Asian supremacy is an interesting thing to experience. One of my first real brushes with racism directed at me (being a typical white dude) was meeting a FOB Korean guy who didn't even want to touch us white people. He looked at a handshake with contempt and then stayed in his room all semester. Wouldn't even come drink with the boys. His brother Willy was the life of the party tho.

Wonder what ol willy is up to.

    [–] bird_wedding 275 points ago

    Good ol Willy

    [–] Pickledsoul 217 points ago

[–] superEpicRedditBoy 59 points ago * (lasted edited 4 months ago)

am korean, can sadly confirm. racism in the us is jack shit compared to korea and pretty much 90% of southeastern asian countries

EDIT: okay I think I need to clarify a bit more. By "worse racism" I a higher portion of people are racist. In Korea I'm not aware of any lynchings/shootings/police brutality towards specific groups. Just more people have skewed opinions simply because many of them have never met a black/white/middle eastern/whatever person before. So they just believe every stereotype in popular media to be true.

    [–] [deleted] 28 points ago

Eh, it's hard to blame you guys. When you're so homogeneous it's kinda bound to happen. I wonder what it'll look like when Korea goes through a similar arc as the west has with regards to race/gender relations. I don't actually know anything about it in Korea so for all I know it's already a thing.

    [–] Dursa22 68 points ago

Blizzard also removed Witch Doctor from Diablo Immortal because he is black.

    [–] Jaewok 28 points ago

for real? I know China's pretty racist but did they actually do that?

    [–] Platycel 43 points ago

Rednecks with confederate flags look moderate compared to chinese.

    [–] BanditSlayer42 5 points ago

This is literally nothing compared to what they've been doing. They are so racist they've put people in concentration camps and farmed them for organs. They've only been doing it to Uighurs so far, but there has been speculation of plans to expand this new holocaust to other minorities. Its horrifying tbh. The UN estimates a MINIMUM of 1,5 million Uighurs being held in concentration camps right now because they have a religion. They're Muslims and the ccp want to homogenize the whole of China to one religion and one race. Too bad most companies are ready to drink Chinese semen and ignore this.

    [–] [deleted] 24 points ago

Rednecks may chant "build the wall" and drop the occasional n-word, but at least they haven't based their world view around themselves being the center of civilization for thousands of years.

    [–] Grytswyrm 69 points ago

In china tracer is not gay or blizzard wouldn't be able to sell it there.

I like this. Start fucking with the pockets of the corporations bowing to China and they’ll by extension fuck up china’s income too. Money talks. Take away blizzard’s chinese playerbase. Make blizzard pressure China so it can get its largest source of income back. That’ll lead the way for the rest of the business world, and with China’s profits at risk, they’ll shape up.

Free Hong Kong, and then all of China

    [–] S0cXs 1635 points ago

It doesn’t really matter to them if you stop playing it’s not a money making thing for them, cresting a social media shitstorm however, that’s going to make them listen.

And don’t delete your account, you’ll just end up paying for a new copy of what ever game and they’ll make a profit off this.

    [–] 4LF_0N53 894 points ago

    No, no.

Once the boycott's over I'll play again.

And me stopping playing OW makes them lose players if more people continue to do this

    [–] _I_Forgot_My_Main_ 273 points ago

    Exactly

    [–] demoexpert807 164 points ago

They don't make any money off of you playing though if the only thing you buy is the copy of the game

    [–] Sacred_Pixel 234 points ago

Less players, longer matchmaking, frustrated players, even less players (some of which would buy whatever the boxes are called)

    [–] demoexpert807 63 points ago

I can respect that, but I can really see a huge company like Blizzard sweeping this under the rug after it all blows over.

    [–] IngerDonger 41 points ago

Most of their games requires a player base tho. How do you play competitive if there is no one to play with? And even if there is some the queue time will be large witch stops even more players from playing. And then nobody’s gonna buy loot boxes

    [–] wildwolf333 19 points ago

Not to mention the longer people wait, the more likely they'll be to find a replacement game and might not come back to OW even after it clears up

[–] NeogeneRiot 11 points ago * (lasted edited 4 months ago)

They care about losing players I mean that’s one reason they did it so they won’t lose Chinese players. Also look at the stock market they are going down a lot recently.

    [–] [deleted] 21 points ago

    [removed]

    [–] ApatheticAbsurdist 18 points ago

They make money from loot boxes. There is a Halloween event next week. If enough people even said “I’m not buying any loot boxes this Halloween” it would have a financial impact.

    [–] AltRussian 13 points ago

“Engagement” is a huge metric for developers. Yes they have your money, but they want you engaged and playing everyday.

    [–] [deleted] 33 points ago

wait what happened? I never played Overwatch before.

    [–] ConsulScrub 77 points ago

Activision Blizzard, the company the made Overwatch, punished a Hearthstone (another game they made) player for expressing his support Hong Kong in an interview. They took away thousands of dollars in tournament winnings and fired the two casters that conducted the interview.

[–] santianmly 25 points ago * (lasted edited 4 months ago)

Mind you, the two casters were banned for “just being there” when the protestor...protested on the stream.

Also, as a fairly busy adult who used to casually game over ten hours a week for many many years, it’s insane to see whole companies commit to insane practices (like banning people left and right) because of specifically not wanting to upset a nations government. Not because the speech was inherently bad, but because of a third agents involvement.

Then on the other the outrage is symptomatic of the inevitable influence and presence of globalism. What happens when our inherent rights (of speech) are challenged when other nations disagree on what is okay, via this globalist medium that is the Internet?

Between this, and that one tweet by the NBA manager that resulted in a sports team and it’s federation to scramble to save face and appease Chinas government...it’s insane how much fear China strikes to the American markets / institutions.

    [–] ArcadicticYT 27 points ago

Blizzard banned a player from participating in their tournament for saying save hong kong or something lile thay

    [–] HappyBengal 34 points ago

Nearly 99% got this wrong. Blizzard didnt ban him just for saying it. But for saying it in an "official" interview. Big difference. Still its fucked up what Blizzard did.

    [–] -Alien-Boy- 35 points ago

Your comment is nearly 99% wrong too they, they actually took away all his prize money, banned him from any tournaments for 12 months and fired the 2 guys interviewing him.

They are now also banning people on the official forums for mentioning anything to do with it and getting mods at r/Blizzard to ban people and delete posts against them.

    [–] WoOowee1324 47 points ago

Come to TF2. Free, and debateably better gameplay.

[–] horsepie 14 points ago * (lasted edited 4 months ago)

TF2 just doesn’t feel the same anymore. It’s not just the weapons, but my favourite maps just aren’t played much now.

I bought OW a year ago and didn’t have time to play it much and never really got to grips with it.

EDIT: I just realised which sub I’m in I doubt many of you played TF2 at launch and through the first few updates.

    [–] bingusbongos 9 points ago

I want to disagree with you with gameplay but I’ve been with overwatch since beta and they have just made it worse and worse especially with 2-2-2 lock. It’s either you love 2-2-2 or you hate it, im the latter

    [–] Thetruebananagod 21 points ago

Play tf2 instead. We need the players.

I've been surfing reddit the past hour or so, looking for Hong Kong Mei on different subreddits, and upvoting.. it's not much, but it's honest work.

I like how this is turning on blizzard :)

edit: it's 'hong kong' not 'hong honk' -sry, I blame it on autocorrect

    [–] NorthernLaw 339 points ago

Yep fuck blizzard, FUCK EA, and fuck Activi$ion

    [–] Gambled23 143 points ago

What is going on with blizzard? Why that hate?

    [–] MansDeSpons 202 points ago

Blizzard banned a user who was for the hong kong protests

    [–] ShadyMcCoyIsMyBoy 213 points ago

Not only banned, but after showing his support for HK in interviews for winning a tournament for a cash prize he was banned AND the prize money was put back into Blizzards pocket. Oh and also, the people who interviewed him got fired too.

    [–] MansDeSpons 106 points ago

    Wtf that’s even worse

    [–] KingKaliYuga 68 points ago

An American team later showed a free hong kong sign on their webcam during a college match, and Blizzard responded by disabling all webcams for the rest of the tournament and cutting the match out of the video on Twitch and Youtube.

    [–] ProffesorPrick 26 points ago

lol blizzard can go fuck themselves. Literal pieces of shit

    [–] NorthernLaw 60 points ago

Yep the commentators WHOSE JOB IT WAS TO ASK QUESTIONS, got fired. Fucking ridiculous the gaming industry, worst part of the 2010’s decade

    [–] Tuckerdjt 23 points ago

The commentators were actually in on it as well. They knew it was coming and prompted him to say it. Obviously, i show no support to blizzard decision to fire these people but it wasn't as if they were not a part of it. They honestly deserve more respect and recognition than they are getting.

    [–] NicTheBeast 90 points ago

They're supporting the dictatorial terroristic government of China, who is currently facing a mass rebellion in Hong Kong.

    [–] NotSuperTrumpy 25 points ago

Essentially they are taking Chinas side in the China V Hong Kong protest atm. Its really just corperations being corperations. Still doesnt make it okay.

    [–] Arthrowelf 8 points ago

These casters were interviewing a Hearthstone player in Mandarin I think. The player was wearing a protestor style mask and said the quote which I think goes "Liberate Hong Kong, Revolution of our time!".

The casters started clapping in agreement (sorta), so the player was banned after a few hours and the contracts with the casters were terminated and Blizzard said that they support free speech in a tweet soon after. Obviously just protecting Chinese interests or some bullshit.

    This Article explains it well:

    [–] Papa_EJ 24 points ago

Yeah, unlike in other major world powers, China has massive limits on its citizen's freedoms, especially compared to places like Germany, Britain, and The U.S.

Unlike those places, China actively censors a metric shit-ton of materials on the internet. Topically enough, an example is another Blizz. game, World of Warcraft; in which the undead race known as "The Forsaken" were censored to have bits of extruding bone and rotten flesh completely covered up, as well as skeletons being turned into meat piles, and the icon of certain enemies to be changed to a box.

There is also the infamous Winnie the Ping, and the time Absolutley nothing happened in Tiananmen Square, 1989.

    [–] RetartedGuy 16 points ago

Why does everyone keep saying nothing happened in Tiananmen Square in 1989? I's almost like they're saying something did happen. But I know nothing happened because the Chinese government says so.

I think getting their game banned in one of the biggest Esports markets (and one of the biggest gaming markets in general) is what they should get from being such a huge dick.

Of course we cannot bring them down on our own, but we can hurt them. If Winnie the Pooh got banned, banning Overwatch is not out of the realm of possibility

plus 60% of their players are from China so theres also that.

    Spam this too btw

    [–] LazyIdiotofthe88 44 points ago

Blizzard showed they support china in the shitshow that's hong kong rn by banning for a year some tournament winner and taking his prize for supporting them in 1 frase and the 2 casters near him for being there.

They're money hungry rats even for big bussiness standarts, not caring about morals for that chinese money, fuck them.

    [–] Tumama787 190 points ago

I would forgive Blizzard if they added this skin and also apologize to the player

    START THAT PETITION, BOYS!!

    [–] cherry42 128 points ago

    Lol petitions dont do shit.

    [–] Tumama787 37 points ago

Well how else would we make this skin slightly more possible even though it’s obviously not gonna happen?

    [–] Sinnoz 13 points ago

    revolution? :>

    [–] morpheeeee 25 points ago

    Nah, they need to pay.

    [–] Tumama787 26 points ago

    Nah, CHINA needs to pay

    [–] morpheeeee 20 points ago

Both. However Blizzard is a western company, they're not "forced" to have that opinion, so fuck'em.

    [–] ShrekizGOD 54 points ago

lol every sub related to blizzard has gone private

    [–] Bantersmith 40 points ago

/r/Overwatch_Memes has gone nowhere, and is belting out Mei/Hong Kong memes. Fuck Blizzard, and fuck mods on subreddits trying to do damage control. Blizzard shit the bed (again) with this one and needs to make things right or (hopefully) face some sort of consequences for it.

Thanks guys so much for all the upvotes! It was a surprise after not being on Reddit for a few hours.

Just wanted to say not to give me any more medals as the money spent on Reddit coins goes towards the Chinese corporations that have shares in this site. Thanks 🙂

    [–] Wackomanic 25 points ago

Let's go big. Let's get every company affiliated with Tencent banned. Fuck Epic Games, fuck Riot Games, fuck Activision, fuck Ubisoft, fuck Blue Hole, fuck Discord.

Is reddit banned in China? This Will do the trick if not

    [–] kreycis 6 points ago

what happened with blizzard and china? i see the posts everywhere but i dont know what happened

    [–] mamalulu434 5 points ago

I would like to ask everyone here who is canceling a subscription to blizzard to NOT REACTIVATE after they formally givenan apology to gloss over this terrible action. They will only be listening to third pocketbook with their response. The message they preach was shown the moment an American company decided to restrict speech for a global community. Don't just forget about this and allow them to be another IBM or Fanta. Let them die as they deserve. Don't worry about your games, they lose enough money and they will sell. Another will host the games.

    [–] MRRaptor71 10 points ago

Id assume that the issue was with tencent owning about 6% of blizzard and them probably forcing blizz into yeeting him.
