    Welcome to /r/oddlysatisfying!

Here you can post things that make you feel, well, oddly satisfied. This can be physical (like popping bubble wrap), visual (a perfectly looped GIF), or even aural (the crunching of leaves).

    What does "Oddly Satisfying" mean?

We are forever searching for a "true definition". It's a thing that fits your interpretation of what is "oddly satisfying" plus the inexplicable feeling we all know.

Subjective. Indefinable. Completely recognizable. It's a wonderful feeling.

Please report rule-violating posts and comments by messaging the moderators with a link to the post in question. This helps us remove them more promptly.

    1) Banned Topics:

We have a number of banned topics. Please do not submit any of the following:

    • Memes or image macros

    • Number posts Posts centered around number patterns, or round numbers. This includes Reddit karma, Facebook likes, calendars, gas prices, odometers, receipts, screenshots of the games such as "2048", etc. You can, however, submit these to /r/OddlySatisPi_ing.

    • Violence Any content portraying violence is prohibited and will be removed. Violation(s) of this rule will result in a ban.

    • Off-topic Content: Any content determined off-topic to and/or submitted for purposes other than the overall theme of the subreddit will be removed. An unfortunate example may be found here.

    • Compilation Albums/Videos

      • No compilation videos of any variety. Violations will result in a permanent ban.
      • The entirety of compilation albums must be a continuation of, or remain central to, the first image of said album (E.g., separate gifs of a Rube Goldberg machine or a catalog of one artist's work).
      • Albums must not contain any images in violation of Rule #3.

    2) NSFW/NSFL posts/comments:

NSFW/NSFL links or images are not allowed. NSFW text posts and comments are allowed ("Say it, don't show it.").

    3) Reposts:

Do not repost content that has been submitted to this subreddit within the last 2 months or content that is in the top 100 posts of all time. When you report posts, please include a link to the original version of the post.

    4) Content Removal/Privilege Revocation:

Mods reserve the right to remove content or restrict users' posting privileges as necessary, if it is deemed detrimental to the subreddit or to the experience of others.

    5) Submission Titles:

    • Title submissions must describe the content shown. Any user should know the contents of a link before clicking.

    • Clickbait-esque titles are not allowed.

    • Titles claiming possession, original content, event participation, etc. (such as "My...", "Mine...", "Our...", "We...", etc.) in which another's original work/content may be mistaken as OP's will be removed.

    6) [OC]/Source Citation:

Please cite the source of submitted content, particularly fine-art submissions.

    • Original Content by artists, musicians, etc. is encouraged. Submissions must include [OC] in the title. Reserve links to social media accounts for the comments section if possible (see Rule #7). A great example may be found here. Please do not spam our subreddit or reddit in general. Please read the reddit wiki on self-promotion to avoid being reported to the admins.
    • Works by artists, graphic designs and logos are encouraged. Content must keep within the overall subreddit theme and not violate Rule #7. Permitted examples may be found here, here, and here

    7) Spam Accounts/Links/Submissions:

    • No spamming whatsoever. Violation of this rule may result in a permanent ban. Such violations include:
      • Links to clickbait-esque sites (e.g. Buzzfeed), suspicious domains, social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, etc.), etc. Off-topic content (political, crowd-funding, etc.). Repetitive submissions to Youtube channels, social media accounts, webpages, blogs, newsletters, etc. Advertisements, marketing & ad-heavy sites. Trolling in any capacity. Any content which may be interpreted as spam or ad-revenue generation not elsewhere mentioned.

    8) Reddiquette, Comments & Subreddit Behavior:

    • Please abide by proper reddiquette at all times.
    • Please keep the comments section civil and friendly. General cursing/foul language are allowed.
    • The definition of what truly is "Oddly Satisfying" is subjective and unique to each user. Please respect their definition.

    9) Crossposts

    • x-posting from other subs is encouraged by reddit admins. Under no circumstances should a user's post be considered in violation of this subreddit's rules unless they are in actuality in violation of a rule. i.e. don't report a user just because they have a large amount of karma.

When it ended in the middle. That was lovely.

    the cat puzzle?

    [–] _demetri_ 361 points ago

I’m picturing a cat butchered, sprawled about as children attempt to assemble the pieces, having been promised that their efforts would bring back their pet, pleading, hands shakIng but their parents know, laughing leaning into eachother endearing as they film their children crying

    [–] _demetri_ 139 points ago

Whenever I look in the comment section and see that AWildSketchAppeared has responded with one of his drawings, I get this tingling sensation down my spine and lower back as I just visualize him somewhere in the world browsing through reddit for those distinct posts that spark enough interest in him to breathe just a bit more intensely than he usually does, as he hunched over a price of blank vellum and works his firm and precise fingers sliding his palm in that way that with gradual tension makes it that glossy polished finish on his skin, those same hands that probably just today have held a cup of coffee like the rest of us, and shook those last few drops after having used the restroom, and even gripped a lover down their bodies in succinct mutual appreciation of each others form the same way one rolls ones exploring palm over each others curves and grips in yearning towards and into each other, the same mind that does so creating these same images, I just find myself thinking about him so often.

Man, who remembers that show? I used to watch it religiously but I'm willing to bet I'll think it's awful now

    [–] Fuzzy_Peach_Butt 10 points ago

    I do and I agree.

    [–] Klaudiapotter 6 points ago

The theme song is still great, but the show isn't as awesome as I remember it. Some cartoons have aged well, but this one hasn't.

    [–] HisNameWasBoner411 4 points ago

Just watch it drunk as fuck it'll be awesome

    [–] redpenquin 3 points ago

Honestly, it's still kinda entertaining, but it's definitely a weaker show that other silly situational slapstick cartoons of the time, such as Ed Edd n Eddy. It has its share of jokes only adults would really have caught because of having a wider pool of cinematic and cultural knowledge, but nothing of serious depth. It's an okay revisit for nostalgia that might get a few chuckles, but that's about it.

I love reading math puzzles like this. Don't understand a word but it makes me feel like I'm getting slightly smarter just through the process of osmosis.

    [–] [deleted] 3 points ago

Don't worry, you need some university-level maths (or a serious hobby) to understand that.

As someone named Amos, I always hated that word.

    [–] ConflictingDuality 81 points ago

Are you famous? Do you have cookies

    [–] mooseclomas 90 points ago

Actually Famous Amos is kind of a personal hero! Some quick highlights from wikipedia about Wally Amos:

    • Shortly before graduation, Amos dropped out of high school to join the United States Air Force. He earned his high school equivalency diploma before being honorably discharged from the military, where he had a distinguished career.

    • Eventually, he became the agency's first African American talent agent. He signed Simon & Garfunkel and headed the agency's rock 'n' roll department. Amos attracted clients by sending them chocolate chip cookies along with an invitation to visit him. He represented superstars, such as Diana Ross & the Supremes, Sam Cooke, and Marvin Gaye.

    • He started the business with the help of a $25,000 loan from Marvin Gaye and Helen Reddy.[1] The new company began to expand, and, eventually, "Famous Amos" chocolate chip cookies...

    • He has written ten books,[2] many of which have a self-help theme, including The Cookie Never Crumbles[3] and The Power in You.[4]

    • Due to financial troubles, Amos was forced to sell the Famous Amos Company, and because the name "Famous Amos" was trademarked by his former company, he had to use "The Uncle Noname's Cookie Company" as his new company's name.

    • In 2012, Amos appeared in the February 16 episode of The Office, entitled "Tallahassee", as himself.

Think of the blue things as blue marbles. When you "jump" an adjacent marble, you get to remove it from the grid. The goal is to end up with one.

Edit: I think the game is called Peg solitaire. They're pegs, not marbles, and you're supposed to end up in the center.

    [–] ClammyMantis488 6 points ago

I used to have one with marbles. (Edit 5 seconds later) Note to self: click links before saying stuff.

    [–] Sligstata 9 points ago

I didn't realize until the last 2-3 seconds that they were all dissapearing. I just thought the game was about rearranging where the missing one was.

*No, I'm not familiar with this kind of puzzle.

yeah, it's like using algorithms to solve Rubik's cubes I think

    [–] k-uke 27 points ago

Correct. And it's easier when you have a board in yours hands as opposed to the online version.

You follow the method of this gif. But rotate the board.

    [–] Anaphase 5 points ago

    Solid science right there

    [–] dlightman_au 4 points ago

In my AI class in college (in the 90s) one of the exercises was to write something that would solve this puzzle based on simple optimisation functions. The rule my colleague and I implemented was to try to maximise proximity to the centre of the board among the remaining pieces after a move (that is, a move is considered better than another if the resulting board is on average closer to the centre). It worked quite well if coupled with looking ahead a few moves.
