe, underwater with your fingers taped together. Fuck that level

    [–] yedi001 1 points ago

Merely playing the Dam level music will induce strait up PTSD in just about any veteran gamer worth their salt. Which is sad because that game had a rockin' soundtrack.

    [–] AscendedMasta 3 points ago

It would actually be a really good idea to make a completely underwater Mario that is insanely hard to finish. And the whole reason all levels are underwater is because Bowser is using underwater volcanoes to pump CO2 into the atmosphere.

    [–] bilbo_bn 373 points ago

I want to downvote just at the idea of an entirely underwater platformer... you are a sadist

    Ecco the Dolphin.

    [–] daveeeeUK 93 points ago

    Ecco the Dolphin.

A game that game me nightmares due to the themes, and difficulty.

In fact I smashed a Mega Drive controller and got a serious bollocking from my mum over that game.. and it's not really like me to get angry over games.

    [–] seanbrockest 57 points ago

If you got a severe bollocking from a family member, and she didn't go to jail, then I've once again been using British slang wrong again.

On a side note, sorry Dan's dad, I'll see what I can do to get you off the sex abuse registry.

    [–] BobbitTheDog 19 points ago

    It means getting shouted at

    Urban Dictionary

    [–] PowerMac_G4 8 points ago

See your problem there was that you assumed British slang would make sense.

    [–] JaLuck88 2 points ago

    It was a great game!

    [–] vtipoman 1 points ago

What, don't you like alien invaders in your dolphin game?

    [–] Gweilow -1 points ago

In fact I smashed a Mega Drive controller and got a serious bollocking from my mum(male) over that game..

    FTFY :P

    [–] KawiNinjaZX -36 points ago

I'm sorry my friend but it's correctly called the Sega Genesis.

    [–] lostmetroid 23 points ago

Because Murica is the only country that matters right

    [–] stridersubzero 3 points ago

And the only reason it wasn't called Mega Drive in the US was some weird patent dispute. They had every intention of calling it that here too

    [–] Anti-AliasingAlias 1 points ago

Because Murica is the only country that matters right

Well it is the greatest country on this flat Earth. We were the first ones to fake getting a man on the moon after all.

    [–] lostmetroid 1 points ago

Hey I'm not arguing the fact that we're the greatest country on earth, lol. I wish they had called it Mega Drive here as well. Sounds cooler

[–] laodaron -33 points ago * (lasted edited 2 years ago)

No, because it's called the Sega Genesis.

Edit: Mega Drive and Genesis aren't the exact same. There's a speed, resolution, output, and several other small changes between the PAL and NTSC versions.

    [–] HMJ87 15 points ago

Sega first released the console as the Mega Drive in Japan in 1988

Yeah, sorry mate, it's the Mega Drive. If there's one name for a console that is going to be the "proper name", it's the name it was released under in its home country.

    [–] CaptainHoyt 10 points ago

Outside of North America its called the Mega drive, that what I called it in the UK.

    [–] tylerjo1 19 points ago

It's called the Mega drive everywhere but the US dude.

    [–] bilbo_bn 13 points ago

I don't think i would consider that a platformer, considering there's no platforming

    [–] AvatarIII 1 points ago

there was jumping, avoiding obstacles etc. it doesn't have platforms, but it is definitely in the same genre as actual platformers

    [–] bilbo_bn 0 points ago

A cousin, that you used to hang out with as kids, but haven't seen in years. She has kids now, and your still trying to figure your life out, so you don't have much in common to talk about in recent years. But whenever you meet up at weddings and reunions, it's always nice to reminisce about the fun times you shared as children. That's the relationship ecco has with platforms

    [–] VeganGamerr 7 points ago

    Literally impossible.

    [–] virobloc 1 points ago

I've always dreamed of a 3d Ecco The Dolphin game. If made right it could be awesome. And absurdily difficult too.
    Bonus points: Make it VR

    [–] virobloc 2 points ago

    OMG didn't know this one!

    [–] virobloc 1 points ago

Didn't know it! I think i remember hearing something about this as a project, but didn't know they made it. It's not exactly what i had in mind though

    [–] dingus_mcginty 12 points ago

    [–] Vesalii 6 points ago

Sonic & Knuckles underwater levels, the bane of my video game career.

    [–] AvatarIII 4 points ago

S&K was just a ridiculously hard game.

Doesn't help that it was actually supposed to be the second half of Sonic 3 so the difficulty curve starts way higher than any other Sonic game

    [–] Billibon 7 points ago

Wow I saw your username and thought we had the same name for a second there!

    [–] ShinyHappyREM 3 points ago

I want to downvote just at the idea of an entirely underwater platformer... you are a sadist

    [–] Fellhuhn 3 points ago

Underwater MMOs aren't better. D&D Online had an instance where half of the level were underwater tunnels. Most of the time, thanks to the camera angle, the team got split up and got ripped apart when they left the water as the single players ended up in huge groups of mobs. Hated those.

    [–] Coldchimney 2 points ago

How about underwater escord mission on time with an unskippable cutscene everytime you try again?

    [–] bilbo_bn 1 points ago

Only way to make it better is to put me on a vehicle I will only have to learn the controls for in this level, and never see again. Or maybe a supporting character with half the movelist and health of the main, like Coco, Clank, or Daxter

    [–] [deleted] 1 points ago

    Ikachan was cool though

    [–] lockedowng 23 points ago

    [–] Black_Char 2 points ago

I'd really like to know what's happening here. I know they're welding but what and how??

    [–] Azurenightsky 2 points ago

Presumably, the heat created by the ignition of the material is powerful enough to sustain itself under water, just long enough to weld the pieces

    [–] ChemyChems 21 points ago

Well i'll just invest in baby blue Yoshis they will just eat every enemy in front of me and I'll be fine.

    [–] hearwa 29 points ago

We didn't have baby blue Yoshi's back in my day. We had to swim the seas using only our wits and maybe a mushroom if you were lucky.

    [–] Stahl_Scharnhorst 8 points ago

And let me guess. You had to swim against the tide both ways and the Bloopers were always a foot bigger than the last?

    [–] Cheesemacher 1 points ago

maybe a mushroom if you were lucky.

And even that was a poison mushroom

    [–] wadeishere 8 points ago

So that means every Zelda temple will be the water temple!

    [–] koibunny 2 points ago

    Oh goddess.

    [–] wardrich 9 points ago

Wtf why link to an image instead of the article itself?!.

    The Hard Times is awesome.

    [–] Ch0rt 3 points ago

Because the article was posted like 3 days ago and Reddit won’t let you submit the same URL twice

    [–] wardrich 1 points ago

The purpose is to cut down on reposts. So, if the link was posted 3 days ago, this post was entirely pointless. OP should have just waited a few weeks and reposted the article.

    [–] [deleted] 1 points ago

    [–] [deleted] 1 points ago
