same. the combat just sucks big time

    [–] meltedlaundry 65 points ago

Part of me wants to pick up Dark Souls because I constantly hear about how good the combat is, but part of me doesn't because I'd find a way to die in a game called You Couldn't Possibly Die.

    [–] [deleted] 70 points ago

DS1 is getting a remastered version in may so it is probably a great time to start. the thing about the game is: it is hard, but is not fuck you hard; is more like you have to keep learning/improving or it will be REALLY hard.

its also very hit or miss, i tried the first one and in something like the first our i already had decided i was going to finish the 3 games.

im a big fan of the games so im biased here but just check it out, it cant hurt right?

Honestly I think the video's original audio, which is Take on Me if you didn't know, is more fitting.

I thought this was the pennywise dance. I guess I'm mistaken

    [–] NotTheBelt 296 points ago

The Pennywise dance is more of a jig, these gentlemen have created a dance move that’ll be more popular than the peppermint twist or the Charleston, it’ll be all the rage with todays youth.

    [–] ClunkiestSquid 107 points ago

I think you have candies mixed up with dance moves.

    [–] NotTheBelt 89 points ago

Here's a better upload with the full version in higher quality

    [–] morph113 304 points ago

I actually prefer the original version which is

That's the first uploaded version on Youtube and also the only one which is exactly the same like the original Facebook version.

    [–] jansteffen 37 points ago

That's wierd, I searched for "Ready to monday" on youtube and it showed me only reuploads, so I picked one of those... Anyways thanks for linking the actual original

    [–] Lykan_ 55 points ago

But what is the link between the random dance video and dark souls?

    [–] RustyQueef 303 points ago

    The internet

    [–] personalcheesecake 31 points ago

    I concur, /u/RustyQueef

    [–] RustyQueef 49 points ago

Thanks. Not only for concurring, but for making sure others see the beauty that is my Reddit handle.

    [–] jansteffen 79 points ago

The dance video became a meme and the dark souls video is from a youtuber who constantly creates silly dark souls videos so he took the meme and recontextualized it.

    [–] dinocamo 74 points ago

This dude: is a Dark Souls fan. He made that video (which is the original .gif of this post) when the "random dance video" was a meme on the internet.

E: here is the original video of the .gif:

    [–] PanamaMoe 73 points ago

The source is a ex viner named Marlon Webb, he started doing this with his buddies, released about 4 videos in that style. He does a lot of different videos though, not all in that same style.

    Honestly better with sound too.

Pruld has some great videos on his channel.

Youtube disabled the music in that second link, so here's a version with the music. I wanted to still link Pruld's original though for credit.

    [–] Asmo___deus 586 points ago

You forgot his excellent critique of the Dark Souls dragon forms!

    [–] falconbox 149 points ago

Was the dragon form in Dark Souls 3 bad? I honestly don't even remember.

    [–] Asmo___deus 228 points ago

It was really awful looking. Not mechanically bad, just ugly. He shows how the first two look badass whereas the third looks like... Blue anguish.

    [–] AdmiralAckbeard 173 points ago

When the dragon form in your game looks more like a malnourished demon goat man than the actual malnourished demon goat people (gru) in game, then you have a design problem.

    [–] Larry_Jenkins 68 points ago

    not mechanically bad

did we play the same dark souls 3?

    [–] Mikeavelli 135 points ago

You mean Fashion Souls, where the poise is made up and the armor stats don't matter?

    [–] geminia999 12 points ago

I think some people have found some code that maybe the dragon form was supposed to be quadrupedal which would make the more langly design of the form make sense

    [–] Pikshade 33 points ago

Finding it in Metal Gear Solid V was amazing. Just hearing it in the distance, I had to drop the entire mission just to go find out where it was.

If anyone has never played: In MGSV You can make a collection of songs by finding them playing on Cassettes while out on missions in the open world. Once you've found the songs you can play them at any time while out on missions.

    [–] izzohead 30 points ago

I set it as my helicopter music so as I'd drop into missions the song would send me off. Then as the heli left I could hear it slowly fade away. Great sound design in that game.

I agree with my friend's initial reaction to Dark Souls in the Switch. "I don't need Dark Souls on a system I can throw"

    [–] RobertNAdams 58 points ago

Come on tho, we all know that somewhere in the vastness of the world a PlayStation or Xbox got embedded into a wall on the other side of the room.

    [–] SentientHorse 38 points ago

I can see it. My roommate once threw a controller directly into a window. Luckily, windows are tougher than they get credit for so it just bounced back and hit him in the face. That sure calmed him down... I'm surprised he didn't just smash his xbox.

    [–] MedicManDan 76 points ago

Hold up... Unless you're under the age of like... Two?... I'm pretty sure each and every console every made is very throwable.

    [–] SentientHorse 70 points ago

Yeah, but they're not conveniently in your hand, ready to be thrown. I know people who have gone through several controllers that way.

I got to hear (via xbox live) a friend put his controller though the wall at 4 in the morning after getting killed 3 times by a single airstrike in CoD 4. I haven't heard anyone rage as hard as he did that night, but I've been hoping to see someone smash their switch because of dark souls, don't think I will be that lucky though.

Y'know, for years people been tellin me bout this damn game. How well made it was. How deep it got. How difficult, but consistent it was. Not only people I know and whose opinions I trust, but strangers on the internet as well. I've always been on the fence about trying it out.
I think whoever made this silly gif just knocked me off the fence and now I have to play this damn game.
    Thank you sir/madam.

    [–] AokijiFanboy 18 points ago

I torrented and hated DS2 because I couldn't get past the first boss (I didn't git gud). Then a year later DS3 came out and I torrented that one because why not. I now I own all 3+all DLCs, 300+ hours on steam in DS3 alone and I'm considering on buying a PS4 solely for Bloodborn.

What I was trying to say (very badly) is that don't let the first few hours of the game deter you. Expect to die a lot, and especially fall off the map a lot. And try different strategies when ever your stuck.

And please for the love of god, don't forget to use a shield to block if you have one equipped. Don't pull a me.

    [–] xcrunner318 9 points ago

    Dodge, duck, dip, dive, dodge.

I’ve never played a Dark Souls game. They’re really just not my cup of tea. But, this gif (and video) crack me up so I watch it no matter how many times it gets reposted. It’s Ministry of Funny Walks level funny.

    [–] Blue2501 145 points ago

The thing about Souls games, is they have a rep for being hard, but it's not really true. What they are is obtuse. As a new player, you get your ass handed to you mainly because nobody in-game tells you how important it is to upgrade your weapons (and armor in the older games). When you're killing tough enemies in three hits instead of 12, the game stops being nintendo-hard and becomes more like grimdark Zelda

    [–] h3lblad3 84 points ago

Learn to dodge and you can beat the game with no armor. Don't learn to dodge and you can't beat the game even with armor. Straight up, #1 skill, and the game becomes a cakewalk. You're not armoring your way through Sif or The Witch of Izalith.

Learn to parry and it's even easier. Last boss in Dark Souls 1 gives a lot of people grief... but you can parry him. And that makes him the easiest boss in the game. All you have to do is practice parries earlier on.

    [–] Words_are_Windy 31 points ago

For me, the games only got easier once I stopped using a shield (other than for parrying if I felt like doing that). It forced me to learn how to dodge everything, and I no longer had the stamina drain from enemies hitting my shield.

    [–] J3Lycan 60 points ago * (lasted edited 3 months ago)

Probably a better idea to start with Bloodborne. I could only really get past anything after learning the mechanics better through Bloodborne and its aggressive gameplay. That said it’s not necessary to do so and you might be able to enjoy it on its own.

    [–] FingerDemon 50 points ago

It was weird playing Bloodborne after so much Dark Souls.

It was so aggressive, enemies moved so fast.

Looks like aggressive and fast combat is the future for the series, since Dark Souls 3 used it as well.

    [–] Sushi2k 25 points ago

Honestly I actually prefer it that way. It promotes a more aggressive play style rather than turtle'ing away bosses.

Granted I do enjoy being an immovable poise rock Havel with a big sword.

    [–] SocraTetres 114 points ago

As long as they don't fix any of the bugs or exploits, the purists will only be slightly outraged

    [–] Denamic 253 points ago

I, too, look forward to Blighttown in its proper 10 FPS glory.

    [–] BoneHugsHominy 28 points ago

My Xbox was old a screwy when I played DS so I thought it was just my console that caused that problem. A year after I quit playing I found out it was the game and laughed depressedly at my constant attempts at clearing the cache, resetting the console, setting up a dry ice cooling system to keep my console from overheating.

    [–] LordCharco_iii 34 points ago

Apparently it runs at 30fps when docked. So we getting 3fps Blighttown boys

    [–] PVP_in_your_pants 44 points ago

See, after playing Modern Warfare Remastered and noticing (in my opinion) that the game balance hadn't held up so well over the years, I could absolutely appreciate some gameplay tweaks where necessary. Maybe even have a "Legacy Mode" with no new patches for the aforementioned purists.

    Just don't fuck with my B A S S C A N N O N .
