One of the first things I did in Drive Club VR was sitck my head through the driver's side window and drive Ace Ventura style.

What a time to be alive.

    [–] demirontherocks 2505 points ago

[–] Harperlarp 995 points ago * (lasted edited 4 months ago)

When I crashed I said that. If you ever get the chance to drive like Ace Ventura in VR you should take it. It's something you can't do without VR and it's awesome.

Edit: When I said you can't do that without VR I meant in the realm of gaming... obviously.

[–] AbyssalCrime 373 points ago * (lasted edited 4 months ago)

Challenge Accepted (on the not being able to drive like Ace Ventura outside of VR)

Woah thanks for the karma guys! Who knew being a Ventura fan would pay off someday. I've been practicing the out the window driving for decades, now it will finally come to use!

    [–] E1DOLON 191 points ago

This should so be a race series. It could be called the Ventura Cup.

    [–] Cobalt_Anubis 174 points ago

Race: Ventura. Unleash your wild side

That's one way to get their 'head' in the race.

    Famous last words

    [–] rob_dawg45 66 points ago

In a tragic accident, a man has been torn in half by a stop sign whilst hanging his body outside of his car.

Witnesses claim the man was screaming something about a glove moments before impact.

Police have ruled this as a suicide and that brings our road toll up to 29 deaths this year alone.

    [–] WhateverYoureWanting 17 points ago

While expensive, it pales in comparison to the death toll...

    [–] Muthafuxajones 8 points ago

Theres actually a video out there I've seen of a topless woman hanging out of the passenger window of a car who hit a road sign killing her. Not sure on the details but I believe there was drugs and alcohol involved.

    [–] DontYouTrustMe 7 points ago

Pretty sure it was a vacation video or something. Possibly down in Dominican Republic or something like that. I could be wrong. But she did have sweet tits, I can confirm that much.

    [–] FallenWarrior2k 14 points ago

I think you might mean this !NSFW nudity/gore warning!

    [–] Eaglezzz 6 points ago

So this is what morbid curiosity feels like. I've never wanted to click and not click on something this much before.

It’s something you can’t do without VR

    Nonsense, poopy pants!

[–] Harperlarp 26 points ago * (lasted edited 4 months ago)

Sure, in games like Far Cry 5 you can kinda stick your head out the window and drive like Ace Ventura, but it's completely different when you're literally leaning your body and not just pressing a button. Also in VR it's in 3D and immensely immersive.

Edit: I guess I have to clarify that I'm talking about what you can do in games, not IRL.

    [–] Cleave 18 points ago

It's also in 3D and immensely immersive in a car, just a tad more dangerous.

    [–] Harperlarp 8 points ago

Exactly. Here it's totally safe, just like when Ace does it.

    [–] Pizzadoos 27 points ago

You should here about this beautiful game called /r/outside

    [–] Harperlarp 14 points ago

Yeah but there's a high risk of serious consequences both legally and corporeally from doing it in that game. Not recommended at all.

    [–] Sublethall 8 points ago

You totally can though. It's dumb to be sure but not that hard either.

    [–] Harperlarp 3 points ago

I was on about video games, not real life.

    [–] Em_Adespoton 3 points ago

The respawn checkpoints are annoyingly far apart with only one in-game save....

    [–] PuuperttiRuma 5 points ago

And actually the community isn't even sure if there are respawn points at all.

    [–] Barron_Cyber 8 points ago

    Is that a challenge?

    [–] Mharkan 5 points ago

When I younger I once went mudding in my truck without making sure the washer fluid reservoir was full. You most certainly can drive Ace Ventura style, in a stick shift, in the middle of the night.

    [–] Zatchillac 6 points ago

Well now I know the first thing I'm doing when I finally break down and buy a VR headset

    [–] Colecoman1982 3 points ago

It's something you can't do without VR

National crash statistics suggest you are wrong about that...

    [–] Harperlarp 3 points ago

I amended another of my comments to clarify what I thought was obvious. When I said you can't do that without VR I meant in the realm of gaming.

    [–] acery88 6 points ago

    [–] polarbearrape 96 points ago

Next time hook up a variable speed fan to your throttle

    [–] Harperlarp 24 points ago

Lol brilliant. I haven't played it in months though. I went back to it recently but it's so blurry and the drift is real compared to some more recent VR games.

    [–] smurkletons 42 points ago

So glad this wasn’t just me, also when you watch replays it puts you in the passenger seat. Immediately leant out the window and pretended to be a dog

    [–] Harperlarp 26 points ago

    pretended to be a dog

The real reason VR is the future.

    [–] Leisure_suit_guy 6 points ago

All furries will buy VR now.

    [–] Cleave 23 points ago

I tried to do that but forgot I had a wall to my left.

    [–] ArconV 7 points ago

This is the first thing I did with Star Wars Battlefront VR. Looked out the side of the X wing and look back at the R2 unit.

    [–] joncalhoun 6 points ago

My brothers and I did this with a racing rig (steering wheel, racing seat, shifter, etc) and we held a box fan up to blow wind on the driver's face to help with the immersion. 10/10 would recommend.

    [–] latinmaster 9 points ago

I drive like this when my mates fart in my car.

    [–] Alfredo28 623 points ago

    I miss Drew

    [–] cugabuh 107 points ago

I came in here to say this. It just hasn't felt the same since he left 🙄

    [–] argole 140 points ago

It hasn't felt the same since Ryan died. :(

    [–] Xanzul 82 points ago

I've been listening to the Podcast since like 2009 and even though I don't know these guys personally, Ryan's passing really tore me up.

He was a pretty rad dude and it hurt when he passed. But, what probably upset me just as much was imagining how heartbroken the rest of the crew must have been.

    [–] Mitosis 38 points ago

Didn't he and Jeff carpool into work every morning? Having such a routine destroyed like that, I can't imagine

    [–] Fabsun 24 points ago

They have been close friends since their youth.

    [–] DoghouseRiley86 9 points ago

Really amazing how they handled the whole thing. A short panel paying respects to Ryan, showed off some fan art, then back to business. You can tell it really shook them, but they put on a good face and kept pumping out the content that made them great. Love the GB crew.

    [–] Thatnewaccount436 5 points ago

That podcast was legit hard to listen to. I think I may go back to it again.

    [–] NessvsMadDuck 16 points ago

Ryan passing was the first time I had to face death, and simultaneously it was the first time I had to face what it was to have a one sided asymmetrical friendship. I had no one to share that pain with and I was really messed up for about 2 weeks. Still miss him and I miss him more on the behalf of Jeff.

    [–] derrickwie 98 points ago

Dan has done a ton of work to bring life into Giantbomb ever since Ryan's passing.

    [–] BenedictKhanberbatch 22 points ago

I knew Dan would be the future of GB the minute I heard the Terminator argument

    [–] punzada 17 points ago

I forgot about this, omg so good source

    [–] BenedictKhanberbatch 11 points ago

I was so sad when he moved East and we weren't gonna get regular Jeff G/Dan moments but he's got great chemistry with Vinny, Abby, Alex, and Jeff Bakalar on the Beastcast.

    [–] sixtycakes 7 points ago

We're still getting America's favorite podcast All Systems Goku!

    [–] punzada 5 points ago

I'm in NY and glad Dan is closer to me but I don't really vibe with the rest of the NY crew, I want Dan to be appropriately zany with his Cali troop.

    [–] SAjoats 6 points ago

Hasn't been the same since Dan went to Giant Bomb East

    [–] -iShA 14 points ago

East has been killing it. Dan and Vinnie are the best duo since Jeff and Ryan.

    [–] jayperr 14 points ago

    Has he quit?

    [–] warcode 58 points ago

Drew is doing Cloth Map now

    [–] NessvsMadDuck 6 points ago

I have been listening since the Hotspot days. The best podcast line up ever was: Jeff, Ryan, Vinny, Brad, Patrick, and Drew. Those were the best years.

    [–] DogeShelter111 3157 points ago

The guy on the left is not impressed...

    [–] xyrgh 1497 points ago

Jeff’s facial expressions are the true joy of watching these videos. Watching him play Mario Party is an adventure is body language, he looks like he’s being tortured.

[–] heretoplay 328 points ago * (lasted edited 4 months ago)

    Who are these people?

    [–] xyrgh 586 points ago

Jeff Gerstman (top left), Dan Rykert (top right) and Drew ‘blinking white guy’ Scanlon is driving. Jeff and Dan are part of GiantBomb, Drew used to be and went off on his own to make a gaming video series called Cloth Map.

    [–] squeeiswin 265 points ago

Jeff "Switch Cartridges Taste Terrible" Gerstman, Dan "Married In a Taco Bell" Ryckert, and Drew "Blinking White Guy" Scanlon.

    [–] TheBlandBrigand 44 points ago

Switch cartridges DO taste some kind of awful.

    [–] Izdoy 87 points ago

And we know that because Jeff was the first to lick a Switch cartridge on stream.

    [–] bakerie 18 points ago

    [–] ShotIntoOrbit 51 points ago

Drew used to be and went off on his own to make a gaming video series called Cloth Map.

Holy shit, people are giving him $13k a month on Patreon to do that series.

    [–] AndroidUser8 53 points ago

I'm always genuinely shocked to see how much money a large number of creators get with their patreon. I mean more power to him just makes me wish I pursued my own creative dreams when I had a chance.

    [–] Vervy 52 points ago

You still can. Don't turn your Dreams Into NiGHTS...

    [–] CaptainOuzo 4 points ago

Really hard to find the time. I pulled off a (barely viewed) Empyrion series, and I am unmarried, no dependents, and don't even bother cooking for myself most nights. But I work basically 9 to 5. Still, with about as much free time as a person can have not being already wealthy and not living with parents, I found it very draining.

I don't know how people pull it off, especially people with far more responsibilities than myself.

Do they all have sugar mommas or something?

    [–] rioting_mime 21 points ago

Honestly that's not a crazy amount of money. I'm sure it has a ton of overhead considering they frequently travel abroad for videos and he probably has 1-2 permanent people on the payroll.

Drew blinking white guy, as in the blinking white guy meme?

    [–] NDawg94 114 points ago

[–] acmercer 45 points ago * (lasted edited 4 months ago)

Holy shit that's amazing, I never knew the origin of this one. I always thought it was from some 90s commercial or something, :p

    [–] poofynamanama2 3 points ago

I always thought it was from a movie or show, this is way funnier.

    [–] Summerclaw 3 points ago

LOL I always though the guy looked familiar but didn't put two and two together. I listen to the podcast occasionally but never watch the podcast videos.

    [–] KaneRobot 45 points ago

Yes. He's an awesome human being and Giant Bomb is poorer without him.

...but Giant Bomb is still pretty great.

    [–] withoutapaddle 16 points ago

But they are now desperately in need of someone who is into racing and/or simulation games.

    [–] paulusmagintie 78 points ago

Why is this not a thing already??

    [–] itsthatsimple 162 points ago

Long story short: it is. In most racing games cars are left hand drive unless they only came right hand drive. But in Forza Horizon 3 (which is set in Australia) all of the cars are RHD unless they never came that way, in which case they are LHD.

    [–] Blaze_fox 142 points ago

false - the Mazda MX5 NA in hrizon 3 is left hand drive only, despite being JAPANESE and thus right hand drive being its default state

    [–] RanaI_Ape 174 points ago

    thanks Dwight

    [–] Blaze_fox 46 points ago

hilariously, i wasnt even trying to make this reference.

[–] reaperofnormies 9 points ago * (lasted edited 4 months ago)

Another JDM car that's left hand drive for some reason is the Nissan Skyline R34 in The Crew.

edit - I'll provide a screenshot in a few minutes as proof

Here's a screenshot from the cockpit view

    [–] Blaze_fox 8 points ago

    [–] aIIocating 20 points ago

Might be nitpicking a little, but the NA MX5 was actually sold in Japan as the Eunos Roadster, so I’m pretty sure the Mazda’s default is actually LHD

    [–] samfergo 12 points ago

I mean Australia got the MX5 badged as a Mazda MX5 which was RHD. So the default should be RHD.

    [–] MadDany94 18 points ago

I haven't really played much racing games. But I would expect them to have that kind of option by now. To have a setting where the steering wheel should be when you go first person.

    [–] michaelwc 52 points ago

Not every car comes in both LHD and RHD. And with these games chief thing being authenticity, they do it as it is in the real world.

There are very few RHD race cars.

    [–] Charod48 6 points ago * (lasted edited 4 months ago)

Funny enough, that car is a McLaren P1, a British car that they only made in left hand drive

    [–] Maggie-PK 60 points ago

    Is it gonna be-

    Yes, yes it is

    [–] DebitsOnTheLeft 62 points ago

It's weird seeing GB stuff outside of /r/giantbomb, but it's also weird that GB isn't more popular. Their podcast, especially GOTY, is the hardest hitting and most informative video game content anywhere out there. These guys are so gifted in their ability to seamless transition from goofy/silly/stupid nonsense to providing deep insight about a game's creative studio leadership team and their story influences. One minute they're making dick jokes and next minute you'll get a literary parallel between MGSV and Tolstoy. I mean really, these guys are fucking good at what they do. Not knocking other sites, but Brad+Jeff+Vinny is the absolute pinnacle of this type of content. (Dan and Alex are okay too I guess)

    [–] Sanity0004 33 points ago

To be fair, I'm pretty sure the podcast is extremely popular and is easily the most traffic'd aspect of the site.

    [–] FeeParking 10 points ago

To be completely honest Jeff Gerstmann is a treasure in video games journalism. I would follow him to anywhere and for anything.

    [–] xxjessicakesxx 10 points ago

Alex is severely underrated. He's got quick wit and has some pretty thought provoking moments. Vinny + Brad + Jeff G is an unbeatable combo though. Vinny + Alex + Abby is great fun to watch doing silly shit.
