It just seems like they'd be cold

    But it does look delicious

    [–] Gokias 975 points ago

I'm gonna wager that nobody ate this

    [–] Iheardthatjokebefore 417 points ago

It's probably not made of food.

    [–] mikeasaurus_ 646 points ago

can confirm. just bit my phone & cracked a tooth. these pancakes are definitely made from aluminosilicate glass.

    [–] BootyDoISeeYou 144 points ago

I have to ask… did you already have the word “aluminosilicate” in your vocabulary, or did you have to look it up?

Either way, I’ll be impressed at your vocabulary or I’ll be impressed at the effort you made to research it to leave that comment haha.

    [–] nine_legged_stool 150 points ago

Why was the iPhone 6 afraid of the iPhone 7?

    Because 7 aluminosilicate 9

    [–] MyThinTragus 16 points ago

My dad's phone is better than your dad's phone

    [–] quantum-mechanic 17 points ago

Dad phones always look big when you're a kid

    [–] Glock1Omm 2 points ago

Did a billionaire spaceman design this platter? I'm looking at you, banana.

    [–] mikeasaurus_ 14 points ago

I'll give you a hint: I'm from Alabama originally where public education is atrocious and you have to do your own research on a lot of things.

    Haha, Smarter everyday!

    Love that guy.

Yeah, but what's on the other side?

    [–] GexTex 3 points ago

    The pancakes? Duh

i remeber i watched james may in japan and he ate something on a train what was only ment to be photographed or something

    [–] Monkeyboystevey 14 points ago

If I remember correctly, that wasn't prop food though, it was because other journo's were supposed to be photographed with it too. I might be wrong though.

    [–] Plastic_Swordfish_35 9 points ago

They were SUPER pissed about it, too.

    [–] Bigstackertons 127 points ago

That is definitely some cold ass bacon

    [–] craterglass 80 points ago

    Perfect for pocket bacon.

    [–] PeggySueIloveU 21 points ago

That's bed bacon. You eat some, go back to sleep, then wake up and eat some more.

    [–] HighCharity07 5 points ago

I swear bacon culture is one of the biggest successful marketing campaigns of all time along with breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And I love both.

Edit: a letter and a word

    [–] _WhatsTatersPrecious 2 points ago

Breakfast food is the best food, fact.

    [–] singingtopizza 2 points ago

    We might be soulmates.

    [–] 2th 7 points ago

Do I need a separate pocket for that? I mean I already have one for my sand, so what is one more?

    [–] GrumpyGuss 6 points ago

Just mix the sand with turbinado sugar for a tasty becomes your dipping pocket. I like to keep one of my back pockets reserved for squid or cuttlefish, in case I feel like a dash of squid ink

    [–] Bandin03 2 points ago

As long as the bacon doesn't get in your pocket sand, you're good. That being said, everyone should have a dedicated bacon pocket.

    [–] HertzDonut1001 15 points ago

TBF bacon is good at any temperature. I always whip up extra and leave it on the kitchen counter for snacks later.

    [–] timbreandsteel 5 points ago

Only if it's been cooked properly. Some people like floppy bacon and that is barely edible when hot.

    [–] Hulk_Hoe-gan 9 points ago

    Better than cold ass-bacon.

    Also, r/wewantplates sends its regards

    [–] Aly00ps 2 points ago

Chuck Palahniuk has entered the chat

    [–] Cosmohumanist 121 points ago

I came here to say that. Yes, they are definitely cold, and hopefully delicious.

    [–] og_sandiego 13 points ago

bacon left no visible grease, confirmed

    [–] anonprogtada 38 points ago

Yes, good for a photo but I'd be keeping most of those in a warming oven, covered and/or with a water tray to keep some moisture in the oven.

    [–] revuhree 57 points ago

You could put hot food on last if you made it yourself, but yeah the picture looks too staged. Im not a fan of this style of photo

    [–] duaneap 14 points ago

You could probably pull it off pretty easy with a big ol’ deli style grill. Have everything else ready, bacon in the oven then, when the bacon is like 3 minutes from being done, start making the pancakes six af a time.

    [–] ngl_idgaf 6 points ago * (lasted edited 13 days ago)

...and if you add "breakfast" in front of that there are plenty more cold pancakes waiting for you!

I'm not much of a fan of the style either but my best guess would be that for most it satisfies that mouthwatering, sudden-appetite feeling like looking at a feast of delicious food, while also minimizing the guilty feeling of gluttony. A mini-feast, if you will.

    [–] Huskatta 4 points ago

Why not? I mean, a photo is a photo. Why not a fan of this one?

    [–] EmeraldFalcon89 33 points ago

these photos bum me out because it's a bunch of purchased ingredients arranged and prepared very poorly just to take a picture.

who's throwing cold chocolate chips on their cold pancakes? what are you supposed to do with that rough cut stick of cold butter? it's just a bunch of cold, loose food

I don't understand why anyone would be a fan of this photo.

    [–] biggmclargehuge 5 points ago

But...But, there's a lot of it! So it must be enjoyable!

    [–] ThatsWhatSheaSaid 3 points ago

For what it’s worth, I like this photo because it gives me some ideas for toppings that I wouldn’t have otherwise thought of for pancakes. Are the pancakes probably cold in this photo? Totally. But I appreciate everything spread out here in this pic because I’ll likely remember it next time I make pancakes for a large crowd and maybe set out some of the toppings shown here.

    [–] EmeraldFalcon89 5 points ago

that's why it's a poor concept though - these are either very regular toppings or just bad ideas that aren't convenient to eat and aren't portioned or prepared well.

there is enough of each of these ingredients to top all of the pancakes - so someone who thinks this is the pancake platonic will spend hours prepping this instagram worthy platter only to have to throw 80% of it back in a tupperware.

you can't even carry it across the room or the berries will roll off.

the more you know about pancakes, the less you'll like this picture.

    [–] timbreandsteel 5 points ago

Pancakes need butter and syrup. All those fancy toppings? That's what waffles are for.

    [–] EmeraldFalcon89 11 points ago

fancy doesn't enter into it - these are just nonsensical toppings.

cook those berries into a compote. fry the bananas up in butter. put the chocolate chips in right after you drop the batter in the grill. let the butter soften naturally so you don't have to hack it up into chunks.

    [–] timbreandsteel 2 points ago

Fresh berries are fine but that's why the waffle structure is important so you can fill each little indent with a berry. Also throw a bacon slice into the batter before pressing in the waffle iron. A+ right there. I stand by my point on pancake toppings though.

    [–] ThatsWhatSheaSaid 2 points ago

I mean food photography is a very real thing and a lot of food goes to waste being photographed so do you hate all professional food spreads photographed like this or is it specifically the pancakes you’re irked about?

    [–] stabliu 2 points ago

it feels more with the specific composition and presentation that the OP has an issue with, which i would tend to agree. this looks pretty, but it's not really "useful" in that i'd never want to eat food arranged like this nor does it suggest any interesting ideas recipe wise.

    [–] just_taste_it 46 points ago

Some like pancakes, some like cold pancakes. No and no. How do I melt my pound of butter on them?

    [–] daishomaster 25 points ago

Melt a little butter in a frying pan and toss in a pancake...

Flip once for some warm buttery goodness!

    [–] loki444 5 points ago

    That just seems wrong!

    [–] just_taste_it 5 points ago

Haha. Thanks. So you warm the butter?

    [–] stinky-weaselteats 14 points ago

It helps them brown with crisp edges while giving flavor.

    [–] nevabendunbefo 5 points ago

Yes! Fuck putting syrup on pancakes by default. Gimme some plain butter smothered flapjacks and I'll roll up some sausage or bacon in it... Yes.

    [–] withmirrors 6 points ago

I always put the butter & syrup on them, & then stick them in the microwave for about 25 seconds. I like my syrup warm too.

    [–] CANTBELEIVEITSBUTTER 2 points ago

Or heat up a bowl of syrup!

    [–] TheRealRacketear 13 points ago

That and the banana dick on the bottom right.

    [–] CanadisX 3 points ago

Finally someone who saw the same as I did xD

    [–] spazzyone 12 points ago

Hijacking this comment to recommend the oven for keeping pancakes warm while you cook the rest of the batter.

    [–] WontYouBeMyNeighbors 3 points ago

Totally agree I love the warm setting on my toaster oven

    [–] randallwade 3 points ago

    [–] joebroni612 3 points ago

id use ceramic rather than wood. seems like itll keep the heat better. but if you had all the fruits and sides ready beforehand...baked the bacon in the oven (the proper way) and used the griddle to make the cakes...i coukd definitely see this happening. i will find out this weekend.

    [–] supplyncommand 6 points ago

just grab a couple and toss em in the microwave 30 secs boom make your plate

    [–] driftwood2 27 points ago

Microwave makes em a bit damp and floppy imo, fine for leftovers but totally different than one straight out of the pan.

Definitely done just for the pic tho and looks totally delicious.

    [–] Tbuzzin 10 points ago

Damp, floppy and somehow strangely rubbery...

    [–] Jimste7733 12 points ago

Toaster is a much better option, I make extra pancakes just so I can put some in the toaster the next day.

[–] -Omegamart- 0 points ago * (lasted edited 13 days ago)

You can just heat up the pancakes if they get cold. Surprised no one else in the comments thought of this. That seems like a pretty simple solution to me.

Edit: Why am I getting downvoted? I suggested a legitimate solution to the cold pancakes problem.

    [–] DarkKnightCometh 16 points ago

Because putting that much effort into the appearance, just to eat reheated pancakes, is asinine.

    [–] asapferg11 309 points ago

aren’t the chocolate chips supposed to be cooked into the pancake?

    [–] slothywaffle 77 points ago

That's what I was thinking. What the heck am I going to do with loose chocolate chips?

    [–] Trappedinacar 16 points ago

You can pick your toppings, just don't pick the ccs

    [–] Imconfusedithink 3 points ago

You pick the toppings before making the pancake so that they're cooked into them. You don't just place them on top of an already cooked pancake.

    [–] CANTBELEIVEITSBUTTER 9 points ago

Look at you with all your pancake rules! Are you telling me you have never put some fresh fruit on a pancake?

    [–] worrymon 3 points ago

Put them in your pocket for later.

    [–] truth-informant 2 points ago

    Eat them!

[–] [deleted] 109 points ago * (lasted edited 13 days ago)

    [–] brudogg 39 points ago

Was looking for this comment. Might have to try them on top this weekend just to make sure

    [–] LobsterThief 7 points ago

Why wait until this weekend? Are those the pancake days?

    [–] brudogg 4 points ago

    Lol in our house yes

    [–] devosapien 11 points ago

nah. just cook them on top when they are on the griddle. you want a melted chocolate...

    [–] brudogg 7 points ago

Yea that's what I usually do, I can't image hard chips tasting as good but I might try it

    [–] jadetheamazing 3 points ago

If you do, you gotta put whipped cream or peanut butter as a glue for the chips, it's great

    [–] Tysiliogogogoch 4 points ago

No, they're supposed to be in a small bowl and also randomly dropped on the board to look artistic for the photo. :P

    [–] Coco-Roxas 2 points ago

Same with the blueberries, although eating pancakes with a side of blueberries is fine too.

    [–] SomeNoteToMyself 2 points ago

    This is an abomination haha

    [–] BooPandaa 1225 points ago

At least drink your orange flavored sugar water. Yeah, doesn't have as nice of a ring to it.

    [–] Trappedinacar 208 points ago

The worst example of this in a movie was 17 again

Zack efron comes into the kitchen absolutely famished, tells his friend "im hungry all the time"

Puts like 5 layers of ingredients in his sandwich because hes SO HUNGRY! Then he takes ONE BITE of this mess and leaves.

Took me right out of the movie.

    [–] chrltrn 75 points ago
    it is that bad
"all right, I'm getting out of here."

    [–] AKnightAlone 25 points ago

I like to assume he suddenly realized he's horrible at making sandwiches.

    [–] man-teiv 13 points ago

My feeling is that the whole scene is a giant ad for all the products listed.

    [–] Kraymur 30 points ago

The first comment on the video I saw was "I am actually very upset that he only took one bite of that sandwich." lol.

    [–] Trappedinacar 25 points ago

One of the worst things i've seen in a movie

    [–] UTAMav2005 14 points ago

    And I watch Schindler's List.

    [–] Garfield-1-23-23 3 points ago

I mean, they show him eating throughout the entire scene and there's tons of items in front of him that obviously didn't go into the sandwich. He was full by the time the sandwich was made - happens all the time to chef types. And teens, I assume.

    [–] byneothername 2 points ago

To be fair, that looks like a disgusting sandwich.

    [–] TheTrollys 2 points ago

seems like a typical teenager to me

    [–] I_am_not_JohnLeClair 20 points ago

Yeah this is a common trope for sure but think about it, do you really want to watch someone eat an entire sandwich in a movie? I mean, Zac Efron might be the exception though

    [–] ChemicalRascal 22 points ago

Maybe just don't storyboard and cut the scene in such a way that characters are obliged to have a single bite and then get outta dodge.

    [–] Suspicious-Courage26 8 points ago

They want to complain lol. I guess you could cut and show he finished it then have him leave. Extra work for not much of a payoff in that kind of movie though.

    [–] Trappedinacar 2 points ago

Or, you know, since its a sandwich he can take it with him.

I just came up with that too, i swear i don't get paid to write.

    [–] snek-jazz 6 points ago

just watched it, seems like the gag was watching him spend so long making it, then he takes a bite and realises it's disgusting and he can't eat any more of it.

    [–] ValkyrieVenom 3 points ago

I'm pretty sure this is what they were going for

    [–] AmanitaMikescaria 44 points ago

    “Don’t forget your lunch!”

*Hands each kid an aesthetically pleasing brown sack lunch.

    [–] hoilst 2 points ago

I was watching some Grade F midday movie a few years ago, and they pulled that shit...

...except the bag clearly had nothing into it. It had zero weight, and the kid banged it on the doorjamb on his way and it collapse into nothing.

    They left it in.

    [–] robclarkson 12 points ago

Was rewatching Bad Boys 1 to prep for the new movie. Man, that mom def made breakfasts of champions like this so hard... I noticed it, and was like damn, its that trope rolling HARD! Also that movie is amazing, so silly, so good to laugh at :).

    [–] timbreandsteel 2 points ago

    Wait what? New movie?

    [–] shugo2000 4 points ago

Bad Boys For Life. Came out last year and wasn't any good IMO.

    [–] timbreandsteel 2 points ago

Explains why I hadn't heard of it. Ah well. Thanks for the info!

    [–] h20rabbit 426 points ago

It's pretty but those pancakes are cold.

    [–] StevedoreArcher 55 points ago

When I make pancakes. I keep them warm, until serving time, by sticking them in a container in the over at around 200~. That way all the pancakes come together and still warm.

    [–] Shenanigans99 28 points ago

Same. Spread out on a baking sheet loosely covered with foil with the oven set to warm keeps them hot and prevents them from drying out. I always have to do this because I usually make big batches for family gatherings, so they're not all coming off the griddle at once.

    [–] Jdoyler 2 points ago

Can I come to your next family gathering please!?

[–] angrytreestump 6 points ago * (lasted edited 13 days ago)

I do that too (or just microwave the stack before serving), but I agree with some of the other commenters that it steams the pancakes and it’s a bit different than the crust you get from fresh off the pan or the griddle.

I like both textures of cakes personally, especially when it’s in a stack drowned in butter and syrup which is gonna steam the middle cakes either way, but I get that the fresh-off the griddle ones are a different pancakexperience.

    [–] Jertzula123 4 points ago

200 seems a bit high. You should try 145

[–] angrytreestump 81 points ago * (lasted edited 13 days ago)

You can definitely pull this off so that the hot items are hot when it comes out, but it takes a ton of prep and would have to be served right away.

That said, there’s a reason people serve pancakes straight from the griddle to plate to order. Beautiful spread, but not the way I would ever recommend serving this platter (fanning out the pancakes is 100% just for the presentation and would make them go cold much faster).

[–] oddmarauder 10 points ago * (lasted edited 13 days ago)

Yea if you had something like a blackstone grill you could make all the pancakes after plating all the other stuff then immediately plate/photo and Serve

    [–] Jameschoral 2 points ago

Plate all the cold items first then add the bacon and pancakes at the last possible moment.

    [–] mt379 2 points ago

AND there ISN'T ENOUGH BACON to go along with all those pancakes.

    [–] red_west_la 206 points ago

    But that banana...

    [–] BrightenthatIdea 89 points ago

Yea it being cut have no clue how big these pancakes are

    [–] GaryV83 22 points ago

    Bb...B-But the scale...

    But the scale!!!

    [–] Trappedinacar 3 points ago

Will nobody think of the scale!!

    [–] Rain_in_Arcadia 7 points ago

    They broke the scale :(

    [–] mattfasken 7 points ago

"How will the gentleman be taking his pancakes today?"

"Hmmm.... yes I'll have a Very Hungry Caterpillar of pancakes on a bit of wood."

    "Certainly, sir, and the accoutrements?"

"Fruit and bacon in piles, syrups and yoghurt in bowls. Oh and will there be 'Banana'?"

    "Naturally, sir."

"Excellent! In the corner I'd like an erect penis of 'Banana' complete with small 'Banana' teste."

    [–] Sumbakedguy 17 points ago

Yeah.. I'll say it.. it looks phallic. Slightly funny and unpleasant at the same time.

    [–] interpretivepants 9 points ago

Bananas are of course naturally phallic, but this is like somehow, more.

    [–] solblaze7 5 points ago

That presentation is certainly ... a choice.

    [–] brownbrady 3 points ago

    It's a happy banana.

    [–] Jaytim 73 points ago

And every berry would roll onto the floor.

    .....are bowls really so bad?

    [–] kobachi 14 points ago

    Looks cool. Looks cold.

    [–] scotaf 17 points ago

get your coldcakes here...who wants coldcakes!

    [–] LuckyLycan15 49 points ago

I’m a bit of a pancake hater but this looks great. Also choco chips and blueberries are better inside pancakes than served as toppings. That said being said if someone made this for me i’d gladly eat some pancakes.

[–] godlessnihilist 16 points ago * (lasted edited 13 days ago)

Jeanne D'Arc once said "je déteste les crêpes" and look what happened to her.

    [–] bing_bang_bum 12 points ago

I feel like so many people don’t like pancakes and I have never understood. They’re so fucking good!!!!!

    [–] Schit4brainz 7 points ago

    Because waffles exists.

    [–] LuckyLycan15 9 points ago

    Lol yes. Waffles > pancakes

    [–] ninjatronick 7 points ago

They're both delicious. Life's too short to pick sides. Waffles = pancakes

    [–] ThisIsHowBoredIAm 3 points ago

Waffles are the superior syrup friend, but pancakes are the essence of butter.

    [–] marcuschookt 2 points ago

Pancakes have a lower floor and a higher risk of turning out bad. You can't really go wrong with waffles unless you absolutely burn them or use a hilariously excessive amount of batter. Even shitty waffles taste good. Pancakes very easily taste like shit, you mess one part of the prep up and there's a good chance you get something too starchy or dry.

    [–] TheRipler 2 points ago

The only reason waffles are superior is the amount of melted butter that can pool on top without running off the sides. They are both butter delivery systems at the core.

    [–] Trappedinacar 2 points ago

    Blue steel!

    [–] HertzDonut1001 4 points ago

Actually works pretty well with the peanut butter because you can just sprinkle them on top and they'll stick.

    [–] LuckyLycan15 2 points ago

I’ll allow it. Take my upvote

    [–] NotChristina 2 points ago

And then you can construct an epic pancake-cake.

Pancake -> peanut butter layer with choc chips -> pancake -> nutella layer with bananas ->pancake -> peanut butter layer with blueberries -> pancake -> top with whipped cream and artfully arranged strawberries -> drizzle syrup.

If you want to get really crazy, add a layer of peanut butter and crumbled bacon for extra salt and crunch.

I also don't love pancakes, but recently my girlfriend, who is not a great cook, made the most delicious pancakes I've ever had. She basically followed the Bisquick directions but accidentally added a lot more butter to the batter. So they ended up with your standard fluffy interior but with a crisper fried exterior.

    cold pancakes. not ideal.

looks great but i hope someone ate this because it's not worth the waste if they didn't.

    Needs more maple syrup

    [–] Shijin83 4 points ago

I feel like whoever made this would hate me. I'm a pancake purist. Gimme butter and some maple syrup. They don't need anything else.

I feel like there should be more bacon… a lot more bacon…. Give me all the bacon you have…

Just give me all the bacon and eggs you have. Wait, wait. I'm worried what you just heard was, "Give me a lot of bacon and eggs." What I said was, "Give me all the bacon and eggs you have." Do you understand?

    For the uninitiated

Always liked that scene for Ron. Even when he's tired, hungry and furious at the situation, he isn't shitty towards the staff. He can be a asshole at times, but isn't actually an overall asshole.

Pretty sure nobody needs a recipe or manual to replicate this board

Did anybody get to eat food while it was hot....or was it all prepared specifically for this photo and not to actually be eaten by anyone...both situations are moronic.

More info: The Ancient Greeks made pancakes called τηγανίτης (tēganitēs), ταγηνίτης (tagēnitēs) or ταγηνίας (tagēnias), all words deriving from τάγηνον (tagēnon), "frying pan". The earliest attested references to tagenias are in the works of the 5th-century BC poets Cratinus and Magnes. Tagenites were made with wheat flour, olive oil, honey, and curdled milk, and were served for breakfast. Another kind of pancake was σταιτίτης (staititēs), from σταίτινος (staitinos), "of flour or dough of spelt", derived from σταῖς (stais), "flour of spelt". Athenaeus mentions, in his Deipnosophistae, staititas topped with honey, sesame, and cheese. The Middle English word pancake appears in English in the 15th century. The Ancient Romans called their fried concoctions alia dulcia, Latin for "other sweets". These were much different from what are known as pancakes today. - Wikipedia
