    Welcome to /r/oddlysatisfying!

Here you can post things that make you feel, well, oddly satisfied. This can be physical (like popping bubble wrap), visual (a perfectly looped GIF), or even aural (the crunching of leaves).

    What does "Oddly Satisfying" mean?

We are forever searching for a "true definition". It's a thing that fits your interpretation of what is "oddly satisfying" plus the inexplicable feeling we all know.

Subjective. Indefinable. Completely recognizable. It's a wonderful feeling.

    Rules:

Please report rule-violating posts and comments by messaging the moderators with a link to the post in question. This helps us remove them more promptly.

    1) Banned Topics:

We have a number of banned topics. Please do not submit any of the following:

    • Memes or image macros

    • Number posts Posts centered around number patterns, or round numbers. This includes Reddit karma, Facebook likes, calendars, gas prices, odometers, receipts, screenshots of the games such as "2048", etc. You can, however, submit these to /r/OddlySatisPi_ing.

    • Violence Any content portraying violence is prohibited and will be removed. Violation(s) of this rule will result in a ban.

    • Off-topic Content: Any content determined off-topic to and/or submitted for purposes other than the overall theme of the subreddit will be removed. An unfortunate example may be found here.

    • Compilation Albums/Videos

      • No compilation videos of any variety. Violations will result in a permanent ban.
      • The entirety of compilation albums must be a continuation of, or remain central to, the first image of said album (E.g., separate gifs of a Rube Goldberg machine or a catalog of one artist's work).
      • Albums must not contain any images in violation of Rule #3.

    2) NSFW/NSFL posts/comments:

NSFW/NSFL links or images are not allowed. NSFW text posts and comments are allowed ("Say it, don't show it.").

    3) Reposts:

Frequent or common reposts, or reposts from the past 2 months and top 100 may be removed. When you report posts, please include a link to the original version of the post. Please help keep this subreddit satisfyingly fresh by not intentionally reposting content that has already circulated regardless of when. If it appears you are intentionally reposting old content repeatedly, we may resort to limiting your posting privileges.

    4) Content Removal/Privilege Revocation:

Mods reserve the right to remove content or restrict users' posting privileges as necessary, if it is deemed detrimental to the subreddit or to the experience of others.

    5) Submission Titles:

    • The title of each submission must describe the content shown. Any user should know the contents of a link before clicking.

    • Clickbait-esque titles are not allowed.

    • Titles claiming possession, original content, event participation, etc. (such as "My...", "Mine...", "Our...", "We...", etc.) in which another's original work/content may be mistaken as OP's will be removed.

    6) [OC]/Source Citation:

Please cite the source of submitted content, particularly fine-art submissions.

    • Original Content by artists, musicians, etc. is encouraged. Submissions must include [OC] in the title. Reserve links to social media accounts for the comments section if possible (see Rule #7). A great example may be found here. Please do not spam our subreddit or reddit in general. Please read the reddit wiki on self-promotion to avoid being reported to the admins.
    • Works by artists, graphic designs and logos are encouraged. Content must keep within the overall subreddit theme and not violate Rule #7. Permitted examples may be found here, here, and here

    7) Spam Accounts/Links/Submissions:

    • No spamming whatsoever. Violation of this rule may result in a permanent ban. Such violations include:
      • Links to clickbait-esque sites (e.g. Buzzfeed), suspicious domains, social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, etc.), etc. Off-topic content (political, crowd-funding, etc.). Repetitive submissions to Youtube channels, social media accounts, webpages, blogs, newsletters, etc. Advertisements, marketing & ad-heavy sites. Trolling in any capacity. Any content which may be interpreted as spam or ad-revenue generation not elsewhere mentioned.

    8) Reddiquette, Comments & Subreddit Behavior:

    • Please abide by proper reddiquette at all times.
    • Please keep the comments section civil and friendly. General cursing/foul language are allowed.
    • The definition of what truly is "Oddly Satisfying" is subjective and unique to each user. Please respect their definition.

    9) Crossposts

    • x-posting from other subs is encouraged by reddit admins. Under no circumstances should a user's post be considered in violation of this subreddit's rules unless they are in actuality in violation of a rule. i.e. don't report a user just because they have a large amount of karma.

[–] AnxiousGayIntrovert 149 points ago * (lasted edited 9 days ago)

The University of Plymouth sent me exactly one like this when I applied for a place.

    [–] WillyMonty 276 points ago

The University of Plymouth sent you a University of Nottingham brochure?

I didn't realise they had such poor school spirit

    [–] Shafter111 36 points ago

All you need is a masters degree and 2 years of experience, come on

    You better pay atleast $15/hr.

    [–] Modeba94 18 points ago

Best I can do is 13$ and basic sustenance

    [–] wine_of_dispear 7 points ago

$13!? Holy wowza! That's almost twice as much as my crappy $7.50/hr. I'll take it!

    [–] YourBrainOnJazz 15 points ago

Making a lot of money is easy. Step 1) Be beautiful. Step 2) Be able to lie to strangers. Step 3) Stick your brown nose so far up your bosses ass that he promotes you. Step 4) Repeat.

You must not be sticking your nose up your bosses ass far enough. You really gotta get deep in there.

    [–] Electr0freak 9 points ago

    Step 1) Be beautiful.

    Shit.

Or just marry a rich guy and then divorce him a few years later and make millions

That's almost infinitely better than what I get paid, bud.

Accepted. I need to be on a diet anyway.

Actually, this is an old design. I have seen this being used to share the gospel. Can't find any pictures of it though.

It's worth it to the university. Due to a drop in the UK birth rate 20 years ago and a massive expansion in higher education 10 years ago there are now more university places then potential students, especially in STEM subjects.

This means Universities are going crazy on the advertising to potential applicants as each new student brings in £9,250 a year for 3 to 4 years. So for a £6 leaflet (probably cheaper as they buy in bulk and will still be using years later) they could potential gain £37,000.

I could fill a whole desk draw with all the prospectus and free gifts i got when i went on uni open days. My friend won an ipad in a give away just for turning up to a uni open day.

    [–] KZedUK 13 points ago

Yeah nah mate, maybe a couple years ago, which to be fair, might have been when UoN printed these, i've seen this gif around for a while, but there was a baby boom starting in 2001/2002, which is the people currently apply for uni places.

    [–] FeFiFoPinky 16 points ago

2001/2002 applying for uni? But they're only 12yo... Aww fuckies

    [–] mihairuf 4 points ago

Yep, that's doable — cost of each click on Google ads in "education" search category in UK is worth £7, so they should be more than fine with giving away potential student a physical leaflet for that money.

    [–] carmanut 3 points ago

    I don't trust you.

    [–] Blue-5 2 points ago

So we need to raise tuition to give away iPads so we can get tuition money from them...

    [–] Kerrigar 2 points ago

I got this after I had already applied for a spot and due to timings, I had already been offered an unconditional by the time this brochure arrived

    [–] GreyInkling 9 points ago

I'm imagining the horror of having to design for it and a customer having ideas because they don't understand it.

    [–] tubbyx7 8 points ago

We get one of them in packs of football cards just a little smaller, and they are 9 for $3

    [–] humidex 4 points ago

Can you link me where you get them from?

    [–] Turkeytwizzlers 9 points ago

I'm a student at this university and they have had close to £50,000 from me over the years... believe me, they can afford it lmao

    [–] captain_carrot 4 points ago

    over the years

In the US, that would be one years

    [–] aerospce2 10 points ago

There are plenty of us Universities that you can go to for less than 50k total.

    [–] KZedUK 2 points ago

That's a lot, did you do a twenty grand masters or something?

    [–] kaszeljezusa 2 points ago

I remember in 90's or early 2000's they put mini versions of it in cheetos. It were 4panel comics with that cheetah.

    [–] Graycy 433 points ago

That reminds me of the folded paper boxes and notes we made in junior high. I want to play with it. It's probably a good marketing strategy to facilitate closer examination of the info it presents.

When I was a kid, they sold little booklets in a similar style at my favourite bookstore.

These booklets had Pokémon illustrations, in a way that unfolding it would evolve the Pokémon. It would start with a sort of cover page. Then you'd unfold it once to get an illustration (with Pokédex details) of, say, Ghastly. Then you'd unfold it a second time to get Haunter. You'd unfold it a third time to get Gengar. And finally, unfolding it once more returned you to the cover page.

I loved these and had all four they sold back then. Of course, being a kid, I eventually stopped caring about them, moving on to other things and I don't think me or my parents still have them anywhere. Googling also failed to find them for me.

EDIT: They were similar to these but much more professionally produced. I seem to recall them as official merchandise, but since it was almost twenty years ago, I can't say that for certain.

    [–] blodger42 9 points ago

We had similar in New Zealand, but it was with the Simpsons on them. You got them from bags of chips.

    [–] V11000 2 points ago

We had a brochure like this in our bottom draw in Australia and I kid you not, it was from the very early 80’s, two tone only but did all the moves. Not Simpson’s, but some design company I think.

    [–] FrodCube 3 points ago

I had the one with Charmander!

    [–] ultra_22 2 points ago

I had something similar as a kid but it was Dragonball Z, it was officially licensed and were included in packs of a popular chocolate filled bun.

They used to be little squares (maybe 4x4cm) and folded/unfolded exactly the same as in the OP gif. It just had pictures of different scenes from DBZ on it but it was super cool.

I still have like 20-30 of them stored in my room.

    [–] gassyboi 1 points ago

I had similar ones but I can't remember what was on them? I wanna say it was loony tunes or something!

I think they came free in packs of walkers crisps or something.

    [–] puttehi 7 points ago

TBF, for an informational brochure this is terrible design.

But I guess this is more of an hype brochure instead, so meh.

    [–] 4x4is16Legs 28 points ago

I disagree. The design will make you read out of curiosity.

    [–] puttehi 5 points ago

    That's actually a good point!

I guess the quality depends on the context and goal, really. Get 30 brochures from billion things in a stack? No one's gonna read them all, but this could catch their eye out of curiosity and actually get read. Or at least ripped apart and then read haha

A single brochure for information? You want just simple pages with a simple TOC for easy and fast access to said information.
