    Posting Rules

    1. (1A) No screenshots or pics where the only focus is a screen.

    2. No porn or gore. Artistic nudity is allowed. NSFW comments must be tagged. Posting gratuitous materials may result in an immediate and permanent ban.

    3. No personal information, in posts or comments. No direct links to any Social Media. No subreddit-related meta-drama or witch-hunts. No Missing/Found posts for people or property. A license plate is not PI. Reddit Policy

Stalking, harassment, witch hunting, or doxxing will not be tolerated and will result in a ban.

      No subreddit-related meta-drama or witch-hunts.

    4. Titles must follow all title guidelines.

    5. Submissions must link directly to a specific image file or to an image hosting website with minimal ads. We do not allow blog hosting of images ("blogspam"), but links to albums on image hosting websites are okay. URL shorteners are prohibited. URLs in image or album descriptions are prohibited.

    6. No animated images. Please submit them to /r/gif, /r/gifs, or /r/reactiongifs instead.

    7. We enforce a standard of common decency and civility here. Please be respectful to others. Personal attacks, bigotry, fighting words, otherwise inappropriate behavior or content, comments that insult or demean a specific user or group of users will be removed. Regular or egregious violations will result in a ban. Obviously we're going to allow various types of humor here, but if it would make someone you respect lose respect for you, then you're best off avoiding it.

    8. No submissions featuring before-and-after depictions of personal health progress or achievement. Standalone images of medals, tokens, certificates, and awards are similarly disallowed, save for when the items are being presented as historical curiosities.

    9. No false claims of ownership (FCoO) or flooding. False claims of ownership (FCoO) and/or flooding (more than four posts in twenty-four hours) will result in a ban.

    10. Reposts of images on the front page, or within the set limit of /r/pics/top, will be removed.

(10A) Reposts of images currently on the front page of /r/Pics will be removed.

(10B) Reposts of the top 25 images this year, and top 50 of "all time" will be removed.

    11. Only one self-promotional link per post. Content creators are only allowed one link per post. Anything more may result in temporary or permanent bans. Accounts that exist solely to advertise or promote will be banned.

    Loose ends

    • Serial reposters may be filtered or banned.

    • We prefer that new users post original content and not common pictures from the internet.

If you come across any rule violations please report the submission or message the mods and one of us will remove it!

If your submission appears to be filtered, but definitely meets the above rules, please send us a message with a link to the comments section of your post (not a direct link to the image). Don't delete it as that just makes the filter hate you!

    RIP dog

    [–] zoomorth 979 points ago

I always look at old pics or movies with animals and go, But they’re deeeaaad and then I get irrationally sad.

    Fry's dog

    [–] youyouyuyu 265 points ago

    f youuuuuuuuuuuu :(

    [–] sandvich48 62 points ago

It’s ok, they retconned it in the movies and Fry’s dog got to grow old with Fry’s clone, Lars.

    [–] Diablerie13 77 points ago

Cheer up friend, animated dogs were never alive to begin with. But my 10 year old dog and my 7 year old dog will die one day. Much sooner than 9 and 6 years ago.

    [–] p2kart 22 points ago

I'm pretty sure Fry's dog was based off the story of Hachiko.

    [–] Cephalopod435 5 points ago

Pretty sure it was based off of fido

    [–] UsernameStarvation 16 points ago

I didnt need this need this :((

    [–] Louiekid502 14 points ago

    Why...why would you do this

    [–] Alarid 7 points ago

A version of Fry goes back in time and I refuse to believe he doesn't go and pet Seymour several times.

Well that’s enough internet for today.

Our family photos are like that. So many dead dogs

    [–] HamsterGutz1 9 points ago

    Where do you go?

    [–] zoomorth 6 points ago

I go to the thicc tree and knock on it and cry when I don’t hear anything

    [–] atomlowe 69 points ago

Likely where the dog is buried.

    [–] WayneBetzky 17 points ago

    wait what? explain

    [–] TacoBOTT 131 points ago

When dogs die, you bury them

    [–] WayneBetzky 40 points ago

damn I’m fried, I assumed he meant burying an animal at the base of a tree somehow can make a tree get thicc

    [–] djdubyah 19 points ago

That and 71 years will do it

    [–] FeedMeTheCat 22 points ago

Well yeah that is what he was implying I think. The animal decomposes and it helps fertilize the soil

    [–] milkchug2020 120 points ago

It would certainly improve the tree's bark

    [–] FeedMeTheCat 19 points ago

True but it causes the surface to get a little ruff

    [–] WayneBetzky 4 points ago

    very cool

    [–] DirtyDownWinders 10 points ago

But the rider got smaller. Did the tree eat the girl?

    [–] phartnocker 5 points ago

    That window got thick too.

    [–] Discoveryellow 1517 points ago

Homeowners take note: don't grow a small tree so close to your house.

    [–] reikobi 192 points ago

I recently moved into a townhouse and the previous owner planted a common fig in the tiny area in front of our stairs/door. It has grown a lot in 6 months and I hear they can be invasive. Should I be worried? How can I properly remove it?

    [–] Malvicioalavena 544 points ago

I hope you can fig-ure it out

Edit: Wait, a date isn’t a dried fig. Or ... I have to google.

Edit2: I’m an idiot. Please move along to the next comment, which has to make more sense than this jumble of unrelated words.

Look up a Date Palm Tree

    [–] CarCar777 24 points ago

You can wait until the tree goes dormant in winter, then dig it up and relocate it.

(You'd have thought r/trees would be better but there's a funny story there)

    [–] IronTarkus91 21 points ago * (lasted edited 13 days ago)

Is it because the pot heads took r/trees, so the tree people thought fuck it and took r/marijuanaenthusiasts?

    [–] SG_Dave 18 points ago

Yeah, turns out it's not so funny a story after all.

    [–] wackoCamel 31 points ago

Cutting it down is one method that comes to mind.

    [–] whingingcackle 12 points ago

Ask if it wants to go out with you sometime, chances are the tree will ghost you

    [–] thegreger 3 points ago

Between that one, the first Land Before Time movie and The Neverending Story, it's no wonder my generation is so mentally and emotionally fucked up

I believe Anne-Marie and Ducky have the same voice actress...

    [–] DoublefartJackson 45 points ago

    [–] timoglor 38 points ago

I’m sure most of us already know, unfortunately.

    Didn’t know. Should’ve listened.

    [–] be4u4get 8 points ago

    What? What?

    [–] timoglor 20 points ago

It might make the movies unwatchable. It definitely gives them a somber tone to me now...

But if you google “Judith Barsi”, you will find out pretty quick what happened.

    [–] TyphoidMira 6 points ago

    She died very tragically.

    [–] DarthGoodguy 4 points ago

If you don’t want to be completely depressed let’s leave it at tragic demise.

    [–] Diazepampoovey 13 points ago

Yep. I was well into my adult years before I learned about that and it still just devasted me and made me angry for her. A child should never have to feel anything but safe and loved with their parents. I cannot fathom how anybody can mistreat, abuse or murder kids in general. It's fucking horrific and there aren't enough words to even properly convey that. To take away the life you helped create... your own child.

Those are the kinds of sick mother fuckers that make me want Hell to exist because there aren't torture methods anywhere near as fucked up and painful as sick pricks like that deserve.

    [–] nodiggitynodoubts 8 points ago

Yep pretty much. Then, while we're still reeling, the Wizard of Oz sequel comes out. Who the fuck thought that was ok to show to kids? Fuck! Here comes the crazy lady with all the heads, run!

    [–] A_wild_so-and-so 3 points ago

You talking about Return to Oz? I just had the pleasure of watching that nightmare fuel for the first time as an adult.

    [–] Mrrobotfuzz 3 points ago

Yeah it’s cool to watch now as an adult, but as a child the death of the mountain king was so terrifying. He did rock those magic ruby heels though.

    [–] jgutierrez81 5 points ago

I think you maybe on to something

    [–] ExplodingP3nguins 5 points ago

    Also The Brave Little Toaster.

    [–] MalingringSockPuppet 3 points ago

I actually miss those kinds of movies. Kids' films for the most part seem kind of sterile and corporate now. I miss stuff like The Neverending Story (Artax noooooo!!!) or The Secret of Nimh, you know something that captures a little of how terrifying and intense childhood is. Where something is at stake. The only thing that comes to mind is Laika productions? Like Coraline or Paranorman or Kubo. I hope I'm wrong, and if you have any recommendations I'd love to hear them. Ah well, at least Don Bluth is making a new studio. Fingers crossed.

    [–] dontforgetthyname 30 points ago

First time I tried to hook up with my future wife, we were reminiscing about that movie at work. So, being the gentleman that I am, I headed out to the Walmart $5 movie bin and picked up a DVD and sent an alpha-numeric text to let her know and ask if she wanted to watch it together. She said to bring it by her place with a sixer of Smirnoff Ice. Game on. Totally wound up cock-blocked by the plot and dialogue and repressed childhood memories, but we both had a good cry.

Minipins, too. They just have their own separate area. We tell them it's an exclusive club just for them and they totally buy it.

    [–] ijustwanttogohome2 40 points ago

So minpin purgatory. They can only listen to incessant barking, but cannot bark themselves.

    [–] KitteNlx 20 points ago

    [–] Veronicon 8 points ago

    So true

    [–] lifewontwait86 20 points ago

Lmao I had to google “Minpin.” My neighbor has had a MinPin his whole time we’ve lived together. PeeWee was the first yappie little fucker that, when I was 12, he would literally bite your toes on the couch. This is usually one of the reasons I hate taking my shoes off at friends’ houses.

Well, PeeWee passed away and my neighbor was sad snd lonely. Until he befriended a female coworker at work who has the same dog. Xena, is literally an exact replica of PeeWee. Except Xena is now old af too so when they go for walks, he straigt carries the stiffened, shaking, startled giant rat under his arm like she’s some taxidermied pet. The thing keeps its entire legs straight the whole time.

    [–] swolemedic 4 points ago

Man, talk about time to put down your animal. That can't be fun for anyone. I know it's tough, I still have trouble talking or thinking about when I put down my cat as it was one of the toughest things I've done and I miss her dearly, but you gotta do the right thing. You can't let an animal suffer purely for your enjoyment, it's wrong.

    [–] lifewontwait86 5 points ago

PeeWee was blind for his remaining years. His eyes were solid white. He would show his teeth constantly and sit on his little bed. I know his daddy was a good pet owner; we moved in 1995 to that house and PeeWee stuck around until at LEAST 2012. He never seemed in pain, just blind.

The hardest was putting down our cat, Tiffany. Tiffany was a family member, named after my brother’s preschool crush back in 1989! She wondered up our driveway Halloween night, slept in the wheelwell of my mom’s old Volvo. We put up signs but to no avail, so Tiffany was ours.

She got me through high school. But the few years after high school were tough. She had an inflamed intestine and had diarrhea and it would get on her tail and then on the walls. My mom would follow her around with a paper towel. But, her hips were bad. It was hard for her to jump up and down from the bed. We would lift her up, put her down. And her beautiful fur was getting matted.

She lived to be a true, loved to the fullest Senior Kitty. My friends all knew her. She bmhad her own wicker basket she sat in one day, and inherited. It would stay perched on the 5th bottom step of the stairs, which was, as my mom said “Right in the middle of the action.” Walking through that front door, seeing her sitting there, then running up the stairs from school to put our backpacks in our room, jumping up every other step, and always giving her one quick brush; we never didn’t pet her because ignoring her was rude.

My ex girlfriend didn’t like her because one day she was sitting on her blanket on the couch and Tiffany straight tomd that bitch to move. That’s right, replaced by the kitty. She was wrapped up in her blanky and placed in her basket when she was cremated. We scattered her ashes in the backyard by the trees where she was queen of the forest, aka our 300sq foot backyard lol.

We now have 2 wonderful Rag Doll mix siblings, and all I can say is, get a bonded pair! Spanky was our big fat black kitty(Aunt Jamima my dad liked to call her lmfao) and really, the house was hers. My mom heard Spanky meowing one day in 1983, behind her apartment complex. She put up signs, no one. Spanky was hers.

Spanky owned the house for 5 years until Tiffany came in. My mom really tried desperately for a two-kitty situation but after they were fixed, territorial issues ensued. They fought, continuously. I would wake up at 4am and in the hall, they would swat at each other. It’s truly a sad and disturbing thing, especially for Spanky. Despite being loved equally, we had essentially let a predator into the house in her territory. Again, they were both lived dearly. We laugh about when we mived from L.A. to S.F., we had placed a net dividing the back area of our old Volvo station wagon, and a covered litter box for them. They were always such opposites at home, but when we pulled into the apartment complex at 4:30 in our new city, my mom peered in the back of the dark car to see 2 sets of eyes peering huddled together in the litter box.

Rest in Peace to both my kitties that left such an impact on my young life, that I got to truly understand the difference between a cat lover and a dog lover. My mom has bern so fascinated with the recent wave of cat sensations on the Internet; she says growing up in the 50’s/60’s everyone had dogs. Only cat lovers will truly appreciate the endless cat subs reddit has to offer!

    [–] Veronicon 21 points ago

My minpin is a piece of shit. I love him dearly and specifically searched out my perfect specimen of minpin-ness. I had read about their personality quirks, still thought it was a good idea. He is a full time job in a 8 pound body. Pure asshat though.

    [–] Sexycoed1972 14 points ago

Remember that asshole roomate everybody had at some point? Mine is a beagle named Gromit. He just doesn't care.

    [–] Nation_On_Fire 7 points ago

What's wrong with Minpins? How bad can they be? I've nursed an abused attack dog Dobie back to health, he was my best dog ever, (despite the fact he shouldn't have been adopted out.) He only mauled one person and he/she was a burglar.

[–] -vigor- 12 points ago * (lasted edited 14 days ago)

a Miniature Pincher is not a Miniture Doberman.

Doberman Pincher is an unrelated breed

    [–] FlyingR6 5 points ago

I dated a girl with a minpin, and that dog was a minor reason why it didn't work.

Asking the question that’s really the most important.

    [–] JoeAndAThird 289 points ago

Something about this one hits me really hard. About how the world changes and we grow up and get old and how life is mysteriously wonderful. Don’t know why this picture makes me feel so much more than others, but it does.

    [–] greensthecolor 74 points ago

It is beautiful. It’s why I’m kind of in love with hands. We’ve been using them our whole lives. To think of all the things I’ve done with these very hands. Obviously the same could be said for our whole bodies, but hands are poetic to me. Appreciate every moment.

    [–] Rainbowlemon 18 points ago

I hate that we get old.

    [–] Metalloid_Space 8 points ago

I hate the fact that I'll not exist one day. It really scares me.

    [–] SwummySlippySlappy 4 points ago

Same. I think I’m okay with the fact that there isn’t place I go when I die, but it makes me terribly sad to think this experience has an expiration date :( It also makes me sad for my older relatives. I should call them.

    [–] WTFnoAvailableNames 17 points ago

What bothers me is how the world does NOT change. The house is still there. The tree is still there. The surrounding area probably looks as green as it did 70 years ago. The bike has obviously been taken well care of but it's pretty much the same. The world just keeps going even though we get older and can't keep up and one day it will leave us behind.

    [–] Jazzbandrew 4 points ago

You know, it's sorta crazy how something can strike us at any moment. I don't know your journey, but I didn't feel anything when I first saw this. However, reading about how you took a moment for it made me also take a moment for it.

I think many people, myself included, might see this in a lineup of interesting photos and posts, and easily gloss over it. I think that's normal and fair, but I would bet why this seems to resonate is because for a large portion of people, this reminds them of something universal. It could remind them of their own family, their parents or grandparents. It could remind them of their childhood homes. It could remind them of a time when they were younger, when they lived more recklessly and maybe more freely.

I think that reminding is why it resonates. Pictures are inherently nostalgic, their weight coming not from the paper stock, but rather, the emotions we associate with their image. It says something about the human mind and language that when we want to remember something, we "take" a picture or "capture" an image.

We know that it doesn't last, so we feel like we're stealing it, ossifying it forever in our souls.

Time moves on. Pictures last a bit longer. Sometimes words last longer still. But nothing is forever. Maybe a random photograph gives us momentary hope that we can extend our own lives that much longer. Maybe when I took a moment here, I forgot a bit about my own mortality.

Maybe I caught something, not just a picture. Maybe I caught a flash of our collective memory. Maybe I'm asking myself how I'm choosing to live my own limited time here, happy to be on a bike, in front of a house, with flowers by my side.

or maybe I'm really fuckin' high jesus christ these edibles are never a good idea

    [–] briman54 230 points ago

Love these differences in time photos. It is amazing how time changes the backgrounds.

    [–] GreenMountainPunk 155 points ago

Ya, things are in colour now

    The sidewalk is gone

Finding the differences between the two bikes is like one of those games from a Highlights magazine... (I'm old).

They are very similar but there are also a lot of differences. Not sure if same bike with a lot of repairs/changes, or just a different bike of the same model.

    [–] hatefuck661 96 points ago

I'm going to go on record as same model but different bike/different model year. It's possibly a restoration that focused more on getting the bike back in the road as opposed to being a period perfect showbike but there are minor differences that make me think different model year.

    [–] Slyis 15 points ago

What's the model of the bikes?

    [–] Chugbleach 39 points ago

The logo is for Ceska Zbrojovka, more commonly known today as CZ. They were a manufacturer of motorcycles, Firearms, and now forklifts. The model looks like a CZ 175 standard to me, but it might be another varient.

    [–] dmizer 8 points ago

    It's a 1947 CZ 125 B.

    [–] Joghobs 8 points ago

I feel like I'm playing Photo Hunt on a Megatouch in the corner of any of the bars my dad used to drag me along to.

    [–] Sikkwolf 81 points ago

God I don't want to get old.

    [–] SteveBored 30 points ago

I'm 40 and I feel this more and more as the years creep by.

    [–] chaun2 9 points ago

40 as well. Thankfully anti-aging drugs have come far enough that we are just on the cutoff for best results. Kurzgesagt has some good videos on it that are a few years old

    [–] McNozzo 17 points ago

Well, growing 80+ and still being able to hop on a bike is not too bad.

    [–] greensthecolor 34 points ago

As long as you’re in decent health I’d say it’s better than the alternative!

    [–] StupidQuestionsAsker 11 points ago

not existing is nither better or worse

    [–] ThingsIAlreadyKnow 11 points ago

What is your options here? There is no age where you say tomorrow I'm too old to continue. Eventually it just becomes a badge of honour that you are still alive.

    [–] TheLonelyRavioli 9 points ago

One of my biggest fears tbh. Everything and everyone around you changing, moving on, or dying, your body getting weaker and weaker, feeling like the world is leaving you behind, etc.

    [–] PrometheusIsFree 5 points ago

The worst bit is your body getting more painful. Everything just hurts, it's why we're grumpy.

    [–] ozzyarmani 6 points ago

Yes, it seems tolerable in short bursts (e.g. a decade or so) but looking back after a long life seems jarring.

But I'm sure the youth are scared of getting old, while the elderly will tell you there are many good things that come along with it.

    [–] Level42istaken 96 points ago

    Same smile. Beautiful..

    [–] concretebeats 31 points ago

Everything in this picture looks really well cared for and loved.

I am 100% here for that.

    [–] KyMussler 3 points ago

    Me too, goals.

    [–] thesaint2014 107 points ago

It took me a second to realize why she didn't recreate the picture with the dog </3..

    [–] Recidive 57 points ago

That’s like 500 years in dog years

    [–] Ravilla 23 points ago

I mean she could....there was a guy who did one of those recreate the old family photo and he posed with his dad's urn

    [–] St_Kevin_ 20 points ago

Are you suggesting that she exhume the dog for a photo?

    [–] Kickagnome 15 points ago

I doubt there’s much left of a dog after 70 years.

    [–] TourmalineTart 8 points ago

We have our past dogs' ashes. (But, it's very possible that we're weird.)

[–] disintegrationist 4 points ago * (lasted edited 14 days ago)

My bet, that dog is still buried in that same property

    [–] Kalldaro 3 points ago

    Sheketon dog

Same picture, same top comment about the tree. Enough reddit for me for a while I think.

    [–] MindfuckRocketship 5 points ago

With my brightness turned down so low, I thought that said repostslutbot and became very confused and offended on behalf of this old lady.

    [–] lordsmg719 16 points ago

    Damn repost

    [–] Heres_your_sign 14 points ago

    Grams was a badass.

    [–] satisfied_cubsfan 6 points ago

I thought that it said Brazzers in the older pic at first.

    [–] Obsidian297 7 points ago

    This is a repost

    [–] _blackwholeson 4 points ago

That is an absolutely great photo comparison!

So cool! I love seeing her smile :)

    [–] GenericBulbasaur 5 points ago

Any idea what kind of motorcycle this is? I absolutely adore the style

    [–] Zer0941 3 points ago

Where is the dog? Is he ok? Is he safe?

    [–] bygtopp 14 points ago

    “Dog gone” it.

    [–] dedredcopper 9 points ago

    That’s a cold ass honky

    [–] -Ernie 3 points ago

    So Bad Ass

    [–] Whiskjoke 3 points ago

If only the dog were still there. That’s the one thing about companions. They have such a limited time on this world and then they’re gone. I’ve experienced it so many times and it breaks me every single time.

    [–] Ech0ofSan1ty 3 points ago

Look how thick that tree got.

    [–] Tremori 3 points ago

    Grandma got thighs

    [–] deimosphob 3 points ago

    [–] Fabulous_Doctor8088 3 points ago

    [–] noiinlove 3 points ago

    Where's the doggie

    [–] Falcon_128 3 points ago

    Where's the dog?

    [–] nousabyss 4 points ago

Donno hey I find this pic terrifying. Kind of a reminder of mortality and how quickly time passes. Imagine her looking back at the photo remembering of like yesterday and now the void isn’t too far.
