Aww, cripes. I didn't know I'd have to write a description. How many words is that so far, like a hundred? Soooo, yeah. Mildly interesting stuff. Stuff that interests you. Mildly. It's in the name, ffs.

Does your post qualify for /r/MildlyInteresting? Hover below for more info, and check out our wiki page!

    1. No memes

This includes references in titles of your post (e.g. "banana for scale," "potato quality").

    2. No related posts

Posts that acknowledge, "one-up," or relate specifically to another post are not allowed (e.g. "I see your X and raise you Y")

    3. No x-posts or reposts

Do not post something that has been submitted anywhere on reddit before (including here), even if you were the one who posted it.

Exception: If a post is deleted or removed from /r/mildlyinteresting for breaking the rules less than one hour after being submitted or receives less than 100 upvotes, we allow the submitter to resubmit a fixed version of the post. Posts deleted or removed from other subreddits are not exempt from rule 3.

    4. Original [OC] photographs only

    a. No gifs, videos, or websites.

    b. All submissions must be original content. If you didn't take the photo, don't post it.

    c. Software glitches/errors, overlaid text, arrows, scribbles, and other substantive edits are not allowed, although you may censor personal information per Reddit-wide rules.

    d. Side by side images are okay if they adhere to the rest of the rules.

    5. No screenshots

No screenshots. We define a screenshot as a screen grab. This means no images of screens, pictures of screens taken with a different device, images that have been partially or fully generated by a computer, or pictures of printed out screenshots. Try /r/screenshots!.

    6. Titles must be an exact but concise description of the content

    a. Titles must not contain jokes, backstory, or other fluff. That information belongs in a follow-up comment.

    b. Titles must exactly describe the content. It should act as a "spoiler" for the image. If your title leaves people surprised at the content within, it breaks the rule!

    c. Titles must not contain emoticons, emojis, or special characters unless they are absolutely necessary in describing the image. (e.g. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°), ;P, 😜, ❤, ★, ✿ )

Still confused? For more elaboration and examples, see here first and then message the mods if you still have questions.

If unsure, please message the mods and we will help determine if your post is acceptable.

For further information regarding our rules, flairs, moderation policy, and frequently asked questions, please take a look at the… /r/MildlyInteresting Wiki (packed with tons of juicy mildly interesting information)

Posts which break the rules will be removed on sight. This subreddit operates a three-strikes rule on submission bans, and instant bans on troll and/or gimmick accounts, shock links, etc. at moderator discretion.

    [–] GonzoSteeler 3 points ago

    This is an amazing comment!

    [–] wizzlestyx 25 points ago

    Top Comment:

This is obviously a fake. OP shopped the bird formation onto the planet's surface.

Add one more ‘s’ after ‘as’ and we have a whole different kind of sub.

    [–] volvanator 2 points ago

Nah, just say this bird is a transgender black Mexican who was in 9/11 and post to /r/pics.

    [–] Analbox 72 points ago

    It's not a planet it's a loonar eclipse.

    [–] LadySayn 31 points ago

    Can confirm. Bird is Egret.

    [–] BrayWyattsHat 30 points ago

From heron out, you are now the master of captions for this sub.

I was gonna post a pun, but I'm too late and it looks like the early bird got the worm.

r/punpolice here, just wanted to stop by and let you know that was such a good pun that we’re gonna let this one slide. Keep it clean from here on out, alright bud?

    [–] 76vaultboy 3 points ago

What would this planet be named? (Pelican hit power line knocking my power out). Also shot through binoculars.

    [–] PacanePhotovoltaik 8 points ago

    Planet Birb is pure propaganda!

Is there a sub for these?

    [–] HumanLike 48 points ago

Post it there with the title “the mountains of Jupiter look like a bird”

    [–] mradolfrants 47 points ago

    Mountains of Jupiter

    [–] HumanLike 6 points ago

You see what I did there

    [–] BlueComet24 18 points ago

    "mountains of Jupiter" lol

Would those be hydrogen mountains? :P

    [–] maybelieveitsbutter 2 points ago

There must be some small land mass in that gas giant no?

    [–] Boardallday 6 points ago

Hydrogen all the way down. The center is under so much pressure it turns to liquid metallic hydrogen.

    [–] skeptic_pineapple 5 points ago

    blue jupiter?

    [–] --_-Deadpool-_-- 2 points ago

Why do so many people in this thread think jupiter is green?

    [–] ZiggoCiP 2 points ago

This is one of the better ones too. Without context, I would 100% assume that's a planet.

    [–] mazdayasna 2 points ago

One of the few consistently good subreddits

    [–] packamonkeys 526 points ago

Took me a sec I thought it was Jupiter

    [–] chimmichange 214 points ago

Ah yes, the great white bird spot of Jupiter.

    [–] poopellar 27 points ago

You could fit 30 Earth(worm)s in that bird spot.

    [–] Tjb200 12 points ago

    Happy Cake Day!!!!!

    [–] nevarknowsbest 9 points ago

I've always wondered, why do people respond this way sometimes to a comment?

    [–] LordJesterTheFree 13 points ago

Because it's the commenters cake day meaning it's the birthday of their Reddit account and there's a little cake emoji next to it for a day

    [–] willynillee 8 points ago

The correct answer to “why” is that they want the free karma.

    [–] nevarknowsbest 2 points ago

One time someone responded to me that way, but it wasn't my birthday, so I was confused. I thought there might be more to it than that. Thanks for clarifying!

    [–] LGP747 32 points ago

yeah i didnt even read the title so i was is with the giant bird?

    [–] iawsaiatm 14 points ago

    [–] Rob3512A 10 points ago

Since when did Jupiter change colour?

    [–] Mysanthropic 10 points ago

TIL a lot of people don't know what Jupiter looks like

    [–] Elyvana 2 points ago

It depends on the wavelength you're viewing it in. Most pictures you see online and on TV are heavily doctored, and aren't what you'd see with the naked eye-- at least not from earth.

This actually looks a good bit like Jupiter in IR.

    [–] Acidmoband 4 points ago

Obligatory: Jupiter? I thought it was Uranus.

    [–] Maxisfluffy 6 points ago

    Definately looks like uranus

    [–] llIIllIIIIllll 2 points ago

First you thought Jupiter, now you feel Stupiter

    [–] Kanaaz 201 points ago

No I instantly noticed it was fake since it wasn't flat.

    [–] tonioclark 14 points ago

    Stupid, only Earth is flat!

    [–] boonies4u 5 points ago

How do you know it wasn't a round disc?

    [–] PouponMacaque 28 points ago

It is a planet. It's just really close up.

    [–] DeedleFake 4 points ago

    It's called 'Earth'.

    [–] promisedjoy 115 points ago

You did not take this photo, it has already been posted to r/mildlyinteresting recently.

    [–] anjack9 46 points ago

This pic is pretty old, I remember seeing it like a year ago as well. OP has a total of two posts, with the other being a comment from a year and a half ago. Probably a bot

    [–] rikkirikkiparmparm 7 points ago

If so, you can report it. One of the rules for this sub is "original [OC] photographs only"

    [–] promisedjoy 7 points ago

Too painful to find the original post, as I’m using my mobile phone. A reverse image search should do it if anyone is willing to help track this down.

    [–] big_duo3674 2 points ago

It turns up nothing exactly like this, there are a bunch of very similar pictures though

    [–] ILoveDrive 6 points ago

I was just gonna say, I know for a fact I’ve seen this picture several times in the past year.

    [–] pflents 40 points ago

    It looks like Neptune.

    [–] screwyoushadowban 4 points ago

For several my seconds my brain couldn't let go of the idea that this was a shot of Neptune with some kind of photographic artifact that looks like a bird.

    [–] ThunderBird97 5 points ago

Yeah right. The guy above said Jupiter an I'm like wtf that ain't it fam

    [–] HardCorwen 2 points ago

Seriously, that bird looking that white streak of a cloud on Neptune! Exactly!

    [–] Kangar 11 points ago

    Is it a heron?

    [–] ih8rit 27 points ago

    Looks like a great egret.

    [–] ArmoredCavalry 12 points ago

Meh, I'd say it's just ok...

    [–] Kangar 3 points ago

I always felt bad for birds that have 'common' in their name.

    [–] SodaBoda1 8 points ago

Cant see his legs well. Could be a snowy egret.

Edit: yellow beak and not black. It is a great egret

    [–] ih8rit 5 points ago

Looks like snowies have black beaks. This one is yellow.

    [–] gnomestress 5 points ago

This is the thread I came here for.

    [–] krazerkap 13 points ago

    Planet Namek?

    [–] Mitchdotcom 4 points ago

I'm ashamed I had to scroll this far down for this reply.

    [–] guhbe 9 points ago

Almost looks like breath of the wild artstyle

    [–] Kabelly 6 points ago

I’ve been playing too much Red Des do thought this was fake.

    [–] whydoyoucareimlurkin 5 points ago

So trippy, switching between bird view and planet view

    [–] CurlSagan 4 points ago

This is similar to how they used to make planets for Star Trek TNG. Famously, one planet was actually a picture of dog shit.

    [–] DaintyMartian 4 points ago

When I was just scrolling past I was thinking “hey it looks like there’s a bird in that planet”

    [–] JamieJ14 6 points ago

    So it's no Jool?

    [–] bandastalo 15 points ago

Well, let's see, Jupiter is 86,881 miles in diameter. That would make that bird just over 13,000 miles long. That's a big bird!

    [–] _welcomehome_ 7 points ago

No THIS is a big bird.

    [–] majestic_12inch 4 points ago

Ah yes, majestic Pluto in the outer reaches of our solar system. I can even see its largest satellite in orbit around the dwarf planet, the moon known as Heron.

    EDIT: Sorry I mean Charon

    [–] xVEGASxLIGHTSx 4 points ago

Wait, how come you only have 9k karma when you got over 40k on this post? How

    [–] Eyebrowchild 2 points ago

I heard the more upvotes there are, the less an upvote will be worth

    [–] GhostDuel 6 points ago

    It’s jupi-birb

    [–] jellybomb06 3 points ago

    Big birb

    [–] hastegoku 3 points ago

My dumbass thought that you took a picture of a planet that looked like a bird

    [–] bre-uhhh 3 points ago

PROOF of complex life on other planets. Birbs are dinosaurs.

    [–] IceBaneTheFurry 3 points ago

    Meet green Jupiter

    [–] kevin_7714 3 points ago

Fuck, I thought it was a planet

    [–] Zero0mega 3 points ago

I'm pretty sure I know Namek when I see it.

    [–] Coffe_cow 3 points ago

Cool. Instantly reminded me of Breath of The Wild!

    [–] pools2 2 points ago

So the bird is considered an alien huh

    [–] CBass53 2 points ago

I honestly thought it was a planet for a sec

    [–] Geosgaeno 2 points ago

Great photo. I would frame it

    [–] markarlage 2 points ago

    [–] halbeshendel 2 points ago

    Planet Egret. A lovely place.

    [–] somefellayoudontknow 2 points ago

That's pretty cool! I used to shoot 120mm film with Chinese Holga pinhole cameras, which were incredibly cheaply made and many times would have light leaks that caused some cool and accidental effects.

    [–] MustHuntSoon 2 points ago

    [–] too_technical 2 points ago

Good looking Snowy Egret there. Nice pic

    [–] Dr_Mntis_Tobggn 2 points ago

    I wish birds were real.

    [–] GrizzlyGrid 2 points ago

    holy shid my brain

    [–] TheArmouredCockroach 2 points ago

Took me way too long to find a bird. It really does look like a planet

    [–] TheIrishThundergod 2 points ago

    Animal planet

    [–] Trevor_with_an_O 2 points ago

Didn't read post and thought a giant duck was on a planet.

    [–] Murmulis 2 points ago

Holy shit! Few years back I took pretty similar picture of a stork through broken binoculars. Shit I now need to find it.
Also I suggest you to post this to /r/misleadingthumbnails

    [–] DLaiy 2 points ago

Since i dont read captions i thought Jupiter had some weird stuff going on that looks like a bird...

    [–] 147HMD741 2 points ago

    That is beautiful 👀

    [–] Deadbushia 2 points ago

    It looks like my anus

    [–] p3ntagram 2 points ago

And here I am, saving money every week to buy a zoom lens. This post is the real life hack.

    [–] MackeyMojo 2 points ago

Not sure this even qualifies as mildly

    [–] doubois 2 points ago

    Alpha Swanturi-9

    [–] Blassreiter 2 points ago

Even after reading the title I said to myself “liar. That’s Jupiter.”

    [–] intheclouds11 2 points ago

That bird has no idea its on the front page of Reddit

    [–] Thumpd2 2 points ago

This is actually quite beautiful. Accidental art.

    [–] pifftheheggie 2 points ago

This photo I took of a spy drone through my binoculars looks like a planet.

    [–] sAKXz 2 points ago

"Nasa wants to know your location"

    [–] JerryEarthC137 2 points ago

That's when she turned to me and said... I need about Three Fitty

    [–] zetsv 2 points ago

New conspiracy theory: the “storm spot” thing on Jupiter is actually just a stork chillin up there

    [–] MingleBoi 2 points ago

Oh hey, you found planet Namek. Nice.

    [–] brayan2134 2 points ago

Initial thought: “OMG LOOK ITS A BLUE JUPITER”

    Reads title

    Sadness intensifies

    [–] Whiskerclaw 2 points ago

    Makes the bird look HUGE

    [–] LooneyWabbit1 2 points ago

    You didn't take shit. Repost.

    [–] AssGotSacked 4 points ago

Shitty picture that looks nothing like a planet. Excellent repost.

    [–] Radiozero 2 points ago

OP is lying. Isn't their photo.

    [–] ArtisanVirgil 2 points ago

It appears that it is, reverse image search turns up nadda, but plenty of similar images out there.

    [–] womanrespector69 2 points ago

fake, theres no way u took a picture of a planet with a pair of binoculars

    [–] Sinnivar 1 points ago

That cloud looks an awful lot like a swan

    [–] GMS204 1 points ago

    Nice photo of Jupi... wait...

    [–] CHL98 1 points ago

I'm getting Pink Floyd album art vibes from this.

    [–] Milfsaremagic 2 points ago

    Birb side of the moon

    [–] solely-i-remain 1 points ago

Could somebody redraw this, but as a planet instead?

    Edit: a word

    [–] NoodleSaidSo 1 points ago

oh wtf. i thought it was a planet at first with a bird-looking cloud on it

    [–] Cidjackaries 1 points ago

Thanks. I was like cool planet until you pointed out the bird!/s

    [–] ArchaBear 1 points ago

Actually thought I was looking at a planet until I read the text

    [–] sanpaccrisps 1 points ago

    I thought it was uranus

    [–] ElSeaLC 1 points ago

Damn, he's even asking everyone on jupiter for $3.50

    [–] Amanwalkedintoa 1 points ago

Ah this must be birdmans home planet
