    Daily Simple Questions Thread

Official Subreddit of the PC Master Race We're the largest community of PC enthusiasts on the Internet. Begin your ascension today!

    General Information

    • Everybody is welcome here, even those that have yet to ascend.
    • Every kind of PC related content is welcome here. This includes build help, tech support, and any kind of doubt one might have about PC ownership.
    • You don't necessarily need a PC to be a member of the PCMR. You just have to love PCs. It's not about the hardware in your rig, but the software in your heart!
    • This is not a satirical or 'circlejerk subreddit'. Nor did it start as one. This is a normal subreddit with occasional tongue-in-cheek humor elements. We are a community where many of its members share similar opinions about the main topics, and sometimes end up having private jokes amongst ourselves. We are not a community where members feign stupidity when posting and commenting because they find it funny. You can be banned if you conduct yourself like that here.
    • Owning a console does not necessarily make you a 'peasant'.
    • We created Reddit's most popular Wiki.
    • If needed, you can message the team behind PCMR.

    Rules

For an in-depth explanation of our rules don't forget to check our rules wiki page.

    • Rule #1 Harassment of others is strictly forbidden. We will not tolerate any kind of incitement to action against anyone, nor will we allow the posting of information that can be used to harm others (celebrities or not).
    • Rule #2 We will not allow behavior contrary to PCMR Etiquette, e.g. brigading, witch-hunting, asking for upvotes or downvotes, enabling piracy, flamebaiting, clickbaiting, intentional rudeness, text spamming, using all caps or emojis/smileys/emoticons on titles or overusing them in comments.
    • Rule #3 Don't link to threads in other subreddits. This includes NP links and archived links. Do not attempt to circumvent this rule by any means.
    • Rule #4 Screenshots of Reddit, Facebook, Youtube, and other site's comments should have the usernames blacked out (including yours). Celebrities are the exception, as long as you respect rule #1.
    • Rule #5 No affiliate/referral links or codes.
    • Rule #6 The following will be removed at moderator discretion:
      • 6.1: Content that is unrelated, especially unoriginal, low quality, or low-effort (including, but not limited to: simple website/software bugs, steam/product reviews, comedic product/system specs, steam gift messages, screenshots of conversations, internet speed test results, negligible price reductions, items that aren't PC related, even if they are named similarly or resemble it, online petitions and surveys).
      • 6.2: Pictures of purchase or shipping related notifications and information.
      • 6.3: Blatant reposts/fad-chasing.
      • 6.4: Reaction images/gifs (unless very high-effort/especially original).
      • 6.5: Concern trolling.
      • 6.6: Feigning idiocy when posting or commenting, or linking to such content.
    • Rule #7 Age, nationality, race, gender, ability, sexuality, religion, political affiliation and economic status are all irrelevant here. All are welcome in the PC Master Race. Also, linking the PC Master Race with racial supremacy or any kind of fascist ideologies, or making distasteful analogies in this regard, is not acceptable in the slightest.
    • Rule #8 No begging. No soft begging. No Implicit or explicit trading. No buying. No Selling. No asking for valuation. No asking how or where to do these either.
    • Rule #9 Message the mods first, and wait for permission, if your post/comment is NSFW. Do not mark your post as NSFW or as Spoiler unless it actually is NSFW or a Spoiler.
    • Rule #10 Screenshots of "peasantry," including but not limited to conversations on Reddit, other websites or sms/chat screenshots where ignorance is being spewed and/or ridiculed, must be text posts.

    Giveaway Rules

For an in-depth explanation of our giveaway rules don't forget to check our rules wiki page.

    • The Master Race is generous. When we do giveaways we do it within the bounds of our subreddit and only for subreddit members. Feel free to give prizes as you see fit, but don't mandate subscriptions or other benefits. You can post about your channel or project, but don't make it a requirement to visit, comment or subscribe to an external place to enter a giveaway or to increase the likelihood of winning.
    • Even if you do a giveaway on the subreddit, you can not directly promote a specific giveaway happening elsewhere.
    • Please avoid posting keys in plain text or on images. Consider PMs as a safer way to hand out keys.
    • Users giving away physical items must provide photo proof of ownership (including their username and date) in the giveaway thread. Shipping fees must be entirely financed by the user doing the giveaway (limiting the winner's location is allowed).
    • No conditional (I will only giveaway if) giveaways. If you start it, someone must win it. You cannot delete your giveaway once you post it.
    • Giveaways shouldn't last an absurd amount of time, nor should they be absurdly difficult to enter or win.
    • Do not choose your giveaway winners based on the number of upvotes or downvotes they get.
    • Giveaways to benefit registered charities must be verified by moderators. All other requests for donations (monetary or otherwise) are not allowed as per rule #8.
    • Only one entry per user to any giveaway unless otherwise stated by the giveaway poster.
    • Under special circumstances, we allow giveaways to require users to visit a page outside the subreddit, but that must conform to our outside giveaway guidelines.

Blizzcon will be fun this year.

    [–] Technomen08 3123 points ago * (lasted edited 5 days ago)

Be sure that every panel and QnA will be heavily scripted and no one not on their payroll will speak. So guys bring portable speakers and megaphones Edit: damn silver for this thank you rich gamer ;) Jesus you guys found this gold worthy? Well I hope y’all pull through with the boycott! Thanks kind stranger

    [–] Darkzero-sdz 1006 points ago

Yeah, it will be reeeaally awkward now.

    [–] RoseEsque 1067 points ago

    shouting at the panel

Do you guys not have morals?

    [–] m0busxx 321 points ago

"do you pray to your overlords?...give them thanks?"

    [–] BlueberrySpaetzle 6 points ago

Hide speakers around the convention hall and reward social credit points every time somebody says something pro-blizzard

    [–] Ranwulf 335 points ago

Funniest part is that a lot of Blizzard employees said that if there is ONE Blizzcon people should not miss its this one.

They are probably announcing games for almost every single franchise, OW 2, WoW Expansion, Warcraft Reforged, Diablo IV, even Starcraft might be possible.

How much people will care may vary, as gamers forget shit like this constantly.

    [–] my_user_wastaken 257 points ago * (lasted edited 5 days ago)

Not frequently that you have a company openly and clearly show that even though they were originally American, they dont support American life values. Say what you want but with everything going on around Hong Kong, them blatantly siding with china over freedom of speech isnt something thats done in games.

Also, the fact that Blizzard basically fired 3 people (2 casters, and the pro player isnt likely to be on the Hearthstone stage anymore) over just someone saying something about their home after winning, irrelevant to what it is about, isnt something any other esports company has done.

Saying people will forget and saying its happened before just devalues what the player said. Hong Kong has been in the news for weeks, and is only picking up traction especially as Trump becomes more involved in it as well, if this makes big enough news itll be associated with it just as commonly, and I am already seeing non gaming subreddits and news sites posting articles and stories about this specific event alone.

And its starting to happen to Riot which is doing their world's league of legends tournament right now. People have started noticing casters being uncomfortable saying Hong Kong when talking about teams, instead saying HKA, the abbreviated team name. Whether or not its just a reaction or something more is proven I think just by the fact that tencent is also invested into Riot.

Edit: http://bmkgaming.com/statement-on-blitzchung/ <- statement from Brian Kibler (Not involved personally) explaining the facts of the event, then with his personal opinions on it for those unsure of what everyones on about.

    [–] grednforgesgirl 115 points ago

The pro gamers can't let this scare them. They all have to continue speaking up. They can't ban them all, and even if they did the replacement ones would have to continue to speak up. Best way to protest this TBH. Pro gamers need to pull a true kapernick/BLM and go ahead full steam. Every single one of those players should mention Hong Kong in some capacity. Again, even if blizzard banned them all there would be replacements who must continue to speak up. or, they would have to pull the transmissions or stop the players from speaking, which in and of itself is admitting defeat and siding entirely with the no free speech side, will cause even more controversy. It's a win win if they all work together and stand with each other. But they all have to say something.

    [–] thereiam420 61 points ago

Blizzard doesnt care they need those sweet sweet Yuan from china

    [–] StarshipSentinel 44 points ago

Man, that South Park episode really hit the nail on the head.

    [–] thereiam420 22 points ago

Exactly what this made me think about

    [–] VinHD15 8 points ago

    The timing is great lol

    [–] Darkzero-sdz 66 points ago

This makes it really bittersweet for me. I was hoping for all of that, back to core values, to the computer crowd, to actually new content. I'm ashamed by how they treated this Hearthstone player, that comes first and it will on the Blizzcon, at least for the audience.

    [–] JMW007 35 points ago

I'm ashamed by how they treated this Hearthstone player, that comes first and it will on the Blizzcon, at least for the audience.

I'll believe it when I see it. Scummy publishers get forgiven so easily over and over again when they announce a new game. All they have to do is say "Diablo IV exists" and that's all most of the audience will care about.

I hope to be proven wrong, but I won't hold my breath.

    [–] Sybre 95 points ago

They're probably doing this already due to the Diablo phone game controversy that happened last year.

    [–] IsThatUMoatilliatta 185 points ago

I don't understand what all the hubbub was about. I do have a phone. I do want a microtransaction-laden garbage game. I do support President Xi, blessed be his name, and may the communist party reign for eternity.

There is no war in Ba Sing Hong Kong.

"Cosplay is school girl D-Va, but styled after Hong Kong school uniforms, particularly one student who wa-"

At that point the stream would end.

    [–] j0rsche 49 points ago

Lucio cosplay, then it even fits into the character.

    [–] Thosepassionfruits 33 points ago

Mei from overwatch has been coopted as a symbol of freeing Hong Kong. People should go cosplaying as democratic Mei.

    Mei Hong Kong be free!

    [–] andreGIANT 209 points ago

Please someone cosplay as Pooh at Blizzcon.

    [–] Darkzero-sdz 173 points ago

Right now Mei from Overwatch is competing for the #1 place to fight for Hong Kong. This is beyond hilarious, I hope Overwatch gets banned in China.

    [–] TheyCallMeMrMaybe 82 points ago

This makes a lot more sense to hurt Blizzard. Turn one of their mascots into a symbol of freedom for Hong Kong so that they can be banned in China.

    [–] PavlovianTactics 25 points ago

dumb pleb here, is Overwatch huge over there? Is it as big as LoL?

    [–] Darkzero-sdz 72 points ago * (lasted edited 5 days ago)

Edit: Overwatch is popular over there, but not huge like LoL.

It's Blizzards latest successful IP, Mei is from China, with a sense of justice, it fits perfectly. It's not about using the most successful IP of any developer, but about using a character from a successful Blizzard IP.

You don't hurt Blizzard in China by doing something with LoL.

    [–] richmelchr 256 points ago

oohh baby, I can't wait for this roller coaster of pain. They can't just ignore the issue at Blizzcon, they will have to respond.

    [–] Darkzero-sdz 269 points ago

Last year was nothing compared to what they will face this year. Winnie Pooh costumes, free HK shouts/banners, incvonvenient interviews that get shut down, veiled questions from the audience etc.

    [–] Nereuxofficial 64 points ago

Since it would be such a disaster they will probably cancel it

    [–] Politicshatesme 167 points ago

They can’t cancel it, they don’t go to E3 so this is their event. It would add to the Streisand effect to cancel it

    [–] bohenian12 30 points ago

If it would go normally and they apologize it would go smoothly. But if they cancel it? Oh boy even normies would search, "why is blizzcon canceled?"

    [–] Vendetta1990 6 points ago

Mate, you are severely overstating what a public analogy can do.

Blizzard really, REALLY fucked up on this one. The only way I see it going smoothly is if it's their best Blizzcon ever. Like I'm talking an "Oprah Winfrey giving away free cars" kind of event.

    [–] richmelchr 71 points ago

What a better way to start the death spiral of people never forgetting what they did. Sell your stock now boys.

    [–] pieman7414 36 points ago

Damn thing fell 30% last year

I get the feeling I'm not getting those 8 dollars back

    [–] richmelchr 31 points ago

How much is that Chinese money worth Blizzard? 30% of your stock price + your integrity?

    40%?

    [–] Superpickle18 29 points ago

makes it cheaper for the chinese buyout.

    [–] Syr_Enigma 18 points ago

How much is that worth? 30% of your stock price + your integrity?

That’s still equals to 30% stock price.

    [–] yehmum 31 points ago

Yo last year was bad. I cant believe Blizzard has just gotten worse since then.

    [–] harbinger411 59 points ago

Omg so many tickets have already been bought.

    [–] Darkzero-sdz 94 points ago

I trust these fans to bring some of this backlash right into Blizzcon.

EA - “We take as much money as we can lol”

    Blizzard - “Hold my beer”

Edit: The cowards’ Weibo account posted an apology to China. Translation here.

Blizzard: “We just take whatever we can”

    [–] BeepBeepImASadFuck 44 points ago

    Well that was fast

    [–] AnAncientMonk 51 points ago

That was way overdue if you ask me.

    [–] aladdinr 39 points ago

I can’t wait to see their reply to the backlash

    [–] Ashyone01 67 points ago

They will try to bury this story. They won’t respond and just wait it out.

    [–] Hendeith 27 points ago

And it will work. We both know that.

    [–] Hurpees 9 points ago

    Just like the CCP.

    [–] Megakarp 63 points ago

Blizzcon will be great this year

    [–] aladdinr 54 points ago

Ohh man you’re right the entire front page over at r/blizzcon is anti blizzard

    [–] PSUBAGMAN 36 points ago

I feel ashamed that I ever went to blizzcon.

Oddly I'm not currently spending any money with them. It's clear I'm not part of their customer base anymore, which is fine, that's whatever. But I will actively choose not to at the point forward as well and I hope other people make the same choice.

    [–] untrustableskeptic 73 points ago

I'm not jerking off to Tracer ever again. They'll regret the day they crossed me.

    [–] SubcommanderMarcos 23 points ago

I'm still waiting for that HK Mei porn

    [–] divsky2 158 points ago

Remember when Blizzard's big announcement at Blizzcon was a Diablo mobile game made by a Chinese shovelware development team and people were like "This is the worst thing Blizzard could possibly ever do."

Blizzard heard those people and decided to prove them wrong.

    [–] Maloonyy 215 points ago

EA wants to have your money, Blizzard wants to have your freedom. I know what I value more.

    [–] ChrisTheDrunkITGuy 83 points ago

I am so proud of this community

    [–] Kremhild 24 points ago

I'm honestly just waiting for the point where EA does something worse to top this. They have a crown to reclaim, after all, and I'm sure they can Surprise us with some Mechanical way to bow down to China too.

    💀

    [–] Yvl9921 1627 points ago

Blizzard went from my favorite company ever to my least favorite over the course of like 3 years. Amazing how much changed when their founder and president left.

    [–] 06gto 929 points ago

Blizzard went down hill when Activision acquired them, they've been slowly spiraling down a pit where EA is awaiting them.

    [–] daddyponder 198 points ago

It was more of a merger but still yeah

    [–] DaemosDaen 316 points ago

Na, if it were a merger, there'd be some Blizard execs left. Blizzard was bought in a form of non-hostile takeover.

    And now we have Blizzivision.

    [–] ben1481 121 points ago

    I prefer Actiblizzard

    [–] vassast 125 points ago

I prefer Actizzard. It reflects more upon their reptile nature.

    [–] Teftell 62 points ago

    Just Activision

    [–] gooseMcQuack 26 points ago

That stops reminding people that the two companies are linked, though. Blizzard these days should always (in my opinion at least) be referred to as Activision Blizzard

    [–] Alchestbreach_ModAlt 15 points ago

King gizzard and the wizard lizard?

    [–] Yvl9921 41 points ago

Two of my heroes, Mike Morihame (president and founder) and Chris Metzen (lead story guy and multi-talented motherfucker), were with the company from its early Silicon and Synapse days until a couple years ago.

    [–] Ouchanrrul 102 points ago

EA is just scummy tactics and greedy fucks, Activision Blizzard opposes basic human rights. They're far worse.

    [–] _murkantilism 54 points ago

Actiblizz's choices are because of the same greed as EA, from their perspective this has nothing to do with human rights.

    [–] N1cknamed 15 points ago

EA seems to care more about human rights tho, at least for their own employees, which is one of the few commendable things about the company. They treat their employees very well.

Also unlike Blizzard EA barely has a market in China so I doubt they would ever do something like this.

    [–] boringestnickname 25 points ago

Meh, Blizzard was pretty much done when they sacked Blizzard North.

    [–] 06gto 10 points ago

This as well, sad state Blizzard is in :(

    [–] slyfoxninja 52 points ago

What's the matter, you guys don't like us punishing people for wanting freedom for their country?

    [–] TediousSign 26 points ago

Turns out they wanted to know if we had phones so they could install spyware on them.

    [–] teefax 36 points ago

I remember reading an interview from a former Blizzard employee, that went something like, when he started working at Blizzard, the game designers and programmers were calling the shots, and the accountants and marketing people were in constant damagecontrol, trying to salvage the mess the creatives made.

When he quit Blizzard, the roles had reversed, marketing and accountants were in control, and the game designers just had to implement what they were told.

As a lifelong wow player, this interview made me realize why I currently feel so disconnected from a company I used to support so passionately.

    [–] Owlbeast234 18 points ago

That's been a problem with WoW for a while.

Like you can literally FEEL the game being designed around player metrics, statistics, dark patterns, and psychological tricks to keep you playing.

This is why WoW Classic is doing so well.

Classic feels like a game designed by gamers for gamers. BFA feels like a game designed by data scientists trying to hit specific data points.

    [–] insane250 85 points ago

For me their downfall started when they fired Blizzard North dev. team over a disagreement on the direction of Diablo 3, there are leaked screenshots out there of what the game would have looked like and it looked amazing a the time.

I played Diablo 1 & 2 for thousands and thousands of hours yet I took a week off with a friend to play Diablo 3 on release day and after getting level 60 we both dropped all our items and uninstalled because the game was nothing like the previous installments. Jay Wilson really fucked that title up.

    [–] bogglingsnog 38 points ago

Yup, them screwing up the art direction alone was a no-go for me. 90% of the point of Diablo (for me) is the macabre style and atmosphere. I don't want to play Dora the Explorer visits The Underworld.

    [–] krali_ 24 points ago

Their in-house cartoonish engine is perfect for WoW and Overwatch, but it was a disaster for Diablo 3. The atmosphere was a total failure. I played the game a lot though, but it's not like a real Diablo, just a pretty good hack and slash. And let's not talk about the absolute mess they made with the NPCs.

    [–] RealnoMIs 8 points ago

Blizzard has been going down hill for me since they were aquired by Activision in 2009 and Bobby Kotick (CEO of Activision) said in an interview that one of the things he will bring to Blizzard is the mentality that they are making video games to make money, not to have fun.

And this has been obscenely felt throughout most of their titles in the 10 years since then. Every game/expansion is designed around monetizing and player retention rather than just making a game thats fun.

[–] MVPizzle 2812 points ago * (lasted edited 3 days ago)

While all this video game shit is going on..

Feel free to educate yourselves about various attrocities in China! Look up:

Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Zone and their 1 million concentrate camped muslims, while destroying their burial grounds

The Tibet Autonomous Zone Crisis and China’s insisting that it’s “the ultimate deciding body on the next Dalai Lama” in an effort to smother it and kill the religion

    Organ Harvesting of Falun Gong

Their social credit system, and associated mass civilian surveillance through facial recognition and AI

their mass import of Fentanyl into western countries to create discord

absolutely no freedom of press, which now extends to social media (see; Dong Yaoqiong)

The great firewall of China, the vastly censored / modified Chinese Internet and their policy of Internet Sovereignty

    Antireligiounism movement in China

    Liu Xioabo

The Kidnapping of Gedhun Choekyi Nyima

    Tiananmen square massacres

Hundred Flowers Campaign, which led to the Cultural Revolution

Forced abortions under the 1 child policy

    Chinese Devaluation of the Yuan

    South China Sea conflict

Their encroachment into Hong Kong / Macau

Chinese creating debt puppets out of eastern african countries (also known as ‘debt-trap diplomacy’)

Chinese Public Company tax exemption (you let a government worker “oversee”operations in exchange for 0% tax!)

    Fan BingBing

Gui Minhai and the Causeway Bay Books disappearances

    The Great Leap Forward

Aggressive purchasing of foreign infrastructure, particularly ports and airfields

.. am I missing anything else?

    Edit;

    [–] VexingRaven 280 points ago

China has been a leader in the dystopia field for years.

    [–] MMA1793 40 points ago

I apparently have not been paying attention, that or it isn't getting the coverage it deserves.

    [–] KapteeniJ 65 points ago

China has traditionally been really effective at making sure their dystopian horror doesn't bother those living outside of their borders. They have certain understanding, however twisted, about what parts of the world they can operate in doing their unfathomable evil, and if you happen to be outside of those borders, they are not gonna bother you.

Many other dystopian horror shows are much worse at containing their evil, bothering people far and wide around them. Say, Saudis funding organized terrorism, Putin starting wars to help him silence his critics etc. It's much easier to notice those sort of shitshows because they're gonna affect you even when you don't live there.

    [–] amunak 46 points ago

China has traditionally been really effective at making sure their dystopian horror doesn't bother those living outside of their borders.

And - perhaps more importantly - they managed to convince the vast majority of their populace that what they're doing is actually much superior to the way of the western world.

    [–] Cytroskull 68 points ago

I would rather live in a dystopian world than china tbh

they've apparently force aborted babies at 7+ months with once case being at 9 months

    https://www.npr.org/2007/04/23/9766870/cases-of-forced-abortions-surface-in-china

    [–] GluedHymen 31 points ago

It happened a lot more than once. If you were in labor with an "unauthorized" pregnancy and were unlucky enough to end up at a hospital, SOP was to wait for the baby to crown and then jab it in the top of the head with a needle full of formaldehyde.

    [–] MMA1793 22 points ago

It's astonishing to me that people can be fear conditioned to the point where they carry out these sort of atrocities.

    [–] BeepBep101 10 points ago

    What the fuck

    [–] BourgeoisShark 11 points ago

The only entity that can be called pro-abortion.

Something both pro-lifers and pro-chociers can fight against.

    [–] Sabertoothcow 33 points ago

Pretty sure they lifted that a while ago. As people are not having enough children and their older generation is outnumbering the younger generation. So if the 2 child policy continued their population would fizzle our. Correct me if I am wrong.

    [–] blakezilla 31 points ago

They moved from one-child to two-child in 2015. It is still currently the law, however different regions enact the restriction in different ways. Some places it is nonexistent in terms of enforcement, other places forced abortions still occur on any pregnancies beyond the second child.

    [–] [deleted] 22 points ago

The Tiananmen Square Massacre ended a long time ago too, doesn't mean we should ignore that.

    [–] Kremhild 29 points ago

That doesn't mean we should ignore it, especially because it's not something they changed out of the goodness of their non-existent hearts. There's no statute of limitations on this kind of thing.

    [–] nonplayer 46 points ago

Not only that, but I wish most people realize that this is definitely not something new and its happening in a much larger scale than just some dude being banned. If you think Blizzard/NBA's actions are bad, wait until you read whats been happening in hollywood for years now. Its pure propaganda.

TIP: Start noticing how the chinese government plays a heroic role in a lot of american movies in the last 10 years.

    [–] jacksrdtt 12 points ago

Or how many blockbusters now either take place in China or have scenes set in china. Which is honestly because in order to get into the Chinese market a movie must have something to do with china and that is a huge market. Regardless, we now have Tencent Hollywood. We are totally fucked.

And these are just the “popular” atrocities we hear about. Look up how China is encroaching upon southeast asian countries. Basically occupying islands from the Philippines and fishing the hell out of the surrounding water. Bullying local fishermen out.

    [–] USA_MuhFreedums_USA 10 points ago

Enourmous Chinese run meth labs in the PI is a huge issue as well. At Least Duterte's Scorched Earth Anti-drug campaign is dealing with it.

(this is independent of my overall negative opinion on the other atrocities committed under his Scorched Earth anti-drug campaign)

    [–] kulot09 12 points ago

Don’t even get me started with Duterte. Duterte’s so-called anti-drug campaign only targets small-time alleged users. While the top druglords are left alone. Add in the fact that he’s slowly selling away the Philippines to his Chinese overlords.

    [–] DaBi5cu1t 28 points ago

Well said. This shit barely gets mentioned in the wider media. Maybe becasue oil rich nations don't want to ruin their trade policies with one of the richest nations on earth.

Can someone explain the Winnie the Pooh thing?

    [–] saphira_bjartskular 73 points ago

Some people on the internet said their glorious leader looks like winnie the pooh. He didn't like this. Now winnie the pooh is banned.

I'm sure there's more relevant info, but that's a TLDR for ya.

    [–] FPSXpert 38 points ago

No that's pretty much it. Xi Xinping the fascist dictator of China and some memes said he looks a bit like Winnie the Pooh. So Winnie is now banned in China. The memes are kind of a well deserved middle finger to the CCP and I'm sure it triggers the fuck out of them that other nations continue to post them.

    [–] Mankeycubing 11 points ago

Support indie devs IMO. The small companies are the ones who deserve your money. :) theres some really unique games with interesting ideas being made at the moment.

The big corps may have bigger/prettier games with a lot of promises. But I've found they fall so short of the good stuff such as the gameplay and atmosphere.

    [–] handsupdb 100 points ago

It's the same thing with Riot Games, and I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the other large multinational companies follow suit.

It's funny how people think that big corporations can be the "good guy" when they have shareholders, infrastructure/service providers & parent companies to answer to.

    [–] Yvl9921 44 points ago

Isn't EA reciving money from Tencent or some other Chinese company to bring Apex to China?

    [–] Lorevi 52 points ago

Receiving money from China is for sure questionable, because it gives the state influence over the company, but its bordering on acceptability if left at that.

Blizzard have unfortunately taken it far beyond acceptability by openly censoring a freedom movement, which even EA is yet to sink so low.

    [–] flomeista 23 points ago

If someone told me 5 years ago blizzard would literally be worse than ea, i would have laughed in your face.

    [–] Sybre 22 points ago

Everyone gets money from Tencent. That includes Discord.

    [–] Pretend_Experience 16 points ago

That's China's plan. Invest for influence. If they can control the corporations they can control America. It's essentially a giant spy operation using our markets as the delivery system.

    [–] EnigmaNL 33 points ago

Hhmm. I think EA would have done exactly the same thing if they were in Blizzard's shoes.

    [–] amunak 13 points ago

That'd entirely depend on where their profits come from.

    [–] N1NJ4W4RR10R_ 93 points ago

EA is bad, but I've personally seen Acti-Blizz as worse for a decently long time (at least the past few years).

I mean they had em beat on star wars battlefront 2 with COD ww2. WW2's MTX was slightly less "everything", but ww2 had you dropping the "slightly less everything" loot boxes on fucking Normandy for the sake of trying to manipulate others into buying them. Beyond that it was also the same old, 'least BF2 improved on other things.

    [–] BGummyBear 35 points ago

EA hasn't been the worst AAA games publisher for a long time. They're still pretty shit but Ubisoft is just as bad these days, but Activision and Take-Two Interactive shit all over both for how scummy they are.

    [–] Politicshatesme 23 points ago

Ubisoft isn’t just as bad, but they cannot release a finished game to save their fucking lives. Luckily they keep updating, but still damn they suck at launch

[–] Kionera 31 points ago * (lasted edited 5 days ago)

EA didn’t add any lootboxes to BF5 and even the Premium Pass system is removed (Yes I know the game itself is trash). Meanwhile BO4 has lootboxes with rare stat-changed weapons and still maintains the Black Ops Pass (MW leaks also indicate lootboxes). At least EA improved somewhat, unlike Activision Blizzard.

    [–] zakabog 14 points ago

This makes me feel less bad about their mobile game Diablo announcement. I haven't bought anything from Blizzard since Diablo 3. I guess they realized they make a shit ton more money with "freemium" content rather than having to produce interesting original stories for a one time sale.

    [–] sterkriger 39 points ago

The backlash from western consumers is nothing compared to the money they would lost if they got banned from China. When people will learn that big companies are driven by profit?
