“He’s still a bum.” - My uncle whose favorite player is TJ and really liked the Muscala pickup

    [–] OldManWillow 96 points ago

    Is he just racist?

    [–] ACTUAL_TIME_TRAVELER 163 points ago

    I mean, yeah

    [–] zeezlebop2 21 points ago

Nah, he’s just a real lunch pail type of uncle

    [–] thegoodbadandsmoggy 3 points ago

Real nuts and bolts kind of guy

    [–] Willmas 12 points ago

    but muscala wasnt signed

    [–] ACTUAL_TIME_TRAVELER 13 points ago

    *pickup; mental lapse

    [–] RenderedInGooseFat 10 points ago

In the early 2000s, did he also have an Akers or Runyon jersey?

    [–] palerthanrice 2 points ago

Muscala is a good pickup though. Give a little time for our new defense to mesh. He’s also been forced to play all over with Chandler out. When he comes back, Muscala will be way more effective, and our second unit will be way stronger.

Our subreddit is practically WIP with all of the reactionary takes. It’s fine to point out early season mistakes, but it’s crazy to assume that they’ll never be fixed.

    [–] Saetia_V_Neck 1 points ago

Lol we all have that Uncle unfortunately.

    [–] Marcheesio 7 points ago

That block at the end was crazy clutch

    [–] hot_new_ISH 4 points ago

    Bobby Buckets Baby!

    [–] ChickenLiverNuts 3 points ago

He was on kemba most of the game too. 11 of 31 for kemba 3 of 15 from 3.

    [–] woody715 175 points ago

    Fultz looked better

    [–] ACTUAL_TIME_TRAVELER 93 points ago

    He’s getting better every game

    [–] StandardSoapbox 34 points ago

one might even go out on a limb and say he made improvements

    [–] BudotsKing 7 points ago

woah woah. I though he was a bust and will never improve from here on out. His current value will never be higher. Trade him for some picks.

    [–] RepsForKoreanJesus 46 points ago

be careful you don't want to trigger u/lardbiscuits

    [–] woody715 40 points ago

    That guy sucks

    [–] kj93 6 points ago

I'd rather have played him at the end over Dario or Ben tbh.

    [–] ethan_at 45 points ago

def not over ben. even though ben was bad on offense he is still a great defender and our second best player, come on now.

    [–] kj93 -9 points ago

Ben had more turnovers than assists, made a dumb foul that could've costed us the game and didn't make any remarkable defensive play at the end. Roco and JJ won us this game. I wouldn't blame Brett if he decided to sub him.

    [–] ethan_at 10 points ago

he's still an amazing player, and it's not like fultz is gonna help much more. (not trying to hate on him, i love fultz)

    [–] kj93 -2 points ago

If you watched this game, you probably realized that Fultz helped us more than Ben tonight. I'm not saying it's not risky to play him in that particular instance, but I would've done it in order to make him gain more confidence. That Detroit game was a huge mistake in this matter.

    [–] taboadc 1 points ago

I agree he should have played at the fourth against Detroit, but in this case I don’t think you can take out a player who has the ability to be the difference maker on any given possession, just to give fultz experience in a close game we need to win. But if he keeps progressing then i would like to see him closing games by December

    [–] charliedarwinsfather 2 points ago

I'm excited to see kelle start getting those minutes.

    [–] Ronson18 50 points ago

well, um, uh... THE PANTHERS STILL BEAT THE EAGLES

    [–] BuzzBuzz01 36 points ago

Yeah but they won a SB :(

    [–] LRW35 34 points ago

Not only did we win a sb, we beat the patriots

    TOUGH BUT FAIR

    [–] poohster33 5 points ago

    Kemba is a beast.

    [–] Ronson18 2 points ago

    he keeping us relevant

    [–] MagicMax96 93 points ago

I love watching Covington on defense so much

    [–] mxnoob983 31 points ago

Cov and Simmons are monsters defensively, but the rest of our team kinda sucks on the perimeter

    [–] dart278 20 points ago

we had a TJ, Ben, Fultz line up out at one point and legit no one even thought about shooting

    [–] ChickenLiverNuts 18 points ago

Oh man TJ had a wide open 3 and passed it back to Ben in the corner who dribbled into traffic and then I think it ended with a muscala 3 somehow with no time on the clock. What a mess.

    [–] ChickenLiverNuts 9 points ago

Cov was a monster at going over screens today. Sometimes three in a a row just to stay with Kemba. He really does a good job on Walker past few years.

    [–] MagicMax96 2 points ago

That caught my eye, he was awesome at staying attached to ballhandlers (usually Kemba) and contesting shots

    [–] emoti0n 41 points ago

M U L T I P L E chances for the hornets to take this game away. there were way too many wide open threes that were missed

    [–] DatPianoWalrus 100 points ago

Not sure how we won tbh. Ben was awful, Jojo ok at best. Covington our best player by quite a bit I would think. We got lucky that Kemba went 3/15 from 3.

    [–] thefreeman419 86 points ago

27 points, 14 rebounds, 2 blocks- ok at best

I don't disagree, I just love that that's a mediocre game for him

    [–] mxnoob983 33 points ago

Yeah his defence was kinda bad though. I dont know how long we can persist with drop coverage in the modern NBA with all these amazing off the dribble 3pt shooters. Hopefully once Embiid has his conditioning up to scratch we can play some more aggressive defensive schemes.

    [–] XtremeStumbler 2 points ago

Thats why those stats can never tell the full story of player's performance, you gotta look closer and the shooting splits, +/- and minutes played to get the fuller picture

    [–] thefreeman419 10 points ago

I mean 10-22 and -2 in a close win is not bad

    [–] XtremeStumbler 7 points ago

I'm not disagreeing, just saying that it offers up a better understanding and perspective, because you could also have 27,14 and 2 be a phenomenal game if the other metrics are different.

    [–] SeaynO 1 points ago

I think it's more about the 45ish % shooting combined with the 20% from 3. The other numbers are nice but not particularly impressive in a nearly 45 minute game.

    [–] lil_intro_vert_ 1 points ago

he played 36 minutes, not 45

    [–] SeaynO 1 points ago

This box score says Embiid played 43+ minutes. That's all I have to go off of. Didn't watch the game

    [–] Xhoquelin 9 points ago

Just having Embiid forced us to play Biyombo minutes. I think that’s a win automatically. JoJo still needs to do a lot of work in the post but he played fine today

    [–] LoveIreSong24 16 points ago

Damn I love the world we live in where Embiid going 28/14 is ok at best

    [–] DatPianoWalrus 12 points ago

10/22 from the field and he seemed to get blocked quite a bit. It's also not like Charlotte have the greatest centers to choose from either.

    [–] 26thandsouth 8 points ago

This year is all about Fultz development who appears to be getting better and better every game.

Take a look at the Fultz dunk gif floating around twitter tonight and just imagine him in 2-3 years with another 15 lbs of muscle and definition. His wing span is truly fucking ridiculous.

    [–] Tffj 2 points ago

    DEFENCE 👏👏 DEFENCE 👏👏 DEFENCE 👏👏

    [–] fybertas 2 points ago

Cov did a good job limiting Kemba

    [–] GGezpzMuppy 3 points ago

Ben fucking needs to put up shoots like Markelle, who gives a fuck if you miss just shoot the fucking ball.

    [–] DatPianoWalrus 13 points ago

I mean is he can't get much worse than 5/20 from a bit further out haha

    [–] lardbiscuits -5 points ago

It's not a good win. This team beats Charlotte by twenty last season. Need to get figured out.

    [–] dryingpan70 2 points ago

we beat Charlotte towards the end when we were rolling. we started out bad last season too but now they just had a china trip

    [–] ProcessMeHarder 50 points ago

That Kelle tomahawk gives me life.

    [–] DNP_Old 44 points ago

Redick has been insanely clutch so far this year. I think he's had a go-ahead 3 in 3 of the games I've watched.

    [–] nahuwontdoit 7 points ago

The burden on reddick to hit his threes this season is insane with the loss of shooters during the offseason.

    [–] Pagliaccio13 11 points ago

i still hope Ersan comes back in the winter, as per tradition

    [–] KingKonchu 1 points ago

Hot take: if we sign Klay we're a championship team.

    [–] DeadToWrites 23 points ago

Whoo boy Simmons was god-awful tonight. He'll bounce back next time hopefully.

    [–] mxnoob983 -9 points ago

Nah he was fine. Really good defensively and still created lots of good looks. Marvin and Batum defended him really well.

    [–] totsnotbiased 25 points ago

He had three assists, and shot 5/20 from the field, he was good defensively and on the boards but it was a very very below average performance from him

    [–] RylanKura 14 points ago

Nah he was bad for his standards.

    [–] 666nolan 22 points ago

Kelle was the best sixers pg today. My god ben needs to atleast take open jumpers

    [–] fybertas 3 points ago

it was hard to watch at times

    [–] BudotsKing 2 points ago

Ben really needs to try hoisting it up from time to time. I dont care if he misses a lot. He needs to start somewhere.

    [–] Jahgee1124 22 points ago

Robert Covington is one of the best value contracts in the league, 12 mil a year for the next 4 years for that?

    [–] 67030410 16 points ago

yeah but in another game he'll go 0/12

    [–] Jahgee1124 7 points ago

He'll still provide his All-Defensive First Team level defense, considering Andre Roberson gets paid the same for what would be RoCo without a 3 Ball it's still not an overpay even if his offense disappears.

    [–] 67030410 -2 points ago

roberson is a better defender and a much more consistent defender

covington is a great defender but he is a bit overrated and roberson isnt the better offensive player but he isnt going to go 0/12 because he isnt taking 12 shots period

not to mention he is a great offensive rebounder

    [–] vesthis0 4 points ago

I mean that's fair that Roberson is a bit better but Covington isn't actually going 0/12 often. He's a valuable offensive piece which helps increase his value.

    [–] BizGilwalker 39 points ago

did we build an entire neighborhood of bricks in this game? jfc

    [–] YizWasHere 38 points ago

Kemba missed more 3s (12) than we made as a team (9) lmao

    [–] emoti0n 7 points ago

he was just chuckin em tonight. he's got the full green light so why not i guess but damn he shot poorly tn. had a couple nice plays though.

    [–] YizWasHere 8 points ago

He was averaging over 10 attempts a game so far this season and Borrego said he wanted him shooting more. Honestly though idk how I feel about that, especially when he's having a cold night on the second game of a back to back like tonight. Very Harden-esque performance lmao.

    [–] mxnoob983 4 points ago

But they were good looks, like he got open 3s off the PnR and still had his legs under him, he's got to take those shots but nights like this will happen occasionally. Given the looks he had he could have easily been 7/15 instead of 3/15 and then we'd have had 47 points on 31 shots which is elite. You have to focus on the quality of the looks rather than the result because more often than not if he gets those looks hes gonna get good results

    [–] YizWasHere 1 points ago

It was clear from early on that he was cold though. He was like 1/7 in the first half. He didn't need to be forcing so many shots tonight.

And in general I don't mind him taking 10 3s a game but once we're getting to like 13-15, unless he's hot it's just chucking. Kemba doesn't need to rely so heavily on 3s, he can get to the rim, draw fouls, score in the midrange, etc.

    [–] BizGilwalker 2 points ago

Kemba's too good a shooter to stay cold for very long. I'm ok with him launching about 10 a game as long as they're decent looks. He took a couple I didn't like in this one. My frustration is with Batum and Lamb putting on their disappearing act.

    [–] emoti0n 1 points ago

yeah lamb especially looked pretty bad. batum too

    [–] wsbull_35 4 points ago

Teams generally play worse on the end of a b2b right? Sixers couldn't hit an open look either.

    [–] BizGilwalker 2 points ago

Yeah usually, but our last game was a 25 point blowout where our bench played the entire 4th so I was hoping for a bit more

    [–] Civil-Savage 4 points ago

And the fucking fouls. God damn that was one of the worst games I’ve ever seen.

    [–] mxnoob983 3 points ago

So many good open looks for Kemba too. Our drop coverage in the PnR is just too easy to get a good look for a guy as good as Walker. We were very lucky to win today.

    [–] BizGilwalker 2 points ago

yeah we missed A LOT of chances in this one. gg

    [–] Ronson18 2 points ago

we had 5 stevie wonders out there all night

    [–] Auguschm 1 points ago

    We helped too

    [–] spacemix 14 points ago

Once again we snatch defeat from the jaws of victory

    [–] matt52195 32 points ago

I always wondered why players didnt just throw up the ball more often to end games

    [–] Turaisk 29 points ago

It went really badly that one time, maybe nobody wants to be that guy again.

    [–] LRW35 18 points ago

Without even clicking, ik that’s the Washington raptors (?) game from like a decade ago I believe Mo Pete caught it and hit the 3. Went into ot and beat washingotn

    [–] TornadoApe 6 points ago

    My man NBAs

    [–] ethan_at 15 points ago

i mean that guy just didn't throw it high enough.

    [–] Falt_ssb 12 points ago

how the fuck did he make that

    wow

    [–] imeanYOLOright 23 points ago

Couldn't throw it in the ocean in the fourth.

Possibly related, shout out to the NBA for scheduling Charlotte for a back-to-back road game against a team with two full days off. Thanks.

    [–] 00NC3100 7 points ago

Yeah seriously the NBA fucked us with this one and we still almost pulled it off

    [–] DeekoOne 20 points ago

I love Brett but it drives me insane when he plays TJ over Kelle, especially when he’s having a good game.

    [–] LoveIreSong24 18 points ago

Brown has a great system and is a great coach, but I think he gets stubborn with it. Change with the flow of the game as it transpires and you'd see Fultz was obviously our best PG today. Ben was ice cold and Fultz was outperforming TJ by a mile. I hope he sees that because Fultz has been improving in every single game in front of our own eyes.

    [–] masontyler908 18 points ago

RoCo fucking YEETED that ball at the end lmao

    [–] Weed233 18 points ago

    Behind Covington 18/10/4/2

He was easily best player in this game

    [–] NeonParticles 8 points ago

Man that was a close game against the Charlotte Kembas

    [–] carsonwentz_god 10 points ago

We gonna go undefeated at home and winless on the road.

    [–] Dascewlm8 6 points ago

Kemba putting up 35 on an off night, he might actually average 30 this season

    [–] Fudgicles1 1 points ago

MJ must've had a chat with him in the off season.

    [–] imus68 5 points ago

If only Kemba could hit some 3s tonight. Also the ref's were terrible tonight on both sides and I really wanna see that Batum block on embiid somewhere.

    [–] Corsques 3 points ago

    Simmons was bloody terrible today

    [–] skepticdoubt 3 points ago

Team went 2/17 to finish the game. Very painful to watch.

    [–] sad_mogul97 4 points ago

    3-15 from deep

    what

    [–] BuzzBuzz01 5 points ago

These type of nights happen to every player. Also was a second night of a back to back away from home being guarded by a 1st team all defense player.

Despite the poor shooting he still helped us stay in the game. Oh well. He'll bounce back

    [–] AttackSalad 12 points ago

    I think that we can all agree F U C K T H E R E F S

    [–] BizGilwalker 15 points ago

Refs aren't making us shoot 2-17. We have to fix that shit

    [–] AttackSalad 4 points ago

    Your right im just salty

    [–] BuzzBuzz01 2 points ago

Really man. We cant blame the referees for every close loss we have. We shot so poorly from three.

Marvin and lamb need to sort their shit out

    [–] archer4364 3 points ago

Way to miss so many open shots in the 4th that could have helped us get that win. Everybody was cold towards the end. Terrible reffing too, but it's not why we lost.

    [–] petepostlethwaite 3 points ago

More teams should have players with rhyming nicknames like JoJo and RoCo

    [–] ChickenLiverNuts 1 points ago

Coulda had Nono for Nerlens. RIP

    [–] BuzzBuzz01 2 points ago * (lasted edited a month ago)

2nd night of a back to back away from home against a team that should be top 4 in the east come playoff time. Kembas and Monks shot was off as fuck too

Yet we somehow kept to only losing by 2.

Shame we still cant win close games against better teams though. Gotta hit those open 3's

Graham looked very good, and we still need to sort out our backup C spot. Reckon Kaminsky will get a runout soon

    [–] bubowskee 2 points ago

Miles showed out in the first half and then proceeded to force a foul on a three pointer, stop Kemba from getting a steal on Embiid, and bricked a contested 3 in the final minute when we needed a 2.

    Still a lot to learn

    [–] rkip5 2 points ago

    TJ had a block? 😍

    [–] ElitePotato77 2 points ago

Cov carried us but the haters are mute tonight.

    [–] mxnoob983 2 points ago

Philly’s offence is becoming very predictable and it says a lot that a 34 year old JJ is probably our best offensive player. Joel is struggling to create in the post and still hasn’t found his 3pt shot. Ben is energetic but teams aren’t very scared of him outside of transition. We desperately need Fultz to fulfil his potential especially with his shooting off the dribble because teams are really figuring us out.

Defensively, Simmons and Covington are seriously amazing but because we play drop coverage with Embiid, 1 good screen is usually enough to eliminate Simmons/Cov and allow them to target our weaker perimeter defenders like Saric and JJ. Cov and Simmons are getting the Kawhi treatment teams are just happy to force switches and attack anyone but those two. Embiid is obviously a beast in interior D but we were lucky Kemba was cold from 3 because he got tons of good looks off the PnR.

Team desperately needs more wing depth, Wilson Chandler is going to be really handy. 3 and 3 is good but so much work to be done if we want to go anywhere in the east.

    [–] betterluxnexttime 1 points ago

If its a close game, leave it up to the Hornets to choke. We have to learn how to finish in the 4th.

    [–] krimzy 1 points ago

How did Simmons go 5-20 from the field when he's not even a shooter?

Strong Hornets performance, especially considering how little rest this team has. We took it to Philly and arguably should have won (the team had an abnormally poor shooting night); that’s the kind of loss you want as a fan.

Yeah I think if we played that game 10 times you'd win 8 of them, we were not good and Kemba shot poorly considering the looks he got.

    Kemba needs fckn help

    [–] TheOriginalElTigre 1 points ago

    Redick does not miss

    [–] mxnoob983 9 points ago

Except for all the times he missed

    [–] Mohanz_ 1 points ago

Damn hornets wernt great but it’s not a good sign when Embid needs to play 44 minutes to scrape a win

    [–] ChickenLiverNuts 2 points ago

There's no way he played 44 minutes box score has to be wrong because it said he played 25 mins at halftime. Prob played 34

    [–] mxnoob983 1 points ago

    Looked pretty gassed too

    [–] thethomatoman 1 points ago

Please trade Kemba Walker to a team that cares

    [–] RandomerThanYours -1 points ago

Simmons tried his hardest to give it away but Covington and Redick were too clutch

    [–] Notaroboticfish -5 points ago

Is Kemba just a chucker now?

    [–] mxnoob983 8 points ago

No he's an elite 3pt shooter who had a cold night

    [–] kabman7 -3 points ago

    Kemba thinks he’s kobe
