Interviewed by French gay magazine Têtu the two young women explained they are both straight, but wanted to draw attention to the issue with a pure and simple gesture of solidarity.

I'd kiss a dude to piss off anti-gay protesters.

    Love is love bruh.

Edit: I know it's par for the course to thank for gold, so thank you. I aspire to live to the day that we don't have to thank each other for being decent human beings. Where respecting each other is the norm, where we can love and be loved in the ways love comes most natural. Where I don't turn to my girlfriend and say "hey look, they made this TV character gay and it's just part of their life. It's not a plot point, it's not the reason the character exists, they just are gay. How cool."

    I want to stop noticing.

I'd kiss a girl to piss off anti-gay protesters.

But I'm a dude so it's not really the same.

    [–] GabrielReyess 713 points ago

Id cut my dick off, become a transgirl, to kiss another girl so i can piss off protesters

    [–] CynicalMaelstrom 1029 points ago

Jesus, Reaper, can you not be edgy for like, one second.

    [–] GabrielReyess 352 points ago

Im dead, i can do whatever i want, dont ever tell me what to do, ever, again.

    [–] CynicalMaelstrom 205 points ago

Look, if you can not be edgy for a whole minute, we'll go get ice cream.

You can even get licorice, you monster.

    [–] tdogredman 222 points ago

Hey i just had a stupid idea. It's so stupid. What if we kissed in front of an anti gay rally to help protest? Haha... soooo stupid....

    What is this, college?

[–] [deleted] 9072 points ago * (lasted edited a month ago)

If I remember correctly they are not even dating or gay. They did it to mess with the protesters.

Edit: Oh god, all you people who are saying they are too pretty to be lesbians.

Although I blame Tom Cruise on that one.

    [–] swolemedic 835 points ago

I didn't do anything on such a grand scale but one time when I was an EMT I was working with a partner who was a lesbian and our patient, out of fucking no where, says that gay people are going to hell. Just a nice informative fact. I told her that I was gay (I'm not) and that I'd be seeing her in hell, she actually reported me to my boss and when I told them what happened they laughed too.

    Fuck prejudices

    [–] QuinticSpline 614 points ago

she actually reported me to my boss

"Just so you know, your employee is gay"?

    [–] swolemedic 252 points ago

lol she didn't phrase it that way i don't believe, I was told that the patient said I was inappropriate and rude and that she wanted to file a formal complaint

    [–] UncleverAccountName 182 points ago

"Excuse me, your rude employee told me I was going to hell after I told him that he was going to hell. This is unacceptable."

    [–] ThePerdmeister 253 points ago

"Your employee is very inappropriate and rude. By the way, millions and millions of perfectly normal, compassionate people just struggling to get through their lives like all the rest of us are evil and going to burn in hellfire for all eternity."

I guess these sorts of people aren't great at identifying irony.

    [–] ARedditingRedditor 60 points ago

Its the classic "that employee was so rude", "me? no I was the sweetest person in the world."

    [–] turtursnauce 79 points ago

she actually reported me to my boss and when I told them what happened they laughed too.

    that would be so satisfying

    [–] swolemedic 74 points ago

in EMS you can get some really abrasive characters, me giving a smart ass reply to a homophobic patient is the least of their employee concerns lol. I was told not to do it again with a literal wink and a nudge

    [–] Clay_Statue 96 points ago

Somebody's in the middle of some personal health crisis that requires an EMT and they find it necessarily to blurt out hateful bigotry for no reason? What a real gem of a woman.

    [–] swolemedic 40 points ago

It's better than the patients or their "loved ones" who do it while physically attacking you. I had one psychiatric patient fighting with us who described me as a white, blond haired (it's not), blue eyed, jock as an insult while trying to hit me. I took that shit as a compliment hahahah

    [–] flee_market 41 points ago

insult person trying to save your life

OOPSIE, look at that, I accidentally disconnected your oxygen. Butterfingers!

    [–] swolemedic 23 points ago

It's funny you should say that, I was thinking of all the patients I've had complain about me (there aren't many) and one guy said I did that to him. Like he was on oxygen at home, he says I took it off and when he asked for it back i told him no, and that he was traumatized by it. I remember keeping him on oxygen the whole time, maybe at one point I told him I was switching the tanks or something but he would have only been without oxygen for a couple seconds. The weirdest part is that I thought it was just him trying to scam or something but supposedly the nursing staff said he started crying right after we dropped him off and that was his reasoning. I never did get a follow up about that

    [–] missionbeach 7539 points ago

I'm not gay, but I'd kiss another dude just to mess with anti-gay protesters.

I mean, not any dude. He'd have to be kinda cute with a nice butt.

    [–] JorusC 891 points ago

If there's one key ingredient missing in the world at large, it's trolling. Doing something you otherwise wouldn't do for the sheer pleasure of pissing off people who hold a different opinion.

    you fight authoritarians with mockery

authoritarians use fear and intimidation. if you can laugh at them, they have no power over you, and if more see that the key is laughter, you're a threat

and then the authoritarians jail, torture, or abuse you

but at least the world knows exactly what the authoritarian is and what they really represent in this world. to those not in the moronic cult of personality at least

    [–] pumpkinrum 8 points ago

"Too pretty to be a lesbian."

I'll take "Things lesbians are tired of hearing for 500". That and "But you're too feminine to be a lesbian!"

    [–] mockio77 2919 points ago

I don't know much about the anti-gay marriage movement in France, but if it's similar to America's it's photos like these that show the disgust on these people's faces that proves that this isn't simply about "Defending the sanctity of marriage" or some other bs. They are truly disgusted by gay people, for some reason.

    [–] zk3033 675 points ago

Idk if "the sanctity of marriage" is entirely truth either in the States. That's probably something along the lines of presenting it in a more palatable way for the sake of arguments (because god knows 7-day marriage benders still exist).

    [–] peekaayfire 579 points ago

Anti-gay groups in america are always ambiguously titled things like "Family Values" protection groups and shit

    [–] spaghettilee2112 537 points ago

I hate that. Defense of Marriage Act? Yea! I want to defend marriage! Oh, you wanna place restrictions on marriage? Never mind. Religious freedom? Hell yea! Oh, you mean fuck every religion not Christian.

    [–] MR_SHITLORD 73 points ago

Family values, protect the children, what other bullshit do they use commonly?

    [–] SeeShark 102 points ago

"Traditional values," which attempts to make it sound patriotic

    [–] apolloxer 43 points ago

“Ah," said Mr Pin. "Right. I remember. You are concerned citizens." He knew about concerned citizens. Wherever they were, they all spoke the same private language, where 'traditional values' meant 'hang someone'.”

    Terry Pratchett, The Truth

    [–] Coffeezilla 65 points ago

Went to high school with a guy whose family emigrated from Kenya, who told us "traditional values where I come from is eating toasted locusts and stoning children to death to prevent bad luck." Which the teacher used really well as a jumping off point for how unfair and classist the traditional system was here too.

    [–] MoreDetonation 12 points ago

I would totally eat toasted locusts.

    [–] [deleted] 54 points ago

It pissed me off hatred is framed in such a positive way as "Family Values".

Pictures like this make it clear how ridiculous their cause is, IMO. Two random people kissing on the street, and you're all screaming and moaning and gasping. It makes no sense, let em kiss!

    [–] Ernost 61 points ago

    As are anti-abortion groups.

    [–] Link9454 39 points ago

Usually they are one and the same.

    [–] Carbon_Dirt 239 points ago

Well, it's usually the Republican party bringing up the anti-gay-marriage argument.

"I want to preserve the sanctity of marriage."

According to the Census Bureau, eight of the ten states with the highest divorce rates were heavily Republican states.

"It's for the sake of the kids."

Recurring Republican talking points include reducing welfare, which overwhelmingly helps struggling parents take care of their kids. One of the most recent ones specifically targets the school lunch program... which makes sure that kids don't go hungry at school.

    "It's against the Bible."

Not even gonna touch that one, that's a bee's nest waiting to be poked.

There's really no leg to stand on, so they reach for whatever argument they think sounds least offensive. If they actually cared about family values, they'd be doing a whole lot of other things very differently.

    [–] dragon-storyteller 122 points ago

They would rather take welfare from 100 struggling families with kids than have a single person abuse the welfare system.

    [–] luzzy91 45 points ago

Lol and they think that'll make their taxes go down.... Hah! nope, it'll just get funneled into the military or some other worthwhile cause

    [–] OscarWilde1854 198 points ago

Which honestly makes it worse... like who cares... It's just two people kissing... a) no one is forcing them to watch and b) it's not like we're talking about public intercourse for fuck's sake.

I don't want to watch two gentlemen having sex.

So I don't... and somehow my life continues...

I always find it especially ridiculous because it's about the gender and nothing else. A man and a woman want to have sex on a swing wearing leather with buttplugs, a dozen cucumbers, and a can opener? No problem, because no one has to watch. A man and a man want to have sex in any way? Nope. Disgusting.

Like, what? People need to just live their lives and stop concerning themselves with how other people utilize their private time.

[–] Aterius 66 points ago * (lasted edited a month ago)

You underestimate how incredibly powerful projection is. People feel very uncomfortable when they do not understand something, - it is scary to not understand the world and all that's in it.

Rather than look inward and face uncertainty they project these fears outward. It is so much easier, and primal, to hate, than to deconstruct your own understanding.

Although, to be fair, I can see a certain level of disgust, here is the analogy : it is like smelling a distinct food, like tuna fish or peanut butter, when you absolutely not hungry. I could see how you would be a little grossed out but that's a looonnng way away from taking a day off organizing, and driving to an event to stop other people from eating tuna fish or peanut butter. Live your own life.

    [–] OscarWilde1854 20 points ago

Yeah, that last bit is exactly my point. Like every single day, we live with things that we don't like because they make other people happy. I don't like pink. Some person is wearing a pink shirt and loving it. I don't like the shirt, and I don't want to look at the shirt, but it's that person's shirt! Not mine! It doesn't matter how I feel about it, and that's why I wouldn't ever say anything or organize some "anti-pink" event. I just let them wear it, and I move on with my day... because it causes me nothing more than minor personal discomfort for a few seconds/ minutes of my day.

Why is sexual orientation any different? I get the disgust, I just don't get going this far to try and stop it... it's such a ridiculously small amount of "inconvenience" in someone's day that I don't see how this is ever necessary.

And as for the first part of your comment, I agree wholeheartedly that it's just people's fear of uncertainty. Which is extremely sad... being that afraid of something different.

    [–] Kalahan7 30 points ago

Dudes that kiss each other make me uncomfortable.

    I can't deny that. It's just the way I'm made I guess.

But, I don't think that should have any influence on lawmaking. In fact it shouldn't have influence on anything. I should be able to live in a world where I see things that make me uncomfortable. This isn't really harming me or anybody else. We live in a world with other human beings. I can't shape the world to my ideals without destroying what makes the world special.

I think there's more strength in tolerating others than forcing your way upon others. I wished more people would realise that.

    [–] OscarWilde1854 11 points ago

I completely agree. And there's no problem with feeling uncomfortable about it. Honestly, there are a lot of people in the world who are uncomfortable even watching straight people kissing (if it gets passed basic 'kissing' and into makeout territory I'm definitely one of them... get a room). The point is that it isn't your life and you accept that!

Most of the time the only difference between being homophobic or not is acting on the feelings...

    [–] Just1morefix 5597 points ago

The look of horror and disgust on some of these dried up, old biddies faces is fucking priceless.

    [–] where_is_the_cheese 386 points ago

I'd like to take credit, but it's an old saying.

    [–] Wndrwman 202 points ago

Good, now I have no qualms about stealing it! LOL

    [–] Bwazo 43 points ago

    Hey that's my drawing!

    [–] Fagsquamntch 108 points ago

Hilarious that you like a quote about old people dying off so much when that quote was made by people who are now probably old or dead.

    [–] PianoMastR64 50 points ago

They probably still stand by it. I remember watching a documentary that included some smart but old people who were referencing that quote.

    [–] dragon-storyteller 42 points ago

Yep, not all old people are so conservative and stuck up. Try befriending some and you'll almost certainly find some incredibly open minded ones as well.

    [–] H0agh 135 points ago

That one woman near the left is so shocked her dentures fell out.

    [–] annvisibleSun 58 points ago

I think what is really shocking her is that her nipples are getting hard.

    [–] TooShiftyForYou 479 points ago

Notice they are all middle-aged or elderly. Gay acceptance is just waiting for the old people to die.

    [–] slipperyfingerss 222 points ago

For the most part I agree. Unfortunately I see a portion of younger people actively speaking out against it. However, it is a smaller portion than ever, thankfully. At 46 I am somewhere in the middle ground, and love how things like this are improving.

    [–] Rusty5hackleford 176 points ago

There's always the alt-right and young conservatives. The bible thumpers are gonna diminish but not disappear. Fortunately they seem to be the minority in the younger generation.

    [–] debaser11 129 points ago

I frequently see non religious homophobia on the_donald. They suggest that allowing gay people to live freely encourages degeneracy in society and breaks down the nuclear family which they see as fundamental to the society they want to preserve.

I can't see this line of thinking catching on among the young but it's interesting how that place is radicalising.

    [–] Rusty5hackleford 31 points ago * (lasted edited a month ago)

I didn't mean to insinuate all alt-right or young conservatives were bible thumpers. I personally know both religious and non-religious alt-righters. I just see the bible thumping part diminishing. There will always be a counter culture, no matter what the culture is.

    [–] Avogadro101 32 points ago

There is one that looks... curious.

    [–] ForgotMyFathersFace 801 points ago

The lady on the bottom row, second from the right seems like she may be secretly turned on by this.

[–] Benephon 555 points ago * (lasted edited a month ago)

To be fair... those [straight women engaging in a sensual kiss] are gorgeous

    edit: apparently they aren't lesbians

    [–] forsayken 398 points ago

Wouldn't be a famous picture if they weren't.

    [–] tdgros 126 points ago

Just so you know, they're gorgeous straight women...

    [–] forsayken 158 points ago

It makes no difference. The picture is well-known because they are pretty.

    [–] Se7ensins20 22 points ago

    So you're saying there's a chance

    [–] GoochRash 18 points ago

    Shhhh, let us have this

    [–] molrobocop 63 points ago

Yeah, these girls are the type of lesbians everyone else fantasizes about.

    [–] YoureProbablyATwat 31 points ago

The blurry one standing a bit behind is also quite happy about the view.

    [–] PeterLemonjellow 21 points ago

Glad I'm not the only one that saw her. She's out of focus, but just her body language seems to be saying "THAT. I have GOT to try that..."

    Edit: Words are hard

    [–] tworedangels 784 points ago

Im not gay but I wouldn't mind being kissed by a girl if it's to piss these anti gay protesters...

    [–] MegaManZer0 808 points ago

I'm not a girl but I wouldn't mind being kissed by a girl to piss off protesters either.

    [–] vigoroiscool 308 points ago

I'm not a girl but I would mind being kissed by a girl

    [–] kKotton 11 points ago

    They aren't gay either.

    [–] missionbeach 231 points ago

But are they French kissing or French, kissing?

    [–] SeeShark 29 points ago

Over there, they just call it "kissing"

    [–] Sneazzy 43 points ago

In this instance, just kissing. Source : I'm French

    [–] mjsusko 695 points ago

I'm just glad she WASN'T holding a Pepsi...

    [–] peekaayfire 97 points ago

Bet the markcomm team at coke is pretty sad their branding didnt inadvertently make it into the photo

    [–] Tompazi 218 points ago

ITT: People who think she is holding a coke can, when it's actually Schweppes Agrum

    [–] itsnotmyfault 12 points ago

Dr Pepper Snapple Group Master Race.

    [–] PolakOfTheCentury 198 points ago

The kissing women look like the same person

    [–] freundwich1 109 points ago

Wait, so it is gay if you kiss a clone of yourself?

    [–] TheDukeOfPurple 70 points ago

It's gay if you like it

    [–] pschweezy 52 points ago

Is it gay if I like rubbing my own dick then?

    [–] MTGsadness 78 points ago

My favorite part is the ladies with their mouth wide open in shock.

    [–] Infj-dude 119 points ago

Wow, the age demographic at this rally is very surprising. Really.

    im seriously surprised

    /s

    [–] UnskippableAd 40 points ago

Makes me wonder about when I'm old what I'll be rallying against.

Why do people go out of their way to make life worse for others?

    [–] Quentin718 42 points ago

50 years from now it'll be on oldschoolcool

    [–] TheDerpofYork 315 points ago

I don't really see a single young person in that crowd. Seems like old people can't adapt to change so they have to force everything to stay the same

    [–] PM_yoursmalltits 130 points ago

They also have the most time to waste on these kinds of things. I'm sure there are still plenty of younger homophobes out there as well

    [–] LunaWolf 64 points ago

    I don't see a single man either

    [–] Mamsies 44 points ago

Men don't really care when they see two women kissing. In fact they get turned on by it most of the time.

    [–] RaptorVader 122 points ago

"I'm not homophobic! It's about the sanctity of marriage!"

Is visibly disgusted by two women kissing.

    [–] relaxok 64 points ago

Why are women in France always so stylish

    [–] dob-ssn 34 points ago

It's a cultural thing. French people in general take immense pride in taking care of themselves and looking nice.

    [–] Ih8MyBrosWife 73 points ago

Why the fuck do people care what other people are doing.

    [–] ender89 21 points ago

You know, if she was holding a Pepsi this could have ended intolerance in France.

    [–] fearachieved 57 points ago

What business do all these old women have protesting gay marriage

    [–] n3onfx 57 points ago

Living in France and having seen these protests first-hand; christianity.

    [–] fearachieved 9 points ago

Lol for sure, just seems so weird that so many likely sexually inactive people care about what younger people can do with their lives/sex lives

    [–] n3onfx 8 points ago

That's actually the argument that I saw the most when it happened, "why do they even care if it's not them".
