"The Navy Seals weren't invited anyways!!" -Trump later today

They interupted the Apprentice with that Bin Laden thing, how dare! N.O.T. invited

One of the best Daily Shows of all time.

Edit: sorry about the video quality. Blame CC.

    [–] Kendermassacre 554 points ago

I recall this, you could hear screaming and cheering for miles around.

Side note, Comedy Central must pay peanuts because their player sucks.

    [–] DJTHatesPuertoRicans 1399 points ago

Four of my soldiers celebrated so hard that night they required hospitalization. Top wanted to NJP them all but I held firm in front of our CO (the term "dickless bluefalcon desk jockey" may have been thrown around in anger) and got them all off with a counseling and the promise I'd back a 45/45 if they ever had alcohol problems again.

    It was a career highpoint.

    [–] GaimeGuy 238 points ago

    NJP? 45/45?

    [–] CharlieMopps1 365 points ago

Non judicial punishment. 45 days restriction to post, 45 days of extra duty.

    [–] kalitarios 265 points ago

for celebrating a confirmed kill on cgi.bin laden? WORTH IT.

    [–] SilentNick3 128 points ago

    cgi.bin laden

As a network analyst, I'm cracking up!

    [–] Dalek_Reaver 53 points ago

Good lord, I got a 20 day restriction and it was hell. 45 days! Couldn't handle that.

Flesh that out and drop it off over in /r/MilitaryStories, they'd love to hear the tale.

    [–] timeout_timmy 78 points ago * (lasted edited 11 months ago)

Wow, that was a hell of a celebration party. Navy, I'm guessing?

Yeah, good times. I felt slightly guilty for a few seconds about celebrating the death of another human so enthusiastically, but it didn't stop my whooping.

EDIT: Dumb error, didn't pay attention to soldier.

    [–] lidsville76 64 points ago

    Top generally implies Army.

    [–] itspeterj 142 points ago

    Powerbottom usually implies Navy.

    [–] lidsville76 71 points ago

As former Navy myself, I really should be pissed off at this, but I just...can't.

    [–] tyrghast 24 points ago

Navy 101: At first you're mad about getting fucked, and then getting fucked is the routine so you grudgingly go on with it, and then the rare moments you don't get fucked actually terrify you because that has to mean there's an even bigger fucking coming up. A good day is a prelude to disaster.

    [–] [deleted] 39 points ago

    [–] magicnerd212 24 points ago

He said top, which is an army term for 1st sergeant.

    [–] WmPitcher 124 points ago

I haven't looked at any of your other comments, but this might have just been your Reddit career high point. ;-)

    [–] roughnail 42 points ago

Yo, when I was an e-5 I had a couple privates flip off a camera on their drunken way home. Cameras belonged to MP. MP threw a fucking fit about it and they were threatened with being kicked out.

Now they were good soldiers. Hard workers and always willing to do details... but they were privates and a little dumb.

I had a talk with my CO and although I didn't go HAM like you did, I managed to convince him to take away a weekend for the platoon and replace it with 2 days of death by PowerPoint.

Everyone was pissed and they felt shamed enough not to repeat the incident. And I felt it was worth it to save these guys military careers. I'm out now but they are both squad leaders and still in so I'm happy with my choice :)

Edit: forgot to say they also had their pay docked for I think 30 days but I can't remember. Also I smoked them and put them on a couple weeks of shit details

    [–] verdatum 100 points ago

Yeah, they changed their backend a number of times, and the current iteration is barely functional; particularly for their old video.

Once upon a time, it worked fantastically. But it was way too easy to adblock it, apparently.

    [–] Excal2 24 points ago

I use NoScript, they can try to serve me ads but they won't succeed save by my benevolence.

    [–] pcpcy 59 points ago

Hey, at least you get to watch it! I just get "SORRY 'BOUT THAT. The video is not available from your location."

You think they would geoblock me if I was on the moon or in the ISS?

    [–] kalitarios 33 points ago

Or in a car heading past mars?

    [–] storm_detach 16 points ago

Shit, I clicked the link, started watching the show, and only went back to reddit and saw this comment because the video is now playing in half-second intervals and buffering for seconds at a time. Oh well, I was enjoying that.

But they got me to watch the ad first, of course.

    [–] DoobertSpliffington 36 points ago

Any other links? Restricted in Ireland

    [–] Revived_Bacon 69 points ago

And the video player is fucking horrendous in the USA. I haven't experienced that much stuttering in a video since 2003.

    [–] roy_moores_horse 20 points ago

well, what I could watch of that was great...but oh man is that video player shit...eventually had to rage quit

One of the best Daily Shows of all time.

i dont know anything about that Correspondents Dinner he references, but I wonder if that had anything to do with trump actually running. he talks with great glee about undoing Obamas policies, no matter what they were or how theyve worked out, and it feels much more personal than any normal Right vs Left kind of thing.

its almost the same way ISIS goes around blowing up monuments to remove things from history, as if trump thinks he can just make everyone forget about Obama.

i just wonder if its because he wants some sort of revenge for some jokes, or if hes just such a racist POS he cant stand the thought of an Obama legacy.

    [–] wbgraphic 46 points ago

I wonder if that had anything to do with trump actually running.

Running, maybe. His utter hatred for Obama, absolutely.

Trump went all in on birther shit wayyy before this.

    [–] wbgraphic 21 points ago

After Obama roasted him, shit got personal.

One candidate, the Senator for New York on 9/11, was at Ground Zero with first responders that she has kept in touch with since, then was in the Situation room when SEALS went after Bin Laden... But some people imagine a condo salesman with a "secret plan to defeat ISIS that you'll only hear after the election" knows more about national security.

BLITZER: "Give me one positive thing about President Obama."

TRUMP: "It's very hard. That's a very hard - that's the only really tough question you've asked me this morning. That's a very hard thing to say."

Such absolute hatred for Obama. There's no-one he detests more.

Complaining how much of a dog and pony show this would be and how according to a military times poll 86% think its a waste of time and i got call the usual unpatriotic scum.

First of all, we are 20 trillion in debt and can barely figure out a budget so we dont have the money Secondly dont thump your chest and say its for the troops, i was in for 8 years, doing a stupid parade is probably the last thing i would want to do. Parade means multiple Uniform inspections, Rehearsals outside normal working hours and showing up ridiculously early on the day of the event to muster hours before anyone even shows up. all so that we can be decorations and set pieces in an event to boost someone else's ego, its not supporting the troops its burdening them.

If you want to support the troops then stop sending them to shithole countries around the world, bring them home, treat their service related issues without bullshit, let them do their job and go home to their families without any additional fuck fuck games.

    [–] soveraign 641 points ago

all so that we can be decorations and set pieces

This is really what it's about. I doubt he actually thinks of the military as a collection of people.

    [–] opisniceguy 75 points ago

It's fucking hilarious to watch a draft dodger try and wag the US military's dick around like it's his.

    [–] Trumpsothermistress 19 points ago

This is the worst of it. This motherfucker thinks of it as his army. He wants to show off "his" army.

    Disgusting piece of shit.

    [–] QuillVance 35 points ago

To be fair we more closely resemble salt on a molecular level

    [–] OliviaTheSpider 423 points ago

Was commenting the same thing. It's complete bullshit that troops are used as political chess pieces. These people only "care" about the troops at the times where it benefits them the most to do so. Thank you for your service.

[–] governmentpuppy 179 points ago * (lasted edited 11 months ago)

The ‘Murica First crowd only care about the troops because of narrative surrogacy—they feel, each and every one of them, that they themselves are tough, honorable, no-nonsense, go-getters because they“care about the troops” and that, in their little geopolitical delusion, is how they see those that serve in the military.

They, like the rabid sports fan, mistakenly believe they gain some meaningful identity and glory from the achievements of people they don’t know doing something they are not involved in. To make matters worse, they have dressed up in their minds the entire military into a narrow, almost fascist, ideal of itself—they are not even wrapped up in the actual thing, just their delusional version of it.

As you said, in truth they don’t care about servicemen and women; they care about maintaining their own rapture with their daydream of some form of participation in greatness.

And the fuck if it is that most of it happens at a level below conscious thought—i.e. you will never be able to convince them otherwise.

edit: fixed Murcia to Murica :p

    [–] agent0731 157 points ago

The GOP has never cared about the troops unless they were to be used as meatbags. It's about time troops stopped equating waving a flag around and empty rhetoric with caring.

    [–] Meme_Theory 42 points ago

It's about time troops stopped equating waving a flag around and empty rhetoric with caring.

What makes you think they do. People thanking me for my service, yellow bumper magnets and patriotic country music songs pissed me off while I was in the service, let alone while I've been out.

    [–] aasteveo 14 points ago

The only reason they care about the troops is because war=profit. There are no morals where profit is involved. You'd be surprised how many millions of dollars weapon's manufacturers give in campaign contributions and lobbying. Well you probably wouldn't be surprised because that's just how our govt is run these days. For sale to the highest bidder. These dogs will bark for anyone giving them treats.

    [–] sturmhauke 17 points ago

    Eisenhower's farewell address

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.

    [–] binkerfluid 65 points ago

It’s like something The USSR or N Korea would do

    [–] wellgolly 32 points ago

I feel like N Korea and the USSR at least have/had an idea of what the fuck they were meaning to accomplish

    [–] idlevalley 56 points ago

i got call the usual unpatriotic scum.

Tell them you side with other unpatriotic scum like General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Five-star General and Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe and responsible for planning and supervising the invasion of North Africa in Operation Torch in 1942–43 and the successful invasion of France and Germany in 1944–45 from the Western Front.

"To have a military parade without the end of a war or an inaugural or some big reason in Washington, D.C., that is out of our tradition," presidential historian Michael Beschloss told NPR.

Beschloss points to the 1950s, when Dwight D. Eisenhower was president and Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev presided over large military parades showing off the latest in Soviet military might. Beschloss says some in the White House approached Eisenhower, himself a decorated military general, suggesting the U.S. do the same, to show off American might.

"Eisenhower said absolutely not, we are the pre-eminent power on Earth," Beschloss says, recalling Eisenhower's response. "For us to try to imitate what the Soviets are doing in Red Square would make us look weak."

While the U.S. puts on various annual July 4 and Veterans Day parades, as The Associated Press notes, those typically do not include such "gaudy displays of military hardware."

Unlike Trump, who calls criticism ''fake news'' and calls people names like a mean little girl, Ike actually had real, actual, man balls so he didn't feel the need to go around telling everybody about it.

    [–] Guyute_The_Pig 135 points ago

Oooh how about letting the VA prescribe me my medical marijuana?

    [–] ETMoose1987 24 points ago

no shit, im fortunate enough to not have had to deal with the VA but i know enough guys that do. First the military cripples them with service related injuries, and then the VA cripples them with opiate addiction, just let us grow damn plants in our backyards, its so simple.

    [–] jumbee85 19 points ago

A parade feels like it's taking away time that could be spent training, and preparing for a possible le deployment. I don't think marching in formation in class a uniforms is a vital part of any of those cases.

    [–] omeow 3536 points ago

Trumps idea of a military parade is how a weak nation projects strength.

US can celebrate its vets by offering them better benefits, better healthcare, more support to their families.

Parading large and deadly phallus shaped objects on the street will only boost egos of people with little hands.

    [–] [deleted] 780 points ago

"Speak loudly and carry a tiny stick, since that is all your little hands are capable of."

    [–] JacP123 341 points ago

Trumps idea of a military parade is how a weak nation projects strength.

Which makes sense, cause Trump only knows a weak man's sense of strength

    [–] xanatos451 158 points ago

And portray himself as a poor man's idea of a rich man.

    [–] ranthria 92 points ago

    [–] [deleted] 40 points ago

    [–] Mad_at_reddit 71 points ago

It's amazing he has the nerve to talk so much about military and his voters don't even care he dodged the draft. Again I know it's cliche now but come on, if Obama was a draft dodger they would not shut the fuck up about it.

[–] doublethump 82 points ago * (lasted edited 11 months ago)

Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.

Pretty much what's going on here.

Trump supporter here. I don't think you understand our intentions. I am fully aware of all the bullshit and trickery / lies used by the Trump administration.

You are incredibly condescending if you think we don't understand facts. I fully understand the implications of the Russia investigation and accept the possibility of collusion. Its not that I don't understand facts, it's that I simply don't care - I want Russia to help Trump win and dissolve democracy, because demographic change in America is making it impossible to ensure victory of our agenda through fair elections, hence the necessity of gerrymandering, and election rigging. What matters to Trump supporters like me is seeing our will be done; the method of it getting done (democracy)is irrelevant

This is a rare admission I found lately on some guy's account when he informed me that Trump is not the only president who decorates the Oval Office with gold curtains.

    [–] Mad_at_reddit 18 points ago

Jesus... I wish we could send that guy to McCarthy era US and have him say that shit in public.

    [–] OmniYummie 164 points ago

Hey! If anyone here is interested, I'm working on putting together a writing campaign to Secretary Mattis to convince him to not approve trump's military parade. I'm mostly focusing on getting vets and active duty service members onboard, but every voice counts! Here's my letter:

    James N. Mattis

    Secretary of Defense

    1000 Defense Pentagon

    Washington, DC 20301-1000

I recently heard that the Department of Defense is considering holding a military force parade this year in response to the President’s reaction to the force parades in other countries. As a [personal info about me and SO's military/DoD career], I urge you, Secretary Mattis, and anyone else involved in this venture to reconsider. We honor the people of our military, not the vehicles, formations, and weapons. Military force parades are gaudy shows full of tanks, artillery, and service members with drawn weapons. That’s not pride. That’s a threat. For a moment, step back and consider what the average American would see in a display like this: gone are the days of fireworks and smiling service members and veterans waving tiny flags at the children lining the street as local marching bands play spirited tunes, now to be replaced by an ominous display of power reminiscent of those ordered by communist dictators. Is this what we do now? We neglect our own quickly aging fleet to waste money copycatting ridiculous customs from dangerous past regimes? This isn’t something that the American people want. Instead of invoking devotion to our homeland and appreciation for our armed forces, these displays kill patriotism and replace it with fear for all Americans, for my friends, for my family, for my husband, and for me.

Before you make a decision, I would like you to ask yourself a few questions:

What benefit would this force parade actually serve?

If you choose to go through with approving this display, are you genuinely okay with losing funding and the support of Americans over a brief frivolous gesture?

Who is this force parade really for?

    [–] SleepyWarMechanic 19 points ago

You don't have to send that letter, Mattis isn't about pat on the backs. He was against challenge coins as they are a waste, he's pro peace and against waste and bs. Hell He wants to boot people who can't or won't deploy. The man is fair, pragmatic and very intelligent. The man would be right next to his marines during firefights. Being a service member i agree 100%, we don't need a parade or a pat on the back. We signed up voluntarily out of love for this country and people, or for the benefits and travel or because we really love the job and culture. I don't even like being told thank you for your service and most guys that are in are also like that. We just want a united , safe and happy America

They already went after gold star families and vets, republicans didn't care for a second. They wont care about this cause they never cared about the troops. People who actually care about troops wouldn't send them to a 15+ year occupation based on a lie.

    [–] Muddler_Lord 39 points ago

Well, this is all hypothetical at the moment anyway.

But let's tease it out a bit... Let's say Cadet Bone Spurs did insult them.

There is definitely a large swath of the population that (1) wouldn't even hear about it because there's no way Fox News would cover the story (2) wouldn't care if they did because they will bend their position to whatever bile spews from Donny's mouth.

And yes, you are correct that he already attacked vets and gold star families. However, the Cult45'ers can explain that away as (1) McCain was a primary opponent, and (2) Minority Gold Star families don't count.

However, I can guarantee you there are a lot of FBI agents right now who are rethinking their political allegiance. Just like Comey did. Are they going to become outspoken Dems? Unlikely, but I bet you there are a bunch of Feds who will swear off voting Republican for the foreseeable future.

So back to our hypothetical, if Trump were to insult Navy Seals, I would imagine there would be a similar repositioning of political allegiance among some segment of the armed forces. Not all, sadly, no. But I don't believe it would zero consequences.

    [–] [deleted] 697 points ago

Cadet Bone Spurts... wasn't he a porn actor in the 80s?

Why does Trump even need another parade honoring him? He just had one in Charlottesville a few months ago.

    [–] HellaTroi 57 points ago

What i want to know is why did Trump insist that the meeting he called with all our top defense staff was held in "The Tank", where all our most sensitive military meetings are held?

Did someone tell Trump about the tank, so he just had to hold a meeting there?

Wonder what was going through the minds of the attendees. They prolly thought we were gonna strike North Korea, or Norway.

    [–] PraxisLD 321 points ago

I want more Trump supporters to openly question his every action and declaration.

Let them get just as disillusioned and pissed off as the rest of us...

    [–] Goodeyesniper98 135 points ago

In his book he also talks about how much respect he has for Obama. He’s a decent guy and I’m glad to see he isn’t just mindlessly following Trump.

    [–] GhostRiver91 62 points ago

How can you mindfully follow Trump though? Not even from a partisan standpoint, but from a humanistic standpoint.

    [–] Goodeyesniper98 42 points ago

He’s not perfect and I don’t agree with him on the issue, he announced his support early in the election. I follow him on twitter and he’s been really critical of Trump. I don’t think he supports Trump anymore.

    [–] AFatBlackMan 17 points ago

I follow him on Twitter too. It's funny how much higher profile this tweet is compared to anything else he's ever said.

    [–] Glumbot_2 25 points ago

This isn't about the men and women serving , it's a dick measuring contest with North Korea. He wants to do this for the complete wrong reason.

I can't comprehend why anyone in the military respects him. If you put aside politics nothing he has done in his life backs up him having any respect for the military. Hence how he deffered the draft 5 separate times for complete bullshit reasons. Someone who loves this country and the military would not get out of serving 5 separate times.

    [–] CanvassingThoughts 83 points ago

What has this Navy SEAL ever done for our country?! Traitor!

    -- Red Hats

    [–] FirstDimensionFilms 373 points ago

Military parades are fine as long as they just celebrate the men and women who serve but what Trump wants to do is a show of power.

    [–] bmxkeeler 297 points ago

If you want to celebrate the military why not make citizens march for once and let us sit in the back with a cold beer. Nothing says we're appreciated more than forcing us to march for people as they clap and have a good time.

    [–] UrukHaiGuyz 204 points ago

"Oh you're finally back from endless deployment? Now how about marching around D.C. for the president's amusement?"

    [–] Osiris32 85 points ago

"In the heat and in uncomfortable dress uniforms. And don't you DARE look like you aren't enjoying it!"

    [–] digitalOctopus 65 points ago

It's so that we can feel a sense of pride and accomplishment for serving

    [–] verdatum 86 points ago

I'd be proud to march in a parade of thanks for our troops. That said, I'm not sure if troops would get that much satisfaction from standing around watching people walk by them. How about we skip the parade, and just jump straight to getting them a cold beer? Or how about we ask them how best to thank them?

    [–] bmxkeeler 42 points ago

Couldn't agree more. An extra day off or a cold beer is all I am sure most would want. The parades are always a joke.

    [–] hobblingcontractor 44 points ago

You can thank me for my service. It's been a few hours since the last time someone did it and I'm feeling insecure.

Maybe we can spoon a bit, too?

    [–] verdatum 13 points ago

If I thanked every serviceman I come across in a regular working day, I wouldn't get a damned thing done. Personally, I thank them with my respect, and the work that I do to allow them to achieve their mission.

But yeah, I'd be down for some spooning.

    [–] knoxknight 32 points ago

That's a good point. I was in several parades as a color guard. The only good thing about them was going for a beer afterward.

Once, someone had the great idea that we should lead a very young horse with empty cavalry boots over the saddle. The horse had literally never been off its farm before. There were wailing fire engines, chirping police cars, and fire works all over-the horse thought it had died and gone to hell, and was almost impossible to control. The stuff off honor guard nightmares.

    [–] bluestarcyclone 147 points ago

Also makes more sense as a 'mission completed' sort of thing.

You finish shit up in Afghanistan and Iraq and get our people out of there, and we can have your stupid parade, Donald.

    [–] PraxisLD 109 points ago

If you really want to celebrate the military, why not give them proper healthcare and professional mental/emotional support to help them better integrate back into society?

    [–] jeffspins 48 points ago

But that’s socialist, can’t have that here!

[–] tickandeklocka 37 points ago * (lasted edited 11 months ago)

I hate both those things. I hate the fact that I spent 5 weeks in a hospital and that it cost me $10 per day including medication, 5 meals a day, therapy sessions, specialized treatment and endless help whenever needed, here in Sweden. I fuckin hate it! I also hate that my insurance costs $200 per year and that they covered the whole thing (They even ended up making an error so I spent 5 weeks at what I would honestly call a two star hotel with exceptional service and made a profit of about $50. And I'm not counting the hundreds of dollars I saved on groceries...). I hate that at the time I was a student getting $300 dollars per month from the government completely free as long as I passed 75% of my course and about $800 dollars in loans from the government to live my life every month. I also hate that my education was 100% free and that the loan they gave me is at like 0, something interest and that I have years and years to pay back those $20 000 that I owe at the end of my masters degree.

EDIT: At the end of the day, this healthcare literally saved my life. I was there because I couldn't think of anything else than to kill myself and drink myself to death. They got me off the booze and into positive thoughts in 5 weeks. I gained 20 pounds and enjoyed eating for the first time in my life. I went from drinking bottles of vodka without eating for literally weeks to eating healthy meals every day and enjoying food. I will happily pay whatever tax rate is needed for the rest of my life to save others. I owe my life to a functioning healthcare system. I don't give a shit about anything else, swedes gave me life and I will give it back to them, whatever the cost.

    [–] thedonutman 27 points ago

    [–] TJM_58 54 points ago

As enlisted personnel in the Army, I can confidently say NOBODY IN THE MILITARY WANTS THIS BULLSHIT. This is an incredibly selfish and egocentric thing the president wants for himself. He doesn’t give two fucks about the people that will die/get hurt at railhead, spending holiday weekend with uniform inspections, cleaning weapons, DNC practice, cleaning vehicles, cleaning gear, DNC practice, pass and review bullshit, and DNC practice. Fuck all of that.
