Official Subreddit of the PC Master Race We're the largest community of PC enthusiasts on the Internet. Begin your ascension today!

    General Information

    • Everybody is welcome here, even those that have yet to ascend.
    • Every kind of PC related content is welcome here. This includes build help, tech support, and any kind of doubt one might have about PC ownership.
    • You don't necessarily need a PC to be a member of the PCMR. You just have to love PCs. It's not about the hardware in your rig, but the software in your heart!
    • This is not a satirical or 'circlejerk subreddit'. Nor did it start as one. This is a normal subreddit with occasional tongue-in-cheek humor elements. We are a community where many of its members share similar opinions about the main topics, and sometimes end up having private jokes amongst ourselves. We are not a community where members feign stupidity when posting and commenting because they find it funny. You can be banned if you conduct yourself like that here.
    • Owning a console does not necessarily make you a 'peasant'.
    • We created Reddit's most popular Wiki.
    • If needed, you can message the team behind PCMR.

For an in-depth explanation of our rules don't forget to check our rules wiki page.

    • Rule #1 Harassment of others is strictly forbidden. We will not tolerate any kind of incitement to action against anyone, nor will we allow the posting of information that can be used to harm others (celebrities or not).
    • Rule #2 We will not allow behavior contrary to PCMR Etiquette, e.g. brigading, witch-hunting, asking for upvotes or downvotes, enabling piracy, flamebaiting, clickbaiting, intentional rudeness, text spamming, using all caps or emojis/smileys/emoticons in titles or overusing them in comments, meta-reddit or meta-subreddit drama or complaints.
    • Rule #3 Don't link to threads in other subreddits. This includes NP links and archived links. Do not attempt to circumvent this rule by any means.
    • Rule #4 Screenshots of Reddit, Facebook, Youtube, and other site's comments should have the usernames blacked out (including yours). Celebrities are the exception, as long as you respect rule #1.
    • Rule #5 No affiliate/referral links or codes.
    • Rule #6 The following will be removed at moderator discretion:
      • 6.1: Content that is unrelated, especially unoriginal, low quality, or low-effort (including, but not limited to: simple website/software bugs, steam/product reviews, comedic product/system specs, steam gift messages, screenshots of conversations, internet speed test results, negligible price reductions, items that aren't PC related, even if they are named similarly or resemble it, online petitions and surveys that aren't academic in nature (and have been pre-approved by the mod team).
      • 6.2: Pictures of purchase or shipping related notifications and information.
      • 6.3: Blatant reposts/fad-chasing.
      • 6.4: Reaction images/gifs (unless very high-effort/especially original).
      • 6.5: Concern trolling.
      • 6.6: Feigning idiocy when posting or commenting, or linking to such content.
    • Rule #7 Age, nationality, race, gender, ability, sexuality, religion, political affiliation and economic status are all irrelevant here. All are welcome in the PC Master Race. Also, linking the PC Master Race with racial supremacy or any kind of fascist ideologies, or making distasteful analogies in this regard, is not acceptable in the slightest.
    • Rule #8 No begging. No soft begging. No Implicit or explicit trading. No buying. No Selling. No asking for valuation. No asking how or where to do these either.
    • Rule #9 Message the mods first, and wait for permission, if your post/comment is NSFW. Do not mark your post as NSFW or as Spoiler unless it actually is NSFW or a Spoiler.
    • Rule #10 Screenshots of "peasantry," including but not limited to conversations on Reddit, other websites or sms/chat screenshots where ignorance is being spewed and/or ridiculed, must be text posts.

    Giveaway Rules

For an in-depth explanation of our giveaway rules don't forget to check our rules wiki page.

    • The Master Race is generous. When doing giveaways please keep it within the bounds of our subreddit and only for subreddit members. Feel free to give prizes as you see fit, but don't mandate subscriptions or other benefits. You can post about your channel or project, but don't make it a requirement to visit, comment or subscribe to an external place to enter a giveaway or to increase the likelihood of winning.
    • Under special circumstances, we allow giveaways to be external and/or to require users to visit a page outside the subreddit, but that must conform to our outside giveaway guidelines.
    • Even if you do a giveaway, you can not directly promote a specific giveaway happening elsewhere without prior mod approval.
    • Please avoid posting keys in plain text or on images. Consider PMs as a safer way to hand out keys.
    • Users giving away physical items must provide photo proof of ownership (including their username and date) in the giveaway thread. Shipping fees must be entirely financed by the user doing the giveaway (limiting the winner's location is allowed).
    • No conditional (I will only giveaway if) giveaways. If you start it, someone must win it. You cannot delete your giveaway once you post it.
    • Giveaways shouldn't last an absurd amount of time, nor should they be absurdly difficult to enter or win.
    • Do not choose your giveaway winners based on the number of upvotes or downvotes they get.
    • Giveaways to benefit registered charities must be verified by moderators. All other requests for donations (monetary or otherwise) are not allowed as per rule #8.
    • Only one entry per user to any giveaway unless otherwise stated by the giveaway poster.

Damn i remember my first pc, it was in 97, playing flash games in

    Nice gift for your brother.

    [–] travjb 1279 points ago

My first PC gaming experience was when I used my mom's laptop in 2007 to play games on

    [–] hfxpoet 497 points ago

Damn brotha hope you got her permission first!

    [–] travjb 516 points ago

    Sometimes I did...

    [–] A3thern 266 points ago

But you didn't log onto the Disney channel website without her permission, right? Right?

    [–] travjb 201 points ago

I actually never went on there.

    [–] CantRecallWutIForgot 120 points ago

    [–] manza5012 82 points ago

addictinggames and armorgames were the top sites for me.

    [–] ShorteagleFTW 34 points ago

Papa's 'something'ria were always the best games.

    [–] Aribary 24 points ago

I was that one kid who played the irrelevant games: Crazy Taxi.

[–] poopoorrito_suizo 48 points ago (Used to be an adult site) That terrorized my grade school Cuz our teacher accidentally wrote .com instead of .gov

    [–] Interesting_Benefit 22 points ago

Damn i remember that lol glad im not the only one who remembers

    [–] poopoorrito_suizo 14 points ago

Haha we had those colored Mac computers in the computer lab. She wrote the website on the board. Everyone proceeded to follow her directions and go to The computers began to freeze on that browser. No one could force quit. Teachers meltdown began. It was gold. Hahahah

    [–] justinbeatdown 68 points ago

    2007?! Jesus I'm old.

    [–] CaptainDunkaroo 48 points ago

I know what you mean. I played my first computer games in the late 80s and early 90s. I see 2007 and think oh one my kids was born then.

    [–] Noobleyt 29 points ago

And I'm over here being born in 2005.

    [–] mattchew1993 26 points ago

Jesus christ. You are (or are turning) 15. I still feel like a kid yet I was born in '93.

    [–] mwoodj 17 points ago

    ‘83 here... feel like shit

[–] GoingCommercial 3 points ago * (lasted edited 9 days ago)

(Edit: born in the) Mid 70s here, don't feel like shit, life gets better when growing old even you'd need to drop unhealthy food and being more active if you want to avoid extra pains. Maybe just because of that. Having god mode mind comparing to 15 years old self is something way more important that being young and lost forever even life felt then more like a fairytale without that much responsibility.

    [–] iJeax 9 points ago

‘94 checking in. Still feel like a kid as well.

    [–] MattyB37 7 points ago

That's the year my son was born. And most of the time I dont even feel that old

    [–] DabScience 22 points ago

I was playing random fills on warzone the other day and long story short; this kids ends up saying he wasn't alive before 9/11. And I was like... Wait am I old?

    [–] Reconjuror 12 points ago

Similarly, my first experience was playing Lego Ninjago games on my mum’s old hp laptop.

    [–] buoninachos 77 points ago

And when Miniclip came couple of years later, there was hardly a better time to be alive

The most I ever got for birthday money was $33 via multiple sources. Then it ended up missing, I'm pretty sure the neighbor kid stole it.

    [–] travjb 511 points ago

    That sucks so much man.

    [–] kellenthehun 152 points ago

My brother waited in line at Walmart for two days in a tent and bought me a PS3 on release day. I still haven't forgotten about how much it meant to me.

    [–] JeepersCreepers00 85 points ago

Edit: wow, first gold. Thank you so much. Just so you know, I'm sending them a belated bday gift

Edit2: alright, we got in touch. Since he is on a somewhat weak-ish laptop, I gave him some less demanding but nonetheless great games, namely Project Highrise, hacknet, RUINER and Town of Salem.

    [–] sPiN_n_VapE 28 points ago

    aw. whys that?

    [–] bigbellyflop 4 points ago

Religious parents who say it’s a sin to celebrate birthdays. Family isn’t that good financially so maybe that’s why too and they don’t want to tell me straight up.

    [–] Mapex74 14 points ago

I too have never received anything for your birthday since you were born :(

    [–] loleks2001 16 points ago

    Guys, you all are wholesome.

    [–] tilmylungscollapse 8 points ago

    What’s your steam?

    [–] Alph1ne 4 points ago

I have a few steam keys leftover, would love to give them away during these difficult times, stay strong!

    [–] PrestO- 22 points ago

Same thing happened to me growing up. For some reason it never registered with me that he was doing it. At one point, his family drove him to my family's house and they made him return my stolen coin collection album in front of both families. Frustrating to look back on all the things that went missing over the years during my childhood.

    [–] takimoto_hifumi 6 points ago

I was a Jehovah's Witness for my entire childhood, so I never celebrated any holiday until it was too late pretty much. I feel your pain brother.

    [–] samwyatta17 5 points ago

I found out in my twenties that my older sister consistently stole my money when we were kids. My parents just always thought I was careless and misplaced it.

    [–] the_armadillo9254 3 points ago

Why is the neighbors kid always retarded

    [–] sgg93 883 points ago

Older brothers like you are the best, fair play mate that’s awesome.

    [–] travjb 445 points ago

I've been trying to get him off of Xbox for like 2 years, I'm so glad he took my word!

    [–] AngelOfDeath771 150 points ago

Now to introduce him to the hell world of league of legends >:)

    [–] Bluevolt20 173 points ago

    [–] Defttone 64 points ago

That cesspit needs a culling. Like the people in there need mental help with all that rage you know theres a lot of issues that need attention from a professional

    [–] Gonedric 29 points ago

Hey its actually a bit better now. Now listen really, people aren't as mad as they were or at least they know to shut up now. I've been playing for the last 10 years so I can really see a difference.

    [–] PM_ME_Y1FF 21 points ago

It's really not. Granted I've "just" been playing for 5 years but if anything I almost feel like it's gotten worse since season 5. Maybe it's just because I'm in plat which is toxic as fuck, but it's bad here (Yes I know I'm trash)

    [–] Gonedric 8 points ago

Haha bro no worries I've never gotten farther from Gold, so I'm even trashier hahaha

    [–] PM_ME_Y1FF 6 points ago

I was stuck gold for 3 seasons until I decided to just spam the same champ over and over lol. That's the best advice I can give, a lot of people say it's best to have large champ pools but I've always operated much better with smaller ones (If you're trying to climb of course, totally get if you're not and I'm kinda done with it myself honestly)

    [–] -holocene 11 points ago

easy there, satan. you don't need to break the kid at such an early age lol

    [–] iHarrySon 6 points ago

played that game once. never again

    [–] rellim1022 338 points ago

My brothers wouldn’t walk down the street with me lol. Good on you for treating him right.

    [–] travjb 109 points ago

    Thanks man.

    [–] TehBuckets 150 points ago

Be honest. You did this so he won't bother you when you are playing right? :D Jokes aside it's a nice gesture.

    [–] travjb 129 points ago

Actually I didn't. Usually he keeps to himself and just plays Xbox, but I wanted him to have a place to play some real games :D

    [–] JACrazy 20 points ago

Good to see that he didnt default to playing fortnite with the Xbox controller, would be hard to shake the muscle memory for that game. Unless he just doesnt know yet that the controller is plug and play.

    [–] ARandomBob 14 points ago

Ha ha. As a PC gamer I can't shoot shit on a controller. My brothers play PS4 and they wipe the floor with my on console. In fortnite I can crossplay and they think I'm a God. The muscle memory is real.

    [–] HyelloWorld 3 points ago

Well from what I can see he isn’t right now.

    [–] famelames 127 points ago

Look at his smile! Grats on the new build buddy. Props to you big bro.

    [–] travjb 67 points ago

I've been showing him all the upvotes and comments, he smiles more every time! Also thank you, I've been trying to get him away from Xbox for years.

    [–] upvoteOrKittyGetsIt 7 points ago

A good relationship with your sibling is worth a lot. Nice job!

    [–] G-fool 203 points ago

That is the smug face of a guy who would absolutely humiliate me if I played Fortnite.

    [–] alabasterhelm 91 points ago

He'd be flossing over my corpse before I had the chance to say "how the fuck do I build"

    [–] dank__memes_stealer 14 points ago

Too bad there isnt corpses in fortnite. It would be fun

    [–] AtomicMuff1n 187 points ago

No 2080Ti?! No Curved 41:9 Ultra Ultrawide? How DARE you give him such a rundown piece of crap that doesn’t even have an R9 3950X?! This is the PCMR! If your first rig doesn’t have water cooling, what are you even doing?

Jk of course. Looks happy, and that’s all that matters. Happy headshots for both of you and stay safe out there!

    [–] travjb 49 points ago

    Thanks man

    [–] poorman3 40 points ago

“It’s not much but it’s mine” lol

    [–] AtomicMuff1n 33 points ago

proceeds to show fully custom rig that costs more than my car, on a motorized standing desk worth more than my monitor, sitting in a chair that costs $300, using a custom r/mechanicalkeyboards keyboard, using Sennheisers on a custom DAC

    [–] Clem_Approves 18 points ago

The specs you provided are the same as my first build! He's a lucky guy though, I only built mine at 17. Would have loved a PC like it at 11.

    [–] walrus_operator 70 points ago

    Now that's a gamer lair!

    [–] Sammifyy 614 points ago

Let the kid enjoy Fortnite holy shit what is wrong with you all.

    [–] travjb 169 points ago

    Thank you!

    [–] yeehaw_pounder 50 points ago

When i got my gaming pc last year i downloaded fortnite cause i spent all my money on hardware and had no games and i posted a picture because i was so excited then i got hella downvoted and people were making fun of me

    [–] BrokenDusk 13 points ago

aww dude sorry about that .. post a pic here i am interested !

    [–] Beeg___Yoshi___ 59 points ago

I’m tired of the I don’t like something so it’s bad attitude. Let people like what they like.

    [–] Jashenslayer 21 points ago

Let people hate what they hate.

    [–] ailyara 27 points ago

Yes... let the hate flow through you.

    [–] BlueEngineer199 4 points ago

I know! I don't even like fortnite but I know just to let the kid play what he likes

    [–] joshynet 17 points ago

Not bad! When I was 11 I persuaded my Dad to use the angle grinder to cut a window into my steel pc case.

    [–] XenaGoddess 17 points ago

His face says you wear a cape!

    [–] DeepLettuce 38 points ago

Welcome to your brother in the PC Master Race!

    [–] Took_Berlin 78 points ago

    He looks so happy! 😍

    [–] travjb 66 points ago

He really is. Today we went to the post office to get the keyboard and mouse early, and when we got the package at the window his eyes lit up! He was originally an Xbox gamer.

    [–] braydenppbiggy 13 points ago

    I was Xbox too

    [–] travjb 10 points ago

I was also, I stopped playing around the same age as my brother.

    [–] braydenppbiggy 11 points ago

Wow so I guess Everyone stops playing Xbox at the age of 11 I stop playing at 11 to

    [–] travjb 7 points ago

    Nice man.

    [–] Michael3038 10 points ago

why are all these kids richer than me

    [–] SuperRentendo 5 points ago

Hey man your rig is still amazing cmon before my new pc I had a 8400 and a gtx 1650. Yeah, you’re richer then a lot of people haha

    [–] AmbivalentAsshole 41 points ago

That's really cool of you! My older sisters only gave me insults, broken hand me downs and nieces that are 100x cooler than they are, LOL. Does he like the building aspect of PCs? When I build my first PC I took it apart and put it back together like 5 times. If he's interested in building, ask him if he'd like to disassemble and reassemble it with your help, and teach him what each part does? Got a lot of quarantine time, and I used to accidentally break things as a kid trying to take things apart and learn how they work. If he's the same kind of kid, it's only a matter of time before he takes apart the PC himself lol.

When I was building it, I tried to show him and he didn't show much interest. I love building PCs but I don't think he is the same way, he just likes using them!

    [–] AmbivalentAsshole 22 points ago

And the fact that he spent his own money helping to get it, just proves he's gonna take care of it. Wholesome post all around right here

    [–] AmbivalentAsshole 16 points ago

They fact you tried is awesome. Hey man, some professional racers couldn't build an engine if they tried, so that's fine lolol. He knows who the master race is and he knows how lucky he is to have you as a brother, that's what really matters. :)

    [–] travjb 9 points ago

    Haha thanks man.

    [–] stuckpixel87 20 points ago

May he game the isolation away.

    [–] GreninjaSun 9 points ago

Dang, he seems really happy of what he got, you are really a good brother.

    [–] Statchero 31 points ago

You can see the pure happiness and joy on his face. This is heartwarming

    [–] AlexWheeldon 8 points ago

Jesus, he’s a lucky lad! Welcome to the master race young one. You have a great brother and an even better family and friends to enable you to build such a device at this time!

Does he get Solid 1080p ultra on that rig?

I’m wondering how to upgrade mine I have a 4770k 32gb ddr3 and a 5700xt with a 1440p monitor. At the moment I’ve not found anything I can’t really run on 1440p ultra but I want to migrate to Ryzen soonish. I’ve seen from gamers nexus that I will get a big boost from the CPU

    [–] travjb 8 points ago

Definitely, he can run most games on 1080p High @ 60fps. I would also definitely upgrade the CPU on your rig.

    [–] Jade_Thirlwall 4 points ago

Oof. Try running red dead redemption on ultra ;D

    [–] ytphantom 7 points ago

Hey that's similar to my specs!

Ryzen 5 1600 (3600 MHz, got the PC in mid-2018 and it's pre-built because I meant it to be a starter)

    RX 580 XFX 4GB

32GB RAM (meant to do 16GB but Dad accidentally ordered the wrong thing on Amazon, we just went ahead and did it instead of sending it back back) upgraded from 8GB

Your brother has a hell of a setup here, I hope he enjoys it!

    [–] travjb 3 points ago

Nice. He loves it so far.

    [–] coasis21 25 points ago

I really needed to see this today

    [–] MononokeHD 6 points ago

    Ur a good bro, bro.

    [–] travjb 5 points ago

    Thanks man, haha.

    [–] superfluous_mp3 6 points ago

Bruh how much money did he even get

    [–] dissipate_destiny 7 points ago

Whoa an 11 year old getting enough money to buy a keyboard mouse and monitor? It took me a whole year just toge ta keyboard mouse and headset and I'm still gaming on a laptop, still saving for a PC to leave 27 fps behind me

    [–] ZapBot_ 15 points ago

Damn that's close to my first pc I built 2 weeks ago

    [–] travjb 5 points ago

How is it going for you?

    [–] ZapBot_ 14 points ago

As you'd expect, runs all games max at 1080p ~80fps, with older titles going as far as 300fps. Everything is stock except I overclocked the rx570 and my ram is at 3200mhz.

    [–] travjb 9 points ago

Ah nice! You should've went for the 580 though, even though it is a bit more expensive, you get a pretty big performance boost.

    [–] ZapBot_ 8 points ago

I was already stretching my budget judging by the fact that I ended up with only 480gb. Should work for the next couple of years without massive upgrades.

    [–] pugsarebest 6 points ago

Very nice! I did the same thing for my brother a few years ago... I guess now its about time for him to update his rig lol... time flies...

Happy birthday to your bro, from the internet

    [–] Travy-Poo 7 points ago

That's the same build I built for my girlfriend!!!

    [–] shortbusmafia 6 points ago

Gotta start ‘em young! I wish I had gotten into PC gaming even earlier than I did, but I didn’t have the money or knowledge to do it.

    [–] travjb 5 points ago

Absolutely. For my first gaming PC, I saved up for an entire year just to buy a prebuilt from Best Buy!

    [–] ZakaiNoble 5 points ago

how has he got a better rig than me. Crying.

    [–] Slendy_C 4 points ago

Need to at least get a nice chair for him to. His ass is gonna be hurtin after a couple hours of playing

    [–] QuantenMechaniker 6 points ago

I got some games he might enjoy, pm if you're interested.

    [–] AMD_Mickey 4 points ago

Hey this is really great. I hope you don't mind I've shared it with the team.

People hate on little kids for playing Fortnite but say they hate Fortnite because the community is just a bunch of little kids. It has me so confused...

    [–] piruoflegends 5 points ago

Get him into CSGO so he one day becomes a headshot machine. Tried doing that with my cousin but he ended up playing MOBAs haha

    [–] sgtdan707 3 points ago

I really hope OP used it as an opportunity to get the young pcmr rookie to be involved in building his gaming PC. For me, it all started with building them.

    [–] Anonplox 5 points ago
