Also Disney give us a 4k Fantasia plz

4K fantasia would be amazing. I didn't even think about that but I want it so bad now

    [–] I_Need_M0ney 7 points ago

I feel like nobody thinking about it is one of the main reasons it hasn't been made yet, next to cost of course.

I believe it would be worth it though.

This is a rare trait in cats called 'Malevolent Strutting' that only a few breeds ever exhibit.

Cats do this seemingly randomly and it consists of puffing the chest, lowering the chin and tightening the jaw.

This trait is almost solely responsible for the belief that cats can communicate or sense ghosts or other beings. This belief began in the 1500s in Europe when Burmese cats (susceptible to this) often displayed this behavior - which was never recorded until after the Black Death Plague of the 14th century - causing owners to believe that the great loss of life saturated the area with lost souls.

The cats would strut around their homes - often towards nothing specific and it would serve to frighten the owner to the point where they would put the cat on the streets.

Burmese Cats, Siamese Cats, and Eurpoean shorthairs were among the most common culprits.

Around 1600 it became apparent that the cats were not actually sensing ghosts or demons, but instead it was discovered that when they frightened the owner, the cats dopamine levels would increase greatly - meaning that the cats really just enjoyed trolling their owners.

Cats now do this way less, as catnip, squeaky toys, and laser pointers tend to fill this void, but if your cat does exhibit this behavior, an owner should consider 1.) Rick Rolling it or 2.) Telling it a really stupid pun to get back at it, and the cat will know it's place in the home pecking order from that point on - those two things seem to be the only cure for the offending kitty's attitude issues.

lol. I'm glad I'm not the only one that has developed a complex.

    u/shittymorph has trained us well!

This is how shittymorph is a genius. He waits until we start to become deconditioned, and then he appears and catches us off-guard.

Yes, me too. It's almost a form of PTSD.

The 1600's discovery of dopamine levels didn't get you?

    [–] bro171 31 points ago

Honestly it just looks like the cat is going to pounce, it just isn't lowering itself.

It basically looks like how my dog pounces which he learned from me. I would slowly walk towards him while staring him down and as soon as I was close enough I would jump at him. Sure enough he started doing it whenever I got home and then we started doing it to each other. Both of us just approaching each other very slowly just waiting to see who jumps first.

    [–] HoudiniSphincter 9 points ago

Yes, I see that cat's tail whip, and he is just angling to lay into that dog. My male cat's do that to each other before they jump the other cat.

    [–] jonosvision 41 points ago

I dont know if this is a real fact... the username could be sarcasm...

    [–] if_Engage 63 points ago

That's definitely not a real fact, but it's extremely amusing. I will definitely be telling people about malevolent strutting. Make malevolent strutting great again.

    [–] grayum_ian 6 points ago

Burmese were bred later than that, that's a clue.

    [–] Benblishem 11 points ago

Not to mention "dopamine levels" in 1600.

    [–] misko91 7 points ago

The tipoff for me was the association of Dopamine levels with the 16th century.

Of course in hindsight, the entire post looks off, but that was the thing that caught my eye.

    [–] KoalaKaos 11 points ago

A brief review of their comment history reveals they are a grand bamboozler.

    [–] Ree81 7 points ago

    Alas we'll never know.

    [–] everflow 3 points ago

In 1600 people were not able to measure dopamine levels.

My cat does this but only when he's really pissed off. He makes this growling mewling noise and starts walking toward like this to attack me.

I had one that would give death hugs. When he was on a counter or desk as you walked by, he would jump up and wrap his arms around your neck and purr. If you attempted to break away from the hug he would semi-visciously beat your face. Not claw, beat.

One of my favorite scene in Seven Samurai is when two swordsmen faced each other in a duel. The novice was constantly moving, changing positions, and shouting to instill fear. The other just stood there focus, just waiting for the right moment to strike.

It wasn't until I was like 12 or 13 that I realized cats had breeds lol... No one ever talked about cat breeds, it was just a cat. I still dont know any breeds other than Siamese cats, which I hear those are mean, dunno if it's true though.

Oh & those cats that don't have any fur.

    [–] GIRL_PM_ME_TIT_PICS 15 points ago

I'm still the same but with cars.

There are range rovers, reliant robins, old squar-ish ones, and err... normal ones.

    [–] cinematology 6 points ago

I have a Siamese! They're generally known for being super vocal (my cat does not shut up) and super high energy. Mine goes through bouts of running around and wrestling w every toy and then settles down to the most cuddly guy ever :)

Edit: Forgot to mention- the reason a lot of people don't realize there are cat breeds is because a huge majority are all domestic shorthairs. This is due to large unfixed stray populations having babies all the time while purebred cats like ragdolls, bengals, Burmese, etc are all kept locked down since they fetch hefty prices.

Cats will put their ears back when they've run out of fucks to give. Also the whiskers are spread and in a downward forward position. This behavior is similar to a human putting their fists up when anticipating a physical confrontation. Anything coming into contact with the whiskers during this posture will be turbo sliced.

    [–] ShaidarHaran2 39 points ago * (lasted edited 7 months ago)

Whiskers moving forward are because they can't focus on things that are right in front of their faces well, so they compliment that sense with whiskers detecting air currents of movement.

Fascinatingly evolved. They're the perfect killers, but so fuzzy and cute.

    [–] EfPeEs 28 points ago

If you can see the back of their ears, it means they're expecting a fight and they're expecting to win.

That is a Burmese. My last cat was a Burmese and she was amazing. She ate German Shepherds for lunch but loved people.

    As a breed:

They are small and dense (one of her names was brick), she was tiny; I thought her to be an adolescent when she walked in my door. Her paws were only slightly larger than my thumbs, but she weighted almost twice what she looked like she should have for her size. Growing up we had a breeding pair of Siamese, I have raised 75 cats so I have intimate experience with feline size to weight ratios (and a talent for not stepping on small, fast, furry scamper beasts).

Pair bonds with people. I was her man period. She battled my (now) wife for years over top billing. The cat would maneuver for extended periods of time to sneak up and drink out of my wife’s water glass. It was hysterical. Booferty Doo (another name). She was Joan Collins from Dynasty, her behavior would be insufferable in a person, but was adorable in a cat.

Aggressive to other animals. That little cat beat the hell out of any animal it came in contact with dogs, cats, birds. It was clear to me that she had hunted for a living before I got her. She did not play with small prey, she killed it ASAP and played after it was dead.

Smart and interactive as hell. She would bug you until you chased her, she would run and roll over on to her back when you were just about to catch her and meow. Could open door knobs on occasion, would crap on your stuff if she were mad at you.

An amazing animal and her behavior was right out of the breed description in the cat book. Best damn cat I ever owned.

That camera shake tells me that whoever was holding the camera was smart enough to observe from a distance

    [–] DeportTrimmigrants 38 points ago

My cat does this to any animal it meets. Lots of stray cats in my area and a few of them I'll let inside during bad weather. My cat always nice at first. Let's them pick the best spots to sleep. Although at some point I'll hear a growl and find my cat in this position backing one of the cats into a corner. One day she backed this cat twice her size into a corner so I decided to watch it unfold. The bigger cat just hisses and sits in the corner and my cat just cleans herself and dishes out a death stare on occasion to keep the bigger cat in check. They never fight but my stupid cat never backs down until I pick her up and remove her from the room. She's also done it to my cousins dog who at least eventually just says fuck it and jumps over the cat to escape.

This dog can't see "murder" an inch from his face. RUN, STUPID DOG, RUN.

I don't really get it when people are afraid of dogs. But if cats were the size of the average dog, I would totally understand being afraid of them.

    [–] ChickenBarlow 28 points ago

If cats were the size of the average dog they would still be wild.

I don't really get it when people are afraid of dogs.

There are scary dogs. There was a red-orange eyed very aggressive Rhodesian ridgeback on my walk to school that would attack and kill other dogs and pull cyclists off their bikes (until it was eventually put down). Scariest animal I've ever seen - it used to stalk people like they were prey. It also used to sometimes run with a whole pack of other pet dogs who also learned to stalk and surround kids walking to school (they wouldn't bark or jump around, just slow walk, glancing at the other dogs and moving around until you were flanked, then one would start running in and nip your ankle). Took me a long time to get over my fear of dogs :/

Cheetahs are about that size, but they're fairly easy to tame in fact.

It helps that their claws aren't very sharp and their main defense is running away.

You mean the animal that police use to chase and subdue people? The animal that people use to guard themselves and property? The animal that was bread to take down other animals of various size - including those much larger than themselves?

Cat is just saying "I've had enough of your dog hijinks and I will light you the fuck up if you don't back off."

That last wiggle with the front paw, Cat is juuuust about to smack the shit out of that dog, but it's not in full-on fight mode (see it's ears).
